Just bought legend "from vodafone egypt" and it came with arabic rom. The market is missing and it drive my fiancee mad "her bd gift" any way I pulled the market app of my g1 "runnign cm6 rc2" and my question is...
Can I like adb push and adb install on this legend while it's unrooted or not?
Please help

you're probably going to have to root it and install another rom, unless there is a market apk floating around there somewhere.
either way, i expect a root is necessary.

hey,
Same here, I just bought HTC Legend a few hours ago from Vodafone to use the "Market" but I didn't find it. I also grabbed the original Market package from the forum, it's called vending.apk, did you find a way to put it into /system/app ? As every time I try to do so it give me an error message "Cannot paste Vending.apk from clipboard, and when I just tried to install it from the sdcard it don't work correctly, so please let me know if you find a way to insert it into /system/app.
Thanks
Ahmad

Download astro file manager from market.
Download the universal 1-click root app from above and put on sdcard. Put it in the root directory, not in a folder. It makes it easier to find. Then open up astro and find the .apk you just put on sdcard and click on it and then click on install.
If that doesn't work run the 2.27.651.5 RUU from ftp://hero:[email protected]/HTC%20Sprint%20Hero%20MR%202.27.651.6.exe
and then go to unrevoked.com from your phone and download the app and run it.
Also here is the Wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hero_CDMA
Everything you want to know is in there or by doing a search in the CDMA Hero Forum
But, please do a search next time as everybody starts a new thread for the same thing, especially with this same question
They released it in the market but I can't find it. Has anyone had success in it showing up for them? Maybe our device isn't supported? I hope that's not the case cause I would be so bummed.
I tried the market through phone, scanning the barcode on Droid-life and tried the download link and it won't show. when I clicked the "Feedback" link in the e-mail they sent me letting me know it was out, under the device section our phone isn't listed so I think we are being left out in the cold.
edit: they have the download link on the homepage of Android Spin (where I got my copy, it's the same as posted in Post#4 here) and it running great with my setup
edit 2: on Rovio's site for the Android version it says "1.6 or above" but Android Spin pointed out it is only showing up in the market for devices that are officially running 2.2, I guess that's why we don't see it in our market even for those of us running FroYo.
Didn't see it on my market either I'm waiting also!!!

I read froyo only. I'm on 2.1 atm so I will test that but if someones on a froyo build heres the APK
http://www.mediafire.com/?j797r19xtm78g1z
That was listed under a Vibrant thread so I don't know how well it will work. Since theres no official 2.2 for mytouch slide i would think that would be why the problem of not finding it in the market?
I'm not entirely sure where the APK came from or what device it's intended for but i'll post again after testing on 2.1
Works on cm6. Thanks!

Does work on 2.1 app says needs to have 1.6 or higher to work... (Motoblur love haha)
I will say we should keep an eye out for one that works better on lower resolution devices though...
damn this game is a blast!!! just had to push out to the A2SD on the Behold 2 I loaded up with games for my lil girl (7yr old, she calls it her Android Touch) so I could get my Slide back
Works fine on my stock Slide.
I was checking for a while and didn't see it in the market, but eventually it showed up. I just searched "Rovio".
The resolution is slightly off, but it's working well enough. I seem to freeze on some parts however.
Angry Birds Lite is what I searched and I found it no problem. Only complaint with the game so far is that it doesn't have the resolution for our screens.
No such luck, nothing in market and the apk from mediafire wont install. Attempts to install in fails. Sigh i was really hopeing to try this out. Running latest CM6 btw

Ok, might sound 'tarded but...how? Don't you kinda need the SD card location available to download the apk file?
Still can't find it on the market either (for Eugene's CM6 ROM, btw). I've already downloaded it 3 times from mediashare just to see if it was a download error but still won't install correctly.

I used adb. First it failed so I unmounted sdcard and it worked fine.
Code:
adb install -r /path/to/apk/on/computer/blahblahblah.apk

Im not sure why this happens, Im no expert, but there a couple apps that I have on my phone that I couldnt install normally because it would say "application not installed" in the end. What I had to do was push them directly to my /system/app folder and they worked then. But I'm not even sure if you can do that with an unrooted phone. But I figured it was worth mentioning cause I think theres a thread on here that mentions sideloading and not needing root?
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706887
okay, so i just got my nook and i want to root it. Ive rooted my htc aria before without a hitch, but this seems to not be working.
i followed the instructions for auto-nooter, used the right version, did all the youtube/gmail stuff after, but i still cant download from the market.
can anyone give me a hand or suggest something?

It would be helpful if you can provide what version and which guide you followed.

