[Q] Fixing Wi-fi without reformatting?

Hey, in the last few weeks I've run into a very annoying bug on my phone. Wi-fi turns itself off after about 2 minutes. It doesn't actually "turn itself off" in the phone - and by that I mean that the wifi icon is still there, and I can see the signal strength, but the internet won't work.
In order to fix it, I have to turn the wifi off and then on again.
I've tried using the Wifi Fixer application, but it doesn't help. It can't seem to detect when I lose my internet connection.
I've also troubleshooted it, checking that it occurs on different routers/types of networks.
I'm sure it's a problem with my phone, but I dont really want to reformat my phone until Froyo comes (since I don't want to have to install all my apps twice).
Is there any solution to this? ;z
I'm on stock rom, JF3, with OCLF.

I have the same problem with my phone. My Wi-Fi at home works just fine, but when I go to my brother's house, I seem to occasionally lose internet connection even though it shows that it's still connected to the Wi-Fi. I have stock Bell ROM with OCLF by RyanZA. Oh, and to fix it I simply turn Wi-Fi off, and then on, and it starts working again.

[Q] Are there any apps which can enable data roaming?

Hi everyone.
I noticed a very strange behaviour of my I9000 (2.2.1, JPY) the last weeks.
I am travelling a lot between Austria (Home country) and Germany. Usually i just untick "enable data roaming" as it is very expensive but leave data enabled.
From time to time, i use an adhoc connection to my laptop to update apps, synchronize with exchange to get the latest appointments, contacts, etc.
Now, in the last weeks i noticed, that all of a sudden (after the adhoc connection was terminated and the phone was idleing), there was a data connection. I am completely sure, that I DON'T enabled data roaming. Therefore there have to be anything else on my phone which enables this setting.
Is there any issue, that i missed - on the other hand, is there any way to examine this (Log or other sort of history) ? I know, I guess the easiest way would be to disable data completely in foreign countries, but this autoenabling of data roaming worries me...
Please, if anyone knows anything, please give me a hint, as it starts to get very expensive...

Update: i maybe have two suspects:
1. Background data (this was enabled when i last checked - maybe enable this (via E-Mail.app e.g.) enables data roaming too?
2. Auto update in market - i remembered that i ticked certain apps to auto update... maybe this is an issue...

[Q] Can i setup my T-mobile Galaxy Tab to use wifi only?

Im trying to make my tab use wifi only becuase i don't have t-mobile service anymore. Is there anyway to get it to stop saying "searching" all the time? I have factory reset my tab but unlike other devices, there is no initial setup so i can choose WIFI only. Anyone have any ideas?

then turn off the radio.
(also popped the sim out as I was getting occasional SIM Detached messages and reboots, so figured it was simpler to just take the SIM out and turn off the radio)

Go into Airplane mode, and then turn on the wifi.
Thats what I do. It uses less battery.
Also deactiveate "Data network mode"

Me too, same as above, but then bluetooth headsets, printers, and keyboards won't work.

I disconnect my data plan and using tab as phone. join wifi at work and home and enjoy phone and tab same time lol.

Just flash overcome! Then follow simple instructions to turn off radio.. I its really simple.
Edit:
(copy/pasted directly from Overcome tweaks guide)
"Turning the 3G-based Tab into a "Wi-Fi only" device (Disabling the GSM Radio!)
To disable the GSM Radio:
- Bring up your Phone/Dialer program
- Enter: *#*#4636#*#*
- Select Device Information
- Scroll to the bottom
- Tap the "Turn Off Radio"
This will disable all Cell/GSM/EDGE connections – should only be used for those who do not subscribe to a data/cell package. This will leave Bluetooth/Wi-Fi (I think) on so you can still connect Bluetooth devices etc., as opposed to switching to Airplane mode which turns everything off! "

You can turn off the radio, use wifi and I believe it allows you to use bluetooth as well.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I wanted to offer an alternative solution for anybody still trying to find a persistent solution to creating a Wifi only Galaxy Tab. I use Llama to set up a start up event that turns Airplane mode on, waits 1 minute, and enables Wifi. It has worked well for me for the past several months. Here's the run down of my Llama configuration:
Event Name > Start Up
Conditions -
Phone reboot > After start up
Actions -
Toggle Airplane Mode > Airplane Mode On
Queue Another Event >
Event Name > WiFi On
Event delay > 1 minute
Actions -
Toggle WiFi > WiFi On
I hope this helps someone out.

