I just ran across ROCKPLAYER... for far it looks like an excellent movie player for the Samsung Epic 4g.... free version has some restrictions (but you can live with them).... paid version $9.99 removes the restrictions... am watching an avi movie now... sounds like it supports multiple formats... avi, mkv, etc.... just posting this for anyone who may be looking for a good movie player for their phone.
The stock player plays all those formats fine. Do you think there is a need for a player app?
Word,no need for another player,i tried a few and to me stock is the best.Maybe for wmv,rmb files and such rockplayer is usefull.Does stock play wmv?I havent tried it.Rockplyer is nice for phones that don't have native support.
Epic 4G natively supports a wide selection of codecs. Rockplayer uses its own for playback and doesn't run that well in a lot of situations. The stock player works perfectly for anything except MKVs, where it doesn't support subtitles. However, mVideoPlayer takes advantage of built-in codecs and supports subtitles flawlessly.
Stock player doesn't play flash video rock player I recommend this app its my favorite
i personally like act 1 the best.. ive tried mplayer and rockplayer.. they are all good.. i just stuck with act1

Yeah act one is next best to stock, stock got more stretching options and 5.1
mVideoPlayer and act1 destroy rockplayer hands down.

mVideoPlayer only plays movies that your phone supports natively. So if the Epic can play m4vs, mVideoPlayer can.

Any recommendations on a good movie player app on my rooted Aria?
Rock player. there are 3 versions, i have V6+VFP installed (guess and check till one worked), and it's great. plays more formats than the stock media player, including avi.

I can second that, RockPlayer seems to be working quite well, though I don't remember which of the 3 versions I installed.
How big of a video file can the Aria handle. I recorded some HBO episodes of Entourage and other shows that I would like to play on it as well as some digital copies of movies. Can the Aria/Rockplayer handle that as well?
It sure can!

Double Twist seems to work well as well. It converts the videos when you "import" them to your device.
i put a down converted star trek blu ray using handbrake in mp4 format on my sd card at about 800 megs and played perfect VERY nice quality
How come.MSN. videos doesn't work?? Any idea how to make.it.work??
I personally use Act 1 Video Player and it works out quite nicely, also the 3d gallery apps plays a lot of the movies files I have. So that might be an option if you want them all in that organization layout.
I just use the stock sense movie player. It plays awesome, seek and pause work great.
And it does a fixed ratio fit based on height or width.
Its just missing some fast forward. Multispeed ff would be a nice addition.
So far I'm fine with Android but I still complain I playback video in Android doesn't work well. The problem is that in WinMO could perfectly reproduce videos in format AVI, resolution: 320 * 240 and FPS 18 but in Android can't do reproduce only recognized of all videos and movies that I have one that is in WMV, therefore transform a video that I had to that format while maintaining the same settings as in AVI and does not play well is unstable and closes only while playing and I tried moving some things in the converter of video formats and still did not play well.
My question is: is there any hack or something like that to make the playback of videos go better in Android or one player as CorePlayer it was that used in WinMO and had no problems with that AVI video format.
Greetings and I hope help me.

Convert them to MP4. You also might try yxplayer, which plays a lot of avi videos(not all though) for me although it's not free.

Thanks a lot! Transforming it to. mp4 and playing with yxplayer works well but I will have to transform everything again but the important thing is that it works.
Best regards.
I have had most success with arcmedia in the android market. It uses the FFMPEG codec library rather then the codecs built into android which means it plays more file types successfully then most others i have tried. It even has a stab at playing higher quality videos where you would normally only get sound in the standard player, but they still stutter a little.

Thanks for the recommendation but if you saw the answers the problem was solved transforming the videos to .mp4 and using the player YXPLayer, the player you mention does not work but I accept suggestions of other players who have best interface to YXPlayer.
are you saying rockplayer fails to play your original avis? (at least this is what i was recommending it for)

Does not play the videos that transforms .mp4 only showed audio.
Ok. I know there are several video players at the market. But not sure which is the best on the SGT.
I have VLC player on several of my machines at work and at home. It has become my #1 media player. Also, I have videos in these formats:
Extension: .mp4
- -video codec: H264 - MPEG 4 AVC (avc1) 480x192 @ 24 fps
- -audio codec: MPEG AAC (mp4a) 48khz
Extension: .ogv
- -video codec: Xiph.org Theora (theo) 1280x544 @ 24 fps
- -audio codec: Vorbis Audio (vorb) 48khz
I need a player that supports those video formats as well as others like xvid, .mov & .avi
I really want VLC Player on my tab but I guess it doesnt exist. So whats my alternatives?

