thanks, waiting for this
Nice work / idea man. Looking forward to testing it out.

Thanks I am following this one!
I still need a tester for the Captivate. If you have MSN, PM me.
As for updates on this, check the main site / forums to stay tuned and find the download link, I have too many topics to manage here.
Check my sig link
Eagerly awaiting this one as well!
OP, are you going to be using an on screen d-pad input for this or implement a type of on screen analog stick (not unlike the iPhones Doom Resurrection)?
Because they seem much more free-flowing, so to speak. Especially in FPS games.
Or even better- a dual-analog input like most consoles FPS games (left analog for movement and direction & right analog for freelook?) could that be possible? I think that would definitely make the playing experience much more enjoyable.
Anyways, good luck!

As of right now it's a mix between a D-pad and analog stick sortof. But I may go for a complete analog feel.. That's a good idea.
Also, BRILLIANT idea with the flipped landscape so you can use the volume rocker for input ;D

Yes it is truly amazing ease of access.
Is it possible to use the six axis accelerometer to control the look/aim? That would eliminate the use of the bottom right analog and would just be amazing. But it sounds like a tricky implementation.

play heavy gunner and get back to me on that. It uses the accerometer and it's very difficult to use. I don't want to swing my phone around to lay an FPS game. I also vote for dual analog controls. I have a captivate, and I'd be willing to test this game.
Been testing this on and an off all day on my Captivate. Works great. I average about 50ish fps. Once in ahwile it will hit 60, then lag for a split second and jump to 40. Then back to 50s. Much faster than my Nexus. Multi touch works alot better also, its very playable. The taunt and crouch buttons don't work for me, and neither does the weapon switching bar. So I'm stuck with whatever I pickup. All in all, not bad for a beta.
I must have missed the link to the .apk

My vote, after playing a NOVA and Crusade of Destiny, is a D-pad like in Crusade. It is very fluid and easy to use. In a perfect world, I would say have two D-pads: left for movement and right for look. Then use the volume up to fire.
I have a captivate if you need more testers. I still can not believe we get 40-60 FPS on this game. Never did I think I would see the day where my cell phone can play 3d FPS with ease.

A dpad for aim/look would be horrible. With a touch screen we can get aim close to the accuracy of a mouse. with some sort of dpad we're taking a huge step back.
Crusade of destiny is different because thats not a first person shooter, its 3rd person.
Make the controls like nova. They are easy. (Left joystick moves. Drag anywhere on screen to aim, fire button can be moved like a joystick to get finer accuracy..)
I dont like the arrows, make it a joystick plz.
I am glad to help too with my Captivate

Isn't Q3 open sourced? there are a lot of free versions of the game available that just use different skins, so you should be able to easily port a free version of the game over.
you should start up a website/donation area and take requests at porting other games
I have hosting available that im not using

Hey everyone. I posted a while back about my previous app, "Goonchie Blunch" but nobody really commented. It got almost 2,000 downloads. I redesigned it all with new graphics and sounds. It's really cool now! It's a new app, so I renamed it "Touch Drummer - Demo". I'd love it if some of you could get it and let me know what you think! It should be under Games > Just In, relatively close to the top.
If you don't have Market here is the .apk
Version 1.21
http://www.mediafire.com/?nmjmmjndmix
Recent updates added new animated menus, "techno" sounds, support for all screen sizes, and runs on Cupcake 1.5 too now. I'm getting a lot of feedback now, since there have been almost 5,000 downloads of "Touch Drummer", and I think I'm gonna try to add some really cool features like creating custom loops and multitouch, then make that version cost around $2, whadayathink?

I am not sure if it is a paid app or not, but you may want to put either a QR, or a link for it in here since I just wrote something about it and it will probably be up in the portal sometime next week...
Thanks dude! The more time I have to work on it, the faster it will be. At the current state, there are a lot of png images that can take some time to switch on older phones. But the audio is pretty fast because the clips are ogg format.
I'm working on a version with multitouch support, since all the reviews have asked for it. I've got an HTC Incredible I can test on. But more importantly, I'm recognizing a multitouch on our old screens and I'll see if I can't play a new sound when you hit another drum, even if you don't release the first finger yet. That will probably be ready in a week if it works well.

Multitouch
So I'm really close to having multitouch work 100% (just for this app) on our devices. The problem I finally hit was there is no difference in the values I'm getting if you a) touch once, then remove and touch somewhere else simultaneously, or b) touch once and hold, and then touch somewhere else (multitouch). I can't think of a way to differentiate the two types of touches and it's the last piece of the puzzle. Usually when you lift up that first finger you get a certain code back, but when you press somewhere else quick enough the code does not come up! Any programmers or someone with an idea can help me?
Updated first post with new multitouch* app.
* - It works 60% of the time, every time.

