Any recommendations on a good movie player app on my rooted Aria?
Rock player. there are 3 versions, i have V6+VFP installed (guess and check till one worked), and it's great. plays more formats than the stock media player, including avi.

I can second that, RockPlayer seems to be working quite well, though I don't remember which of the 3 versions I installed.
How big of a video file can the Aria handle. I recorded some HBO episodes of Entourage and other shows that I would like to play on it as well as some digital copies of movies. Can the Aria/Rockplayer handle that as well?
It sure can!

Double Twist seems to work well as well. It converts the videos when you "import" them to your device.
i put a down converted star trek blu ray using handbrake in mp4 format on my sd card at about 800 megs and played perfect VERY nice quality
How come.MSN. videos doesn't work?? Any idea how to make.it.work??
I personally use Act 1 Video Player and it works out quite nicely, also the 3d gallery apps plays a lot of the movies files I have. So that might be an option if you want them all in that organization layout.
I just use the stock sense movie player. It plays awesome, seek and pause work great.
And it does a fixed ratio fit based on height or width.
Its just missing some fast forward. Multispeed ff would be a nice addition.

I just ran across ROCKPLAYER... for far it looks like an excellent movie player for the Samsung Epic 4g.... free version has some restrictions (but you can live with them).... paid version $9.99 removes the restrictions... am watching an avi movie now... sounds like it supports multiple formats... avi, mkv, etc.... just posting this for anyone who may be looking for a good movie player for their phone.
The stock player plays all those formats fine. Do you think there is a need for a player app?
Word,no need for another player,i tried a few and to me stock is the best.Maybe for wmv,rmb files and such rockplayer is usefull.Does stock play wmv?I havent tried it.Rockplyer is nice for phones that don't have native support.
Epic 4G natively supports a wide selection of codecs. Rockplayer uses its own for playback and doesn't run that well in a lot of situations. The stock player works perfectly for anything except MKVs, where it doesn't support subtitles. However, mVideoPlayer takes advantage of built-in codecs and supports subtitles flawlessly.
Stock player doesn't play flash video rock player I recommend this app its my favorite
i personally like act 1 the best.. ive tried mplayer and rockplayer.. they are all good.. i just stuck with act1

mVideoPlayer only plays movies that your phone supports natively. So if the Epic can play m4vs, mVideoPlayer can.
I've installed RockPlayer on the NC and it seems to run standard def video (avi) that I've got in the 20-25 fps range while hd (720p) video is pretty much a slide show. What are the NC's capabilities video wise?
I ran quadrant and can see that the 3D performance isn't good compared to my Samsung Captivate but does that apply to video as well? I've played the same videos on my Captivate using RockPlayer and the stock video player and the stock player works much better than RockPlayer on the phone with much smoother playback. I've tried to copy the video player to the NC but get install errors every time so I'm guessing that it's incompatible.
Are there better video players that people recommend?
I am using mixzing to watch my movies. Works great!
Anyone else getting out of sync audio on... Everything? I've tried lots of sw player and not a one was in sync (avi, mp4, sd, hd). From what I've read, 2.2 should fix this, but bummer if it doesn't. I've got an ipad, and want to want the nook instead since the ipad isn't the laptop replace I thout it would be.
EDIT: Looks like MP4's are in Sync, so I assume it's the FFMPEG software decode that these players are using, as the MP4 should be done in hardware. Hopefully this thing'll get 2.2 before Jan. 3rd when my B&N return is up!

I'm having the same problem and hoping someone figures out why. I can't imagine it's a hardware problem...
What exactly is the point on watching a HD file in a non HD device? With the Nook's screen you can get away with a 480P video and it'll look fantastic. Lower resolutions will look pretty decent too. Pixels are all nice and good but there's a time and a place for everything... well, in this case only a place and that's your living room big screen TV
Using the stock player on the Nook I am having no issues with audio and video staying in sync.
Mixzing is great, but won't play avi files. I don't want to have to convert all my files just to play on one device...

