Little noob help please ;) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Firstly thanks for the firmwares and the clear tuts on how to use them.
I followed this guide on flashing: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
Odin says pass and all threads completed. My phone powered down but did not reboot. I pressed the power button but it didn't boot.
Any advice appreciated. Please translate into 2yearoldish

Try to take the battery out and then put it back in and see what happens.
If it boots normally then ur ok, but if it won't boot, then put it to download mode and flash it again.

Thanks. It wouldn't reboot so i put it into download again and ran odin. At the point where odin says reset, the phone seems to power down. When Odin says pass, the phone has not restarted and will not power up except in download mode.

ok It has just booted.
I had the samsung-firmware.webs.com tut open also and that only says to add one of the tars so i re read the xda one and added the correct files.
Thanks and feel free anyone to delete this thread

where's the "wiki"?
And what if I dun hv the 3 button recovery mode?
Merged duplicate threads.
mowilfred, the wiki is found at the link with the same name, at the top of every page on the site here.
At the top of this forum section, you will also find a sticky thread titled "STOP!! Before you post read this NOW!!". Please read that, for guidelines on proper searching and thread placement.
I can't boot up the phone in either recovery mode or download mode, using the 3 button boot up thingy. Is there any other way around?

1. Get into Download Mode (WITH THE PHONE PLUGGED IN) by following the steps below
*Turn off the phone until you get to the charging battery screen (keep in mind, your phone is currently PLUGGED IN)
*Press volume up and down, and power all at once.
*As soon as the screen turns black, release your power button.
2. Unplug phone from USB
3. Open Odin (in Administrator if you're running W7 or Vista), try one of the ones I attached to this post, at least one of them is bound to work, some don't work for me, but works for others, some doesn't work for others, but works for me, whatever floats your boat
4. Load in the files into Odin that you have downloaded from above Just load in the files corresponding to the text field.
DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION.
5. Plug in your phone with the DL mode
6. Click start and wait for the magic
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NO-BOOT PHONES
This is where your phone does NOT turn on, no combo of buttons works and power button does nothing.
DO THIS ONLY WHEN YOU PLUG IN YOUR PHONE AND NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE SCREEN!!! If else, follow the steps from above.
This method is basically same as above, EXCEPT the way you get into Download Mode as your phone is HARD BROKEN.
1. Download all the files required in the "BOOT CYCLE" section of this post.
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
8. Follow steps 4-8 from the "BOOT CYCLE" section.
Troubleshooting:
-Odin stuck at some random process?
*Switch to another odin
*Make sure you did NOT check repartition, if you did, just repeat all the steps over again, except for the downloading parts, obviously.
-Phone not responsive?
*Try "NO-BOOT PHONES"section of this guide
-Phone stuck at Galaxy S logo screen?
*Put it in to DL mode, and run Odin again, it's just a bad install.
-All three ODIN is nonfunctional, stuck or giving "FAILED" errors?
*DO NOT CLOSE ODIN ONCE IT HAS FAILED!
*Unplug your phone
*Replug in your phone, get it into DL mode
* Unplug once it is in DL mode
*Replug and ODIN should recognize your phone
*Leave all the settings the same, then click "Start" again.
-Cannot get into download mode using the method I listed? Use the method(s) below:
Soldering Method
More methods coming soon

Nice Guide! One thing I noticed is that the color is overdone and instead of helping with reading it has the opposite effect. Made everything look semi-messy and crowded.
good guide..
one question though, the PIT file is the one for the Tmobile JFD file. would that affect any unlocked vibrant? I mean, would it lock the phone back to Tmo??
thanks for sharing,
Cheers
I thought there's no fix to a phone which is really BRICKED? oh well, everything's possible at this time.
Please be more descriptive in your terms of "brick(ed)". The term bricked is meant that your phone isb rendered COMPLETELY & UTTERLY USELESS, FOREVER! The phone will never get used again... Hence.... Brick!?
I like the guide just think it would better off with more descriptive details of what caused the phone to boot loop or not boot.
Ok let me fix up the terms when I get home. I don't think you can ever make the vibrant utterly useless haha. Android phones are nearly impossible to brick

