Hi all, i've been searching for months for an answer to my simple questions but unfortunately i cannot find the remedy anywhere!! Now what i have been wondering is, with the new 2.1 ROMS, where the exit keyboard button is, on the Desire there is a smiley face button instead, i believe this was installed on one ROM, however i preferred to use a stock based ROM as my daily phone, now what i am wondering is, does anyone know where i can get the keyboard with the smiley, possibly as an update ZIP? i am certain it exists somewhere, but i am unable to find it anywhere!
Now my second question is about the stock navbar, i have found a couple of update ZIP's to make it transparent, but what i am after is a complete change of it so it resembles the Froyo navbar or to be honest, anything but the standard one! any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Swiftkey has a smiley on the right side of the keyboard and is a very good keyboard as well. It tries to guess what your next word will be and offers a choice to you.
It is in the market so downloading and installing is a breeze.
does sound good however i have quite dubious about installing third party keyboards, i'm almost 99% that i have oreviously seen a HTC IME keyboard?? (sp) that was flashable to the hero, i just can't seem to find it anywhere!!
hmmm.... it seems like you want this keyboard?

Make sure you download the right one for your phone and follow the instruction on the page. I have pasted them here as well and added some addition notes.
Instructions:
* Download and unzip (not flashable update.zip!) This would be on your computer! After downloading extract or unzip the file. There will be 3 files in the folder after extracting counting the read me file.
* Install the two apks (HTC_IME & Clicker) using your favorite method (via a file manager or adb install -r). Sense users shouldn't (and needn't) install Clicker. (Put those two files on your SD card, and then using something like Astro file manager install them. You do this by opening your file manager, find the two files, click on them one at a time, and choose the option to install)
* There is no need to push anything to /system
* Go to Menu, Settings, Language & Keyboard. Activate "HTC_IME mod"
* To change keyboard, long press on lower left key on stock keyboard or any input field. Select input method in the menu.
* See note below if you have earlier versions than v22 installed already!
And as far as downloading 3rd party apps I wouldn't without reading some reviews as well. I have used the Swiftkey keyboard and like it very much. I have had zero issues with it and have tried it on several different roms.
Thanks a lot for your in depth reply, i got the keyboard working and i like it a lot! all i need now is another navbar, does anyone know of any replacements apart from the transparent standard ones?
thanks in advance!

You were probably using the HTC_IME MOD keyboard!
Anyway, I am unfamiliar with the term "Navbar". Do you mean the dock style area at the bottom of the screen? Many launchers seem to refer to this as the app drawer.
yes i think thats what it is, i've heard it called the Rosie too? its what separate launchers replace are there any replacements i can flash to the phone like the Expresso navbar? thanks

I searched and found a ton of "How do I customize the sliding keyboard sounds". But I am running Alex's multimedia ROM, and for the life of me can't figure out how to get the stock sliding keyboard sound back on my Tilt. I don't even have the option to turn it on in my settings anymore. It just appears to be gone.
Am I missing a setting? If not, is there a .cab to reinstall the sliding sounds option?
Thanks

WP, that did it. Thanks. I did notice a slow down in regen when the screen is going from portrait to landscape though. However, I end up with the link in settings/personal, and the same sounds I had before I flashed.
I am using Alex ATT MM 1.6 and the sounds work too, but I dont see the link in settings/personal.
EDIT: Reboot and found it.
hello seniors,
http://rapidshare.com/files/79748184/SH4Y_Sliding_Sounds_Configure.cab this file does what? is it the software that allows the phone play a sound when opens and closes? OR is it configure the sound of the sliding keyboard? if i hd the software of keyboard sliding sound built in when i got this phone do i need to install this .cab? thanks

total noob needs help with missing sliding sounds.
Hi I just downloaded the Tilt_SlidingSounds.CAB.
I then unzipped it on my computer and moved the folder containing the filles to my Vario III and put it in the windows folder. Using file explorer I found the folder opened it and hit setup. it worked but the sliding keyboard sound tweaker was placed in the windows folder too. So not saticefied with this I moved over the whole zip file to my phone and put it in my personal folder where I exicuted the cab. owever I could still only find it near the bottom of the windows folder and I want it in the settings/personal where my original one used to be before the phone got sent off for repair.
Although this tweaker works it only has 3 sounds to choose from. Is this right too?
Please give advice to all of this I am eager to learn and am still searching through the FAQs
Thanks

