So I followed Myn's quick and easy steps to download Android, using the "Classic SQSH method". I copied the files into the ROOT of the SD card, but when I run it on my phone the script stops at this:
[ 2.520920] msm_rto msmtro:0 rto Core: registere
When I use other bundles I always get a "Kernel Panic" and the script stops and I have to force shut it down. I have not idea how to fix this and its getting frustrating!
What am I doing wrong? Can you guys help out me out? I'm a total newbie to this kind of thing!
Is your Vogue rom unlocked? if not.. That may be the problem.. I had the same issue a little bit ago.
I unlocked my rom then updated it to the latest stock rom from my carrier which was "6.1"
Sorry if I'm not much help.. =[
ps.. I'm a newbie too but we learn as we go and from the best right? =p

With SQSH method, you don't have to unlocked your phone. it doesn't touch your WinMo system.
unless you want to flash some android ROM replacing WinMo, then you should unlock your phone first.
why don't you try to re-format your SD card into fat32 ( but before - make your backup of your important data on your SD card ).
Then you could try again with android setup.
if you get the same error result, try it with another clean SD card.
Another method that you could try without replacing WinMo with Android is NoMorootfs.

I created this thread cause in the JACHero thread on at least every page everyone asks how to install it, what am I doing wrong, and why is it broken.
So let me give you step by steps of what exactly I have done for me and others to run Hero with out a problem. I will also create a thread with step by step on how to use Ubuntu Linux Live distro to partition your card.
Things you will need to make this work.
Your Brain
G1 Phone
SD Card reader
And the files I included in this thread.
My phone right now is running.
JACHero 2.3
NEW SPL
cyanogens recovery 1.2
8gb class 6sd with Swapper(Swap file on ext2 sd)
setCPU slightly overclock.
Results.
Ever since I did my new Buttons, and the SPL I included in this write up, I have not had one problem flashing any hero rom at all on my phone, nor did I ever have problem actually running hero roms.
So here goes.
First before you partition your card or do anything make sure your card is at least portioned to fat32, don't worry about any other partitions yet.
OK once you do that go ahead and take the radio zip file I am including in this thread and flash it on your phone.
But first make sure you don't already have new radio installed which is 2.22.19.26I THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. To check what radio you have, power off your phone, and power it on while holding the camera button.
If you do have new radio you can continue on to flashing the new SPL.
Flashing your SPL. (PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NEW BUTTONS INSTALLED)
Ok this is where it might get a little tricky, and you might require a SD card reader I know I did and frankly I think this is the best way to do it and I recommend every time you do put a new update on your sd card to update your phone do it through a card reader.
Now after you flash your SPL you might or I should say more then likely will get stuck at the T-Mobile G1 screen, this also might happen after new radio flash in the previous step. If this is the case do not freak out it's normal and your phone is not bricked, but this is why having a sd card reader is important.
Ok so Here is what you do after you have flashed new Radio and SPL(Note:The steps on running Linux live distro and using it to partition your card is coming up). Boot up Live distro of Ubuntu, when its done booting, go ahead and go into the partitioning program while your sd card is hooked up in the computer.
Go ahead and set up two partitions at this time. One EXT3, and of course the other one Fat32. Your ext3 partition doesn't have to be all that big. I actually have mine set up to 512.
Once you are done creating partitions, go ahead and put the latest JACHero on the FAT32 portion and flash away (don't forget to rename to update.zip).
At this point if you follow all of these steps there is no way possible that your phone should not boot right into the system to run the initial setup.
These steps pretty much walk you through steps as if you were starting with a phone that has completly nothing on it.
Also the first boot up after flashing the new ROM, might take a few mins at the HTC screen.
Once your phone loads up and you go through the setup process go ahead and run swapper, it should be an APP that's already pre-installed.
Once you run swapper go into the setting and change the location of your swap file from /sdcard/swapfile.swp to /system/sd/swap.swp
Here is the reason why. The default location is your FAT32 partition. If you all of a sudden mount your phone to the computer with the swap file running on FAT32 you will corrupt your sd card, and then you will have to wipe and reinstall everything.
If you set the location of your swap file on /system/sd/ that's actually your ext2/3 partition and never gets mounted and you never have to turn swapper off.
Well I hope this helps some of you out. I will be writing the walk through on loading up live distro of Linux and partitioning your card sometime today.
I have used this method on a couple different phones and it has worked each time. Also I really recommend installing cyanogens recovery 1.2, as its an excellent way of making a back up of your phone and doing future flashing.
If there is anything anyone thinks that could be done better feel free to post in here.
Remember different people have different ways. I have posted this way cause it has worked for me on my phone and two other phones I setup, and each time there was no hicups.
FILES:
Radio 2_22_19_26I
NEW SPL
CM-Recovery-1.2
Ubuntu Linux Download

I am not responsible for anything that you might have done to your phone by following these directions. Like I mentioned before so far every time I have used this method, I have had nothing but success.

