Is your phone rooted?
As I do not know what it means I guess no.
Search the forum with the word "tethering".
You can check out PdaNet on the market it doesn't require root
free version dosn't allow https connections, but should work for basic browsing
Pdanet does not work. Can pair but then nothing.
This sucks
Even my f*cking winmo phone could do it...
But thx anyway!
Root, install CM, and get USB and WiFi tethering. Or just wait for 2.2, which will have it too.

Nexus one does require a driver for USB tethering to work (or so i've seen on froyo) (windows update, at least for win7, automatically detects it)

tethering... how?

Hello,
I wanted to know how to tethering using CM5.
I have a htc magic (vodafone 32B) and a laptop with bluethooth.
I turn off my wifi and turn on the bluethooth on my laptop. I sync my phone and my laptop with bluetooth. But it will not let me browse the web on my laptop via 3G.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong.
Yes I turned tethering on in the settings.
Umm. im prety sure the tethering included in cm5 is unly usb meaning you have to plug your phone into your laptop with a usb cable to get internet.

if your version of cm5 doesnt have it you can download Wireless Tethering for root users but it uses WiFi not Bluetooth you can get the file here make sure you set up your phone to install from unknown sources. but i do believe that cm5 comes with Wireless Tethering check your application list

Wired Tethered App?

Anyone have any suggestions for a wired tethered app? I've used PDAnet and Easytether, but both have trials that eventually block secure sites. I use wireless tether but it makes my phone hot as heck...any tips?

have you tried wired tether http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/ I'm assuming you are rooted since you've tried wireless tether. Also the froyo roms have built in wired tether in the settings.
I'm using Froyo v39...what do I need to do to use the wired tether on that?

menu/settings/wireless and network settings/tethering and portable hotspot/ then check the usb tethering while phone is plugged in and it should connect automatically.
Will this work on any computer without having to install anything?

I think that you need a driver installed for windows...not sure exactly cause I use linux and it works without needing anything else. If you already had pdanet installed it probably uses the same driver but not 100% sure about that. Best way to find out is to try it....
from the wired tether link i posted earlier...
This program has been tested with Linux and Microsoft Windows clients. The client needs to support RNDIS. Windows Vista/7 comes with RDNIS-support out of the box. Windows XP requires to download and install a driver. I recommend using the HTC Sync (for the HTC Hero) which contains the required driver. The driver is located under C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\XP_x86 in case it's not automatically installed when plugging in.

I still think the htc sync driver is the same one pdanet and easytether installs so you should be fine.

Just wanted to add my confirmation that HTCSync is all that's needed to install to get the correct driver(s) for wired tethering.

[Q] USB Tethering

Has anybody been able to connect to Internet through USB tethering apps such as EasyTether (Paid version) or PdaNet?
If yes, is your phone rooted? are you getting LTE speeds?
Thanks

Not to sure about usb tether. Wifi tether is working fine on d3rp rom with generic jb/ics wan 0 selected. And yes with 4 g
I've been successfully using Foxfi on my One with bluetooth tethering to both my tablet and my laptop. I assume USB tethering would work too but haven't tried it. You need PDAnet Tablet on an Android tablet, or their Windows client on the laptop, to make it work. I had a connection problem with my laptop that was fixed with a reboot (as advised by PDAnet tech support, who were very responsive).
My phone is NOT rooted.

yeah, i did all that. the pc says that a "a usb device connected to the compyter has malfunctioned" after some reasearch, apparently windows xp does not support tethering it needs some kind of fix. what i need to know is how to do it.
Just buy a 10 dollar wireless USB antenna and tether via wifi

You really should update your OS. If its an old pc, try Xubuntu (lightweight Ubuntu especially for older pc). Just a thought.
