Hello,
I got my Nexus One when it first came out (via HK) and I live in Australia. When I set it all up it basically made the guess I was in the UK (UK English for language etc.)
Now that the N1 is available officially on a carrier here (not to mention the Desire) does anyone now how I can go about updating the news sources for the News and Weather widget to include Australia?
All the Sport topics are UK Sport related, same for Top News etc.
Still waiting for Google Navigation to be enabled here too :-(
Cheers, Tim.
Hi Tim
One workaround is to install MoreLocale2 from the market. Its free. As to the reason why you see uk news is cos ur language is set to english uk. For some obsure reason, the news & weather app ties to your language settings. With that app, u can set it to english (your country). You should then see more meaningful news after restarting the news app
Sound advice above.

Great App! Worked great. Thanks.

Dear Canadian htc magic/sapphire/dream/android users (and our international friends that visit Canada),
I just put up the beta version of EmWeather, my new weather application. It is very functional and looks nice. Most other weather apps do not provide this extended information or just have hooks to open weather underground websites (ie. slow and annoying). On top of that, most apps pull from Weather.com which, for Canada anyway, is next to useless.
Environment Canada provides excellent, surprisingly accurate, and very detailed forecasts for the whole country. This app aims to make this information easily available.
Features:
- Free, open-source
- Pulls data feeds from Environment Canada
- Shows current details and 8 extend forecasts on the main screen
- Easy access to detailed forecast information
- Ability to choose any city in canada, no need to do an independent search for obscure city codes.
- Wonderful GUI look
Coming in the next release:
- Alternative icon packs
- French language
Enjoy!

Hi!
Hi, I'm not sure. What device? I only have an HTC Dream, as far as I know it should work on any android device, though I have to admit it is pretty hardcoded to the screen size.
I'm from montreal too
0.9.1 update
Hi, I just fixed a small silly bug that crept in. 0.9 shows every day as being the "Evening", this is fixed now

Well....I know it's an HTC forum, but.....oh well my device is a omnia. And just so the people that run this site know, XDA is the place for Windows mobile devices and for MANY programmes, for exemple S2U2 and S2P. And the other sites don't have 1/5 of the information and activity that XDA as....
Thankx

I meant to say I have an HTC Magic, but still, it's the same.
Android is a totally different operating system (based on linux), there's really no way to get it to work with windows unless there is an emulator out there. I can't imagine having to program for a windows phone, sounds like a nightmare
Sorry!

Hey i'm from montreal too! Thanks for the app I like the fact it's using the environment canada data.
That's OK, thanks
Hello guys,
Can you recomend to me the best navigation program for i9000?
The coverage of the maps should have mandatory Romania(from where am I) and of course other neighbour countries.
For instance I checked Navigon and on their site is written they cover only 10% of Romania.
I saw that there is iGo my Way for Android but I am not able to downlod it for trying as Navigon for instance.
Thanks,
BR,
Mircea
Well the only services that fully cover romania are Google Maps, Garmin and Nokia maps.
I like NDrive, is maybe not the best Navigation Programm but i would try it. Maybe the coverage is not so bad for Romania. You can download a trial version over the market.
try waze! its awesome
Copilot. Romanian map is quite good
Hi,
I'm using motonav with igo maps and is working pretty well.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
copilot has the best interface. motonav/igo is much accurate though.
Ndrive plus the have a new build for Androids with new maps.
What about the Samsung Navigation app? I use Maps and CoPilot depending on my signal and love it.

Hi Mircea,
For our country you can use google maps as well. They are very detailed. For external countries personally i use Navigon and works decent or you can buy Igo for android, from my last experiences with igo, the Romanian map is well done.
Anybody knows good Nav with Thailand map?
using CoPilot
I use copilot, great nav app.

I second that!
What is wrong with th ebuilt in Google nav? I don't get it, why people want a different app...
- The maps are always going to be the most up to date available, since they are live.
- The maps along your route are all pre-cached so OTA data use is not an issue either
- The turn by turn directions work great
- You have street view photos at your destination to help you find the exact place, no other app does that

I have tested CoPilot, NDrive and Navigon, and in my opinion NDrive has the best/easiest interface so far, and its working very well in galaxy. No problem with Navigon or Copilot but in bouth the interface was crappy. I dont like them att all. When TomTom isnt available for android I use NDrive in my Galaxy with Skandinavia map. But everybody has it own taiste about the interface.

I agree that google nav is pretty winful, but it has far from universal coverage. To my knowledge it is US/UK only, and the UK one is in beta, and although definitely very usable, it still has some problems, hence why those in the EU might need a paid app.
TBH if more satnav programs had trial versions then I'd be happy to pay for an app having discovered that it is genuinely better, but it takes a few days at least to work out if your satnav feels good to you, and after that theres no refund *sigh*.
Hi
I am in Pakistan, google recently add Pakistan in the marketplace countries, buy my Incredible S market place app doesn't show me the paid apps. It only shows free apps.
I tried the web version but my phone is grayed out.

It appears that it was accidental, it wasn't meant to be released worldwide yet - so amazon disabled non-US access again.
Hopefully we'll get it soon !
Not yet!
In Czech Republic not yet, not available in mz region!
Hey there, my more experienced friends. I have been lurking for a while now, and am preeeeetty sure this question or some variation hasn't been asked yet. We'll see.
I am an American living in China and bought the Chinese unlocked dual SIM/SD card HTC One. Though I think it's a great phone, some aspects REALLY bother me.
#1 - It has this ****ty HTC Marketplace rather than the Google Play Store
#2 - I can't get the Blinkfeed to display anything but Chinese jibrish
After a few weeks of finding NO apps that I want, I took my phone to a large electronics market in Shanghai and had my phone rooted. Some things became better, some worse.
1) I asked the guy to get me the Play Store and he did...but not everything is available on it. I'm unsure why this is.
2) It's obvious that the Beats sound is no more.
3) I still can't get Blinkfeed to change whatsoever.
4) I can find more apps than before with both the Play Store and HTC Marketplace, but something is missing. I don't really know what it is.
5) The camera seems to be much less clear than it was before.
I guess my question is, since it's unlocked is there something I can do to wipe the Chinese stuff off of it and install all American software? Did the guy get me a less than optimal root? What am I doing wrong? What's the easiest solution?
All I want is for my phone to function like an unlocked US or International version. Thanks in advance for your help!
I suspect at least part of the problem is the government firewall blocking things.
You might start by installing Xposed framework and the Modaco toolkit module for it. Modaco has a setting that blocks the Play Store from checking your location.
But the best solution is probably flashing one of the custom roms with a non-carrier-specific setting. Not sure what that would do for you, but it should help.
I can confirm that the Government is blocking some of the apps. Both my phone have the play store but on is still on v3 and the other on v4. I couldn't find an airport security game and all the featured apps and top are also china-fied.

This is why VPN exists.

I suggest that you have a detailed read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273570
It will tell you everything that is currently known about modifying these devices, including how to install patches for blinkfeed that will allow you to read foreign news, and facebook etc..if the firewall lets it in to china

VPN won't work.
You could have one of two issues.
If you just can't view certain apps, do a search in a browser and open the link to the play store. If certain apps can't be installed, then you need to fix it another way.
If you have a foreign SIM card, put it in the phone, empty the play store cache, restart phone. Once you restart, you will be able to view/install the apps available in the country that SIM is from.
Maybe there is a rooted method that works now, but last I checked there wasn't a reliable working alternative. I used this with my One X I bought/used in China.
