Hi all, I am in somewhat of a confused state right now and hope you can help...
I have one of the first I9000s that O2 shipped here in the UK. My phone reports firmware of PDA/Phone I9000ADJF1 and CSC I9000O2UJF2. As I am in the UK I would have expected this to be one of the I9000XX firmwares and cannot seem to find any reference to the AD firmware anywhere.
Can someone shed any light on what the AD firmware is? Could it be that it is O2 specific and if so, do you think that flashing an XX firmware would cause a problem? I am just a little concerned about flashing this when 2.2 is officially out, hence the questions.
Please forgive my ignorance if the answer is simple, this is my first android phone
Bob
Before you do anything...
PLEASE back up your phones rom and host it online!
there are several of us on this forum who have o2 UK phones and have since upgraded losing our original firmware. If you upgrade and dont back up your original rom you cant send it back for warrenty!
So at least make a backup using odin, or if anyone else knows the way to extract the rom please say now lol.
Other then that I9000ADJF1 is fine for flashing I9000XWJM2 or any of the other european ones. the AD just stands for '02'
Will ROM Backup within ROM Manager do as a backup? I had to Root the phone, then backed up ROM to SD card. I got same ADJF1 Rom.
use clockwork recovery from ROM Manager (from the market) and do a nandroid backup

Ye. This is what i did. I just wander what it will contain rppted image. I will probably enable to unroot it later. Will all get back to normal(unrooted phone with warranty) then official froyo arrive?

Hi, I want to install darkys rom
to do this, i need to install cwm, which looks quite easy to do.
But i need to know how to uninstall it because i dont want to void my phones warranty.
So, can you please help me, how to uninstall Clockworkmod recovery and go back to original recovery (2e) ?
I think you're missing something. I'm sure that installing that custom ROM will void your warranty. I don't know which version of Darkys you're looking at but I expect it includes root acces, likely includes Clockwork Recovery and likely also includes a custom kernel.
What I do (and I think most people who play around with custom ROMs) is install whatever app is needed / wanted. If something goes bust with your phone, you should in most scenarios still be able to flash back a stock firmware and submit it for service. That's exactly what I've done on two occasions (my service issues weren't a result of my flashing) and what I know many others have done.
Good luck.
gtg2,
i know i am installing a rom will void my warranty.
what i can do is, i can flash an official samsung i9000 rom, back to my phone.
but will it also uninstall clockworkmod recovery? or should i do something special?
install samsung firmware with odin, and then go to kies and update the firmware?
how can i go back to official recovery, mine was "recovery 2e" ??????

It's unclear from your messages whether you're still running the original firmware or have upgraded already. If you're on the original, enter *#1234# in your phone's dialpad and post back here what it reports under PDA. Using that, you can find your original firmware for Android 2.1 on http://samfirmware.com and flash it to go back to stock and recovery 2e when you're through playing with a custom ROM. If you're not running your original firmware, you'll need to figure out what your original firmware was (I don' t know what it would have been for your area).
Do you know how to use ODIN to flash firmwares? If not, read up on the reference guide for our phone. I've found it very helpful.

Good luck.
hey Gtg2,
First off, thank you for your helps.
I am sorry i couldnt make it clear, i hope i do now:
I am on custom rom now (Darkys 8.0 rom).
I am new to this and this is my 5th day with my galaxy, i bought it as second hand and 22months more guarantee i had.
I need to know how to go back to original rom and recovery because just incase. If i bring my phone now (with custom rom and cwm recovery) then the service will say your phone is out of warranty. So, i need to know how to go back to make everything original.
I noted my phones codes, here they are:
pda: i9000jvjh1
phone: i9000jxjg2
csc: i9000trcji1
When installing the custom rom, i didnt make a nandroid backup because i already found one in the net. So, i dont have nandroid backup too.
I never used odin nor samfirmware (as i couldnt find anything same with my phones codes there (pda: i9000jvjh1, phone: i9000jxjg2, csc: i9000trcji1 - it was 2.1 Eclair).
I can find a laptop to use odin anytime tho (i am a mac user).
So, as i understand from your post; if i find my stock firmware (dont know where i can) and install it via odin then everything will be original (cwm recovery will gone and recovery 2e will come back) ?????
A friend of mine (not so technical person tho) said that i should use nandroid to back to original firmware then use kies to install newer firmware (downgrade to 2.1 then upgrade to 2.2.1). Should i do this????
just i need to know the process... sorry for long msg.
Thank you...
You wont find the branded firmware that came with your phone unless you have a copy .
Simplest will be to use Odin to flash to an older version Eclair .
Then use the Kies registry hack to upgrade to current software from your provider that will be branded .It would not matter if clockwork was on as its a legitimate product .