Is there a fix for the brick where the phone does not turn on at all amd does not even respond to the usb in the phone like for example plugging in the phone a wall charger and not even a grey battery or a little circle symbol?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yeah, read the info under the "HARD BRICK" section Good luck, it should work as that also happened to me, I had it fixed with the method I listed up there.
If you need help or some questions answered during the process, I'll be online for another hour or so, or just PM me

Now off to find the soldering guide x]
what do you do when you use odin and it STILL boots back to the samsung screen??
If the black screen doesn't change after like 15 minutes, then just do the whole process all over again. It could just mean a bad install
Even programs messes up sometimes
Goodluck!
Remember, please post your results so I can see how I can improve this guide!
So, i think i have actualy made a brick. I was running macnut r12/a13 kernal for about a week and had some issues with the overclock so i figured i would just flash aver itself as that has fixed a few issues in the past. booted into clockwork, flashed the rom, no worries. Hit reboot system and it hung at the vibrant/i9k boot screen. At this point i was still not worried. Here is where it gets fun. My Phone will now not boot into recovery, i have been trying now for about 4 hours. I can boot into download mode, but i can not get odin to see my phone. On the same PC, odin sees other vibrants, just not mine. If i turn on the phone it just boot loops at the vibrant/i9k screen. My pc makes the usb plug/unplug noise as it boot loops turning on and off with the vibrant/i9k screen telling me that the drivers could not be installed. If i plug my gf's vibrant in, i have no issues and odin gives me a com port. Any suggestions?
THANKS dude only if if you posted this before when my vibrant was soft bricked... I sent it back I didn't know what to do hehe!
Also a question... if I do this.. will it remove root and everything also does my phone HAVE to be soft/hard bricked to use these methods because I might want to just use the soft brick Odin thing when I want to get back to normal without being soft bricked...

@ Adam, have you tried installing the drivers manually? If not, then I don't know what to say =/ But I'm SURE people around here can offer some help
@Rider, You're welcome, and yes it does remove everything, and yes it does work even when you're not stuck in bootloops

thanks for your reply
If odin recognizes one vibrant( the working one, my gf's) and not the other(my bootlooping) do you still think its a driver issue.
Macnut is a amalgam of almost all the galaxy s's. when my phone booted it would startsaying vibrant, then flash i9k. i did install kies thinking it would have some drivers for the i9k. I will try monkeying with the drivers a bit and let you know.

Help help help

I did an Odin wipe and now the touch isnt working on my phone!! What do I DO!? Its stock so it goes straight to MTP transfer instead of debugging and I cant change it. PLEASE HELP.
What do you mean the touch? Give more details
Alright, well I was having problems with dig11fs rom so I decided I wanted to install serendepity 5.0. I plug in my phone, run odin and go into download mode. Once in download mode I press start and it goes through and does the factory reset of my phone. My phone turns on and the "swipe screen to unlock" screen comes up. I try to swipe it and nothing. I try going back to download mode and maybe running odin again. Not working. I try different things but overall my touch screen isnt working at all. I went to recovery and deleted user and cache thinking maybe something will work. Phone boots back up and still nothing. I can't do anything cuz I cant get to usb debugging without being able to use the touchscreen.
I just did a master clear with odin and still my touch screen isnt responding! The buttons are working fine but the touch screen is not.
This is a new one.
Pull battery or for a couple minutes. Then try again
what is the build of your phone, located under battery, something like 1008
I think you are in store for a jig
It says 10.08 on the white sticker under my battery.
Have you used odin before, what its the name of the odin file you used?
I have used odin a few times before. Not a problem. I tried the battery pull, nothing.
I used the newest odin "I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0.zip" I just downloaded it about an hour ago.
Good news is that you are on stock, so if need be call at&t and file warranty claim. You said matter clear went through correct/
Have you had problems with three button combo in the past?
Do you know what a jig is?
I can get to download mode no problem with the 3 button method. Thats not the problem and I have ideas of what a jig is but if it can help me right at this moment i would appreciate the information.
You can still.get into dl mode?
Have you tried odin flash more then once

A jig wont help, if you can get to download mode you don't need a jig. this sounds like a bad flash, try flashing stock again.
Yes I can get into dl mode and I tried twice so far.
I actually have a charger in my house that will disable the touch screen. I once made the mistake of trying to flash using CWM while my phone was plugged up to that charger and when everything booted back up my touch screen was disabled completely. I was able to Odin back to stock and reflash everything.

