Anyone have any suggestions for a wired tethered app? I've used PDAnet and Easytether, but both have trials that eventually block secure sites. I use wireless tether but it makes my phone hot as heck...any tips?

have you tried wired tether http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/ I'm assuming you are rooted since you've tried wireless tether. Also the froyo roms have built in wired tether in the settings.
I'm using Froyo v39...what do I need to do to use the wired tether on that?

menu/settings/wireless and network settings/tethering and portable hotspot/ then check the usb tethering while phone is plugged in and it should connect automatically.
Will this work on any computer without having to install anything?

I think that you need a driver installed for windows...not sure exactly cause I use linux and it works without needing anything else. If you already had pdanet installed it probably uses the same driver but not 100% sure about that. Best way to find out is to try it....
from the wired tether link i posted earlier...
This program has been tested with Linux and Microsoft Windows clients. The client needs to support RNDIS. Windows Vista/7 comes with RDNIS-support out of the box. Windows XP requires to download and install a driver. I recommend using the HTC Sync (for the HTC Hero) which contains the required driver. The driver is located under C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\XP_x86 in case it's not automatically installed when plugging in.

I still think the htc sync driver is the same one pdanet and easytether installs so you should be fine.

Just wanted to add my confirmation that HTCSync is all that's needed to install to get the correct driver(s) for wired tethering.

I have, I use the Wireless tether app with the bluetooth PAN setup. You need to re-pair your phone with the MBP while the tethering is turned on for it to detect and setup the Bluetooth PAN stuff. I was unable to reliably to get the Wi-Fi setup to work reliably and have found the bluetooth works a treat...
YMMV, hope this helps..!
Works fine with both wifi and bluetooth on my Macbook.
Thanks for your replies. I haven't got mine yet because I just ordered it yesterday and it will still take a few days to get here, but I had tried once with a friend's and couldn't get it working. I'll post back when it arrives.
Anyone had luck with a wired tether? Cyanogen's built in one is apparently Windows only (maybe Linux too, I'm not sure). But I'm on Modaco's r21 now anyways. Tried PDA net too, but it errors out on my OS X client...not sure what went wrong there
You have the pdanet client installed on the computer also right? I know for a fact the built in and wired-tether for root users is only compatible with windows and linux.
I would try to use a virtual machine and bridge the connection, that could work.
Wired tether works flawlessly on linux. I'm sure there's some file in Mac (it's Unix after all) which can be edited to make it detect the nexus as some kind of modem. Any mac expert over here?
Jumping on board hoping for a tethering solution for macs with CM
I use wireless tether and it works flawlessly on my MBP! It is straightforward, you fire up wireless tether on the Nexus and the MBP will see it as a wireless hotspot! Select the Android wireless hotspot on your MBP using your Airport and your off and running. Could not be easier! I am using Enom's Official 1.8.1 rom!
I use PDANet over BT with my MBP and it works fine.

Is the wireless tethering feature included in CM 5.0.6?
I use PdaNet. Its worked with minimal setting. But it's trial version.
You mean tethering apps? If you're rooted either install wireless tethering for root users or flash to 2.2, in which wireless hotspot is built in.
I have wireless tethering and usb tethering app in my rooted 2.1 right now. But for some reason, they are not working.
If you describe how exactly are they "not working" (symptoms etc) - people might be able to help you to get them working. For example, I found out the hard way that Windows XP with my old laptop WiFi drivers wouldn't connect to WEP-protected access point no matter what I did.
i use barnacle, it works for what i use it for
Hello,
I wanted to know how to tethering using CM5.
I have a htc magic (vodafone 32B) and a laptop with bluethooth.
I turn off my wifi and turn on the bluethooth on my laptop. I sync my phone and my laptop with bluetooth. But it will not let me browse the web on my laptop via 3G.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong.
Yes I turned tethering on in the settings.

I tried this and it fails to "Identify" in windows.
I can't seem to get this to work either, I would rather use this than the Internet Connection Mode
Anyone make any progress on this issue yet?
I'm having a similar issue. When I use Wired Tether, some of my applications cannot connect to the internet. My web browsing and e-mail works fine. When I connect via Wireless Tether, everything seems to work correctly. One particular application I'm struggling with is Tradestation. It logs me in fine, but cannot retrieve any market data it just says "loading" forever. However, when I connect to Wireless Tether, it loads instantly. Any ideas? I'm using this with Windows 7 x64 Professional. It installed the NDIS drivers included with the OS by default.
EDIT: I tried connecting with a USB760, and it works fine via dial-up and NDIS settings. No issues. I've also used a UML290 before and had no issues. Seems to be isolated to Wired Tether. Also, I had the same issue with the HTC Incredible.

You really should update your OS. If its an old pc, try Xubuntu (lightweight Ubuntu especially for older pc). Just a thought.