That's alright. I'll have to do some updating of that title on the market (actually I just did update it to 1.03, but Touch Drummer is the version that allows really quick clicking on our devices), and I'll just tell people to search for the new version with more features will be called "Touch Drummer." Thanks a lot egzthunder!
EDIT: Touch Drummer - Demo is uploaded to the market.
New version, supports our small screens now, and even Cupcake. Updated first post with the newest apk.
So, our devices can do multitouch? Or at least, a hack up job?

Yes it's a hack job, the way I implemented it. When you first press twice I can recognize both fingers almost accurately. But if you try to move them there's no way of telling which one you are moving.
This was in the post earlier but I must have deleted it. The multi-touch was acting up because of the nature of the program and its quick presses. I took it out because most of the devices running my app are capacitive screens anyway. But if you wanted to see it, I could write up a simple demo app that would show a "1" under the first finger and a "2" under the next finger. It's an implementation that works, but I just don't have a good use for it in my app.
..
..
If you buy it do you get a APK to download? Can you explain the process of getting it to your Xoom that you used?
..
How is the game. looks a lot like Halo
thats pretty much what it is. Gameloft ports popular console games to mobile under different names so they dont get sued. They do make awesome games. This one has been around for a little while but it is amazing on the xoom! Everything is High-res HD just like it would be on an Ipad. Its your typical firstperson shooter but its still pretty fun.
Just Tried it and its complete Crap! Even in your uploaded Pic you can see the Menus on top are cut off.

I completely disagree. Yes the menus are cutoff. But they still work and the game controls WORK PERFECT. The game scales the graphics properly to hd. Yes its not perfect but it works and it works good. So what if some of the menu elements arent displaying properly, the game and gameplay are solid.
You just dont seem to understand how to use it. ALL of the weapon select/reload/pause/grenade work perfectly for me.

I downloaded from this site with my xoom.
The menus are a little off but still usable. You can also customize your button layout in the in game settings and move all of the button elements anywhere you would like them on the screen. This way you can actually get the weapon select to show fully. I was still unable to use the map because it is too far cut off at the top of the screen, but it definitely works.
Also note that some of the button require that you select slightly below the actual button on the screen.

Out of curiosity, has anyone notified Gameloft of the issue with the cutoff screens on Xoom? I would like to get this but do not want to go through unnecessary tweaks to get it to work properly.
EDIT: I posted an email to their support for full tablet support without screen cutoff. I suggest you do the same if you want this to be Honeycomb optimized. Can't be that hard since the reports here claim the game works fine otherwise. Do your part and report it to the source!

Yeah wtf is going on with that? No text at all. I'm hoping that will get fixed(unless the ships dont have any stats? Bizzare). The graphics are ok, too much lighting/shadows.. car just looks black. Kind of dumb.

I would but the web market says my Xoom is incompatible! It also says that for my Nexus S. I can't find it using the market app on the tablet.
Doesnt show up as available in US marketplace or in Tegra Zone yet. Tried the link and it says my Xoom is not compatable.
for me, riptide is much more better
OK I just tried the game, and in the words of Cartman from South Park, 'What the F** is this?"
What happened to the game, it feels like the developer just gave up and released an incomplete game! The tracks are boring, the vehicles are just black with no stats and the weapons are dull. This was supposed to be the game to own for Tegra 2, but it looks like a peace of crap. Riptide and Bang Bang both blow this game away. I hope the developer pulled an April Fools joke on us in June, because this cant be the finished product.
I must agree - T-Racer is one of the ugliest and uninspired games I have seem for a long time. The graphics at all are not so bad but the gameplay is just not existing.
If anyone is looking for a good racer like that have a look at "TurboFly 3D" - its worth it!

Its a legitimate mistake to make, I really thought that I had a bad hangover and was going colorblind when I saw the vehicle selections, every single one is in black. If the developer does not update this game quickly than they can just suck my balls! Not only is the game just plain, and uninspired, but the frame rate is pretty slow... Riptide is fast as hell with great graphics, so whats the reason why this game is so slow...can be due to the cheesy explosions! And u cant even tell if you hit something because all the vehicles are dark black. I cant wait to write a review no this game, the developer puts much more effort on IOS! There is nothing "Tegra-Optimized" about this game at all!!