Assuming you checked to see the correct stock version of the Nook--1.1 most likely? And if so, did you use the correct Auto Nooter--3.0 if you did indeed have 1.1?
Is your Google Account linked? (it is, for example, if you are able to receive your gmail). If it is not linked, make sure to sign in to your Google account properly. If you are already signed in, I would install the new Market from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872621
i used the autonooter 3.0 thread as a walkthrough, yes im on 1.1.
ill try to install the new market app, i couldnt ADB earlier though. For some reason it wont let me install the ADB driver for the nook.
ill try again and post here.

For Auto Nooter, I did not have to ADB push the Market/vending app. I simply installed through Root Explorer.
whats root explorer?

i dont have root explorer on my nook. i would need the ADB to install it, which i cant because my nook wont show up in ADB even though it reads as android composite device in device manager.
Ok so I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff I am very sorry but I will need a big walkthrough on this. OK I'll tell you where I'm at. I have a Captivate (ver. 2.1 Eclair) and I want to update to the latest version. I tried getting Keis and Keis Mini but neither of them recognize my device. I have a Mac computer and I installed the drivers for the phone but that did no good Also, I would like to root my phone to get non-market apps you know, but all the flashing and which program to use is very confusing to me. Just reading the forums trying to help myself just makes my head spin. Which do I use? Heimdall or Odin? What is the safest way to backup my phone incase anything goes wrong? I've been trying so hard for months now but I still can't get anything accomplished. I just need someone very experienced to teach me, a person who is almost completely new to all this tinkering and etc. Thank you guys so much!
Can't help with Kies and updating. I've never had a Samsung phone. Sorry.
No need to root to get non-market apps. Go to: Settings > Security > Unknown sources and check 'Allow installation of non-market apps'. However, installing non-market apps can be risky and is NOT recommended.

AT&T does remove that option. It was removed on my X10 too and there is a captivate section with all info.

Yes he is sure. On the early android devices att removed the option. It was later added back on in an update. As stated above. Head over to the captivate section and you will find all your answers. Let me know if you don't and ill help the best I can.

Ok so I just rooted my phone. Not sure how I can tell I did, but I did. Since I have a Mac, many forums are no use to me. Especially when flashing (p.s. I don't even know what that means) I downloaded the latest Heimdall on my Mac, but I have no idea how it works, or how to get ROMS. What do kernals do because I see those are needed? Also, when I rooted my phone, aren't I able to install non-market apps onto my phone? Because I have a .apk file for the Amazon Market app on my internal SD card but it still doesn't allow me to install it.

Purchase these 2 app's from the market. You will first need to set up a Google account and a Google Pay account.
Mobile Odin
and
SuperUser
You need to root the system before installing SU
My only concern is being able to instal non-market apps. How will I complete this using these two apps? Is there a specific ROM I need to download?

No, installing these 2 items will unlock the phone. It will also make it possible to install a rom whenever you want. Superuser access is what allows you to use the app's you are looking for. You need Odin installed to install superuser.
Also, I bought both of the apps. I couldn't get the update for Superuser Elite, and Mobile ODIN doesn't work because it says it can not find the Mobile ODIN package...

did you read the directions on Google Play on how to install? Did you Google/YT using Mobile Odin on Captivate?
While we are all here to help, you need to do some legwork.
What have you learned in searching the I897 forum?

Ok so, I know the best way to be able to install non-market apps is by flashing the rom Cognition, but the download is no where to be found. but before I get the ROM I need Rom Manager right? I got it, but can't use it because I bought it without getting the free version first to get the actual files. Why? because I figured my device isn't rooted. If I were to root the Captivate, I would be able to download the free version. I tried rooting with the One-Click root that I downloaded, which is the only one that I saw on the wiki that actually seemed plausible. It doesn't work. It is supposed to push an update.zip to my SD card and it is there. but when I go into Recovery Mode, the option to choose the Update.zip isn't there. So know I know what I need to do.
1. Find a working rooting program for my mac
2. Get the free version for Rom Manager
3. Find a link and download the Cognition ROM
4. Flash the ROM onto my phone and then I should be able to install APK files from my SD card right?
ugh....

uninstall the apps How to Once un-installed. reboot the phone.
Start again but install the free version first
What you need to do is go to the Captivate section of this forum and install Apex 12.5. It has a one click Heimdall package. Put your phone into download mode by holding down both volume buttons and plugging it into the computer. Follow the instructions and you are now running a custom ROM.

You're having him try something he is not looking for. He is simply trying to root the phone. The package from watsa/psych0phobia is #1- not I897 based and 2- a full rom. He does not want this
Please be careful in your recombination. Also once he has 10 posts he can ask further questions within that section.
@ the OP:
1st of all, why is it SO important to be able to install non-market apps?
2nd, no offense but you don't seem to have the knowledge or skill level you should really have before attempting to root your phone. So...
3rd, do some research & reading. Make sure you fully understand the terminology and procedure for rooting your specifc phone.
4th, have a recovery & rescue plan ready in.case things go wrong. And be willing to accept the consequences.
