Hello all,
I was on EPF21B and did not have any problems.
I have now upgraded to FRF91 (using this guide http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...ally-updating-epf21b-epf030-builds-frf91.html )
All is working well... however, I am now getting an issue with signal strength. As soon as I go into a "no signal" area, the phone "latches" like this and says "emergency calls only", even though I move to a high signal area. I have to restart the phone, sometimes a couple of times, before it picks up the signal again.... this only started when I upgraded to FRF91...
anyone have any ideas?
I have been using CM6 RC1 since it has been out and havent had a problem like this. Maybe try a different rom and see how things go. You might also try the new radio that could help you out too.
Thanks for your reply!
Do you have any links to this new radio? (preferably with a guide on how to flash it! lol)

intermittent "no service" after upgrading (tried various roms/radios/spls/sims) help!
Ok, so I was using L26 Diamond V9 rom fine, fancied a change and tried some new roms and no matter what spl/rom/radio/simcard i use my phone does the following:
1) takes ages to get a signal, always gets 4 bars
2) drops the signal and goes back to the ! symbol after a minute or two
3) trying to use the internet make the signal drop quicker, sometimes you can visit a few pages.
I've tried my provider (vodaphone uk's) stock WM 6 rom, their new WM6.1 rom, a bunch of cooked roms and various radio/spl/simcard combinations for each rom but to no avail, the problem still persists.
I've tried hard-resetting, removing the battery for 15 mins, everything i can think of.
Can you suggest something for me to try?
Has someone else had this and if so what's the fix?
Hi, Your problem could be very similar to an issue many of us tytn users have had, If you try to set the phone settings to gsm only under band it will probably work.
though obviously you wont get 3g data or services.
occording to some users this is a hardware fault where the 3g chip fails, personally i think it may be something else as so many people have had this problem only after fiddling with roms etc.

thanks for the links, i didn't find them yesterday after doing lots of searching.
I confirm that when my phone is in GPRS mode it works fine, just 3G is dead.
I've reverted my phone back to a state where i can send it in for warranty repair.
Thanks!
Hello all,
My issue with this phone has been mentioned here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=384f4daca48e10b1&hl=en
My basic problem is that atleast 4-5 times each and every day the 3G connection suddenly drops out. As the link says, I see the "up arrow" blinking, but no action from the "down arrow" next to the 3G symbol on the top right corner of the phone. At this point, all apps complain about no network connection. About 45-60 seconds later the connectivity is restored automatically, and I can happily do anything on the Internet again.
I've had the phone for 1 week and this happens regardless of location or signal strength. So I've had this problem at work, at home, while driving etc. The dropouts also occur even when the number of bars indicating signal strength is 3 or 4.
These constant dropouts are really infuriating and I'm not sure if it's a network problem or device problem. Has anyone else had this? I'll be very grateful with any suggestions.
Thanks.
same here, I dont know if this caused by my ****ty provider.
I'd like to try new radio but it seems it still has problem with bluetooth
I had this problem too, it was very frustrating. However the new radio 5.08 appears to have solved the issue for me (I don't use BT currently so can't report on that aspect)
Ask a work around, try setting your phone to "WCDMA Only". That improved things for me previously.

I have also had this problem and I am on stock FRF91. It really slows me down when I need to quickly perform a task that's data related.

This is exactly what I'm doing.
The internet oon the phone barely works on 2G, so I lock it on 3G only mode.
Have this problem on stock.
Also drops calls when it goes down to 1 bar (in areas where another phone with the same provider will have 2-3+ bars)
This has been discussed in detail here

Thanks for the replies guys. So if a mod completely gets rid of the problem, that means it's a software issue right? What's this radio 5.08 that solves the problem? Can I apply this chagne without rooting?
I'm in Australia, running stock 2.1-update1 (EPF30).
you could try update to Froyo
it has new radio

Oh, so Froyo will fix this issue? That's great.
I don't mind waiting for Vodafone to release Froyo then. Shouldn't be long now.

Hmm I see. I'll wait and see I suppose.
I'm surprised if it's just a software issue, why it hasn't been released to everyone.
3G and APN
I have froyo it does not solved the problem.
I also have an issue with the APN, I can't change the MCC to 425 from the default, it wont save it, any suggestion?

