Hello All,
I have a HTC hero cdma (cell south) , i cant find a recovery.img in /system . so i cant back it up. i can see a lot of recovery image for htc hero in net. i am not sure which one to use. and i have few basic questions abt the recovery image.
1) what exactly happens when i boot in recovery mode (in my mobile i just see a triangle with ! mark in it , no menu , i tried all buttons in my mobile).
2) what if the mobile didnt accept a custom recovery image, can i restart my mobile again normally.
Thanks in Advance

you have to flash a recovery image on your device are you rooted?
more questions
# what are the contents of recovery.img( will it have a kernal image in it or is it just a copy of ramdisk + recovery)
# does recovery.img depends on the hardware( will it change for different hardware, or can i use the same recovery image for all hardwares)
Thanks in Advance

I have a rooted G1 with CM 4.0.4, as I have been unable to upgrade without cm's new recovery image. But in my pursuit of installing this, I have encountered a new problem. I don't have any recovery image! When I try to boot into recovery, it reboots once after the G1 screen and then goes to a blank screen, where it eventually just turns off. Any ideas on how I can get cm 1.4, or any recovery for that matter? Oh, and I used to have a recovery image (jf 1.43 I think) but I somehow lost it. I then had some weird one that wasn't from a specific developer, and was feature limited. Now I don't have one at all, and really want to get to the newest rom. Please help me!
Have you tried puting the recovrey image on you sd and flashing from terminal
just check cyanogenmod.com website and goto wiki and read on how to install cyanogen's or amon's recovery image
yeah..ill be that guy this time...
wRong section fool I pity you, use Q & A....
I've tried all that, and at least twice or three time each.
If you cannot boot into regular recovery, your best bet would probably be holding camera and power button together (bootloader)... if you can do that then you should be able to use the recovery image (rc 29) you used to root your phone to restore the recovery... It will no longer be rooted after recovery is done but you can always just reroot the phone... hope that this helps
And sorry for posting in the wrong section, I'm not exactly sure where everything is supposed to go yet, and I thought this was the right area. My bad.

any recovery problems can usually be solved by this:
# cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
whereas /sdcard/recovery.img refers to the file you want to use

it's strange that you would refer to them as a bully simply for enforcing rules that no one seems to follow .. everyone has been asked to post general questions to the Q&A and specific questions to the appropriate thread that has already been started

Did you let the HTC recovery image boot all the way . The one you have to install before installing Cyanogen 4.2.5. You should of lost root d/t this. When you try and pull up recovery is there a phone with a "!" ? If so try Atl L or Alt S to see if it pulls up anything.
Also do you have the newest Radio? ( could be the issue also )
I tried to change my fonts with Type Fresh and now my phone won't even start.
It gets stuck at the first Nexus logo(4 color X). My recovery via bootloader-> power+trackball button
also not working. It gets back to the first menu after showing the Nexus X Logo for a split second
(under the option: "Fastboot . Recovery . Clear Storage . Simlock menu", i choose Recovery and press
power button but it goes back to "Bootloader. Reboot . Reboot Bootloader . Power Down" menu after
showing the Nexus X logo for a split second)
Have i bricked my phone ? I am starting to panick here... Help pls !!!
[Additional Info]
Before this problem i was running CM Rc2 with no problems. Rooted with 1-click root program found
here in the forum. Used Rom Manager to flash CM Rc2. I also applied the 720video mod as well and
metamorph my statusbar. The backup files made by Rom Manager prior to flashing CM Rc2 are kept in
my computer and is not in my sd card.

how do i do that ? when i press the Power + Trackball button .. it shows a Red rectangle wid wid FASTBOOT written in it.. i select Bootloader, it shows HBOOT wid a blue rectangle. After that i select Fastboot and it shows back the Red rectangle wid FASTBOOT written in it.. do i have to use the adb command method using Android SDK ?
I havent use it before so i am practically new to it.. I think i need to install Java for it to run as well ...

