T5388i Diamond 2 Clone QuickGPS missing - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Obviously I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.
I just got a T5388i Diamond 2 clone. I got it primarily because it offered Dual SIMS which I find useful.
However I'd also like to use the GPs and while it works it takes forever to get a "fix."
This unit does not have QuickGPS installed. Is there a standalone QuickGPS I can download that will work on this version?
I searched the forums and found several the most recent one I tried being QuickGPS_1_1_1917021_01.cab but when I try to run them absolutely nothing happens.

You would probably have better luck getting answered in the Clone thread.

Mea culpa, I must have missed the clone thread.

XDAIIi newbee !

Hello all, 1st post here. I will be aquirring a XDAIIi in a week or two as a relative is replacing his firms pda`s and im getting one of the old units.
I know they were on O2 and I have a T-mobile sim so Id like to unlock it.
I have found the unlock info on this forum and will give that a go.
My question is, what should I check for to make sure it will be running as best it can be and how can I find out what s/ware should be loaded onto it and is there a way of getting a master copy of the original build or will this all be on the software disks that came with it ?
also is there any particular sat nav s/ware that works better than most on the XDAIIi?
I understand the xdaIIi is called something else in places, what is that name ?
sorry there such open questions nut couldnt think how to phrase them in order to do a search.
many thanks in advance, Lee.
Moving to alpine.

I have sucessfully unlocked three of my firm's old Alpine's, aka XDA IIi, using the file in this post, All in one SIM unlock tool, personally i found the earlier version more successful, but you may be OK with the newer version. The biggest thing i would say is to have patience, when you run it, it will seem to finish and nothing has happened. Wait until you receive a message saying it has been unlocked, and then soft reset.
Only other advice i can give is to do a hard reset to get it back to factory settings and then when you get a popup saying "Applying customisations in 3 seconds", or something similar, soft reset. This will prevent the O2 stuff being installed, leaving you with more RAM to play with.
Thanks Ive sucsefully unlocked it for t-mobile, fantastic. just need to find out what else I can do to improve this pda.
Don't try to improve it
as is it is one of the best ever made OK yes it restricted because of only running 2003SE but it runs it dam fast. I have a friend that has a Orbit (the latest one by O2 thats the equivilent of the XDA IIi and mine is as fast as his and he ditched the crappy sat nav software that came with it to go back to TT6, ref sat nav software it runs TT 6 fine I have it on mine and have no problems whatso ever.

Anyone got iFonz working on S730?

Hi all S730 users!
For some time I've tried to get iFonz working on my S730 but with no luck. It won't even start before it'll crash with an exception. I've tried multiple versions but with the same result.
It seems from the iFonz thread that most people are using it quite happily, but I'm not sure how many of them that run it on a S730.
Have you tried it? If so, any tricks to get it to run?
I've tried to upgrade .NET3 (which is requirement) but I already have the latest version it states.
/Peter
iFonz is for Pocket PCs (devices with touchscreen) only, isn't it?
Well, I just thought that if the requirements are met, i.e. WM6 and .NET3, then I could run the app and navigate with the keyboard, but perhaps you are right. Too bad
/Peter
If Your talking Samsung i730, installed on mine and works perfectly Net.3 went in easily as well. I was surprised..
Hi dogpuke1,
As the thread indicates I have an HTC S730 so I guess it would be quite different from your Samsung i730.
Happy to hear you got it working through
/Peter

Diamond GPS applications?

I've had a Diamond for about 2 days now and i'm trying to figure out how to get a decent GPS application for it. I know the phone has GPS, but i'm guessing it's possible to install an actual GPS program in it, instead of just looking at your little blip move on the "google maps" app... I've also heard from several other forums that there's an "update package" that XDA developers have made for the diamon, that removes the laggy interface among other things. So if anyone has a direct link to it, could you please post it?
Thanks for the help, and sorry for my.... lack of knowledge to put it delicately, but my last phone was a Nokia 5140i
TomTom Navigator 7, Route 66, CoPilot, iGo8..... take your pick!
I use TomTom Navigator 7, works great! just like a standalone TomTom unit!
I have heard people talk about TT7 but where can you get it from. I understand the only place so far is when it comes bundled with the Touch Diamond on O2 in Germany. Does anybody else know where else I can get it from?
TT6 does work on the Touch Diamond. I just put the internal storage into "storage card" mode rather than "activesync" and moved all the files from the TT SD card to it. When I unplugged the sync cable TT sprung into life and installed, after I had fed it the correct code.
My TT6 is pretty old (6.01) and I can't get TT Home to update it to the newer versions. I notice that TT have on their website an update for HTC units dated January 2007. Would that work with my Touch Diamond and would it be any better?
Sorry in advance if my first post has broken any rules.
Try searching the forum, before starting a new topic/thread:

