Cancel Call Forwarding - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had call forwarding setup on my G1. I canceled my Tmobile service plan and only use the phone over wifi, but I can't cancel call forwarding now and get rid of the damn icon in the status bar.
When I go into settings and hit call forwarding, it says no SIM detected (because it's not valid anymore), so I can't proceed to shut off call forwarding. Any idea how to get around this?

Try a wipe and reflash of your rom?

Wipe and reflashing won't help at all, trust me, I screwed up and tried that "youmail" voice mail.... forwarded to that for almost a month through constant wipes and setting voice mail to regular voice mail...
There's a code you can type into the dialer, though, that will reset everything like that to defaults. Not sure what it is, though, or what to Google to find it.

Yeah wipe did not work. I'll try to do some searching the code. I assume it's not the same as the check-in code.

hmmmm....no voicemail....

I got everything working the way I want on my new Tilt. I already created a thread about email not working and I have already been helped on that one (thanks again).
Since then, I decided to use a new rom (Schaps WM6Pro Kaiser 4.21 WWE Full). I am really liking it.
First thing I noticed is that AT&T's Media NET connection was no more, it showed up as CingularGPRS. Although all the settings were right and I think I have everything setup right (data works great, SMS/MMS, incoming/outgoing email, incoming/outgoing phone calls).
But the voicemail isn't working. Phone rings about 12 times, and instead of going to vmail, the caller gets a "The cellular customer you are trying to reach is unavailable, please try your call again" message.
If I press ignore on the phone, the caller gets a busy tone.
I tried searching (really, I did) and didn't find anything.
Any ideas on how to set up voicemail?
Thanks in advance for any help.
My VM got messed up after AT&T renewed my contract and updated my account. Call customer support, I called them last night.
Voicemail is a carrier issue unless you have the wrong number set to dial your voicemail??

I would have no idea what number its supposed to dial.
But thanks for the help, I will give AT&T support a call and have them fix it.
BTW, is this something I did by messing with the phone, or was it probably not set up from the get go? i picked up the phone a few days ago and never received a voicemail and only found out today because a friend called and got that weird message so he texted me instead. Just dont want them accusing me of any
I have the same problem when ignore (red button) a incomming call.
It works good when I don't pick up, then it goes to voicemail after 30 seconds, but when I push the red button it give a busy tone...
Does someone know a sollution for this?
I have the right number in the voicemailbox settings...

Phone settings problem

I guys;
Rogers Network Canada
Recently my cell phone started to act weird. First dialling is taking about 30 to 45 seconds before connecting with the other line now all my calls are been redirected to my voice mail. No ring no vibe straight to the mailbox!
I was trying to see if it’s something I did by accident in the phone by going to phone settings , services
Call barring (can’t get access to it)
message- cannot read settings from network. Try viewing settings letter or disconnect data connection and try again.
before I was able to access it not sure if it may be a hardware problem now
Caller ID (can’t get access) same message
Call forwarding (can’t get access) same message
I can only access Call waiting and Voice mail and Tex Messages.
I soft reset the phone no luck then hard reset no luck either flashed new room and nothing!! I don’t know what else to do. Call Customer support and he asked me to try my sim card in another phone and it worked just fine. I switched my wife’s sim card in my phone and same problem her calls go straight to the mail box!
Any help will be very appreciate
any tool or software to fix the problem?

[Q] Help me get rid of the most annoying and persistent Voicemail notification ever.

A little history.
I just did a factory reset (stock rom) and when I rebooted I got a voice-mail message.
I had to manually input the voicemail number but I did it wrong, I put in 1123 ... (which is the WRONG number).
I dialed the voice-mail and noticed my mistake, so via settings I entered the correct voice-mail number (1233).
Although I listened to the voice-mail and deleted it, the message has been popping up in my notification area since then.
What I tried to do to get rid of it :
factory reset.
swap simcards with another phone. No vm message appears on the other phones. I haven't had the opportunity to use my simcard with another Android phone though.
install custom roms
revert to stock rom
disable Voicemail by my carrier
install HushSMS, trying the send a MWIVD (Voice Message Waiting Indicator DeActivation) but this option wasn't enabled
I you guys have any suggestions they are more then welcome.
Rob
P.S
Got a new phone, still the same voicemail message ...

