So I recently picked up an n1 and sold my 3gs, and when I synched up some of my contacts are missing from my contacts list. However if those missing from my contact list text me, their name, number and any other info I had saved before shows up. What is this weirdness all about?

hey. was just wondering if there's anyway to sync selected groups of contacts instead of every damned one on my list.
reason is that i don't want hundreds of e-mails clogging up my contacts list.
sure, i can show only contacts with numbers. but there are some contacts which i only have their e-mails.
thanks!
i'm looking for something similar myself
i got several email accounts (more than 15) that i sync with and you can imagine the huge mess of contacts i have in my phone when i pull up the list to search for an email or phone number
i'm trying to find a way or something to organize all that
also to sync it all across all the accounts
or something along the line
just to clean them up and make it easy to the eyes
i have no problem finding the number or email of the person i need to contact
it just eye soring to see over a 1000+ contacts when you bring up the list to pick from the list.
good lord Android came with an awesome search build in, else it would have been a major pain in the arsenal as it was with Windows Mobile and PalmOS and every other smartphone i've ever had before, even Blackberry sucked at contacts handling
ah well. looks like for now i have to show only contacts with phone numbers. and add some random numbers for the important contacts that i only somehow have their e-mail addresses. bummer.
Hi,
I'm having this weird thing: I just upgraded my SGS to froyo 2.2 , but i forgot to backup my contacts list. So, when i looked on my contacts list and it was empty and i had no one to blame but me...
However, after a while i noticed that most of my contact list is somewhere in my phonebook - i can see someone's details by typing his phone number. I can view his name and even his gmail account by clicking on the "add to contacts" option (that appears after you type numbers) but i can't see him in the contacts folder.
Maybe it basic and i'm missing something - i don't know, but it's really irritating...
I've tried everything i can think of: Some of that was to sync my gmail account (and facebook). I imprted every phone number from SD and SIM: But i still can't see my contacts numbers via "contacts" (only via "phone" by typing the phone numbers)
Anyone has an idea what is wrong? Or how to add the data that is out there in "phone" to "contacts"?
Thanks
Hey all,
I updated my phone to 2.3.3 via Samsung Kies and did a factory reset.
So, I synced my contacts from Facebook via adding the SNS account, everything worked fine but I needed to add phone numbers to some of the contacts. Considering you can't edit Facebook contacts, I ended up creating a new contact to phone with the number and the name exactly the same and then using the 'Join Contact' to merge them.
The problem #1:
When I click new message, I can click the 'contacts' button and everyone with numbers are listed. I go to an untouched Facebook contact (With a number assigned to it automatically from Facebook) and click add but it still has an empty field saying 'to'. If I add one of my merged contacts, the number is displayed and it works fine.
#2
When a Facebook contact text messages me, only their number shows up, like its an unknown number which mean I have no idea who it is even though I have them as a contact. I go to that persons contact profile and the number that is assigned to them is identical, so why doesn't it show the contacts name?
If I go to the contact and swipe my finger to the left so it 'messages' them, in the 'To' field is their number only, no contact name.
Last but not least, no contact pictures show up in my Messages, even though they have Facebook pictures assigned to the contact
Can anyone help at all or at least point me in the right direction to solving this myth?
Thanks a lot everyone for helping me.
Hi folks. I'm struggling with my droid 3 and it's contacts upload to my car (VM bluetooth system). The contacts that are uploaded don't match those that exists in my contacts - some are missing, and there are some extras in the list. The contacts view on my phone shows only those contacts that I've defined in my google account.
Is there a contact list somewhere on the phone that's different than the one that is sync'd with google? I've tried to "un-verizon" the phone as much as I could, but I wonder if there's another database that the bluetooth passes to the car - perhaps managed by the blur update agent?
The simple question would be: what's the best way to sync all my GMail and phone contacts and have them be accessable through both platforms? How do you organize your contacts?
The more detailed explanation is as follows:
I use GMail a lot and have many contacts saved on my gmail.
I also have roughly 400 contacts (phone numbers only) saved on my HTC One.
What's the best way for me to sync the two? Some of the GMail contacts are also contacts on my phone.
I tried playing around with the sync options but ended up transfering ALL past e-mailed contacts to my phone. For example, I've e-mailed college professors 5 years ago one time about class and somehow their e-mails were synced to my phone as new contacts. It was a mess to clean that all up. And how would I prevent future e-mailed contacts from being saved to my phone?
At the moment the phonebook on my HTC One is set to only display contacts from my phone itself (so I don't see the contacts from GMail).
Move all your contacts to Google: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=Cm#contacts
That way it will backup your contacts as well as sync them to any device with your Google account.
Personally I have my phonebook set to only show Google so I only see these contacts.
additionally, do all your contacts cleanup in your pc browser on your Gmail account