I like this one better than riptide. The little spaceships look cool. It needs a save progress system. Pretty much these tegra games just show off what tegra can do. I think that is the problem but I can't verify I bet this is tegra 2 phone version and not the tablet ready version. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone with a stock rom like myself can download this from the market.
Hey guys! So I was messing around today and had this idea. Ever since everything is going 3D, how cool would a 3D Stock app drawer be. So I messed around with Gimp and came up with something that I think is really cool:
NORMAL
{

TILTED
Basically this would work by the accelerometer. So when the device is held in a normal position the app drawer would appear in the normal 2D veiw but as the device is tilted thats when the Icons would appear to be 3D. A couple more features I would like to see with this is as your fingers scroll up/down the Icons would sorta gently "wobble" because they are being moved. Also a setting would have to be added to settings so that the 3D feature could be turned off.
You may notice these images are of the Sense 2.1 app drawer and in reality Sense 2.1 would not work for a base. It would have to be done on an Sense 3.0 Rom. I'm not a code writer and I wouldn't even know where to begin to make this thing happen or if its even possible at this time. If any knowledgable devs would like to step and help out I would really like that. This is MY idea. I produced it first so don't take it and try to claim it first without my permission. I want to remain part of this project.
So, what do yall think, is this possible?
that looks awesome
No offense but LOL!
I think it's definitely possible however I think you should reconsider the labels under the icons as they are very hard to read.
And by tilted do you mean actually physically tilting the phone using the accelerometer? I think that might work but keep in mind that constantly pulling data from the accelerometer might drain the battery a bit quicker.
I was about this with the desktop icons... I have 3D widgets, why not 3D icons?

Well obviously since this was just a quick rendering on Gimp it dosn't look as clear as it would as a final product. I'm sure if this really did come to be, there could be a very small effect on the battery. But who really cares? Sense 3.0 does a fine job of that anyways. And it really dosn't matter because we are learning new ways to control that and make it better everyday. What we are about is proving to the device manufactures that we can take there products and make them better than what they could or should have. I don't know about yall... but thats what I'm about.
All right. I submitted this idea to HTC. Lets see if I get any feedback.
A very very awesome idea.

Good idea. I've wondered why they haven't also implemented a 3d paginated app drawer, similar to the way rosie flips its homescreens. Seems like it would flow nicely, maybe make it optional.
Picture this: when you first boot the phone (or after reboot), you open the app drawer with this and the it slowly scrolls up with this: Brought to you by Wildstang (in fancy star wars font), the star wars theme plays, and then the apps scroll up under it. Awesome or not?
This would require that R2D2 boot animation and a star wars theme of course. It would be fun to make though.

Sure, can you send us one?
If I send mine to you, I won't care about Block Story anymore because I won't be able to play it when you optimize it Don't you have any friends that have it? I would send one to you if I had money to buy a new one for me

It was more of a joke , but if someone actually wants to go the extra mile, and send it to us for a couple of days it would be enough. We would return it right back.
We would like very much to optimize for this device, It is a matter of time before we do it.
I'm glad to hear that

I tried the buttons on my Xperia Play and the arrow buttons (d-pad) work for moving around, and the O button acts as jump. You can't really play with the buttons though because you can't move the camera.

This is good news. Better than we expected.
Just for the heck of it, can you please try going to settings -> control, scrolling down and enabling USB mouse support.
With some luck that will get the camera working with the buttons.

Another thing to try is using tilt control. Go to settings -> control, and click the tilt button.
This allows you to turn with the accelerometer.
I tried now, the touchpad doesn't work with USB mouse support. Tilt control works though! I didn't think of using that...
There has to be some info on the internet on how to implement the touchpads. The "joysticks" are actually one big multitouch touchpad, so if you find some info it should be easy to make it work, since you already have mouse support! It should work like in Minecraft PE, where it works as a touchpad rather than a joystick, because it's better for turning around the camera in games like yours. I'm willing to test if you want!
EDIT: This is a tutorial from Sony for the touchpads http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/2011/02/13/xperia-play-touch-pad/

Thank you for the information. I found some documentation too for the framework we are using:
http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/57757/unity-android-and-xperia-play.html
If you are willing to test for us, then great, we are going to try to add touchpad support, and will be sending you something soon to test.
Cool, I'm glad you're willing to add support for it
Thanks for looking into the Xperia play integration , looks great so far!

Good to hear this.
This is not a "fake minecraft" btw, this is a different game, that resembles Infiniminer and Minecraft in that there is a world made out of blocks. But honestly that is where the similarities end. You can tell by our mobs, tools and quests that we are not trying to copy Minecraft at all.
Addicted. Blows mind craft away. But really their not even close to being the same. I'm buying!