[Q] Google Voice after update

I'm starting a new thread for this as it looks like the original update thread is not the best place to ask. As with other Turbo owners, the recent update broke my phone's ability to use Google Voice for my voicemail. Anyone know of a fix for this? Thanks in advance.
Yep, this happened to me as well. My only solution was to uninstall it, then reinstall, and go through the process of setting it up again. I also deleted it off of the Google Voice web interface as well. When you re-add it they ask you to confirm it, then you go through a few steps which involves dialing a string of numbers to set it all up again. I had no voicemail for a couple days before I realized it was broken. Can confirm it is working again after starting from scratch on the setup.
Just noticed the issue when I read about it here. I uninstalled Google Voice from my device and then reinstalled it and reconfigured. Seems to work now...
Thank you both! Works fine now.
I just had to reforward it with *71.
Not a problem.
I've done the forwarding and set up thru google voice, then opt in for Hangouts to manage it
Enabling Advanced Calling gets rid of any call forwarding you set up. That's why your voicemail stopped working. All you should have to do is set up your call forwarding again and it should work.
As a side note, disabling Advanced Calling also resets call forwarding. VoLTE doesn't work great for me, as I don't have a reliable LTE signal at home. So, I disabled it and discovered my old calling forwarding settings didn't come back.
I have GV "working" again....however, when a number is forwarded to GV (because I choose not to answer), it rings FOREVER before GV picks up. It used to be an immediate pickup prior to the update.
This is still an issue for me, I keep reforwarding my calls and they don't stay forwarded. It seems like it's just a couple hours before it resets.

Are you turning off Advanced Calling? That will reset it.

No.
FWIW I just signed up to Verizon and got a Droid turbo for myself and a note 4 for my fiancé. I couldn't get Google voice to configure at all, on the Note it works flawlessly. So now I have a note. The techs there were obviously baffled. I'd still have the turbo if it wasn't for lack of GV.
Clear data/cache and reinstall/reconfigure. Haven't had any problems since I did that after the update. Didn't have any problems before the update either.
No one likes to use the hangouts for Google voice? Download the hangouts dialer and you're all set. Oh, go to settings and select ring this device for calls.
How I was doing it was I set GV to to make and answer all calls. It'll attempt to ring then give up. I'm going back to Verizon tonight. I like the Note 4 but it is pretty big. The only thing other than the turbo that I like is the Xperia z3v. I don't mind the incrementally weaker hardware paired with a 1080p screen. Waterproof is also a big plus.

Problems setting up Google Voice

This is the first time I am having an issue setting up Google Voice as my default voicemail. The last few phones I've used, an unlocked S8+ and most recently an AT&T locked Note 8 I have been offered the option to use GV as my voicemail when launching the GV app the first time, during the initial set-up I get a prompt. Now I have an unlocked Note 8 (US version purchased from Samsung) and I did not get the prompt. So I went to the GV setting on my pc and tried "activating" the voicemail by running the code for AT&T which is **004*1215839XXXX#, when I hit send I get the following error code (see attached). GV was deactivated on my previous Note 8, there is no additional setting under VOICEMAIL/SERVICE PROVIDER and I cannot change the call forwarding information, I get a error message "Failed to read data, unexpected response from network." I CAN change the actual number under VOICEMAIL SETTINGS but that doesn't seem to change anything. The number that was in there was the same as the Call Forward/Busy and unreachable which again I cannot change.
Any insight would be great, I did speak at length with AT&T which was fruitless, I would prefer not to punish myself with a call to Samsung.
Thanks in advance,
Quick update- I spoke with Samsung tech support and they had me try some of the same procedures I had already tried, rebooting phone, adding a comma or plus sign at the end of the string, etc. I also tried an alternative visual voicemail, You Mail and this also failed to run the MMI code. Samsung gave me a case number and want me to take the phone to a Best Buy to speak with one of their Samsung Experts, possibly for an exchange?? Maybe there is a hardware issue with the phone, seems unlikely but since no one else here seems to be having a problem it doesn't appear to be software.
I have the same issue. Please advise if you are able to resolve it.
I have Google Voice working on my Note 8 on T-Mobile, including all the conditional forwarding. BUT I had it all setup before I swapped the SIM card from my OnePlus 5 to the Note 8.
Maybe you could try to setup the conditional forwarding by putting the SIM card in another device?

