I'm trying to root my phone based on the latest 2.1 instructions, but no luck. Does anyone have experience or info for rooting S/N: 2.39.591? This is an HTC Hero 2.1 (says Firmware version 2.1 - update1).
I've gotten as far as unpacking "unrevoked" but the SuperUser icon never installs.
Thanks!
I would first recommend getting all of the settings from your phone. I'm not sure if ##DATA# in the dialer will work or not, but if it does you will want to use the view mode. I think everything is in there. And you would also need your msl number which can be obtained this way
You might look at this post. I don't know if it will help, but on page 3 near the bottom is the start of how to root the alltell phones
Other than that I'm not sure.
Thanks for the info...but what would I do with the MSL Code. I was able to retrieve it.
I have the same phone - HTC Hero CDMA (CredoMobile - runs on the Sprint Network) and I want to root it so that I can use tethering. Here's the info:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
SW Number: 2.39.591.1
Kernel v: 2.6.29-bc0d2cff
I've tried the methods below with no success:
[GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero
Installing unrevoked.apk
Installing rooter.apk
ASRoot2 Method
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Try the guide for non-Sprint Hero units.. In this situation, Sprint is an MVNO and doesn't actually provide phones for Credo.

Basically just download the Android SDK and put all the files from "cdma-hero-root.rar" in the "tools" folder
I haven't had much luck on my Credo phone. I was able to install SU.apk, but aside from that...nothing. It's almost like the phone was opened up and then closed.
If anything, I'd like to just restore it, but no luck since the ROM on the Credo Hero is unavailable.
Direction for rooting a CREDO HTC Hero
I found this other conversation on here. I followed the directions, and they worked perfectly!

Scroll down to the post by ngholson from Sep 29, 2010 for the full set of instructions.
Yay to rooting and updating CREDO phones!
Thanks to ngholson.

I have an unlocked, rooted, Rogers Dream I bought from a friend who had flashed it with the G1 T-Mobile firmware. It's using the EBI0 radio and firmware 1.5 and no Rogers Mandatory Update(he stopped using this phone prior to the lockdown). I am using it on the Telus network so I've no worries about the update either.
It's slow as sin and buggy as two hells. I was told cyano runs a heck of a lot smoother.
However, I've never flashed an android phone yet and I don't quite want to brick this one though experimentation. Much of the guides I was able to find seem to be how to flash cyano on a stock Rogers or a stock G1 and I'm not sure which one I should follow as the guides on the cyano site said the hardware may be a tad different on each. I've done at least 1 hour of searching on this forum prior to posting but I apologize if I missed something as I know it can be annoying when the "new guy" asks something 50 people ahead of him asked before.
I was hoping to get some advice on what's the best way to upgrade to cyano from 1.5 on this phone would be, considering I'm a newb and all.

I saw that guide, but is it safe to use it on a Rogers phone using the G1 firmware?
Also turns out the firmware may not be stock G1, though it's definitely branded T-Mobile G1 on the firmware(Rogers on the splash screen)
Model Number
T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version
1.5
Baseband Version
62.50s.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version
2.6.27-TheOfficial-00399-gc7f8bce
[email protected] )
Build Number
killa-user 1.5 CRC1 150275 ota-rel-keys,release-keys
The funny naming(killa-user? @abomb?) are what's throwing me off.
I guess what I want to know is if it's still safe to following the instructions on that wiki page.
Also, since it's already rooted, if I should just start from the step marked "Cyanogen Recovery Image".
And finally, do I still need to install the 2.22.19.26i radio update from those steps if my radio is listed as 2.22.19.26I?
Acck, here I go spamming my own thread...
I found this link one one thread:
ech tee tee pee colon slash slash wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs
Would these be the preferred steps given the info I pasted?
Update:
I followed those instructions. Turns out the phone already had Cyano Recovery 1.4
I did a nandroid backup first and proceeded to do a wipe and install all 3 zip files(signed-dream....ota-14721.zip, update-cm-4.2.14.1-signed.zip and bc-4.2.14.1-ebi1-signed.zip, in that order )
Everything went according to those instructions but on the final reboot(after it rebooted once already to recover mode), it hung at the Rogers logo for 25 mins. I turned it off by yanking the battery. I did a nandroid restore to try it again(as they suggested if it hung on the T-Mobile logo) but it just hung there again for over 30 mins until I yanked the battery again.
The restore at least gets me back to my 1.5 so I'm not phoneless(whew!). Any ideas why the update won't work?
Well, my impatience definitely got me doing experimentation instead, but alas, I got it working
Turns out it was that last zip(the radio kernal) that was breaking. I installed only the first two and, voila, it works
And it's soooooo much faster now!
I hope this at least ends up helping someone else with this issue
Hi,
Well last night i got a Rogers HTC dream (proud owner of an android phone)
After trying to use CM Updater, i managed to softbrick my phone. I used the dreamimg.nbh to restore the phone but it was a T Mobile one. Now evreytime i boot up i see T-Mobile. Its a Rogers HTC Dream but its running on T Mobile Firmware. Is this a problem after unlocking the phone(meaning will it destroy the unlock) and will i have any problems? I was wondering if this would be a problem. What guide should i use to root my HTC Dream if it is running on 1.5 Cupcake T Mobile Release(got it from droiddog.com) if i want to root and run cyanogenmod. I dont mind if i have to use the bad cupcake rom but how can i get through the setup if i have a Fido Sim card and im on pay as you go. I can get a sim with data from a friend if that works. Thanks guy
PS: I am very newb when it comes to android its my second day and i already screwed my phone
Your help is greatly appreciated