Intall droidexplorer and see it it will connect to the phone while powered on in any state. If it connects delete a file or 2 from cache and try to reboot it from droudexplorer.

will that program work with my N1 ? and my phone is stuck at the first logo.. it wont boot.. I just have to power up my device and it will detect it ?
i just rechecked DroidExplorer's requirement:
====================================================================
Requirements
* Windows XP or later ( looking for someone to branch UI for mono development )
* .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
* Rooted Android Device w/ Busybox
* Windows USB Drivers (usb-drivers-r2) - will be included in future
o The Droid/Milestone & other Motorola devices require Motorola's USB Drivers, have not yet confirmed
* Enable USB Debugging on device under Settings -> Applications -> Development
====================================================================
I have to have USB debugging enabled.. How do i do that when i cant even start up my phone in the first place ?
Lots of problems lately reported by those who used 1-click root and ROM Manager, and didn't actually know what they're doing, and once something went wrong - they don't know how to get the phone back on track. I'd suggest putting a disclaimer as a sticky in the forum - "1-click root apps and ROM manager are bad for health, if you don't know what you're doing. Go through the guides first, and learn how to flash ROMs on your own!"
So, my suggestion is: go to Nexus Wiki, open "Guides" section, open the section that deals with returning back to stock using PASSIMG.ZIP method, and follow the steps. From there, if it helps you and the phone is restored back to stock, you can do whatever you want. I suggest doing it using the guides in the Wiki (except for rooting itself, perhaps).
the 1-click root worked.. there was not much of a problem rooting it except for the AmonRa or Clockwork not registering at the first time.. my problem came after i try to use the Type Fresh apk.. Here's what i exactly did.. i accidentally click restore default fonts on Type Fresh and it prompt for reboot of my fone..(I havent changed my fonts yet).. Instead i clicked no and i uninstalled the program(stupid thing to do).. Reinstalled it and then changed all the fonts listed in the program to Comforta.tff... Applied it then tried to reboot.. And thats where i am at; STUCK...
I read the amonRa installation guide via Fastboot and it shows that i need to unlock the bootloader.. Well the 1-Click root does not unlock the bootloader but still i could use AmonRa or Clockwork recovery and even install custom roms..
[1.]Do i still need to unlock bootloader to install recovery ? or i was thinking of sending it back to Google for replacement saying my fone won't boot, since it still has a locked bootloader... (will take few months since i am somewhere near China/India)
[2.] Will they even replace/fix my phone since it has custom rom with locked bootloader?
[3.]Can i check if my fastboot is working before i unlock bootloader ?(if that is the only option i have)
[4.]Can a bricked phone do the power button + trackball menu at all ?
i will look into the passimg.zip option as well.. Since my phone is rooted with locked bootloader, will it un-root it ?
[5.]And where is this guide in the wiki ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_One ? (can't find there)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Nexus_One ? (can't find there)
And since anyone can flash custom roms without unlocking bootloader using 1-Click root, Cyanogen's wiki should update this portion, here (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One)
"In order to flash a fully stock Nexus One with any ROM, you must first unlock the bootloader of your Nexus One and install a custom recovery image. If your Nexus One's bootloader is already unlocked, skip this section. "
ok so now i have unlocked my bootloader.. installed AmonRa and successfully installed Cm rc2 again.. tks for the guy who insisted i install my recovery AmonRa via fastboot.. to others.. No thank you.. Damm i hate the Unlocked logo.. Goodbye warranty... !!!
Gosh... I should have spelled even more?
The Nexus One Wiki is a sticky thread on the top of the page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One
If you click Guides and Tutorials, you'll see - 3. Unroot / Restore your Nexus.
There are 2 methods, I've meant the PASSIMG.ZIP one. It would restore the phone to the stock image of your choice, without unlocking your bootloader and without resorting to fastboot, but completely reflashing all the images on the phone.
If not sure, what to do - you should have waited.
Not that there's any harm in having fastboot actually working, though. And the warranty will still be honored, as long as the phone has a physical problem. Plenty of threads about it.