I had another long conversation with Samsung support and I'll use support loosely, the nearest Best Buy with a Samsung expert was 2 hours away, and the woman was surprised when I laughed. While I've only had the phone for a week or so they will not exchange it but I can buy a new one and then send back mine or I can send in for repair...what a f'ing joke! I am curious if ANYONE with an unlocked US version can set up GV as the voicemail or an alternative like You mail. I can set up the AT&T visual voicemail and that's it. I'm beginning to think it's in the software of the US unlocked version.

Hi. I just switched to at&t. Despite the offer of GV to operate on my Note 8, it has never functioned. I've tried everything. I've used GV since it was first offered, and if I'd known the combo was a dud, I'd have kept t-mobile.
If you've figured it out, let me know. Doesn't seem to be a locked/unlocked issue as you thought.

I just bought a Note 8 on Monday, my google voice mail worked for 1 day I have messages in my google voice one day after I turned it on. Now it isn't working and I can't get it to. How can that be?
I have used GV for my VM since it came out as well.
The Note8 is the first phone I have had to configure manually for some reason. I have the Exynos from the UK and using on AT&T in the US.
Below are the steps I took and everything is working as expected. I only use the VM part of GV as I do not have a need to dial via GV so I do not know how to fix that part if it is not working on your phone.
1. Go to phone app and select 3 dots in top right.
2. Select settings.
3. Select More Settings.
4. Select Call forwarding.
5. Select Voice call.
6. Populate your GV number in place of the carrier's number or whatever number is there in the 3 fields. Should be in format like +15631234321. Might be good idea to note what number is there in case you have to go back.
Always forward should be turned off.
7. Go back to settings again and select Voicemail settings.
8. Populate your GV number in the Voicemail number field. Should be in format like 5631234321. This is probably not needed unless you dial your own VM to get messages, I think.

Sprint settings don't have that...I think ours mess up when we do a profile update...and we have to dial our forwarding setup again...ie.,*73googlevoicenumber or carrier version anyway...tedious yes...but only takes a second to do...I put in a bug request as welll...you all should do the same...take note of how often it happens and what triggers...like the profile update as I could be mistaken...wish we had a fix like above...

Hoping this helps... I realized the Google Voice voicemail functionality stopped working on my unlocked Pixel (on AT&T) a few months ago. After reinstalling the Voice app, I also no longer saw the option to use its voicemail as default. I also received errors when dialing the "activate" codes mentioned on the GV site.
I hopped on a chat with AT&T and said there seemed to be a known issue with GV vm no longer working with AT&T. We went through the following:
- verified correct IMEI on account (I switch phones often so the IMEI did need to be updated)
- restarted phone
- again tried the "activate" codes and voila--success
I made a test call and GV voicemail picked up instead of the carrier, I got a vm notification, and could see the vm in the GV app. When I asked the agent what they did, they said they enabled voicemail (I wonder if they meant call forwarding?) and that was all. I went into the phone app, and yes, under call forwarding, my GV # was now listed. :good:
I was able to fix a similar issue on my newly-activated Samsung Galaxy A51 on Verizon. Nothing seemed to be getting the google vm to work.
I found another thread that suggested going into Google Voicemail (Legacy Google Voicemail). That section provided a tab that was PHONES. On that screen was a google vm number and my cell phone number. I had to press the ACTIVATE voicemail button next to my cell phone number. That provided a unique code to type into the phone (*71 plus 10-digit number, which interestingly was NOT the google vm number listed above).
I thought the code may be wrong because it was not the number assigned to me, so I edited the code to by google vm number. Didn't work. Entered code again with 10-digit number as initially provided.
Next I went into Verizon's details for my phone and then into a CALL FORWARDING section. There was an option to forward ALL CALLS or BUSY and UNANSWERED. I selected the latter and put in the 10-digit phone number (again, not the number that was showing as my vm number, but the one generated in the activation) in the *code mentioned above.
All back to working order!
