I have the N1 rooted with cyonagen latest Rom and I notice that anytime I hook up my data cable to computer to transfer files that after I disconnect I am losing some widgets on my home screen. I had the app batt widget and Tajm and also silent widget (all installed from the market). after I disconnect all apps disappeared and left with the message,"problem loading widget". I checked in the add to home screen widgets and the names of the apps are not there. I then checked in the settings/ applications/...and then apps show as being installed on the phone.I also notice that my input method for Texting also is gone and reset to the default android Text Input. I then have to go to my settings/keyboard and then check the Sywpe box or the Swiftkey box. Has anyone experienced anything like this? its driving me crazy as I have to uninstall and intall apps all over again. Thanks in advance
sounds like you have apps installed to the memory card. its a well known issue that any apps on the sd card become not viewable when connected to usb. and wigets cannot be installed to the sd card for this same reason.

Thanks for the response, Yes I do have my apps installed to the memory card. I was not aware of these problems of widgets & apps. I guess I will have to move my widgets to memory.

Recently my phone has displayed a task bar notification of low memory...and after clicking it, it takes me to the remove programs menu...
since this occured my emails wont sync. The settings are emails should automatically sync, however it isn't working...
any ideas?
Do you have root? Have you partitioned your SD card? What ROM are you running?
If you're not rooted, move any cache you can to your sd card and remove some apps.....or root and move everything to your sd card!

It is not actually low on memory, it is low on STORAGE SPACE.
In other words, you DISK IS FULL.
The reason it won't sync is that it needs to use some storage space to store the data that it syncs.
You need to delete some junk and then it will work again.
Also note: That menu isn't just for deleting programs. It can also be used to clear program data, for example, scroll down and click on "Browser" -- it will give you the option to delete some stuff (cache, etc.).
hey, im root.. on the newest CM, I have already got apps on sd...the low memory display appeared after putting on a 50mb file...since then, I have deleted around 200mb, but the memory notification wont leave.
any help?
You need to delete it from the place that is full... INTERNAL STORAGE.

i am noticing many settings/apps are not loading up when i restart my nexus. for example, the market doesnt show all my apps in the downloaded section, my swype and swiftkey isnt enabled (checkmarked in settings), and apps installed on card dont show up instantly (but not a biggie because they will all load up once nexus is fully powered up). is anyone else having these power up problems?
Edit:

i found apps that should start up when froyo is loading up wont auto start if the apps are installed to SD. move these apps (like weatherbug elite, locale, mylock, meebo, live wallpapers, switch pro, y5, swype or any keyboards) to phone then run them. reboot the phone and they should all load up. took me some time to figure this out because after moving some apps they would show up as not installed but on another reboot they showed up fine. this solves the "why are my apps not auto starting on reboot/power up with froyo 2.2"

Kind of sounds like an issue with apps on the SD card maybe?
I'd maybe look at pushing those back onto internal storage to see if it has any effect on things. Any apps installed to the SD card will definitely not load instantly - the phone doesn't actually scan the SD card until the OS is pretty much fully loaded as I understand it.
Also, what he ^^^ said.
yes i dont mind them taking a while since they seem to load after the phone is fully powered up so not a biggie there. i will try what iammuze suggested

I'm thinking that I may have a bad SD card in my N1.
Current setup:
[email protected] [v2.8] MCR r19 MOD [FRF83]
Old style A2SD+
After a little while, in this case an hour or so, any app that is installed/moved to the SD card become inaccessible. The OS sees the app, sort of. Most of the time the link to an app disappears all together. Sometime there will still be a link to an app, but when I try to launch it, it says the app is no longer installed. I'll go into the app manager(settings, application, manage) and apps that were installed/moved to the SD card just show a generic SD card icon and I can't get any info for the app. I try restarting/force stopping the launcher (both LauncherPro and ADW) and sometime the apps will show up again and will work, sometime the icon will show but will not launch, and sometime the app are still gone. And eventually, I will not be able to see the SD card when hooked to my computer. On the flip side though, if I boot into recovery(RA 1.0.7), I can turn on USB-MS Toggle and I can copy to and from the SD card all I want.
I just a full wipe(factory reset, cache, dalvik, ext, battery, rotate) because I was having these problems before, and I was using the regular Froyo A2SD before, so I decided to us the old style A2SD+ this time to see if that fixed the problem, but it's still happening.
Again, I'm thinking bad SD card, but I'd like some other opinions/ideas/confirmations.
So no one has any thoughts on this?
So i just purchased a htc hero about a week ago and i'm having some problems.
1) phone lags really bad i thought maybe cause i had music on my sd card or a few apps but after deleting them it lags just as bad. Is there any way to end the lag or is that just the way the phone is?
2) track ball, menu, home buttons, etc.. do not light up all the time or will randomly flash.
3) I have been reading about rooting the phone, but have the Build # 2.27.651.6 and read that i have to downgrade to the .5, but i have no idea how to back up all my information(numbers, pictures, media etc..)
I would extremly apperciate any help that anyone can provide, Because this is the first " smart phone" i have ever purchased and i'm really forward to being able to root the from and do things i never knew a phone could do.
2. The lights are based on the light sensor. You block the light getting to it and the trackball, LEDs, etc light up.
3.
Numbers: you can either download HTC Sync here http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631 which will sync your contacts to Outlook
or if you prefer, you can of course sync via Google contacts. Settings > Accounts & sync > Google > check Sync Contacts and let it sync
Pictures and media: just backup everything on your SD card. Connect phone to PC, and when prompted on the phone, click mount as Disk drive. Open the sd card via My Computer, and copy and paste everything onto your PC.
Edit: I just realized, changing a ROM/downgrading/etc won't affect your SD card at all. You don't have to worry about backing up pictures and media, they will just stay on your SD card unharmed. You could always make a backup if you feel paranoid, though.
If you want a quick speed boost and don't really care for Sense UI, try downloading LauncherPro from the market. It's free and a really fast home replacement.