You didn't need to use the drea file, you could have wiped then flashed the rom again. your phone will still be unlocked even if you change to a diff rom.

I have a HTC hero with mobi pcs, a hawaiian regional carrier that runs off they own towers and no big parent company (verizon, att, etc). My question is that if I flash to a new rom does the rom get rid of the prl and all the information to connect to the certain network I'm on. The hero is laggy and since the updates go thru the carrier with android I doubt my lil company will update us.
I have checked google n whatnot but when someone asks a question like this the thread always goes into another topic and the original answer is not fully answered. Thanks ya'll!
PS. Cdma network so I thought this would be the right catagorie to post lol

cant answer for sure...i BELIEVE a sprint based rom would mess with your service somehow. definatly dont flash fresh2.0d, which DOES affect your pri
sorry i cant be more of a help.
are you rooted? and if so, what recovery?
after my last response, i vaugly remember reading another thread similiar to this. ill link you tomaro
It shouldnt mess with connection. Since im pretty sure a rom doesnt mess with the radio on your phone.
If you do root your phone and get amon-RA-v1.6.2 you can make a nandroid backup. Which is a backup of your entire rom. You can have that to always go back to.
Use DamageControl 2.07.2.. If your connection doesnt go threw right away, then go to setting>about phone>Update Profile and Update PRL.. Both would fix your connections with your carrier.
If that fails to connect, then just nandroid back to your defualt rom.
But im 95% sure it would work.
MAKE sure you do Backup/Restore>Nandroid backup

Now I see the ways to root a non Sprint hero with the sprint ruu then choose don't change Pri, flash to sprint ruu and root it that way. I don't like the idea of flashing it to sprint.LOL. what would be the best way to root it?
There is a way to Root non sprint heros.
I think you have to ruin an SD card, but IMO it's worth it.
ALSO
There is a 1 special ROM for NON Sprint Hero's. I really can't for the life of me remember what its called....maybe "Unsung Hero" or something like that.
But it does not mod PRIs or PRLs like some of the Sprint Roms do.
You can search on "Root Non Sprint Hero" to come up with the how to root with a "Gold Card"
Then you can search for
"Non Sprint ROM"
and get that rom for NON Sprint HEROs.
OK OK. Mahalo for everyone speedy reply! VERY HELPFUL!
Now I wonder how to get sprevovery or clockwork on it to do a full backup Oh the stock/unrooted rom. Like as how for I dump this rom so I can recover it later, maybe even with the pri /prl within it in case anything goes wrong. You guys are effing great, so much knowledge here!!!!
Ok I am feeling like a noob now. Maybe because I have had the baby all day crying and driving me nuts, but I just can not figure out what to do to root my phone.
Here is what I have:
HTC Hero by Sprint
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 2.42.01.04.27
Software number: 2.31.651.7
This phone I have just received from the insurance company and it is stock nothing on it as of yet, so I am not worried about poising anything.
All I am looking to do is root the phone with the correct software, or even a one click step if available, and be able to use wifi tether for my iPad, and change the themes a little bit.
Would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction for the current working root? I have searched and looked in the wiki, but there are so many rooms and files that I just can not keep up.
Thank to all for your help!
Dafe.
Also forgot to say I have my old hero that was rooted, but back from 1.5. And now I got to clean that up before going back. That was a one click setup and worked great until the phone was ran over....lol
Thanks again.
Dafe.

I guess I'll get my flame retardant suit on here goes:
I can't seem to get data enabled on my device. I have trouble shot everything possible so I called sprint dreadfully, but since my phone is rooted and running a custom ROM they can't help till I re-vert. I have tried all ways of re verting and have simply failed everytime.
1. How can I revert to non rooted or how can I get the closest to stock so that I can try to enable data on this device?
2. If anyone has any idea why my data isn't working (I have tried profile updating as well as msl codes through sprint also simply enabling mobile networks) I'd be much happier
This is my father's device and I just to get the data flowing.
device info :
baseband version:2.42.02.10.29
ROM :Kush decks gingerbread
FIXED>>>Re Verted to a older Nan of DC and flashed RUU from HTC site officially unrooted.
