http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7382319&postcount=9
I did this to try and fix the lag, and I put the 720kb update.zip for root
Please help me went back to JM2 for the meantime, and the /sdcard is back.. any ideas on what happened? Really want to try the XXJP2 without the lag..
your internal SD somehow got switched to read-only. this happened to me aswell, im still looking for a way to fix it
+1 happened to me aswell now trying the repartition thing
I have an issue with my external sd card, since jp2 I cannot put anything on it, say write protection, no permission....ideas???
The SD card was working when FroYo first started up though..
Might flash to JP2 now and see if it behaves..
/mmt/internal_sd again...
Grr how can some people flash the same firmware and get good/bad resuts!
I downloaded from another mirror, installed JP2 and the internal SD card structure is the same. ffs if this is meant to be the case can someone put us out of our miseries?
Please if someone could check if this is new structure on 2.2 it would just take a minute to check..

I also got the same issue where the external SD card is read only but internal is fine.
I hope someone can fix this.
I can read and write to it, just wanted to confirm the folder structure is diff in froyo for everyone

The external card is not write protected if you connect the phone without the debuging mode on. However i have the same problem with the internal sd and cant install any files in it as aplications doesnt have rights to write to it :/
Reflashed back to JM2 cause cant use almost any app on my phone
Same issue, different phone

Oh, BTW, I can confirm its not a phone thing, swapped out phones and had same problem.

My G1 refuses to boot all the way up. It hangs with a black screen after the initial Android logo.
I can get into the recovery mode (RA v1.3.2) and I have tried a Nandroid restore, but get the message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:/nandroid/
I've also tried to flash a fresh image from a rom on the sdcard, but get a similar message, ie. Can't mount
I'm running Dwang's rom 1.12
I've tried wiping my ext partition (I had to do this when I first flashed this rom, although I don't understand what that does), but no luck.
I seriously, seriously NEED to get this phone back in a working state in the next couple of hours, I'm expecting a really important call. I don't care about my apps or data, I just need the phone/text functions sorted asap.
I can get into the console via recovery - can someone suggest some magic to enable me to nandroid restore or flash?
I am at work, and have no card reader, and no ability to download files or roms or anything.
Can someone PLEASE help me?

I hope my sdcard isn't going bad, I only just shelled out for this class 6 8GB card about 6wks ago :-(
Since I got home last night, I took the card out and got it into a card reader on the computer - Windows XP told me the card was not formatted, and I had to format/repartition before I could reflash a ROM.
Any ideas what might've caused this? The only thing that I can think of is that earlier on yesterday I was swapping videos wit friends via bluetooth, and one of the videos wouldn't play - I don't know whether this could've corrupted my card?

If you had an excessive amount of writes and a poor quality SDcard, that could have contributed but its most likely a defective card if it happened only after 6 weeks. Get a program to fully scan the SDcard to see if it can find bad sectors to make sure that it is indeed the SDcard or some other problem.
So I rooted my brothers g1 a few months ago and everything was great except that it could not connect to pc via usb. I told him not to worry about it but then he wanted to put music on his phone. He was messing around with the phone and he says he formatted something and now he has lost the ability to access the market as well as other apps he downloaded. For the life of him he cannot tell me what he did. So I check the sd card via card reader and I see that signed cyanogen mod (4.2.2.etc) is still there as well as other files. So I have no clue what he did and now the phone won't recognize the sd card even though its loaded and I can't flash him another rom so he can get the market back. Does anyone have a clue on what I should do???? Please help!!!!!!!
also tried other sd cards formatted to fat32 and fat with no luck.
i guess you gotta try a sd adapter, and put the files on there, as for the market app, looks like he needs to reflash the 1.6 firmware, and then reflash cyanogen if its the market apps, and google apps you are referring to.
This is a prime example of why you should never root someone else's phone if they don't know how to do it themselves. With great power comes great idiocy.