I am using vplayer. But no matter which one you use, you will hear a faint humming sound in the headphones. I thought the problem was with vplayer but I noticed it in other players too except the stock player which has some cool features like bookmark and lock screen which others don't have.
Vplayer for streaming via tversity and upnp. Stock player is good but is very picky
Oh and vlc for android is due very soon

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I will try both mplayer and vplayer.
Well I read the VLC discussion forums and it seems that the developers are working hard but are still a long way from a release. By the looks of it perhaps by May or June we could have a stable VLC Player version at Android Market.

Video Player help???
Hey guys,
I have a Spring Galaxy Tab. I have it rooted and everything. I've been trying to find a all in one video player but none of them seems to be working correctly. I have several movies and videos I converted to watch on my EVO or my Zune HD, but now that I have my tab, I would like use them there too. All the videos are in Mp4 format with either a 320x240 res 600x480 (forget what the numbers are but its the level above 320x240).
Vplayer - starts up and immediately shouts down. The the icon changes and is grayed out with a little memory card icon on it. Then I have to uninstall it.
Divx Demo Player (Rock player with extras) - and it wont play anything. But it plays any format of video or movie on my Evo.
Rock Player - I have the new version from the site and it wont play anything
Seems like nothing is working.. Most times it gives a error saying the video formats are not supported. But I have all these video player on my Evo (Which I know is a completely different device) but I'm wondering if my TAB needs video codecs or something?
Any ideas?
Moboplayer
How about the stock video player of ginegerbird version,(with media striaght fight =false)?

I will try Moboplayer. I'm still running the stock rom. Havnet tried to update to Gingerbread yet. Didnt think any of the roms would work since they are not based on the Sprint Tab.
I think I know what's wrong
Still getting the same errors on my movies. I converted them with iSkysoft Media Coverter for Mac.
Some of the movies I used the iPhone 4 profile.:H.264, 960x640 res, 30fps, 1500kbps birate.
And some using the iPod Touch mp4 profile: mp4 video codec, 640x480 res, 30fps, 2500kbps bitrate.
So now I see why they arent working, although both of those profiles work for the Evo and Zune HD,.
What is the complete best video format, res, frame etc... for the Sprint Galaxy Tab?
Hi,
I want to play tv-show 720p MKVs on my droid 3.
However there's a problem.
The stock player plays MKVs fine (very smooth) but there's no audio.
I then tried rockplayer and moboplayer.
Both play the MKVs fine too in hardware mode, but again no sound
In software mode, both players produce sound however now the video is very choppy.
What player WILL play MKVs properly?
Thanks
Have you tried the VLC alpha?

Just tried it (neon version).
It has sound but like the others..very choppy and corruption too.
Read some good things about dice player. Tried the beta but it doesn't even show video (all corrupted colors etc).
I had the same problem with stupid-ass DICE player, big disappointment. Mobo is good for standard def, but not for hi-def/MKV.
The .MKV standard was invented by the guys at CoreCodec IIRC, which would explain how I used to be able to play 720p MKV's on my old 528MHz Tilt2 with CorePlayer; the player is naturally a master of its own codec... Do they make CorePlayer for Android? I bet it would totally play anything MKV better than any other player.

The thing is, it DOES play the MKV just great! It's very very smooth on hardware acceleration.. If they could just add the sound from software decoder mode..
All TV-shows use Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch audio. I know it's not the most simple, but how hard can it be to convert 6>2 channel and play this?
Hrm... Have you tried CorePlayer? I think they have a demo/trial version.
[EDIT] - Well crap-sticks. Looks like they don't have it for Android yet. It's $30 though, so not a cheap app anyways. It would have been a surefire method though...

the file you linked was removed (teporarily I presume) while I was downloading it.
It has the ac3 audio, i tested other ac3 6ch audio and they are working.
BTW, just in case, trans coding just the audio of a video file, with avidemux, is matter of a couple of minutes, practically on an actual pc, it takes less than copying the file on the phone.

I don't want to convert my files.. ALL tv shows are in this format.
It's not like its rocket science.. MKVs like this have existed for a long time and are used a lot. I don't see why it's not supported?

Hi all,
Just wondering what video player apps (free/paid) that's best for playing ANIME with Subtitle? (similar to PC's Media Player Classic thingy?able to choose audio and subtitle?)
Not sure anyone has hobby like mine, but I do carry some anime with me on my SD Card to watch on the go on my previous PDA (HTC KAISER) and it plays perfectly. (althou some doesn't have subtitle)
Anyone have similar situation and some advise to this android newbie?

Try either Dice or mVideo player, both work well with anime.
MX Video Player ( https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad and its codec pack at https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mxtech.ffmpeg.v7_neon ) has worked just peachy for me. It does have support for multiple streams et. al., and it's also plenty fast, too.

How do you organize pdfs? Pdfs are the bane of the organized people. You need to put them in a site, or a subfolder, with all the files similar, yet you also can't have duplicated pdfs.
