depends, if you are using a video that is of incorrect format 4:3 or 16:9 then it will not be full screen, unless you are using a video playback program that will stretch the video.

seems like it should be simple enough but cant find a way to watch a video in portrait mode. I tried the stock movie and video player and mobo player and both of them automatically go into landscape mode when i play a video and no way to go to portrait.
*I'm watching a video shot on a cell phone in portrait mode (narrow and tall) and it only uses about a 1/4 of the screen when in landscape instead of full screen portrait which is how i want to
some players support it some dont. just make sure auto rotate is on...
all you can do...

some players support it, such as?....
I'm using ADW Ex and I can watch videos how ever I want to with auto rotate.
Also, you can change it in your browser's settings.

Possible with some players, and not with others (like the Samsung stock video player).
ok guys I think we covered the "Some do, Some Dont" how about posting links or app names now lol
Shot some video over the weekend for the first time with the O2X. Was shocked to find that the recorded footage did not auto-rotate when transferred to my PC and played back, Am I missing something?
If not is there a way to rotate the footage and keep the 'quality' as I've converted to AVI and then rotated in Windows movie maker and the quality is pretty crap even on DV-AVI
You are missing that video are not the same as pictures and does not have features to "rotate"
Video are defined in specifik formats - you do not have a viewing option for landscape or portrait like you do for pictures. Video are allways in specific landscape dimensions, like 1280x720 pixels or 640x480 etc. and allways played back in landscape format.
So video should allways only be recorded holding the phone in landscape mode, never in portrait mode.
So I noticed, just like OP. But is there any way to rotate the video without quality loss?

no thats not possible
rotating a video means reencoding and cropping to a correct videoresolution
Ah, yes... It figures when you need to crop... Thanks for the info.

I am using Chromcast to display a static website on a large display at work via Casting a Tab with Google Cast. The text looks fuzzy on 720p modes. Do you think Google will ever put in a 1080p mode into Google Cast?
I'm guessing not unless they do a major revamp of how it works. In your case your best result will either be to cast a 720p-sized tab (use the option to resize the tab for best display) or use Vbukit to display the site.
You'll get poor results - both performance-wise and quality-wise - if it has to downscale a larger image to 720p then have the display upscale that downscaled result. Displaying a native 720p image upscaled to 1080p should look pretty good. Fact of the matter is, some of the HD TV content you receive is still 720p so it's being upscaled too.

Thank you for the reply.
I bit the bullet and ordered up a 25ft HDMI cable and will have it run from the display to the workstation what is "serving" up this website.
I really need the 1080p resolution to be able to fit all the content and have it readable.

Got it. I suggested Vbukit but it seems the 2.0 version has removed the ability to send web URLs - seems they were just snapshots anyway though.
Actually, if you find you really need to be un-wired and it's a static or scripted website demonstration, you could make a photo stream or video and present that.
Vbukit can present PowerPoint among other Office filetypes.
Is there a way to make video fit to screen with no black bars on each side when on full screen or landscape mode. My phone is currently rooted as well. Thanks

You may want to reword the thread as a question. It seems more like a statement that you have already figured this out. Just a thought.
I don't know if this works as i don't have recieved the phone yet, but try to copy the youtube link and paste it here.
stretch.site
It has sliders that let you chose your own aspect ratio. Maybe you can reach fullscreen in that way?
i think the only way you can do it is to root, install xposed, and make changes with per app settings. that should work i think
I currently download the youtube video with TubeMate, then open the clip with MX Player Pro or KMPlayer. In MX Player Pro it's possible to enable pintch to zoom, so you can over-zoom until there are no black bars visible. KMPlayer allows to zoom in a bit, which for some youtube videos is sufficient to remove all black bars, but not for the youtube videos that have black bars encoded in the video already.
Anyone successfully changed the Youtube DPI with an xposed DPI changer, to allow overzoom?
Because the aspect ratio is different, it won't happen natively. Like the other poster suggested, you need to zoom in the screen to chop off the top/bottom of the video.
just bumping this thread. Has anyone come up with a solution for per app? would love to be able to pinch-zoom native in the app.
Some apps like Netflix scale pretty damn well, most shows will take full advantage of the screen and movies will zoom to fit the width (leaving very narrow black bars), whereas youtube and iplayer leave these little black edges left and right... is a shame.
I just tried the latest guardians of the galaxy trailer and it played in full screen, i was trying to so what size that video is. Maybe new videos on YouTube are going to start being played in different ratios since the new up coming phones are 18.9
You can do it without root on every video on Youtube !
Just activate the "Magnification gesture" setting and then triple tap whenever you want to "zoom in" a Youtube video,it will still crop a little part of the video to make it full screen if the ratio is not the same though.

Native app feature from Youtube app version 12.44.54. Updated today and works fine.

please explain how you got it to work then
Unlock or rooted device is needed
1)install buildprop from playstore
2) now add these line save and then restart your device
Command : sys.display-size=3840x2160
Note : 3840x2160 here after 3840 this is not into (×) its small x (x letter)
3) after restart open YouTube and check for quality it will be changed

Like I said, the screen is not a 4K resolution screen, therefore even if u set the video to 4K, you're watching a 1080p video whilst putting ur CPU under extra loads

Fool's logic....support @SleepingAran s post. You are repeating a Microsoft error message text/post....technically correct information but totally useless to the customer, just like a bicycle for a fish.

Beats me?
Our screen do not have 4K resolution that's a fact. So even if u enabled it, you can't see 4K, and putting extra working on CPU for nothing.
