Is there a mod for the nexus one that actually works for increasing the volume? I'm sick of having the superior phone but the lowest volume. I can hear these flip phones alerts or playing music over industrial fans and I can hardly hear my own phone when it's quiet.
right this sucks!!! please anyone knows of any kind to increase the volume really??
as in speaker wise not by ear??
We just need to be careful with how much increase we add. People will go and start blowing up their speakers
The music player Lithium has a volume increaser, but only works whilst playing music
Many of the custom kernels you can install will include the Audio Boost hack. Take a look at Wildmonk, pershoot or intersectraven's kernels.
Umm cyanogen ROM like doubles call volume with the hack and you can't turn it up past 50% or it blows your ear hole off. Have you never tried the cyan hack? It solves this issue long ago.
I have his rom. And Froyo. I still find it very hard to hear anything on my phone. My phone is a freaking Nexus One. Why is the volume so damn low? This is embarrassing. If I need something extra then please tell me what I need to do cause enough is enough. The phone ringing is so hard to hear I damn near miss calls. Meanwhile a flip phone boost mobile outranks my phone with it's volume? Tell me someone is kidding?
mine has always been quite loud, almost annoying, with notifications, when its stock or with cyanogen
maybe try amping up the volume of the ringtone file or notification with an audio program like audacity?
i also got the same problem. the volume is too low. a lot of times i missed the notification because i can't hear it. even in quiet room.
and i stumbled into this web. androidaudiohacks.com
the guy provided an apps to crank up the volume. but it still won't work on nexus one. the guy said it's WIP though. maybe someone can take a look at that web and figured a way to do it on nexus one.
If my phone is in my pocket, I simply do not hear it ring or notify no matter how loud i have it set, period. The sound is pretty good quality-wise but i can only watch a movie with ear buds or if its absolutely silent in the room.
I tried showing off my phone to a friend, he really like the picture but didnt understand the point since we couldnt hear the damn thing!!! He said he'll stick with his stupid iphone, and based on the piss poor performance he witnessed i honestly cant blame him. It is odd that the stock volume made it through testing the way it is, it actually makes me question whether or not the finished product did in fact get tested...of course i have the exact same problem with my $2000 vaio laptop. It plays blu-ray dvd's beautifully you just cant hear anything. So im not all that upset at htc in particular, perhaps there is validity to the blowing speakers concern....

I mean on cyan 508 the volume is insanely loud. Like 60% and the speaker distorts. Maybe this was cyan 507 I'm thinking cause I remember reading him say it was too loud so he was gonna reduce it a little.
But I mean the hack was like purposely over the top loud, like silly loud.
People might not realize that if they're using the original protective pouch - it'll eat 3/4 of what the speaker puts out, because it isn't holed in the right places.
The OP might be using one?
wasn't this the same problem plaguing the g1? just wanted to point this out but the iphone can be "loud" but it actually isn't. trying talking or watching a vid in a room with more than 4 people.

what happened was cyanogen added the volume increase into his ROMs. back in cyan 5.0.7 the volume hack was so ridiculously loud that it couldnt be turned up past around 60% cause it would just kill your ears. then i remember him or someone from the team posting that they were thinking about reducing it in a next version.
so i guess i'm saying you could switch to cyan 5.0.7 if you want to see what the speaker volume really could do and how loud it was, its capable. but it seems like he reduced it in newer cyan version. and nobody wants to use an outdated version, so i guess that doesnt help you. perhaps someone could get them to increase the hack volume again.
Got a link to it? Is there a downside to going to a older version? I have cyan 6.0.0. Is there anything different from this version other than volume compared to 5.0.7?

Well all previous versions of cyanogen ROM are available, but I don't have the link handy. It's on his site or maybe even in ROM manager. If you're really gonna go thru this, I would install cyan 5.0.7. The downside is its a 2.1 based ROM, when 2.2 froyo is now the norm. But that older ROM actually had the 720p video hack working which still isn't fully available on froyo ROMs yet. So that's another advantage of using a 2.1 based cyan ROM, in addition to the audio hack it has.
I'm sure this audio hack could be applied to the new cyan ROM if someone could tell us how to do it.
I sent him a PM but no answer. Its frustrating but also apart of the game. I just want volume.

The problem is that this warning happens at something like 40% volume which is way too quiet to listen to anything with my headphones in. Would be nice if there was a way to turn off the warning.
By the way this only happens when headphones are plugged in, it lets you raise the volume normally when they are disconnected.
I'm guessing is just an EU thing.
I have that warning too... I'm in the US. The warning itself doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that my headphone volume is noticeably quieter since the update. And it does occur around 40%, I thought everyone was getting this.

