I was looking SGS disassembling pictures , but I have not been able to identify the chipset,
i I suppose it is broadcom or samsung , WIFi and BT are inside samsung SWB-B23 for sure ,
but i dont know if there are in a ingrated chipset like broadcom BCM20751 or in diferent chips ,

quick q's about MSM7201a chips' gps

is it possible for phone that uses MSM7201a to remove gps only?
in korea, they recently launched lg incite phone with MSM7201a, but gps is not included. but i thought it wasn't possible for you to remove gps ability from MSM7201a. anyone has the answer?
Yes, it is possible. Producer can not add pinouts for gps, can not add gps antenta to phone, etc. And also GPS module can be blocked itself.
thats really the main difference between the HTC hermes and the trinity. in the trinity the gps antenna is connected
so it that mean that gps chip is there but its just not connected? or is that mean they just took the gps module? cause what i've heard was that gps chip s can not be removed in MSM7201a
Yes, that is mean GPS is there but you can't make use of it. Few pda's have MSM7200 processor without GPS capabilities - HTC Touch Dual, LG KS20 etc.

Liquid & radio Fm ?

Somewhere in inetrnet some say that there is the hardware for FM radio and requires only an application to make it work? Fact or fantasy?

The Snapdragon chip has FM in it.
But the Liquid doesn't have FM, dunno if it's disabled or took out (hardware)
So what I read is not a fantasy, I hope someone develops a utility that allows us to use it!
I think its the bluetooth chip that have FM receiver, not the CPU.
Check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608340
If Bluetooth chip is same then Liquid should have radio and since F1 has radio and F1 and Liquid hardware are pretty much the same, I think there is big possibility Liquid to have radio, which is disabled.
Also I have seen in a dump from HTC Espresso a radio application.
Look at this:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4325
I wonder then why FM radio is disabled and the bluetooth is 2.0 instead of 2.1??

bluetooth might be because android just started supporting bt 2.1 in eclair (who knows if updating the radio will make it work in 2.1 instead of 2.0)... fm radio who knows...

It occurs to me that we are experiencing growth Andorid day to day, who knows if in a not too distant future we will also see an application that runs the FM receiver
Exactly, giving the limited resources Acer has to making Android phones (probably just ramping up), they decided to skip on developing software drivers for the FM radio since they figured most people will use 3G streaming. but I like FM radio since it uses way less power and for those who don't have a data plan to burn through. Hopefully someone is able to write software drivers for the FM radio.
Some notes on this subject:
1.Acer has little to nothing to do to get the FM working, it's broadcom who makes the bluetooth (and thus FM) driver. What Acer has to do is only a GUI, which isn't hard to do
2.Nexus One has the same chip (ok, not the same, but they share the same driver), and doesn't have FM enabled either, that makes me think their might be some problem somewhere. (but the previous posts stating that using FM on a recent smartphone is unusual seems like a good guess.)
3.I've seen linux FM drivers for BCM4325, in Samsung Galaxy ROM (It's the btld daemon)
The thing is that this driver is fully closed source and doesn't use the bluez stack (linux bluetooth stuff), that's perhaps the reason why Acer and Google decided not to use it.
Anyway these chips are used by N1, Samsung Galaxy (I7500), iPhone 3GS, HTC HD2, HTC Touch Pro2, well, all brand new shiny phones, so it's likely someone of these developers will get something at some point
Does have milestone same chip?
Any news on radio fm recevier on liquid??

No, milestone have TI wl1271, we have Broadcom bcm4325
an fm radio would rock my world...any news
do you say FM radio!!!!!
If yes, is it possible somehow to enable it....because I realize games,mp3 and chatting doesn't mean entertainment for me on the road.....
I've heard bradcomm released data sheets for their liquid bluetooth chip...
any news on this topic, or fm is just too simple ?
and what about terrestrial digital radio (sorry, french..) ?
can it be supported or received at all by our phones ?
may be it need new hardware ?
well, i'm glad to wake up this thread, as i've got some good news
i'm not able to use it myself, so i'll wait for others or the release of the thing in question.
No more waiting, here it is : fm is coming to our liquids

[Q] FM Transmitter

Most references I see to the chip in the Galaxy S for handling the Bluetooth, WiFi, and FM are listed as a broadcom. I was unable to locate a chipset on broadcoms site that lists support for Bluetooth 3.0, but I did notice nearly all of the broacom chips that support FM radio support it as RX and TX. Is the chip in the Galaxy S a broadcom, and if so has anyone found a way to enable the TX portion? It was more a curiosity question as I'm sure the TX power is low as is the sound quality, but hey if it does offer it, why not exploit it?
Maybe this has already been answered for the Samsungs and I just missed it in my searches. The searches only returned other brand/model phones.
The other question I was wondering is if the FM range is hard coded in the chip, or if it's a soft radio where the RX frequencies could be shifted to say the Weather Band in the US, or some other area near the normal FM radio range? Again, this is all more out of curiosity than anything.
Edit>
I found this one that supports BT 3.0 and still lists FM RX/TX
BCM20751 - Bluetooth® + GPS + FM Combination ('Combo') Chip Solution
Well, this is like the only thing I'm missing from my old Nokia N97.. So I would like it.

Well, after looking at the Samsung source for the I9000, it appears they use the SI4709 chip for FM reception, and that chip doesn't support FM TX, just RX.

[Q] Galaxy S Bluetooth 3.0 ? true/false ?

Hello all,
I just found that chip that is responsible for bluetooth in i9000 doesnt look like supporting BT3.0. Can anyone confirm that or can anyone tell me how can i test/confirm it?
G.
its said to be BCM4329 inside SGS -> http://pdf.eccn.com/pdfs/Datasheets/Broadcom/BCM4329.pdf but as clearly you can see Broadcom says it is "Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR"
BCM4329-B1 that is said to be inside i9003 and some new Spirit HTC Kingdom device or in T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide (HTC Doubleshot) on the other hand is said to have "Bluetooth 3.0" (every other spec seems to be same as in BCM4329 but have not found any datasheet for BCM4329-B1 so i speculate)
my sgs box says it is 3.0 / my carrier said 3.0 / samsung poland states 3.0 - i am realy confused now =)
if not BCM4329 what chip is inside, BCM4329-B1 or other?
The Broadcom BCM4329 is actually a Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR chip. Samsung enabled Bluetooth 3.0 support through a custom Bluetooth stack. Additionally, the chip has a built-in FM transceiver but, unfortunately, Samsung didn’t put that part to work.

Broadcom was demonstrating the capabilities of its newest Bluetooth + WiFi combo chips here at MWC this year. Its new BCM4329 chip - already used in the HTC HD2, Touch2, and Nexus One - is capable of supporting Bluetooth 3.0 with the proper software (driver stack) on the phone.

its 2.1 but 3.0 ;]

Any chance of getting FM receiver to work on WP8?

Hello my friends!
I have searched a lot, but it seems that getting the FM receiver to work on our Snapdragon S4 devices will not happen, at least in the near future.
Anyone has any different (and encouraging) info here?
Does Microsoft give out resources that could make this possible by a dev, or they pretend it does not exist?
Thanx in advance.
Konstantinos
There are no APIs for it. So currently Developers can't use the feature in Apps. At the moment we don't even know if all the hardware required is even inside the phones. The Snapdragon SoC does support it but that is not all the hardware that is necessary.
Let's pretend it doesn't exist. However over at the TechMeShow I was making an FM Transmitter and now uses my Bluetooth module for "FM Radio" streaming. It's hardware, not just Software.