I agree. I love it. More customizable than Sense, too. Well, if you're not a widget freak. I only use a few and I got them from the Market or they were the stock Android ones.
Well i downloaded the launcherpro and it didn't stop the lag. It still lags when i open text messages or go through my contacts.

LauncherPro helps with gerneal home screen navigation speed.
And yeah I hate the HTC messaging app lag. I switched to Handcent (free). It opens everything way faster. I don't go through my contacts through the People app often so it doesn't bother me.
Another tip: download Spare Parts (free) and set window and homescreen animations to Fast (or if you really don't care, None).
I downloaded Spare Parts and Handcent and it helped out quite a bit. Now i have a nother issue I tried to root my phone last night but had to do the downgrade to the .5build but everytime i tried it kept saying USB ERROR 170 or something like that...
I use note 7000b 2.3.5dxkk1
rooted
I found this problem that app I installed in sdcard
their icon on home sceeen sometime they disappear
they change to gray clour and cant open it.
Hv to restart it and will be normal its happen several time
so where this problem might come from
anyone hv this before?
Thanks
Oh and sometime my gallery is empty too
u think is might comefrom exsdcard(Sandisk class6 32g)
I have the exact same issue. I guess it's titanium backup related. Have you ever get your apps frozen via titanium backup or moved them to sdcard using titanium backup?
Rebooting the device once solved my problem for good. I never had such issue ever since I rebooted.

I never used titaniumbackup for anything yet
only back up once for game never restore.
So I glad atleast the problem might not came from sdcard
which I just bought it.
So May be hv to wait for ICS. Its may help my issue.
Thanks a lot.

This has been happening to me too and I'm on an unrooted stock ROM with a 16-gb Class 4 Transcend micro SDHC.
don't install too many apps to sd and you won't have this problem.
known issue with sd card. but none of the devs fix the problem
Let me give it to Samsung Gnote ... i never used to install so much apps on any of my previous devices. So much built in memory is provacating

Actually I install only a few app
and couple game in sd card mostly,
I only kept my file in it.
I hv change my sd class4 to class6 once
I though its too slow but problem still there
Fast Boot option may be the culprit
This is actually a long-standing problem in Android OS, going back at least two years (donkey's years in this technology!)
Something about the interaction of the OS and an sdcard formated for holding apps creates odd behaviours.
Lots of complicated suggestions have been made, including reformatting sdcard, reinstalling ROMs, changing launchers (the one suggested here) and such.
None of these approaches seems really to solve the problem even in most cases.
This is the first I have read about app overload on an sdcard being a "known issue" (known to whom? XDA?), although I can well believe the possibility that it COULD be true. Still... Just where might the cutoff point be? Also, isn't an active app loaded into memory, so this would be the real bottleneck?
What seems to be working for me (at least for the last week or so) is the following very simple tweak.
CUT TO THE SOLUTION BELOW -- SEARCH FOR ////
Some (not all) of my apps moved to SD (all by Titanium Backup Pro) have begun to disappear and (sometimes) reappear without warning after I began to add and delete large Virtual Machines created in QEMU from my 16GB SanDisc class 10 microSD card on my HTC Droid Incredible running rooted stock Verizon Android Froyo 2.2.3. I know this thread is far from my phone's "home base", but from what I can tell this problem with disappearing apps located on an sdcard is NOT determined by hardware or even Android version.
I also happen to use LauncherPro by Federico Carnales instead of the built-in HTC Sense launcher. I noted elsewhere on XDA that a user had suggested that because at least some (maybe all) launchers start before the SD Card that this may be a problem, especially if changes are made to the sdcard that the launcher did not perform, or was not active during their performance by other apps such as Titanium Backup. That fits my situation, because I unmounted the SD, physically removed it to a PC, and added/deleted large VM files to save (lots) of time. No problems of this sort before I did this, so there must be some connection.
I noted that other users have tried reformatting SD, substituting different brands of SD, using newer/older SD etc. None of these reliably helped. So I skipped these options.
//// The (simple!) solution I tried that SEEMS to work (only time will tell!) is buried in the main Android Settings (accessed from the Menu button while in Home screen). Under "Applications" there is a setting "Fast Boot" that I checked long ago and forgot about (it seemed like a good thing to do at the time). The text warns "Turn off to use some Market apps" (that shows the age of my 2-yr old used phone and Android OS -- ohmygosh!-- because it refers to Market rather than Google Play Store!) Anyway, I unchecked the option and rebooted the phone.
Yes, it took a bit longer to boot (maybe a whole minute!), but after waiting about another minute ALL my home screen apps had normal icons and loaded properly. Titanium Backup Pro batch scenarios confirmed there were no apps in a forced uninstalled state (i.e. I had not done the deed, the system somehow had done it or at least rendered the apps "invisible" to Titanium, which decided they needed reinstallation).
The only odd behaviour was that auto brightness was turned off after I unchecked Fast Boot and rebooted. Going into Android Settings > Display and rechecking "auto brightness" took care of that. No other oddities or strange behaviours thus far (but it has only been about an hour).
I will report anything further on this thread only (Samsung Fascinate > Fascinate Q&A > What just happend? apps on sdcard) if anything else requires reporting. Silence implies success!

(I am copying this post to other relevant threads, but will not post anything further elsewhere -- only there. This is a bit arbitrary (especially now that the chosen thread no longer is the most recent active one on this topic), but I hope this approach pleases the XDA sysops/admins)