Go find the post for the Stock rom with the 3 button fix and the ODIN that is not one click and use that. the one click downloader does strange things sometimes. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THAT POST COMPLETELY BEFORE FLASHING.
This one.
1. Download ODIN and the PIT file and extract it somewhere.
2. Download the PDA file and put it in the directory where you extracted ODIN and PIT to.
3. open ODIN and click the PIT button and choose the PIT file that came with it.
4. click on the PDA Button and choose the PDA.tar that you downloaded from the post.
5. power off your phone completely.
6.Hold down vol up and vol down and plug in the cable.
7. Click start.
So i tried using a different charger, nothing. I'm trying to run the not one click odin.

My problem is actually a bit worse. Well, maybe. I'm stuck in the, "phone ! pc" loop. For other phones, you can just remove the battery, and then press the three buttons, but for the tab, since the battery can't be removed, I have no idea how to fix it.
You can try this, though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360
Here's another thread that may help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
1. Go to http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm and download the firmware for your device. (you must register first)
2 download the flashing guide and make sure you follow all the steps (without the part to remove the battery) http://www.samfirmware.com/SVC Android/P1000 Flashguide.pdf

*click repartition
*click pit then select the file u downloaded
*then click start then that's it just wait for it to pass then it'll now boot
the phone ! pc icon is also download mode so u wont have to do the download mode just connect it to you computer and make sure odin detects your tab
hope it will work for you sorry for the bad instruction
Tried your solution didnt work
Mine didn't work with Odin too. It worked with Heimdall instead.
1. First, I downloaded ROTO JMI from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360
2. Press the power + volume down button. It'll still have the phone ! PC icon, but it will already trigger itself to go to download mode.
3. Unzip and then extract the tar from the ROTO JMI.
4. Using heimdall, put everything inside the extracted file to its appropriate filed. You won't need the moveend.
5. Flash. Do NOT remove your tab.
6. It'll auto-reboot
Very busy at the moment, really appreciate your help will try your solution later and post results

When you unzip a compressed file, you will see a number of files inside like cahce, factory data, etc. Just put them in the corresponding field in Heimdall. As for the zImage file, put it under the image field.
Edit: @andrew - mine was in the logo for like 5 minutes. Even up to now it still takes around the same time to boot.

Need help urgently

My wife was gonna install the latest update (Lollipop) today and her phone was encrypted and so she decrypted it to prepare it for installation. At 85% the phone said that it failed and that she had to do a factory reset and so she did but now it seems the bootloader or something messed up. I've tried flashing it with Odin and with the PIT file but with no success. I could really use some help here buddies...
I attached some pictures of what I see when I try to flash it in Odin and what it looks like in recovery.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You tried flashing the boot loader thru Odin am I right? Did you try flashing the whole Firmware thru Odin? Did you put the phone on Download mode? Remember to take the battery out then boot to download mode by pressing and holding volume down+home+power button for about 3 seconds then let them go, phone will boot into Download mode, the connect your phone to pc, then Open Odin, make sure the Odin :COM is on light blue meaning they are both communicating, then go to www.sammobile.com and download the latest firmware for your device model, and follow the instructions, it have to work, but your phone will be restored to factory, good luck, cheers:fingers-crossed:

Kies doesn't register it... it just says connecting. I tried to kies 3 and 2.6 just to make sure.
It sounds like the issue is with your USB cable maybe try a different USB port preferred in the back of the system not one upfront. Make sure you have mock locations and USB debugging on. The only reason keys wouldn't detect your device is if the drivers are incorrect
There's a feature "Reactivation Lock" in security settings. Make sure it is unchecked. It is a security feature to prevent anyone from changing your system Rom.
