I thought Boom Sound was supposed to be mini speaker loud? I notice the Beats Audio logo but my volume hasn't been spectacular. Is there a setting I'm missing, perhaps?
The example of use:
This morning, the new Man Of Steel trailer dropped and I was attempting to show off to my co-worker but it just wasn't very audible. Only air conditioning was blowing so we were pretty disappointed. You Tube streamed the trailer fine it just wasn't loud. We tried my Play Music and it wasn't loud either.
The HTC One is firmly in the VERY LOUD category.
Too loud in many instances. Have you, like, turned all volume controls up in settings?

It's the loudest smartphone speaker, either your phone is defective or your volume controls weren't all the way up.

I agree with you 100 percent we had an iPhone fanboy I was trying to showed off also and he wasn't impress ...I started another thread you can search for it and people are saying the htc capped the volume on 1.29 update and the 1.27 firmware is the loudest ...ofcourse say that to the htc one fanboy lol ...it amaze me there are dumb people can't understand what you are saying ..oh well you correct tho there are some of us that knownabout these issues on the htc one. ...by the way don't let me get started in the in call speaker volume ..not loud at all... Perhaps we need to flash 1.27..I bought this phone thinking it will blow me away on the volume dept guess not lol

I was wondering the same thing. I have not been blown away by the speakers on this phone. I got the 1.29 update almost immediately after the first boot so there is no way for me to know what it was like before that. Have you managed to find a workaround or a way to go back or enable the full volume of the speakers???
I'm not saying this is the case for everyone, but for me at least my volume and sound quality were both excellent with 1.27 and 1.29. I often put my phone down while playing music and it fills the room. It's still miles better than my friends s4 and zl. I have to think though that even if some are having volume issues (perhaps the notorious QC issues don't just apply to the build quality), at least you're still gaining the huge advantage of stereo vs mono sound

Someplace, and I forget which forum this was in, a guy found the values needed in order to revert the sound back to as loud as before the HTC update. It was in either Faux123s kernel thread, the ARHD thread, or, Trickdroids thread. I'd advise scanning those. The only thing I remember about the post was it said change the values from 40/40 to 45/45 instead of 60/60 like some guy asked if he could do.
Or maybe that video just had very low volume anyway? Youtube video volumes are NOT normalized and if the vid was soft to being with, Youtube will just stick with that max volume. Nothing you can do with it.
Boomsound is advertised to not only be loud, but to be full as well without the screeching highs and nonexistent lows of other devices.
I've seen a couple zips around the forum for BoomSound I havnt tried them yet but I'll see if I can find em and post them here
http://db.tt/ro9I8C1Y BoomSound zip
http://db.tt/XvIHQ5UK improved BoomSound zip
I would backup before trying these so you can restore if it has negative affects or if you want to try both.the improved BoomSound is a little smaller than the first file
I don't remember where i downloaded these from but I think it was arhd forum.

doesn't make any difference flashing either one over 4.2.2
The zips contain /system/tfa folder from 1.27.xx builds which were based on 4.1.x hence it reverts to same sound on future 1.29.xx builds when flashed
However, in 4.2.2 these files are different and since we do not have any LOUD firmware from 4.2.2 nothing to replace ...we are stuck with what htc gives

Played same YouTube video with my unrooted One and friend's unrooted S4. Louder on S4 even with mine on full volume and front facing speakers. Audio files aren't particularly loud either. Still on 4.1.2. Expecting a little more boom.