Per your post I checked this out and you are right...it does work great with more options while playing. I think the only way to "back" out of a movie is to use the "n" button though. ?
Hi guys, I have searched about the video playback capability of nook color.
I found information that has been posted since december but i am not sure if there are any changes since then. Can nook color play avi and m4v now? without the conversion?
And is adobe flash available for it right now as its already on 2.2?
I seems like I can't get information about it and all i got was about the flashing of nook color. and videos of nook color.
please enlighten me. i am currently so tempted to buy nook color.
Currently video playback is very limited, and hardly any formats are supported. As for flash, it is supported somewhat on the Froyo 2.2 builds for the Nook Color, however, it is still recommended that you run those from the sdcard as the EMMC builds are still highly unstable. With the current progression on Stock, Froyo, and even Honeycomb, we can only guess that flash and video support is right around the corner, especially once A3.0 becomes AOSP.
I use radtools or mcebuddy for batch conversion to vanilla mp4. Works great
NC via XDA
rockplayer in the market will play avi's and what not
thanks for the replies guys!
was thinking of buying it already but it seems like there are no stock on bestbuy.com .
stock seems to be available at B&N but bestbuy gives a free cover.
but bestbuy gotta wait for around 2 weeks! !
I use handbrake (free) to transcode movies to mp4 which plays beautifully on the nook
Alsos use mVideoPlayer which also supports import of subtitle files

i tried to get a nook color through a online store.
But: its out of stock everywhere: b&n, bestbuy, wallmart, booksamillion. even if they say that its in stock, it wont be until the 15.2.
you can try at ebay.com or amazon.com...,
Yeah, be careful with the online inventory counts from Bestbuy and Walmart. Sometimes they say they have units on hand and they don't. I've even heard about people calling into Barnes & Noble and the "kids" that work there said they had several and it turns out they were sold out for days.
guys, try this : VitalPlayer. It's free and it's the best one I've ever had in the market.
It can play avi, mkv,wmv,mp4 as such, the best thing is: its software decoding is SOOOOOOO good. If you just play some videos not in HD resolution, this tool can give you almost no lag, no sound delay experience.
Try it and you'll like it just like me.
I have tried Rockplayer, VPlayer, XYZ, and VirtualPlayer. With all of them my AVI files have the audio out of sync. I tried to convert the AVI's to MP4 with DVDFab and the audio was still out of sync. What program will definitely convert from AVI to MP4 while keeping the audio and video in sync?
Handbrake, without a doubt the easiest and best quality IMO.
I too have tried other video players and have seen audio sync issues with them. Using the built in gallery app on my stock rooted nook though video playback is perfect. I have bluray rips of a few select faves for my son on my nook, specifically coded at 854 pixels wide with constant quality set to 20 and they look fantastic on the nook's standard video player but skip and drop frames on vplayer or rock player regardless of what kernel I run (stock 800mhz or overclocked). I haven't tried playback using vplayer or rock in Nookie Froyo yet, maybe I'll try that tonight.
Same here - I have had no luck with any of the other media players.

Did you try your AVI in your PC? A lot of times, the video file itself may be out-of-sync. In that case, no matter how you convert it, it won't work.
The AVI files play fine on my Archos 70 using RockPlayer.

Played around a little more last night and confirmed that for me playback of my mp4 h.264 videos encoded to meet nook specs play flawlessly in the standard player in eclair and the nookie froyo 0.68 image. Playback in vplayer or rockplayer suffers audio sync issues due to dropped frames though I noted that playback of video in vplayer in froyo was much better than in eclair.
I'm really wondering how it is people are getting flawless playback in vplayer. I expected to see it in froyo seeing as I was using a clean SD card boot image (latest distro) .
Its not a huge deal for me since the stock video player plays well but it does mean having to re-encode my fave TV shows from xvid avi to h.264 mp4 before loading them onto the nook.

The Nook Gallery seems to be the only thing that will playback videos without a video/audio sync problem. I use VideoReo to re-encode my videos into a h.264 format for Android phones. They look great on the Nook. VideoRedo is pretty expensive (I use it for converting .tivo videos) but it is a Cadillac. Handbrake is supposed to be a good free alternative.
Is there any way to get the stock Google Gallery app from Eclair onto a V1.1 rooted Nook?
I'm running brianf21's 0.6.7 Nookie 2.2 image off of the SD card. Flash wasn't working in browser so I uninstalled Flash 10.1 in the market, rebooted, and re-installed.
Embedded youtube videos now working in the browser.
From his thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922324) the only thing I could see was reported success with 0.5.9 so hope this is helpful.
Handbreak.
Ok. I know there are several video players at the market. But not sure which is the best on the SGT.
I have VLC player on several of my machines at work and at home. It has become my #1 media player. Also, I have videos in these formats:
Extension: .mp4
- -video codec: H264 - MPEG 4 AVC (avc1) 480x192 @ 24 fps
- -audio codec: MPEG AAC (mp4a) 48khz
Extension: .ogv
- -video codec: Xiph.org Theora (theo) 1280x544 @ 24 fps
- -audio codec: Vorbis Audio (vorb) 48khz
I need a player that supports those video formats as well as others like xvid, .mov & .avi
I really want VLC Player on my tab but I guess it doesnt exist. So whats my alternatives?