If everyone is getting this I'm surprised that not many have complained really. The popup is really, really annoying to me.
Sort of reminds me of the epilepsy warning they added to ps3 in an update that you cannot turn off and adds about 5 secs to boot time.
Can't say I've noticed headphones being quieter.

Some people don't have to be spammed with the same information over and over again to get the message.
It would be okay if the message came in at a volume that was dangerous but at the 40% mark its just too quiet to be usable.

I thought Boom Sound was supposed to be mini speaker loud? I notice the Beats Audio logo but my volume hasn't been spectacular. Is there a setting I'm missing, perhaps?
The example of use:
This morning, the new Man Of Steel trailer dropped and I was attempting to show off to my co-worker but it just wasn't very audible. Only air conditioning was blowing so we were pretty disappointed. You Tube streamed the trailer fine it just wasn't loud. We tried my Play Music and it wasn't loud either.
The HTC One is firmly in the VERY LOUD category.
Too loud in many instances. Have you, like, turned all volume controls up in settings?

I agree with you 100 percent we had an iPhone fanboy I was trying to showed off also and he wasn't impress ...I started another thread you can search for it and people are saying the htc capped the volume on 1.29 update and the 1.27 firmware is the loudest ...ofcourse say that to the htc one fanboy lol ...it amaze me there are dumb people can't understand what you are saying ..oh well you correct tho there are some of us that knownabout these issues on the htc one. ...by the way don't let me get started in the in call speaker volume ..not loud at all... Perhaps we need to flash 1.27..I bought this phone thinking it will blow me away on the volume dept guess not lol

I was wondering the same thing. I have not been blown away by the speakers on this phone. I got the 1.29 update almost immediately after the first boot so there is no way for me to know what it was like before that. Have you managed to find a workaround or a way to go back or enable the full volume of the speakers???
I'm not saying this is the case for everyone, but for me at least my volume and sound quality were both excellent with 1.27 and 1.29. I often put my phone down while playing music and it fills the room. It's still miles better than my friends s4 and zl. I have to think though that even if some are having volume issues (perhaps the notorious QC issues don't just apply to the build quality), at least you're still gaining the huge advantage of stereo vs mono sound
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Someplace, and I forget which forum this was in, a guy found the values needed in order to revert the sound back to as loud as before the HTC update. It was in either Faux123s kernel thread, the ARHD thread, or, Trickdroids thread. I'd advise scanning those. The only thing I remember about the post was it said change the values from 40/40 to 45/45 instead of 60/60 like some guy asked if he could do.
Or maybe that video just had very low volume anyway? Youtube video volumes are NOT normalized and if the vid was soft to being with, Youtube will just stick with that max volume. Nothing you can do with it.
Boomsound is advertised to not only be loud, but to be full as well without the screeching highs and nonexistent lows of other devices.

doesn't make any difference flashing either one over 4.2.2
The zips contain /system/tfa folder from 1.27.xx builds which were based on 4.1.x hence it reverts to same sound on future 1.29.xx builds when flashed
However, in 4.2.2 these files are different and since we do not have any LOUD firmware from 4.2.2 nothing to replace ...we are stuck with what htc gives

Please ask these questions in the Q&A section.
the speakers are already pretty darn loud. not really much left to do with them.
I would have to agree that they aren't as loud as I though they'd be. I compared it to an Iphone 4s and it's marginally louder... Now the sound quality on the other hand is much richer than any other phone speaker I've ever heard.
A speaker hack would be awesome, as long as it doesn't reduce the sound quality.

If you feel it's volume is insufficent then either
1) your volume is turned down

I don't wish to get into a slanging match with you, or anyone else. I did consider if my response was wise, and hoped that it wouldn't have elicited the response that it did. You obviously have a very different opinion of loud. I did wonder if I was mistaken and you weren't referring to the HTC One . I haven't been influenced in my opinion by anything I read anywhere, my opinion is based solely on listening to my HTC One through its speakers at various volume settings with music and videos.

You telling me you think you tube video is loud on htc one? Dude you're crazy. You must of seriously doing it in library lol
@OP
There's a sony xloud hack scattered in the xda forums. Once you port it on HTC One it should increase the loudness by multiple levels. Take for example my old 2011 HTC Phone. Just 1 level from the lowest setting could make it already sound loud enough for people to hear it clearly within 3 meters.
Whilst when disabled you can't even hear anything unless you put the speaker in your ear and you'll hear only a tiny sound.
So how do we get it to
work..