Agreed. This would work.
Thank you very much to both of you...
Hi guys purchased an SGS from Hong Kong, im in NZ, its on 2.1 and im desperate to get it to 2.2, is there anything i need to lookout for when upgrading?
If something happens and i need to revert back to stock do i need to use the HK firmware or can i use one local to my country?
Whats the best method to upgrade to 2.2, should i use a custom rom?
any help would be sweet, been reading alot but getting confused.
You should search up a program called odin. Its a pc program that most people use to flash their phones. Its also very versatile, can flash 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 etc. Careful though, flashing the wrong settings may cause your phone to not boot. The guides on odin are pretty clear though.
Another thing to familiarize yourself with is clock work mod recovery. Its an app on your phone that can also be used to flash firmware or install applications - very useful.
Should something go wrong when flashing, there is a thread on xda called EZ base. Its a pre configured set of odin files that are very effective in restoring a phone in bad situations.
Youtube may be your friend to help you see how this type of thing works but nothing beats trying it yourself
Thanks ive done heaps of reading, aware of both those programs, just worried about flashing the wrong rom!
Flashed roms on android before but all my phones have been from my country
will look for the EZ base thread as back up.
Just check in your settings which version of Android is on your phone now, then go to samfirmware.com and check with which region your firmware coincides. There firmwares are generally split by continents, so all Asian firmwares should work for all Asian SGS but check to be sure coz your phone may have been imported
Hi guys, im new to the sgs, but got some android experience. I was wondering if i can backup the whole ROM/system from my sgs (running 2.2.1 but its kinda branded from my carrier), so that i can flash the latest 2.3.3 or even 2.3.4 with odin and if for any reason i have to take it into warranty, i can reflash (preferably with odin) the stock branded rom that came with my phone. I would really appreciate, if anyone can tell me that, i searched around but couldnt really find this specific question. ive checked the stock ROM thread, and my version is there but im not sure its the branded one, cuz mine says 2011.02 and the one there says december 2010.
As long as you are rooted and have clockwork mod installed you can do a nandroid backup from the recovery menu I believe.
To restore you would have to flash the same base rom though, i.e. any 2.2.1 ROM then let it reboot then root it boot into recovery and restore nandroid backup.
I think that should work.
I'm sure someone wil correct me if I am wrong.
I wish I had done this when I bought by phone from Orange UK branded.
If you find out how to create an odin version please post here for others too.
ok thanks, i flashed the newer version over anyways.. thanks anyways
Is this correct?
Is this correct?
I have the same issue and after having mine sent into samsung for a successful repair (with a bunch of arguing and persuasion) I would like to back up this stock rom before continuing in order to avoid that situation again.
Mines a i9000M (bell version )
You always have to hack the ROM a bit to have a backup. Either you flash a custom kernel that'll give you CWM/nandroid backup or you root the ROM so you can do some adb magic.
There are also tons of stock ROMs floating around the interwebs, so with any luck you can find your own stock there.
hi all
i picked up a used rogers galaxy tab 7".upgraded to 2.3.3 official via kies.
GT-P1000R
rooted it.
unlocked it.
now i wish to use the phone capabilities and have a few questions.
i see in a couple posts that you no longer have to flash a complete rom, just a modem.
is that info correct?
i see that the jm2 modem seems to work best with the rogers tab,so do i just flash the modem with odin and that gives me the voice capability.
or do i need to flash a complete rom(European)?
also there is no dialer program so where do i get that at?or does it come with the modem flash.
is there a better modem than jm2 for the rogers tab?or the bell i9000 modem?
i am in canada
thanks,jeff