I tried going though this, but unfortunately it's not obvious to me what I should be doing. I'll include my details here:
Firmware: Android 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.26.0024U_4.04.00.03_2
Build number: EPF30
Could someone please help me out here? Is it possible to upgrade just the radio version somehow?
How do the CM mods manage to get a radio version better than Froyo?
Thanks again.
hi guys, ive flashed a couple of different froyo roms and decided to stick to FroyoRedux 1.5
reason for all this reflashing.......when using 3G networks i randomly get no signal for about 2 minutes and then its back again. im not too sure why this is happening and wondering if anyone else encountered the same problem?
there seems to be no problem with 2G networks but being on 2G is lame and makes mobile internet kinda pointless.
BTW problem still persists in FroyoRedux 1.5
phone specs are in the sig (if you wanna know what im using)
cheers!
Had this issue on my kaiser running froyo also, went to an older radio which fixed it, and amazingly enough, the same happened on my G1, and the same step fixed it.
Using radio 2.22.23.02 I had regular 'no signal' issues, going back to 2.22.19.26I solved it for me, I still get signal loss on occasion, but only in known very low signal areas,
hmmm interesting, im gunna give this a try and see what the outcome is.
did u just flash the old radio file over your current one or did you use a specific procedure?
Need help hoping someone can point me the right direction or has had this problem before.
On random occasions my connections to the T-Mobile network will stop. The way that I know it's stopped is I'll look at the 3G or H icons in the drop bar and the up arrow will be blinking as if it's try to connect but nothing will happen. During this time, no calls will come in or out, and data will not work. To get out of this, I either have to reboot or switch from 3G to EDGE (also happens while on EDGE too) or just wait it out, EVENTUALLY, the connections will be restored and the up and down arrows will light up showing traffic is flowing again. I know it's not coverage since more often than not I have full bars or at least 2 bars.
I'm thinking it's not the radio firmware, since I'm running modded ROMs (currently running CM6.1 RC1) and I've upgraded the radio successfully each time. The radio I'm currently running is 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Let me know if anyone has any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or has a clue on what I should do.
thanks
5.08 and 5.12 radio versions came from Korean updates, so would you like to give 4.06 a try to see if it solves the problem? if still doesn't, try 5.12 see if it works.
Radio image is not really tied with Rom, Froyo requires 4.06 or later radios. Since radio software handles all data communication.. so it is still possible that radio software caused the problem (i think )
Ive had this problem since I first got the N1, was happening even while running stock 2.1 so I dont think it has to do with the OS. I had written it off thinking it was an issue with TMO and their network. But at this point doesnt seem like that.
I've ran 4.06 radio in the past and still the problem presented itself so Im pretty confident that rolling back to 4.06 isnt going to fix it. I've just recently upgraded to the 5.12 radio so we'll see if that ends up working.
Other than that any other ideas?
I have been having intermittent signal problems on my phone for several months now and it's extremely frustrating. I've read through quite a few threads trying to find a similar problem, but nothing seems to provide a solution. So here goes my feeble attempt to explain what's going on...
For starters, I am in Canada on the Telus network. The phone works fine when I am traveling between places but doesn't work at all whenever I am at work or at home. Other places seem to knock it out as well. It hasn't worked at work since I started having the connection problems back in February or March. The same goes for at home. Anytime I am in between the two, which is a five minute drive I can switch the airplane mode on and off and it will usually connect to the network. When the Network drops, I still have signal bars, but get the "emergency calls only" instead.
I am running CM 7.0.3, and have updated the radio to 5.08.00.04 as well as 5.12.00.08 both did not to anything(I am now back on .08). I was on CM 6.1 when the problems started, and have been updating through the release candidates up to the latest stable CM still with no luck on figuring out what is causing the problem. I have done full wipes, as well as installed different ROMs trying to find what's causing this.
Could the SIM card be the culprit? Even if it seems to work fine some of the time?
I'm completely out of ideas, and sick of not being able to use my phone, as an actual phone, while I'm at home or at work. Any suggestions or ideas/questions is appreciated to figuring out what is going on, I'll answer the questions as best I can.
Thanks,
Chad
I'm having the exact same problem as you: only "Emergency Calls" at places with thick walls (is that well said?), where I used to have good reception and where others (with same company) have a pretty decent signal. I really don't recall when this started, but also does occur with all radios and kernels I've tested so far.
I'm currently running CM 7.0.3 with radio 5.12.00.08 and kernel redstar 2.6.38.7-CFS.
Me three. I think its something to do with cyan 7 because its been since I went onto it that signals not been what it used to. Perma emergency only in my halls.