I have only been here a couple of hours and am beginning to think that this must be one of the unfreindliest forums I have ever come across. Where is the usual hand holding and help for newbies?
The topic that Zyborg linked to was mainly about using the internal GPS system and did not answer either the original poster's question nor mine. Unless there are some really deep meanings in it that a stupid newbie like me can't pick up.
Installing TomTom, iGO
Ok, i need some serious help when it comes to installing TomTom, iGo or any other of these GPS apps. All the readme: s say you're suppose to copy the folders to your SD card, but obviously the Diamond uses internal memory, so this can't be done. I've tried plugging in the Diamond to my computer, choosing "storage card" instead of ActiveSync, and copying the iGo folder into the program files directory of the internalmemory. But nothing happens. Even if I open the iGo .exe from the Diamond itself later on. So again, can someone please tell me how to install one of these things?

For how long did you search: 3 minutes???
Search and search and read.
And welcome.
Suggest you look at the link specifically posted by zyborg before you commenting! It has nothing to do with the posted questions!
I did not say or suggest I had searched before posting, but boy do some of you get touchy with new people who don't know "the rules". Suggest you read the last sentence of my original post.
Still - nice welcome smily at the end
to Keyz86 for TT7
Hi,
could you tell me where I can get it please ?
thanks first

Quick GPS for Touch Diamond - Removed from Telus's CDMA version of the device

Hi all. I have the Telus CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond. Because telus wants to sell everyone their telus navigator, they've had it and google maps removed on their custom version of the ROM!
So I have a request for the team here: does anyone have a cab version of quickgps that will work for the diamond? I have seen many other posts on this site that have cab files/rars of the necissary files for other phones, but they don't work for the telus diamond, I get the following error when i try to run the program:
"the file 'quickgps' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file"
I got the files i tried to use from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...9&d=1209308371
This is still an unsolved problem based on these posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2446429
the above files have worked for some: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=27312&highlight=quickgps+with+patch
but they dont work the the telus diamond. Is anyone willing to offer help/suggestions/extracted files for quick gps including necissary drivers?
Your help is greatly appreciated,
Iddoc
I can't guarantee that it'll work but it's worth a shot; try the cab in my signature.
Solved it by looking here...
Hi. Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't get a chance to try your cab file however. I found the answer to the problem, at least for telus branded HTC touch devices on this page:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35592
I havn't tried any of the custom cooked roms, I just went down to the sticky post, under GPS and installed the cab file- it changes some registry settings that now allow the GPS to get a fix in less then 5 seconds.
Hope this is helpful to someone else.

I had the same problem and couldnt find anything on the subject until now..
QuickGPS still doesnt work for the Telus diamond but that doesnt matter anymore, those registry tweaks are 1000x better than QuickGPS and now aGPS actually works! No need to download updates or any of that crap to get a quick TTFF
I went on my balcony which would normally take 3 minutes to fix and not only did it fix in under 10 seconds.. but I instantly got full signal strength.
Thank you for posting this resource for the Telus diamond. It is very very helpful and I hope many other Telus diamond owners are able to find it as well.
..Now excuse me while I uninstall QuickGPS.
Cheers man, great info!
EDIT: Holy ****! Now I even get a fix indoors! 4/5 bars with TT7!!
... Not that is really means alot, but its a very nice bonus.

As a fellow Telus HTC DIamond user... big thanks for posting this. GPS signal used to take forever (over 5 mins). now i get pick up in a few seconds indoors!
Did you simply run the cab, or you also followed this 13-steps process described there (looks dangerous ) ?
Also interesting to know which registry keys this cab changes/adds/removes

aGPS nav software

Hi guys, I'm new to smartphones and i just got my xperia x1 black a week ago. I dun haf much in mind to tweak this unit yet, but i am definitely looking for a free aGPS software. And i have been reading this forum and some other forums for the past 1 wk but i still dont quite understand how to install it.
the things ive gone past is garmin mobile XT, which require purchase. The next is garmin que, but it says ill need to install some gpsproxy, which i have no idea where to get it yet. and finally mapking.. which i am still struggling. Is there a specific place i could read more. or are there any .cab files that i can install then i could just use an offline agps service. googlemap requires me to pay and each time the charges arent cheap in my place.
finally kudos to fingerkeyboard developers... that proves to be alot more useful than the build-in virtual keyboard....