Help with my data connection please experts

Hi All - I am a UK Orange user and I have searched all over the place for a resolution to my problem
This morning I turned off the dormancy mode to see if it would help me at all in getting better network speeds and it appears that doing this process has caused my data connection to turn off.
When i look in the options I can enable the data connection but I never get the icon at the top nor do i actually have the ability to send or receive any data from my phone
To resolve the problem I have flashed my phone with the latest RevoHD rom - this has not worked
Flashed the latest Siyah Kernal - this has not worked
Re-Enabled fast dormancy - this has not worked
Checked my APN settings and they all appear fine
When i try to search for a network provider I get the following error - Unable to change networks during data service activated. do you want to disconnect the data service and change available network
When i press OK the changes appear to be made I dont appear to have any data connection
Please can someone help me out in this situation as its starting to concern me

My XT860 weird sudden WiFi issue

Hello everyone, I know I am totally new to the forum but I assure you that before I wrote this, & before I even joined, I’ve been digging into all WiFi-related problems.
Before I post in this great forum I want to say that I owe all the developers here a BIG thanks, not only for development effort, but also for all help and guidance, it is you guys what make this forum and android community amazing! THANK YOU GUYS !!
The post might look long but I thought describing the issue in one brief post would be better in avoiding doing so in the form of many 2-line posts scattered through a 10-page thread.
Although my WiFi issue seems to me more like a hardware malfunction issue, it seems it’s one of its own where some indicators make me doubt it could be related to software too.
Here what the problem is about:
While I was messaging on WhatsApp, my phone suddenly disconnected from home WiFi & wasn’t able to reconnect anymore at all.
I now can only scan for wireless networks; here is how the problem takes place:
- As soon as I connect to a WiFi network, either it being secured or non-secured, the procedure gets stuck for 10-20 seconds at “Obtaining IP address from (Network ABC)”
- WiFi stays on but then shows “disconnected” or “Unsuccessful”, & (Network ABC) disappears from available networks list (unknown networks doesn’t)
- (Network ABC) reappears –> Device tries connecting to it –> Hangs in obtaining IP –> WiFi turns off
- I turn it on –> Device tries connecting to (Network ABC) –> Fails the same way –> WiFi turns off
- I turn it on –> Hangs completely in “Turning On…”, can’t disable or enable or anything, & got to reboot or battery would drain like crazy!
Things I tried (with no good):
- Resetting my WiFi router (other devices can connect to it)
- Connecting to other private & public routers that other devices normally connect to
- Fix WiFi using market applications: FXR WiFi fix and rescue, and Fix My WiFi
- Wiping cache & Wiping/Factory reset using the built in recovery on device
- Restoring a non-safe system recovery img that was created before the problem started
- Using RSDLite to flash the XT860 5.5.1-112 sbf available at sbf.droid-developers.org
- Safestrap: Wiped cache & dalvik cache, Formatted /system, then Wiped/Factory reset
- Connecting WiFi while on other ROMs (in safe system): CM9, MAVROM 4.5, DarkDroid 1.1, & the rooted deodexed 2.3.6 Motoblur.
Other info & symptoms that may help:
- Mobile hotspot not working in the manner of WiFi: As soon as my laptop or another device tries connecting to my XT860 mobile hotspot, the hotspot disappears from network list on my laptop
- The problem started during my first WiFi usage after the enabling of APN mobile network data
- When I switched on WiFi while Mobile Data was enabled, phone showed a successful connection to my home WiFi ! But stayed for a minute or two, then disconnected, then mobile data would hang & wouldn’t get disabled without a reboot
- WhatsApp chooses random tones when a message is received, even after the many flashes I did (this might sound geeky to mention lol, but it all actually started when I was using WhatsApp, which works using radio)
- GSM network and Bluetooth are working fine
So what do you guys think? What is the chance of it being about the drivers or something?
Or is it totally a hardware defect that grants me a replacement especially that it started while on stock?

Given it survived an rsdlite flash I would lean towards hardware. I know people have had issues with rsdlite not flashing properly, you could confirm by using moto-fastboot to flash the device manually. It's a command line utility, I'm not sure how comfortable you are using terminal commands

Thanks, I'll try the moto-fasboot way..
But what if it is really a hardware defect? I once read that rooting voids warranty, I mean with all what I've tried to solve this, would Motorola still provide a replacement?

Fastboot flashing removes the signs of rooting. Same as RSDLite. It's what they would do for a software issue, it pushes the factory software image.
Lots of people in this forum have gotten replacements after having rooted.