He probably formatted the ext partition. You may want to re-partition the card and reboot and see if it will pick everything back up. You may also need to start over.
When done, make a bart backup and tell him never format anything.
Thanks fort the advice guys. I'm gonna try to re partition the card. If I have to start over can I wipe to factory settings and will it return to the original firmware? if so I may do just that. In any case thanks for the input guys , love this forum.
Ok so I wiped the phone and got the market back. All the apps that he downloaded are in the downloaded section so no worries there.
I checked to see if the sd card still had multiple partitions, using a sd reader and paragon partition manager, and it does. The first being FAT32 and the second being linux. I still do not know why the phone won't recognize the sd card or any other for that matter. Any help would be soooooooooo appreciated!
Please help guys so I can get my lil bro off my back! ;P
Oh yeah I tried to re-partition the card with the paragon manager and its not going through. Any other type of manager I can use. I'm on windows7 64bit. This is really frustrating and I wanna get this fixed. Also when I plug the usb cable will recognize the external drive but when I click on it it says please insert drive.
Hi, I bought a 16GB sd card for the phone today and when I got home I loaded some music etc. onto the card via my laptops sd card reader.
I think isntalled it into the phone and everything worked great.
The problem is when I try to access the card via the phone I only have read access.
This is driving me crazy and I don't wanna have to remove the card every time to add to it.
I'm running Modaco's 2.2 Froyo rom.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Unfortunately, this is a bug with JP3 firmware. It annoys me too but I don't think anyone has come up with a fix yet.. :S
You could just flash another firmware, but personally I'm going to wait for the next froyo release. JP3 is quite nice otherwise.
THanks for the quick responce. Its good to know that it isn't me phone that is causing the problem. Hope it gets fixed in the next Rom.
Thanks again.
I have found a partial work around to this, assuming it's the same issue on my Froyo flashed SGS;
If you install Android Manager WiFi on your SGS, and the matching app on your PC you can transfer files to the External SD card. The only problem I've encountered is that you can only shift individual files, or blocks of files, but not nested structures (ie, your music arranged by artists in folders).

Hope that helps a little
Hey all, unfortunately I havent been keeping current backups like i should and after i installed cynogen 7 I think it formatted my external SD card... what is the best tool or way to get my data back? So far ive used Search and recover by iolo for alot of my pictures ( for some reason i have like 1300 but it recovered like 9500. yay awesome duplicates ) and now im using this other tool to get some of the videos back and iolo also got a few zips, but my question is, is that common to happen occasionally? and is there a program specifically targeted for this problem? Like does our phones use the FAT32 format or is it some linux specific format? Thanks
That's why you should remove your external SD card and Sim card before flashing a ROM, weird **** happens sometimes with them in.
As for the FAT32 thing I'm more then pretty sure it is.

So far ive recovered most of my pictures ( like 99%) and most of my videos. found some backups and what not... I'm missing 4 months of videos. Anyone know of any awesome programs that will recover cell phone videos?
Anyone? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Don't mean to resurrect a dead thread or anything, but something similar just happened to me, except it didn't happen during a flash.
I've been running CM7 for a week now, and flashed it with the SD card out, but for some reason today my external card ended up formatted and replaced with 4 files with indecipherable file names and a folder called LOST.DIR, which is empty. I haven't even run CWM recovery in the last couple of days. I guess from my limited research this indicates some corrupted data or something, but it's the first time this has happened. I have no idea. Any thoughts?
Right, I couldn't find this in a search. I'm not sure if I'm posing this in the right place, so feel free to yell at me!
After installing CM10 I have noticed that The permissions for both internal storage and external storage are always set to 'Read only', this may have been occurring before I used this ROM, but I'm not sure. I am unable to delete, rename or move files. This is VERY frustrating! On my PC I can temporarily change the Permissions of my micro SD card, but only when inserted without using the phone. When plugged into my phone it goes back to bring read only.
Please help!
Thanks in advance!

I have a similar issue.
I can not delete or move anything from the internal card. It seems the card can not be set as write.
However, i think the issue is kernel related. I am running on the advanced stock kernel and I was going to flash the stock kernel when i had some time to check. I bet of you do that then the issue will be solved.
Please let me know whick kernel you are on now (I presume the kernel that comes with the cm10 download) and if this solves your problem.
It may also be the solution to the screenshot issue that does not let you take screenshots as it says the memeory s in use....

I guess that makes sense, if that is the case I'll just have to wait for a fix!

I have just flashed stock kernel and still got the same problem.
Very weird. I can delte the foursquare folder and some files in varius folders on my internal sd card, but whenever I try to delete any photos pr the camera folder in DCIM it just comes straight back....
and now those files I thought i had deleted are back....
Backing it up and formatting it next...but for some reason its saying it will take 23 hours to copy the files
EDIT
OK, I have backed up and formatted. Went into settings and deleted all content from internal sd card.
Then tried to forat it in recovery, but it failed. When i rebooted it said the internal sd card was in the wrong format so it gave me the option to format it, I did and now it seems to work. It at least allowed me to take a screenshot and save it.
