Battery gauge - Captivate Themes and Apps

I think it'd be great if somebody could come up with a new battery gauge to replace the current icon with just a percentage being shown. Seems like that'd be simple??

Actually, I think the gauge is not correct. I looked at the status and it indicated the battery are about 40% left while the gauge shown over 50% ~ 60%. Very inaccurate.

I also noticed this issue. The visual display of the battery icon looks like there is more battery left. The percentages are always lower. I also would love to get the percent of battery left instead of the icon.

Sign me up if we can figure this out! there are apps in rhetorically marketplace that add this to the notification bar but a complete replacement would be nice.

My battery gauge is wayy off too. It shows like 75% and I have like 40% remaining.

I use a free app called "battery Idicator." works perfect.

I think the battery icon is only showing 4 or 5 stages of battery life, and it's very underhanded because it shows more than what it actually has.
a full battery is > 75%
slight sliver is 74% - 50%
orange is 49% - 25%
red is < 25%
I would love to have the icon replaced with something more accurate.

I agree, battery indicator is great but I would prefer an icon replacing the actual incon instead of having two battery icon

yeah same, would be better!

yea, i dont know that ive seen that tho, only on custom ROMs. Im sure someone will chime in to correct me if im wrong tho!

Battery Level is pretty handy. Not a lot of features, just puts a percentage in the notification bar. What I like about it is that it's a box with the number, and not a stylized battery, so it looks less redundant with the stock battery meter still displayed.

The battery indicator sucks. It shows 80% charge at 41%, and 50% at 39. The steps it takes are way too large.

I use Battery Status Pro to get a status bar icon with an accurate percentage, and would love to figure out how to get rid of the stock icon.
There is a mod here:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/themes/(mod)remove-battery-icon-from-status-bar/
...but the odds of it working on our Captivate are low. I haven't tried it out of fear of bricking the device, even though it's exactly what I'm looking for.

This is nothing new with samsung. It was the opposite on Eternity 50~60+% showed 2 out of 5 bars.
I use battery widget, shows 5 bars on the home screen with the percentage clearly overlapping the bars for easy read ability and when you tap it, it pops up a window with 4 buttons that are shortcuts to the settings page that will allow you to turn off wifi, gps, and bluetooth and a button to bring you to the display settings.
I no longer have to go into settings -> about phone -> status just to chekc my actual battery percentage.
It will never get fixed by samsung so no sense in complaining, find an alternative you like.

When I Have Fewer Battery Bars, My Power Drops Quickly Why Is That On My SGH-i897 (Captivate) Phone?
The battery icon display consists of seven visible levels. Some levels have different values depending upon on pattern of use.
From a fully charged state, L6 is 100%, L5 is 80%, L4 is 60%, L3 is 40%, L2 is 25%, L1 is 10%, and L0 is 5%.

Guys, I am using a metamorph theme called ClearBar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743358
The battery icon there changes according to colour etc. and seems more fair and accurate, though still a little optimistic.
The problem I think is because the steps are too large: 100, 80, 60, 40, 20 and 0.

I have 'Gauge battery Widget' (1x) on my main home screen. I calibrated against the Captivate's own gauge (Settings > About Phone > Status ... see Battery level) and they match 100% (perhaps the widget just reports that value graphically?). But, the cartoon of the battery status in the banner at the top of the screen overstates battery life until one get unto the orange and red zones (above those zones, who really cares?).

In addition to this you can also use the BlackBar theme that was posted here a little while ago, it uses the same metamorph theme so it changes your icon completely. Ill throw up a link when i get on my desk top but the tread should be towards the top of the apps theme forum.

Quickmenu's battery indicator

just thought of sharing with everyone...if you are tired of seeing the battery indicator showing in decrements of 10, i've found out that quickmenu's battery indicator is able to display actual decrements of 1% e.g. if it is 57%, it will show 57 instead of 60.
I would be interested if I could just get the battery indicator out of QuickMenu and use JUVS HTC Enlarge Start Menu. Am I the only one who feels this way?
i found it to be quite handy in navigating to your programs or systems menu...it can be placed on the top bar or replace your windows start.
well, this is the only program so far that can display the battery correctly and also complement windows start.
Where exactly have you been seen decrements of 10? I have always seen 1% decrements on my kaiser...now my old Hermes, thats a different story.
Battery Indicator by itself?
Is it possible to get the battery indicator by itself instead of the whole entire quickmenu software?

low battery icon threshold %

The "low batt" icon kicks in too quick in my rom. In fact I never get to see 1 bar of power, it goes from 2 bars to "low batt" directly.
I want to change the power threshold for the "low batt" icon to 10%. Is it done in the registry or is hard coded in dlls?
Many thanks!
I just browsed through the registry and found this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Power
The key contains the different states of the battery and the percentage levels. Change the values to alter the behaviour of the battery icon.
Good luck!
good find...
I think it controls the bars displayed in the main battery icon, but I still cannot control when the normal 3-bar icon changes into the red "critical batt" icon, currently set at 40%.
searching the forum I came upon this thread, I'll try and ask over there:

display -- sucking up my battery life

Hello, my phones battery life is I'd say average.
I get up in the morning after its been charging all night, and after its been unplugged for maybe a half hour, with a few texts and a minute of browsing done, the battery has gone down 5%.
Battery usage shows that display is taking up 89% of the usage!
Why is this? Is it normal? If not, how can I fix this?
Display will use most anyway. Get a darker home screen, either use low brightness or auto-brightness. not much else you can do.
Let me guess you're using CyanogenMod?
I've seen reports of my same problem, and those that had it found a solution by wiping the battery statistics, letting it die, then charging it to 100%
But no, my nexus isn't even rooted.
Strange. Before I was rooted my display would always be 1st or 2nd, along with android OS
After I rooted using Cyan, it was always 1st taking up more than 60%
Then I switched ROMS now its always 3rd or even 4th
Sorry dude.. try wiping batty stats and changing your brightness.. are you using live wallpaper? what about screen timeout.