Hey everyone,
I was trying to follow the guide posted after the OP (quoted above), and had a few questions that didn't seem all that clear to me. I've searched all of last night looking for answers.
-What does he mean by "PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NEW BUTTONS INSTALLED", and how do I install them if I must?
-The cyanogen recovery image, is that installed just as any other rom, via update.zip, ALT+S, etc.?
-Lastly, is it really that much better if I get a Class 6 card? I currently have a regular microSD, but am willing to stick with it if the build runs fine, any other reports on this?
I'm currently at a very basic build, JFv1.51 with no other mods. Thanks in advance!
Buttons in the post refers to the Radio. Yes the CM recovery image is installed just like a ROM, alt+s. Yes it is worth it to get a class 6 sd card. I myself don't have one but I know it's worth it. Got to newegg I think you can get one there for under 20$ Hope i helped you!
I’m going to try to keep brief so I don’t lose you. In short, I seem to be locked out of my G1 after root attempt. It won’t read sd cards, and can’t communicate to it through USB. It will run, but normal start up goes directly into 3 pages of T-mobil google setup.
1) Ebay G1, 1.6= donut, worked great but not unlocked so no phone no net.
2) Installed dreaIMG.nbh for root root ala "unlockr’s" method. Followed to a t
3) Try to run update (to cupcake) rom, no go. Rebooted (update) every witch way, battery in and out, formatting & reformatting 4g sd on PC. Try other SD’s, purchase a new 4 gig sd, All I get is the following message:
First:
Android system recovery utility
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/com
mand
Home+back – reboot system now
Alt+l etc,etc
Etc.
Etc.
After executing Alt+S:
Installing from sd card…
Finding update package…
Can’t mount /dev/block/mmblk0
P1 (or /dev/block/mmblk0)
E:Can’t mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
USB hookup shows up on PC as “HTC Android mass storage”. HTC SYC., DroidExploer, ADB and whatever else I’ve played with on the P.C. won't connect.
Please help if you can. I’ve only had this a week, tried to root, and have spent the last 2 days googling around trying to figure it out how to fix it. If I could somehow just get past the T- mobile crap or through the USB I could probably straighten it out.
Regards, PK
What format is the SD Card??
Try reformatting to fat32 full format instead of quick and try again
Also you don't need to upgrade to cupcake to root your phone you can root it from RC29/RC7 which is the build your on after using DREAIMG.nbh
You can either use the flashrec program I believe they show you in the unlckr video
Or
You can follow the guide on Cyanogen's Wiki
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...eam_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod#Rooting_the_phone
Depending on which ROM you plan on using you can either follow the whole guide to use Cyanogen or you can just follow the steps through getting your own recovery image and then you can flash another ROM at that point if you're going with a diffrent ROM
Thanks much for the reply.
SD: All 3 of the SD cards I've been using are fat32. One is a brand new virgin. One, I reformatted fat32 many, many times. (The only question is, within "format fat32", there are many "allocation unit size", settings possible from 32 kb to 1024 bytes). Make a diff?
CUPCAKE not needed: Yes, I sort of reached that conclusion (after about 8 hours of study), and you confirmed, that I could flash things other than cupcake. Indeed tried many including Cyanogen Ithink.
The CRUX:It's just my G1 SD drive won't read anything. I would love to start over. Intuitively, compared to all the other rooting methods, this seemed to easy. If I could just get in past TMobile stuff, I'm sure there are switches to flick to solve prob.
Little more info: It was after "successfully" flashing dreaimg that I was locked out. In addition to the getting into (but not out of...can't finish cause I can't connect) of the Mobile setup screens, "menu" button puts me in to "change APNs (wonder if I should, to ATT). Also, replacing inactive T-mobile SIMM with ATT puts me in an ATT screen too enter code. Wonder if I should by one.
BTW: Any recomendations for reputable, fast &, resonable T-Mobil unlockers.. any one?
Thanks again,
PK
P.S. Format: Actually I was doing a full format about every other tim (I was trying lots of different stuff),
i wanted to know if you can install dreaimg.nbh through android sdk without using the sd card? i want to know this because i cant use my sd card at all and all of a sudden ive been getting force closes for every single action i make on the phone (main one i get is process com.android.inputmethod.latin and i cant text or go to my contacts. in short it force closes everything). i want to bring it back to factory and was thinking that might fix my sd problem. so please help, im getting annoyed with this and i dont want to go back and use my crappy samsung mysthic.