Is there a mod for the nexus one that actually works for increasing the volume? I'm sick of having the superior phone but the lowest volume. I can hear these flip phones alerts or playing music over industrial fans and I can hardly hear my own phone when it's quiet.
right this sucks!!! please anyone knows of any kind to increase the volume really??
as in speaker wise not by ear??
We just need to be careful with how much increase we add. People will go and start blowing up their speakers
The music player Lithium has a volume increaser, but only works whilst playing music
Many of the custom kernels you can install will include the Audio Boost hack. Take a look at Wildmonk, pershoot or intersectraven's kernels.
Umm cyanogen ROM like doubles call volume with the hack and you can't turn it up past 50% or it blows your ear hole off. Have you never tried the cyan hack? It solves this issue long ago.
I have his rom. And Froyo. I still find it very hard to hear anything on my phone. My phone is a freaking Nexus One. Why is the volume so damn low? This is embarrassing. If I need something extra then please tell me what I need to do cause enough is enough. The phone ringing is so hard to hear I damn near miss calls. Meanwhile a flip phone boost mobile outranks my phone with it's volume? Tell me someone is kidding?
mine has always been quite loud, almost annoying, with notifications, when its stock or with cyanogen
maybe try amping up the volume of the ringtone file or notification with an audio program like audacity?
i also got the same problem. the volume is too low. a lot of times i missed the notification because i can't hear it. even in quiet room.
and i stumbled into this web. androidaudiohacks.com
the guy provided an apps to crank up the volume. but it still won't work on nexus one. the guy said it's WIP though. maybe someone can take a look at that web and figured a way to do it on nexus one.
If my phone is in my pocket, I simply do not hear it ring or notify no matter how loud i have it set, period. The sound is pretty good quality-wise but i can only watch a movie with ear buds or if its absolutely silent in the room.
I tried showing off my phone to a friend, he really like the picture but didnt understand the point since we couldnt hear the damn thing!!! He said he'll stick with his stupid iphone, and based on the piss poor performance he witnessed i honestly cant blame him. It is odd that the stock volume made it through testing the way it is, it actually makes me question whether or not the finished product did in fact get tested...of course i have the exact same problem with my $2000 vaio laptop. It plays blu-ray dvd's beautifully you just cant hear anything. So im not all that upset at htc in particular, perhaps there is validity to the blowing speakers concern....

I mean on cyan 508 the volume is insanely loud. Like 60% and the speaker distorts. Maybe this was cyan 507 I'm thinking cause I remember reading him say it was too loud so he was gonna reduce it a little.
But I mean the hack was like purposely over the top loud, like silly loud.
People might not realize that if they're using the original protective pouch - it'll eat 3/4 of what the speaker puts out, because it isn't holed in the right places.
The OP might be using one?
wasn't this the same problem plaguing the g1? just wanted to point this out but the iphone can be "loud" but it actually isn't. trying talking or watching a vid in a room with more than 4 people.

what happened was cyanogen added the volume increase into his ROMs. back in cyan 5.0.7 the volume hack was so ridiculously loud that it couldnt be turned up past around 60% cause it would just kill your ears. then i remember him or someone from the team posting that they were thinking about reducing it in a next version.
so i guess i'm saying you could switch to cyan 5.0.7 if you want to see what the speaker volume really could do and how loud it was, its capable. but it seems like he reduced it in newer cyan version. and nobody wants to use an outdated version, so i guess that doesnt help you. perhaps someone could get them to increase the hack volume again.
Got a link to it? Is there a downside to going to a older version? I have cyan 6.0.0. Is there anything different from this version other than volume compared to 5.0.7?

Well all previous versions of cyanogen ROM are available, but I don't have the link handy. It's on his site or maybe even in ROM manager. If you're really gonna go thru this, I would install cyan 5.0.7. The downside is its a 2.1 based ROM, when 2.2 froyo is now the norm. But that older ROM actually had the 720p video hack working which still isn't fully available on froyo ROMs yet. So that's another advantage of using a 2.1 based cyan ROM, in addition to the audio hack it has.
I'm sure this audio hack could be applied to the new cyan ROM if someone could tell us how to do it.
I sent him a PM but no answer. Its frustrating but also apart of the game. I just want volume.

edit1: booting correctly with DarkDroid, but I didn't "feel" anything different. I'll try again once I get my PortaPros back
apparently theres been problems getting this to work from the thread i posted heres the flashable zip i downloaded and flashed
I flashed this over Mavrom, not sure i hear a difference or not through speaker on the phone but everything seems to work correctly.
Running MavROM 3.5 w/ safeboot; flashed this zip w/o error, but when I checked the system folder the files were not there. I placed them manually, rebooted, and the difference is definetly noticeable.
Edit: I flashed the zip from the original source, not the one attached in this thread
I just copied all onto /system , rebooted, got into safestrap and fixed permissions

Its only an equalizer really. Will only notice a real big diff with really good headphones

The headphones don't have to be really good but u probably shouldn't be looking for a difference with really cheap ones I have some Panasonic ones that only cost 14 bucks and I can hear a big difference in those,/ the biggest difference though is the car or speakers.... there's no visual difference only audible the software equalizes the music for you to get the best sound from each song so there's no need for a manual equalizer
Also are u intslling it manually? Cuz the zip I posted is a flashable one