has anyone thought that the battery usage stats has to equal 100% so if the operating system on CM is running lighter (usin the cpu less or in a more efficient way) then the display would be taking more % of battery usage making people think there is something wrong when probably there is nothing wrong. maybe the desire ports (modaco ro king) use more cpu and thats why the display is 3rd or 2nd.

This is perfectly normal. Displays are power hungry relative to the rest of the phones components.
Google maybe shouldn't have included the battery usage page as it just leads to confusion. When you use up 5% of your battery's power and then check the stats and see that the display is listed at 89% it means that of the 5% used, 89% went to powering the display. It does not mean that the screen has used 89% of your total battery at that point.
Leave the phone alone for a while and you'll see that the display percentage will go down while things such as Cell standby will go up.

Nobody thinks of that
-------------------------
I am on more than 9h of use still 50% battery left!
- Autobrightness on
- No taskkiller!!
- Wifi on all the time
...and using it today a lot, mails, web, twitter,....-> made a logcat this morning and eliminated my battery drainers
Agh! I want better battery life! I feel like it's dying much too quickly....
buy a bigger battery
or stop fiddling with it so much, lol
turn the brightness down. turn the sync off. turn off background data. don't use bluetooth or wifi. turn off your location.
don't use live wallpaper, use a darker screen that doesn't move.
i know on my winmo phone if i turned on bluetooth, battery would just get sucked out. i couldn't charge
it as fast as bt used it up. and that was with a fastcharge reg edit.
I believe you just got your phone, right?
It's cause you're playing with it so much.
I dont feel like I am though. I am using it probably just as much as I use any other phone I've had.
Maybe the battery just needs to be broken in.

Nobody ever thinks of that unfortunately. I would think display using the most would mean you're using a pretty efficient device.
Yup. That if you want to keep your battery as long as it can get. Else, if you want to enjoy your phone, buy a spare battery along with the desktop charger and you will survive a day...

I switched to enoms which gave me a little better battery life. Also downloading juice defender made a noticable difference, I use the free version at the default settings. I also switched email to hourly which is adaquate for me. I dont run bluetooth unless I am using it, same with wifi, which is what I do with all my phones. I dont otherwise change my usage, dim the screen etc. Overall I make it through the day with typically about 35% left. Based on what I see here my usage would probably fall into the light to moderate range. To be honest I havent had a smartphone recently that did much better. I pretty much figure I gotta plug in every night in the modern phone world.

As others have mentioned, the display uses the same amount of power no matter what rom you are using. So if display is 3rd or 4th, you have an absolutely crappy rom that is using battery probably 10x as fast (compared to same usage where display is 90% of the battery).
In simple terms, the higher % your battery is using, the more efficient your phone is being.*
*compared to same usage at same brightness running different software.
An addendum to juice defender. I had it on the default setting but changed schedule so that it lit up apn for 3 minutes out of fifteen instead of one, my email wasnt consitently downloading at one minute.
I noticed that you have gone to 5.0.6, how is your batt life now? I stayed away from it just because of the overrwhelming number of bad battery life posts on it and was surprised you went that way.

[Q] About battery status on cm10 new BL

I'm using rugglez New Year's gift (cm10 on new BL, BB30a)
I found my battery status not drop on each % and it will decrease only the screen is on. i can use the setting battery to see the history but it is not in detail and it will be erased after phone is shut down.
Also, using battery widget monitor can't read the actual status too, when i woke up and the phone is shut down, BWM apps history only shows a drop from 82% to 0% in one second.
what can be done to solve this problem?
i just want the battery status shows the actual condition even the screen is off for the monitoring purpose.
i remember that i have seen solution on DJ ICS post, but i don't know can the patch be applied on cm10 new BL

Try the app betterbatterystats (paid), and try to let battery go to 0%, fully charge it, go into CWM and clear battery stats

Battery Percentage

Anyone know how to enable battery percentage?
Mines just shows the battery but it does show the percentage when I'm charging the phone.
I want it to show permanently. Any ideas?
Thanks!

There's a button for that.
Is there a different mod (ADB?) or app that shows battery percentage next to the battery? Perhaps there's a Nexus Trickster mod or something I'm overlooking? The app for non rooted phones is hard to see the numbers after 60% . I'd like to see something that has a 99% next to the battery and is the same size as the clock text.
If you are stocked and rooted check this thread out. Right now it just adds the battery percentage next to the battery, but by reading through the thread you will see there are going to be a lot more options added. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/modpack-mcr-modpack-nexus-6-r1-t2996168