does anyone know how to plz i have the same problem wit the sd card reader i wipped my phone and its not allowing me to flash anything from the zip card and its ot the card its the reader so does anyone know how to fix??
First, both of you need to rule out SD card falilure/user error. Does your card work in your computer? Can you format it to FAT32? If you can and your phones can't see it or any other cards.... you might as well get a new phone. As far as LatinIME FCs, go download any VK from the market or install HTC IME (which is way nicer anyway), go into settings-locale&text and uncheck stock VK, check whatever new VK of your choice is. That will stop FCs

but is their no way that i can install a rom or anything thru adb or sumthing cuz like my phone doesnt have any rom on it right now so yeaa i havent used my g1 in like maybe 2 weeks=( so like i just wana load a rom and be able 2 use my phone i really dont care for da sdcard
If your SD card is broken, get a new one.
How can you logically expect to use the phone without one? I'm aware you CAN, but I mean there are so few ROM's out there that don't use A2SD, let alone you can't make nandroid backups, and some apps can't store data. Maybe I missed something, but is there a reason you can't just use a different SD card? You can buy an 8gb class 6 MicroSD for under $20. If you can afford the $200-500 phone....

It is possible if you unpack the update.zip and manually copy everything over to the right place, then flash the boot.img with fastboot.
Surely it's simpler to just buy a cheap card though? Without a2sd your choice of what to flash is going to be severely limited.
the sd slot does not work at all. i have 2 sd cards a 1gig and a 4 gig(class6), the problem is the rom is acting up and i cant correct the phone without reverting back to stock, but in order to do that i need the sd card slot to be working. thats why i want to know if you can push the file to the phones ram and try booting it from there or even do it from the computer. and i also wanted to see if bringing the phone back to stock would probably fix the sd slot. so if someone has an idea im open to trying it out
Im looking for some advice/input. Im going to start running android on my HTC touch (Bell). What is the best Android rom to use? Are there many issues?

You will be happy you did...
Thanks for the response. Im actually looking at this now. I cant see any install instructions and not sure exactly what files to grab. Will it work with these steps:
Easiest Step-By-Step Android Tutorial for the Vogue (NAND Method/Internal Memory) thread?
Does it matter if I run it off the miniSD vs fully flashing my phone?

That is a great thread to start at, it's where I first learned.
I've found that Android runs smoother while being run from the phone, not the sd card.
Those instructions should work. I have not really used them since Myn's Donut (older ROM). I dont see why not the process should be the same. I ran off SD for a while during donut days, things were slower. Running off NAND now and its a really nice experience.
It must just be me, but I haven't been able to get camera working on any Android builds. I am thinking my Sd card gets unmounted or something. Camera app starts, I can see display, then Force Closes.
I am running off sd card, I even tried partitioning cards, seems as though one of the ext2 partitions goes bad or something. If I place card in computer, one of the partitions is always corrupt?
I have re-formatted and re-partitioned 3 different cards using Gparted, always same error after installing Android system to Sd and Data to SD in install menu.
I apologize if this isn't clear, trying to explain it as best I can
WoW!
I just finished the install. Now working with Google sync to get my contacts over. I love it already and havent even done much! I may eventually install on the phone. Are the steps any different? Is there a thread to get setup?
Thanks for all the responses.
Go with Incubus26Jc's Super Froyo build on NAND I've been using for a month now and its been awesome hardly any problems
New G1 owner. Purchased this:

No clue what it's running for Recovery though but I'm assuming the CM6 rom comes with one? I'm waiting for a response from the seller.
Now I want to buy a new 32GB Class 6 SDHC card for use with this particular phone. But I've noticed that partitioning the card is an important step during the installation of said ROM? How would I go about partitioning this new card without bricking my phone? I don't need any of the files off the new card since the seller mentioned that he had cleared it. What should I partition the card too? I've heard anywhere from 512MB to 1.5GB?
What are some applications that I should be aware of for this particular ROM? I'm very new to all of this and want to keep the phone running decently well. I've heard something about an application with the ability to run apps off the SD card to preserve memory? Would installing such a program be simple for someone as noobish as me? Or should I keep it simple and just install everything onto the phone?
Ok. Well first off you have a lot of reading to do. Hope you like to read. I can tell you that partitioning your sdcard is done through recovery mode. You need to get in there first. Also cm6 is a rom. It does not come with a recovery. That is totally different. It would be good to know what version you have. I assume amon ra 1.7.0 but it will tell you on the recovery screen. What values you set it to are up to you but you can just leave the values alone when your doing it and it will give you a starting point. The rom will tell you how to save your apps 2 sd. You have to read the first post to find that info out. Good luck and welcome to xda