I don't understand why everybody is bagging on this guy cause I made my first phone call with the phone and I was definitely surprised at how NOT LOUD the volume was. I even tried turning it up... definitely was a little inadequate for my taste. I mean I haven't said much said that was only one call and one call only but I seriously would have preferred the volume to have been louder personally.
the speakerphone during the call definitely way too low
The speaker volume in calls is a little too low, I will give you that, but then we are not trying to use the speaker phone in a crowded room or trying to let every single person on a crowded train hear your conversation.
As for youtube and the music app, I have yet to hear a phone best the volume or quality of the HTC One speakers. Iphone ? HAHAHA please don't make me laugh so much i'll bust a gut!
As for Note 2 volume, sure, it might be loud, but for crying out loud, that phone is HUGE!

So in the first picture is the hole mod in the speaker, then in the second and third shots you can see the little speaker hole with mesh made for the back cover to let even more sound out of the device, it's nothing special but I'm super pleased with the way it turned out, my volume is much louder now and it looks simple and clean. You're welcome and thanks for sharing this with us. I'm sure there will be others brave enough to do this mod. The plus side is that you now have true surround sound. It'll be cool if phone manufacturers do this.

Yeah it would be pretty cool, the only problem is that my sound is a little tinny, not much just a little, but its fine I only did this so I could actually hear the damn thing ring when its in my pocket haha.

I'm confused now. You're saying that the sound didn't improve significantly? It was a marginal improvement?

The speaker got louder, but the sound quality is a little tinny.

I kind of think I understand. Are you saying that the sound was muffled before and now its less muffled/not muffed anymore because of the mod?
Does the sound, sound distorted at high volume?

There is some sort of mod or app that you can use once rooted to increase the decibels. I can't vouch for how good sound quality will be once increased since I'm not rooted but you can always test it out.

Yes, look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532788. You can either flash a zip or change the value manualy in Root Explorer. It improves the sound volume for sure, i`am using it myself.
And many custom kernels have this option to increase volume output (like faux or Franco). Pretty useful imo...

That's alright, I don't really use my phone speaker for anything besides my ringtones honestly.
It's a pretty common fact now that compared to most other smart phones, the Droid Turbo volume just does not get very loud, in fact it's rather quiet. I'm not looking to blow out my ears, but I'd like to be able to comfortably hear who I'm speaking with on the phone (w/o distortion), and having sufficient (it's at least a few notches lower than my previous iphone 5s) volume through the headphones is absolutely essential for me as the music player is the most important part of the phone for me, aside from call/text. How do I increase the volume? I believe it can be found in the build script, but it seems a little more in-depth than other phones. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

My wife called me the other day. She was so loud that I was able to put it on my lap and both me and my daughter could hear her. I didn't even have to use the speaker phone.
Anyone else?
When there is any sort of natural noise from outside or out in the public, it is noticeably quieter than any smartphone I've had, other than the 2013 moto x, so it seems to be a modern Motorola thing. I know this is an easy fix for someone who is informed. Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
Can anyone help me please?

Nobody has an answer because there is no fix. Root is needed to modify volumes past stock.
Turn off audio effects for headphone. Place speaker grille (not glass) at the middle of your ear when talking. Use custom ringtones for increased volume if the stock ones aren't loud enough.
I personally find it all to be plenty loud.

Really? I didn't think you needed root to modify the build script...and yes, I know where to put my ear, thanks.

Prove me wrong then. Modify it without root.
I think you will find out that root is needed.

That's fine, I was not sure, hence the comment.

Could it be the call privacy settings?
Phone -> Settings -> Voice Privacy (mine is set to off)
Settings -> Sound -> Audio Effects (should be off)
I personally think that the phone is too quiet as well.. Definitely doesn't pass the shower test. I should be able to hear my phone playing music over the sound of the shower and the bathroom fan at the same time - I can't.
I went through multiple replacements for this issue. Evidently, the new unit I received (assembled 12/15/14) does not exhibit a volume problem. I think there is an issue with many of the units out in the wild, but it is unclear if there will be/can be a software fix without root. For those with defective devices, no amount of settings changes to the stock software seem to work. I would contact Verizon wile you have the opportunity to do so. Keep in mind, however, that you are opening a can of worms. It might take a few replacements to get one with better volume.

Voice Privacy lowers volume? Mine was checked...
I really noticed the low volume of this phone and I made a patch to make it higher, it only works for Moto maxx at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it can be achieved in droid turbo via android sdk adb commands I need to keep reading about it.
Could to share the patch?

Negatory. that is a proprietary setup and adb, well it isn't.
So it is correct that nothing can be done until we achieve root?

I enabled HD calling for a day, but nobody I know has that feature, so it's useless to me atm. It made regular calls sound fuzzy n tinny...thanks for the suggestion tho