ThrottleLauncher is a launcher app designed for Windows Mobile 6. Basically it consist's of several pages containing rows. Each of the rows depending of it contents can be scrolled horizontally by using the finger. The app is fully configurable through xml files so the rest of the features depends on the diferent setups.
Essentially, this is probably the clossest we can get to the new TouchFLO 3D (codename: Manilla) software to run on our low powered Wing/Herald/p4350.
Version 0.9.1 is in beta testing, and will be available to the public soon, you can watch the videos here.
You must download both CAB files and install them (order does not matter) and softreset when finished.

how can I get my ppc 6800 to look like this one and what apps ...
So we cannot get our WING to look exactly like the HTC Diamond with Touchflo3D on it?
If no, why is it so? is it because the WING is only 200Mhz and the Diamond is 528Mhz?
I have installed Throttlelauncher but I have too much trouble setting up and using it and I thought there may be a ROM ported from the Diamond onto the WING directly from HTC.
Can someone please point me to the exact instructions for installing the throttle launcher and touchflo 3D. I need the idiots version because I have never installed cab files or anything like that.
Thanks
i got it running on my mogul great my only issue is i cant get my pixz and my weather is in c and i need it in F can anybody help me with these 2 things?
Elle-Cie: Thats basics you should not need ask in this forum (or any forum, since google answers the question for you) but:
Simply transfer the cab file to the device in any way you like, and run it from the file browser to install. Or install using active sync.
About the app:
-Full screen does not work wit the TF3D theme. (replace taskbar)
-->The bar is not at the top of the screen. (It is room for about one more bar above it), and the navigation line disappears below the bottom of the screen.
-->When it does not disappear below the screen, it disappears below the bottom WM-bar (the one with "phone" and "contacts" on it)
-->When neither of the above happens, The keyboard-icon (to toggle on-screen keyboard) is on top of throttlelauncher, and makes navigation difficult.
Forgot to mention: I am using i780 with a 320x320 resolution, so I guess this might be related to my screen size not beeing supported. It would be nice if it could be, though.
There are also a font issue in the calendar-tab. The dates doesn't really fit in the grid - they are too big.
i tried installing this but it give me an error and now it lauching on its own but again all it gives me is an error
where do i download them to? plz help
To download: www.throttlelauncher.com
About other posts: please try last version and compatible themes, as last version is not compatible with old themes. And take care about the compatibility with your screen size, if the theme is designed for a determinate screen.
More: If your problem is related to Throttlelauncher but not tothe Herald, use the main throttlelauncher thread in (non-device-depending) Software section. Also in the developer's web.
if i want to add a"third party" keyboard to Cyanogen's build
how to accomplish that?
and if i want to make it the default keyboard
how to do that..?
thanks in advance
Roy
if this "third party" keyboard is an app like better keyboard or something similar, i would assume just install it or put into your update.zip package and flash it. it should appear under settings-locale and text and just check it on and uncheck any other keyboards like with the htc_ime. unless you are talking about something else then in theory this should work.
thanks for the comment
yes it is an App file.. so i just need to add it to system/app in the update?
and how i can make it the default keyboard so right after a fresh install it would appear and ready to use with specific config that i set?
thanks again

I don't think you can. All roms use android kbt as default (don't quote me on this but I believe so)and it's more trouble then it's worth to make something else default before install. It would be easier to go into settings->locale and text the first time you use it and just make it default (i.e. uncheck all other VKs). Once you do that, your vk will pop up everytime you touch fill-able field. Hope that helps.
OK, I'm curious about the other keyboard. The hardware keyboard. I have a German G1, and have actually become quite fond of QWERTZ even though I mostly only speak English. I've gotten used to reaching down for y and up for z. Also, There are keys like the euro symbol that I actually use a lot living in Deutschland. Not to mention that all the little symbols are laid out completely differently than QWERTY, so looking at the keys just makes life that much tougher. Anyways, I want to change QWERTZ to be my default keyboard, other than having to type in a long string of commands each time or use gscript. I would like it to be so that it works in recovery, and doesn't get lost each time I change builds. Is this possible?
hmmm, I would say yes...I wouldn't be able to tell you how though. I downloaded Russian keyboard from the market and it has the ability to change mapping of hardware KBT and change languages on it. So obviously there is a way. I believe devs name is Game Warrior (could be one word). It's on the market... contact him-he may be able to point you in the right direction.
Also... did you try switching locales in Settings->Locale and Text menu? That could do the trick (not sure what would you choose though as I'm not familiar what country uses QWERTz set-up).
Good luck, I hope you figure it out... sorry I had it easy.. I just dl'd my vk from the market
I DID have it working when I first got my phone. Everything was just dandy with JF1.51 as well. I decided to install the latest DizzyJACHero, and had to update my recovery image, SPL and Radio. Somewhere in there, it borked things up. I tried going back to another SPL and recovery, but only ended up in bootloops when I did that. I redid everything, but I'm stuck with QWERTY unless I do some terminal stuff each time I change roms. And with all the nice new ones (I LOVE Rosie, but she's a resource/battery hog) it's becoming more frequent that I change roms. Eh, I guess I'm just stuck having to terminal my way out of it, like usual with computers.
SPL, Radio and/or Recovery image have nothing to do with the way your keyboard behaves... hmmmm
Here... talk to DudeOfLife in the developement forum (pm him or something). His rom at some point had every language and every layout included.. he should know about this. As an alternative... you can make a script of what you put in terminal and have G1 run it on start-up to change mapping for you. Rogro82 is the king of scripts fyi.
Good luck
all u need to do is istall the new keyboard as an update. thats if it come in an update.zip format. otherwise, just install the .apk file and you should be good to go. best of luck!