I'm not a huge audiophile so it may be different, but my ears may not recognize it. Is it because I'm used to using DSP Manager within CM9? I usually have the "Rock" equalizer set and the Bass Booster on the mid setting.
I've never used the DSP IN ICS. So I couldn't tell you if it sounds different from that I just know that from the stock ics with no equalizing was a considerable step down from the beats audio mod

Has anyone here used PowerAmp before and compared this to tuning though PowerAmp's EQ?
Also, just from looking in the .zip, there SHOULDN'T be anything found in /system/app as there is no .apk included.
I copied the files manually and I think, there there is a noticable difference. On My Milestone 2 and Droid 3 the volume didn't raise more at the last 3 steps of the volume bar. Now, especially with a headset plugged in there is a much louder sound, so loud that it hurts.
Does anyone have 2 Droid 3's and can do a comparison? Maybe with a db-meter app?
I use it with winamp and the sound difference is much better, the bass is more clear and the treble is clear. Before it sounded like one was fighting with another not anymore. I'm using Gogroove bluetooth headphones to due to my headphone jack not working.
The updater script doesn't seem to mount system. For those having trouble flashing, mount /system manually(mounts and storage>mount /system)

Please ask these questions in the Q&A section.
the speakers are already pretty darn loud. not really much left to do with them.
I would have to agree that they aren't as loud as I though they'd be. I compared it to an Iphone 4s and it's marginally louder... Now the sound quality on the other hand is much richer than any other phone speaker I've ever heard.
A speaker hack would be awesome, as long as it doesn't reduce the sound quality.

If you feel it's volume is insufficent then either

I don't wish to get into a slanging match with you, or anyone else. I did consider if my response was wise, and hoped that it wouldn't have elicited the response that it did. You obviously have a very different opinion of loud. I did wonder if I was mistaken and you weren't referring to the HTC One . I haven't been influenced in my opinion by anything I read anywhere, my opinion is based solely on listening to my HTC One through its speakers at various volume settings with music and videos.

You telling me you think you tube video is loud on htc one? Dude you're crazy. You must of seriously doing it in library lol
@OP
There's a sony xloud hack scattered in the xda forums. Once you port it on HTC One it should increase the loudness by multiple levels. Take for example my old 2011 HTC Phone. Just 1 level from the lowest setting could make it already sound loud enough for people to hear it clearly within 3 meters.
Whilst when disabled you can't even hear anything unless you put the speaker in your ear and you'll hear only a tiny sound.
So how do we get it to
work..

I don't understand why everybody is bagging on this guy cause I made my first phone call with the phone and I was definitely surprised at how NOT LOUD the volume was. I even tried turning it up... definitely was a little inadequate for my taste. I mean I haven't said much said that was only one call and one call only but I seriously would have preferred the volume to have been louder personally.
the speakerphone during the call definitely way too low
The speaker volume in calls is a little too low, I will give you that, but then we are not trying to use the speaker phone in a crowded room or trying to let every single person on a crowded train hear your conversation.
As for youtube and the music app, I have yet to hear a phone best the volume or quality of the HTC One speakers. Iphone ? HAHAHA please don't make me laugh so much i'll bust a gut!

Hello,
I just found out that when you switch the "Beats Audio" off in settings, you don't actually get a flat EQ. When you have it off, it EQ's the sound to drop the lows and highs, so that when you turn it on, you think, "That sounds so much better!" I'm an audiophile and this pisses me off. Does anyone know how to completely uninstall Beats Audio? Is it in the kernel?
Thanks,

I would honestly love an AOSP or CM or AOKP ROM, but the only thing I would miss is the Sense 5 camera. It has too many features to give up. That's why I want to know how to uninstall Beats. Couldn't find it. But it may be somewhere.
I tried digging through a bunch of folders to find files with "beats" in the name. Found this: http://www.motion-coding.com/web/contact/uninstall_beats.pdf . Only some of the files I found not in the folder they say but in /etc. I deleted the ones that existed there and nada. I also found one file with beats in it in the /system/lib and deleted it and nada. I also tried unarchiving the settings.apk from system/app and seeing if I could find something to do with beats. I found this in the AndroidManifest.xml.
"com.htc.permission.useHtcSoundProfileServices-com.htc.permission.useHtcSoundProfileProvider"
Dunno if it has anything to do with beats or what you're supposed to do with it. This seems hard to do. But I'm sure it's possible. Someone with experience please help!