Careful what you flash though, if it's from XDA any ROM should do you okay but Samsung official ROMs may contain locked boot loaders. Catch up on some reading before doing anything.
Also i suggest that you do a complete backup of your tab before flashing anything else so that you could revert back in case of issues. Stock ROGERS firmware is hard to find. And if you do a backup I wouldn't mind a copy of it as long as you keep your personal information out. As a matter of fact, what i am after is a un-rooted fully stock ROGERS ROM. As i have deleted my original backup, and would like to revert completely back to stock, I would be very thankfull if you could help. But none the less you should do a complete backup, something like the roto or nandroid backups.
Try the OVERCOME rom, it's a great place to start as a noob to flashing, they have very detailed tutorials and the ROM is good.
EDIT: And the OVERCOME rom does work with the bell i9000 modem just fine for phone calls. Although the volume on the tab is not the greatest for a speakerphone.

Thanks for the offer. But no need to go through all of that unless you can un root with something like super one click (fast and easy, but I don't think that will work for you). If your tab is still under warranty you might want to learn how to root and unroot and restock and such (its all covered in the forums). Otherwise I don't want you playing with your tab and have a "bad" flash trying to help me out. Do read up in the dev section before you start flashing custom ROMs.
That said if you do feel comfortable flashing and decide to make a backup for yourself I definitely wouldn't mind a copy.

hi
not scared of bricking the tab,i have been flashing samsungs for the last couple years, captivates etc.my last tab i did a supposed gps fix which ended in a bootloop.
i managed to get it back but with a modified 2.2 firmware.then kies would not let me upgrade to 2.3.3(unofficial firmware error)
my problems have always been actually returning to stock.
in recovery i have the orange clockwork recovery that has an option to do factory reset.will this take me back to unrooted and unlocked???
if so consider it done.
i will need direction to do a full backup after that.
jeff
Doing a hard reset will NOT un-root or re-lock your device (as far as I know). The factory reset will clear the data and cache and should not touch the system. You have to un-root your device using the method you rooted it with or something along those lines.
As far as a backup is concerned, creating a system backup has been covered in the forums before. There is plenty of detailed instructions on performing a backuphave a look at the Roto Backup method.
Just picked up a galaxy tab ( rogers )
gt-p1000r
firmware 2.2
all stock
no root
no unlock
I would like to "give back" something
for all the HELLp you guys have given via these forums
( i swear all my grey hair started once i dumped my blackberry and went samsung and found this site! )
Anyway
If you are still looking for the a copy of the STOCK system before I start to play...
I will try to figure out how to make a copy for you
Hey guys I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI/3G (Model GT-P7300 I think).
I somehow managed to install Overcome ROM on it when I first got it. Now I want to give it to my Dad and I would like to revert everything back to factory default stock and all. I'm not sure what a Kernal is and not sure if I need to revert that too but probably.
How do I best go about this? I am having much difficulty understanding from googling and reading forum posts and I am not familiar with the acronyms and lingo the community uses. Would you be so kind to please explain to me step-by-step detailed as if I was a child lol
Please link me to everything I need to download!
Oh and another thing: I bought this tab in Asia so it has English and other Asian languages installed. Can I install a different language ROM for my Dad? (I think he prefers Swedish). Will it be locked to any providers or anything?
Thank you very much in advance. I really need help with this
Here's the stock unbranded firmware for Nordic countries
Here's the branded firmware for Telia (couldn't find any other carrier branded for Sweden
Then just flash using Odin, that will wipe everything though, but you'll be back to stock
I don't understand how to flash with Odin .. I don't even know what Odin is! Please give me super simple instructions
I downloaded the firmware file and I put it on my tablet's SD card. I rebooted into Recovery mode and I try to apply the update from the ZIP file. But it says it cannot Open it?! What am I doing wrong?
All is explained in this post here, that is stickied at the top of this section
overome is quite a standard rom with features that are not really seen... the look is stock... I don't see a reason to revert back...
Thanks guys, I successfully flashed with Odin and I think it was a success. You have been very helpful.
But I am still not sure if 100% everything is set to default stock in case of a future warranty claim. Is there anything else I should do? Do I need to install stock Recovery as well?
Thanks again.

If you used Odin and one of the stock firmwares then it should have flashed a stock recovery as well IIRC, I'm pretty sure Odin on these tabs does the whole kit and kaboodle when it flashed