Well, I actually feel kinda smart for once. I just opened up a build which had the QWERTZ files in it. I deleted everything else except that folder (and the ones inline above it) and those files. Renamed them to the v3 files. I also added in all the ringers/notifications/alarms that I wanted from other builds in the right locations as well. I now can unzip any build I want to check out, copy the system folder I created over, and it fixes all my keyboard issues, plus ensures I'm never left with just one ringtone/alarm again. Just rezip and resign, then I can flash it right over. Just verified it all worked before posting. If anyone else wants that, I recommend trying it. My next question will be, can I JUST use these files, make a new update.zip that I will flash over any existing rom. If so, I'll just make one and post it up. Well, I guess I may as well try that now. I'm not doing much else tonight.
So, quick answer, NO. It didn't work like I hoped.
Long answer, If I understood more about the update script, I may have been able to get it to work. I noticed it was formatting the System folder when it went to install, pretty much screwing EVERYthing up. Maybe if someone knows how to make the script only replace the files instead of completely wiping the system folder, I may have something others can use. As it stands, it's really useful for me, and pretty much noone else.

1. Can't you put your commands (that you type in the terminal) into your userinit.sh and it will run on every start up? Not a pro about this but I think it's one way of doing it.
2. There's a guy in the development forum who will build a custom rom for you. He made a post, you should see it on first or second page. Drop him a line. He may just show the way how to do it or he may just build you a rom. Don't worry, we'll figure it out one way or another
Cool, sounds good. I was looking at the script, and it's pretty straight forward. I COULD possibly figure it out if I wanted, but I wouldn't want to put other people's phones at the risk of me being an idiot. Heh. I'll check with the other guy. Thanks
i do like the keyboard that it comes with, but my fingers are too big. i hit the "." when i mean to hit "space", and i hit other buttons when i dont mean to. i want something that will learn my keystrokes. my buddy was telling me about HTC_IME and clicker, but i cant seem to find the right files. i looked into a tatto build, and took the apk files, but they wont install. i get "this program can not install on this device" error

If you want only the english language...you can ignure the steps with language... But you must change to 120 dpi and change the dialer (contacts.apk)....look here:
Htc ime... it´s a long way....
Start....:
Installation Instructions
1. Install both HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk.
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
3. Menu -> Settings -> Locale & text. Enable 'Touch Input'.
4. Go to a text field and long-hold until a menu pops up.
5. Select 'Input Method' and then 'Touch Input'
1.1 Download the latest htc ime from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
or here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
2.1 make the system root/write access to change the name of libt9
- open terminal
- type "su"
- type "mount -o remount,rw /system"
... and then I could rename the file w/ Root Explorer (must be root explorer..i think)
3.1 change the language: look here:
http://ostebaronen.dk/changing-htc_ime-language-to-danish/
a bit easier: change to htc ime...go to sms and long press on the input text...now a menu come and you can change....
go in a explorer to: data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml (now visible)--and copy it to sd card...
open the xml and change the language code (like in the link)....copy it over the old one....
please do not change the lang setting in text input settings...(you don´t see a lang in this box now)
i think it was all
edit: for the correct view: change to 120 dpi....and take my corrected dialer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676102
Now it´s all...i hope
Super easy, you can get the HTC keyboard in 240x320.
Just follow the instructions,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
You will need to d/l the two files and install root explorer.