Yeah, and the Beats function still works.
Honestly, I really like beats.
I don't use headphones and only the speakers and beats sounds great.
Don't think my ears are knackered. Appreciate everyone is different and we all like what we like but it seems so picky to me when all the haters come on here.

I never specifically stated that I hate beats or anything to that effect. I simply want to be able to choose whether I have my music corrupted or not.
And, you don't hear how it detrimentally affects your music unless you listen through quality headphones.
Bump.

Anyone?
Are you sure that having Beats off cuts the mids and highs? Because when I turned it off they were appreciably better, although that could be a) the headphones I was using and b) that the bass boost on Beats is much too much for certain types of music and so even if it does boost the mids and highs you don't notice it.
I think that it does although there is no way to know for sure, but I still would like to completely remove it.

Just keep it off. Or you can use the Phillips Headset app! It actually works quite well in conjunction with beats if you put the right settings

Beats is a gimmick by making the OFF mode sound like garbage and the "correcting" what it messed up in the on mode. I ran a file consisting of pink noise through it and can honestly say the off mode does exactly what the OP says. For this reason Alone I will not update my AT&T GS3 to KitKat via the new OTA. It has the Beats Audio virus baked into the ROM and I haven't figured out to scrub it from the ROM. Not only can I not scrub it but it renders the far superior Viper4Android FX useless. I will not buy a phone that has Beats preinstalled... Ever.

Hello,
I just found out that when you switch the "Beats Audio" off in settings, you don't actually get a flat EQ. When you have it off, it EQ's the sound to drop the lows and highs, so that when you turn it on, you think, "That sounds so much better!" I'm an audiophile and this pisses me off. Does anyone know how to completely uninstall Beats Audio? Is it in the kernel?
Thanks,

This method that i used works but in order for this method to work you should have taken a backup of the following before installing the beats audio driver backup with twrp and when you want to uninstall the beats audio driver just restore your backup with twrp it worked for me
your backup should contain the following before installing the beats driver
1) system
2) efs
3) modem
4) boot and
5) recovery
i cant guarantee you that it works
if you want to try this method you can but your responsible for the damage of your device try it on your own risk
i am not responsible if anything happens to your device
I went to a concert last night, and I recorded some video, and on the first video I recorded, the audio was perfect, as always. However, on all the following videos, the second microphone which this phone uses for capturing the louder audio never turned on, so now all of my videos (except the first) are in mono (with only audio coming from the left speaker, and the audio quality sounds like ****, like every other phone.)
I have a Sprint HTC One, and it's 100% stock. When I got home, my phone died due to no battery (maybe it just needed a restart?) and now it's working fine. What gives? Has this ever happened to anybody? I hope it was just a random software glitch, that's what I'm assuming it was.

I imagine it probably was. The thing with software is sure the testers may test for everything they feel is necessary. But it is impossible to test for every scenario out there, so every once in a while a bug may slip through the cracks, usually its a minor nuisance but in any case yeah it was probably a minor bug with the camera software or something.
Hey just letting you know, you're not alone and it doesn't happen because of battery. I have same issue and some others reported in the international thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660313
First video is always fine with stereo recording, subsequent videos only capture left channel audio. A reboot will allow you to record in stereo again, but just that one time.
If you can test and post there would be great because I feel a lot of people would be affected by this, they just didn't listen on a computer or through headphones yet.

I can confirm this. I just did an RUU and i recorded using the voice recorder and video recorder and both come out with only 1 channel being used and its the left one.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xuxe5l1xvqutp0g/JSajfATqqY That has 4 samples in it, 2 using the latest stock update on the sprint htc one m7 and the other 2 are from the sixth sense rom rls2

Thanks, it an annoying bug that no one seems to be complaining about too much. Probably because if you don't move the videos off the phone or listen through headphones, you won't notice.
Somehow we have to get the attention of HTC to fix during next update.
If you can post your examples in the international thread, there is a thread created over there, that would be good. My fear is that now the M8 is out attention will be there for HTC.