I am using vplayer. But no matter which one you use, you will hear a faint humming sound in the headphones. I thought the problem was with vplayer but I noticed it in other players too except the stock player which has some cool features like bookmark and lock screen which others don't have.
Vplayer for streaming via tversity and upnp. Stock player is good but is very picky
Oh and vlc for android is due very soon

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I will try both mplayer and vplayer.
Well I read the VLC discussion forums and it seems that the developers are working hard but are still a long way from a release. By the looks of it perhaps by May or June we could have a stable VLC Player version at Android Market.

Video Player help???
Hey guys,
I have a Spring Galaxy Tab. I have it rooted and everything. I've been trying to find a all in one video player but none of them seems to be working correctly. I have several movies and videos I converted to watch on my EVO or my Zune HD, but now that I have my tab, I would like use them there too. All the videos are in Mp4 format with either a 320x240 res 600x480 (forget what the numbers are but its the level above 320x240).
Vplayer - starts up and immediately shouts down. The the icon changes and is grayed out with a little memory card icon on it. Then I have to uninstall it.
Divx Demo Player (Rock player with extras) - and it wont play anything. But it plays any format of video or movie on my Evo.
Rock Player - I have the new version from the site and it wont play anything
Seems like nothing is working.. Most times it gives a error saying the video formats are not supported. But I have all these video player on my Evo (Which I know is a completely different device) but I'm wondering if my TAB needs video codecs or something?
Any ideas?

I will try Moboplayer. I'm still running the stock rom. Havnet tried to update to Gingerbread yet. Didnt think any of the roms would work since they are not based on the Sprint Tab.
I think I know what's wrong
Still getting the same errors on my movies. I converted them with iSkysoft Media Coverter for Mac.
Some of the movies I used the iPhone 4 profile.:H.264, 960x640 res, 30fps, 1500kbps birate.
And some using the iPod Touch mp4 profile: mp4 video codec, 640x480 res, 30fps, 2500kbps bitrate.
So now I see why they arent working, although both of those profiles work for the Evo and Zune HD,.
What is the complete best video format, res, frame etc... for the Sprint Galaxy Tab?
BACKGROUND STORY NO ONE ASKED FOR FIRST:
I was using MX Video Player for awhile, but was kind of annoyed at how it would drop a frame every now and then with some of my video files (even using the Motorola sanctioned x264 encoding options of no CABAC, no B-Frames, no weighted-P or 8x8 DCT) and wanted to look for a new video player.
I was turned onto both Dice Player and BS Player. Both of these players seemed to play back video much better than MX Video Player, with no stutter or frame drop in my 720p files, so I was mostly happy. However, both of them had an issue I didn't like. Dice Player's software was only available in Trial form since their checkout account was suspended. BS Player wouldn't seek in some of my MKV files.
I scrapped Dice Player as there was no workaround for the BIG ASS CLICK HERE TO BUY BANNER AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN at the moment, but I started to investigate why BS Player wouldn't seek in some of my movies yet seek in others. (Dice Player seeked no problem, same for MX Video Player.)
My investigation concluded with BS Player having some sort of seeking problem with any movie file that was over 2GB. (That's 2,147,483,648 or 2,048MB.)
Other than that and what some say an interface that needs to be worked on, I think it's a great program. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who uses this player or is looking for a good movie player the quirk I found with it...
Most of my encodes with the proper baseline profile at CQ 22/AAC 160 are usually under 2GB, but I s'pose for the 3 movies I have that have issues, I'll try for CQ 23/AAC 128 and see if it is under 2GB and acceptable quality.
Hope this helps someone!!
Yea man - I agree. I was having issues w/ my MKV files - found Dice player and it worked fine - went to buy it but nogo. Found BS Player - works great as well.
Interface is a bit clunky - but I can live w/ that!
+1

I'm stock.
New version of this app in the Market today. Fixes my quirk plus adds ICS support. What what!
I must issue a warning... don't download the latest update to this software. Although it fixes seeking in files over 2GB, it breaks hardware acceleration so videos now play back in slow motions.
Very disappointed.
EDIT: Attached the old version as well as the old plugin for those who upgraded and didn't have a backup of it!! Old version works nicely minus the >2GB seek bug.
Will give it a try thanks.
Luckily I bought the Dice player before the market went down. One thing that is not mentioned a lot about it though.
I work in Africa every other month, no wi-fi. So after two weeks Dice player stops working as it cannot call home. This annoys me.