With kind regards..Alex
personally i like the HTC keyboard because i feel the text prediction better because of the clicker.apk includes a calibration app and it seems to adapt to me alot fast than other keyboards.
i also like that if i want to use a number or symbol i can just long hold on a key instead of having to switch to a secondary menu all the time

That's your problem. You have a 240x320 hardware screen on the Vogue, and you are trying to use a resolution that it is not meant for. I do not understand why people think they can do this, and still expect things to function. First of all, you do not NEED the extra resolution, I run about 20 games and 15 apps on my phone, of all different sources, and 240x320 is fine. Secondly, use LCD density "113", just change the build.prop file before flashing NAND, and you are good to go. I have zero issues at all, with any apps.
-C
i AM running the 240x320, but tried the 320x480 just in case that was the issue. finally got it installed, but everytime i run the calibration it says" SORRY, the application has stopped unexpectedly. please try again".. maybe i just dont have the right file? i got it from another topic on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525&page=5
Can someone please tell me what is wrong with the default Android keyboard? I am 6'7" tall, and my hands are HUGE. My pinky is bigger than my wife's thumb, and I actually text with MY thumb, just fine, which is friggin huge, and I have no issues.
I am just baffled, because I see these 'alternate keyboard' threads all the time, so obviously there must be an issue for some ppl with the keyboard, but I guess for once it is not for us fat-fingers folks. Is it hard to use for small fingers maybe? I am so curious about this as the Android keyboard is such a breeze for me to use.

Yeah, I love the speed of the default keyboard. I've tried Betterkeyboard, and all those, Shapewriter, I think just about every one, and while some are cool, and hold potential, for me none compare to the speed of input in the default. I can type pretty damn fast with the default.
The only keyboard I can see being significantly better is Touchpal. If you remember it from Winmo, it was a FAST and efficient keyboard. But the developer keeps promising a release date, and renigging on it. If you feel like a laugh, go check out the forums:

Hi,
First off thanks to all the developers. I bought a DHD a couple of weeks ago. With the help of some very useful noob guides (thanks again) its all rooted and booted, out of its shackles and ready to fly as it was meant to. I have put cyanogen6.1.0 RC2 on it and I love it.
The only issue I am having so far is to do with the keyboard. I have fat fingers and often mis type or get mis auto corrected. to fix I have to tap on the area of text I need to correct. Problem is fat fingers mean cant put the cursor exactly where I want and a few seconds of unnecessary frustration. On my previous Magic I could scrol with the roller ball.
Anyways to conclude my essay, the HTC sense keyboard that was originally on my phone had arrows that would allow me to move around (good for fat fingers) the cyanogen keyboard doesnt (not so fat finger friendly).
Is there a way I can find the HTC sense Keyboard apk and use on the cyanogen? Where do I find this file?
Sorry for the long post,
here you go this is as close as youll get to sense keyboard

Never fear things are much, much better in Gingerbread. Cyanogenmod 7 will alleviate all your woes. I've been told by the developers that it even cures cancer and of course there will be no world hunger if everyone has Gingerbread to eat.

I just tried the HTC_IME_hi22. I have selected it (ticked it) in my 'Language and Keyboard' and in the settings tried to mess about with swipe gestures to move between words. No luck. The keyboard seems exactly the same as it was before and fat finger issue still persists. Do I need to somehoe deactivate the old keyboard? can I not find the apk from my sense rom and drop it into cyanogen rom?
I see you have enabled the keyboard, but have you selected it? Press and hold on text entry box and choose "Input method", then select "HTC_IME mod". Your new keyboard will now be used.
Elementary my dear watson! Thanks,
Thats exactly what I had not done! the app looks the part, but still no luck from the finger swipe and navigation arrows. Ive had a look at swype and one or two others. they dont have this navigation either. Fat fingers crossed for gingerbread
to serve this key can be changed, thanks
HTC Sense Keyboard for Incredible S/CM7
I realize this is the Desire HD forum, but I thought I would post here first before starting a new thread. I've been searching around for a while, and along with this thread, I found another (link below), that provides links to and HTC sense keyboard .apk that can be used instead of the stock CM7 keyboard. I used the Sense keyboard for almost a year on my Incredible S before I installed CM7, and so really miss the long press for special characters, as well as the auto-correct feature I came to rely on so much.
My question is, If I download and install one of these .apk's (either the one in this thread, or the thread I linked), SHOULD it work on the Incredible S, or do I need to find an .apk specific to my phone. I tired installing the one from the link, but when trying to switch to it in the Messaging app, it just force closes right away.
Apologies if there is already a thread related to this for the Incredible S. I did some searching but couldn't find anything. And of course, Thanks in advance for any help you folks can provide.

Seriously dude? There is a Q&A thread for things like this for one and yout question has nothing to do with themes.
You can just download gingerbread keyboard from the market and enable it from settings.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Got it.
Thanks

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but the HTC_IME_hi22 actually worked on my RaZr. Only problem, there is a bit of a gap on the right side. So the keyboard seems to be slightly 'left aligned' badly put.
Can any1 help me with this. Am on RaZr, qHD screen.