Ok let me tell you if u have the same problem than do as the steps..
i had this problem after googling long time i found this solution ..
1st check ur hboot 0.33 or 0.35??
my hboot is 0.35.0017 and i am on froyo 2.2 stock is FRF91.
just download the PASSIMG for FRF91 from
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...on_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip
after download rename it "PASSIMG.zip" than put it on root of sd card..(formatted by fat32)
now put phone is bootloader mode by pressing vol up + power button
than fastboot verifies passimg file and ask you to flash this rom
now press vol up (yes)
than wait for 5 min to flash this rom on ur nexus one..
reboot and wait for 5min and it and done...
if u still not boot normal than again go to boot mode
select recovery
when u see trangle logo and android than press vol up +power buttong
than recovery menu show up
than wipe user data
and wie user catche
reboot
done..

Have you tried booting into recovery? Power+volume down...
Did you try to boot without the SD card? It helped me once.
Assuming you are running a custom recovery image, go to it via the bootloader menu (Turn phone on while holding volume down, then navigate to recovery using the volume buttons and selecting recovery using the power button). You should then be able to flash the same ROM you currently have installed. If however this is a completely stock device then you could run PASSIMG.zip via the bootloader to save your current install. If you need more info just ask
i cant able to access recovery mode

is that true?
If you can flash a rom use 2.1.1 not 2.1. Assume you are doing that thru fastboot from pc.
Also, try the 3 finger reboot to get to recovery.
Hold down pwr/vol-/trackball at sametime until phone boots into bootloader, then navigate to recovery option. Then wipe all and restore a good bu. If this happened while dl'ing apps, one may be bad. Get all of them off phone and do one at a time.

Ok, understand now.
You may have some options thru fastboot and the pc. Do you have SDK installed on pc. I am not good at that, someone else may have suggestions along those lines. Unless, as I asked, you already have used that method to flash amon ra 2.1.
If you can thru fastbboot with SDK I would still flash amon 2.1.1

I am out of ideas, sorry
Someone will get you going
Sounds like you are using SDK, it may be the way to wipe and get back to an original phone state, then reupgrade. I don't know sdk very well.
Did you try the other idea of trying to get to recovery with sd card out of phone. If you do that you may want to back it up while out of phone if you have a sd card reader
Good Luck and wait for more help

Why does this thread say solved??
Just restore a stock image.
Follow the wiki guide for unroot/restore. Use the passimg method, with the FRG33 zip, which can be found by following the link on the word "here" on step 2...

Where can i find fastboot instructions?
Is my phone totally bricked now? I installed "battery icon mod", cost about 1USD, and now it just keeps on "reflashing" the text "quietlly brilliant", and making that typical sound... I have S-OFF and root on my phone.
My question is, can it be restored somehow? I've tried to run through bootloader and do a factory reset, but that didn't help at all.
Also, is there a way to put a new rom on sdcard and flash it from bootloader, if so, how? I'm a bit newbie, and could use a step for step guide.
If nothing workes, I'll toss it out the window and never ever again buy a new phone stuck with a monthly payment for the next 1½ - 2 years
have you install clockworkmod recovery?
If yes:
0. make sure you have >50% battery
1. download any custom rom
2. go to bootloader and choose recovery
3. install from zip and find the directory of your rom
4. let it flash
Since your phone is bootlooing ... enter the recovery and open the mounts and storage menu assuming you have clockwork mod or 4ext installed ... from here u can mount usb storage to your pc ... i think this is what you want ...
But if you have stock recovery and system ... just run an ruu ...

ensure whatever recovery you are flashing is correctly flashed and then ensure the correct supported ROM.
Also note you should download the rooted version of FRG33 or any custom recovery if your device is rooted.
