Is there a reason why they have not created a Mobile Data Toggle on/off switch for the none rooted Hero using either ADW or LauncherPro UI other than the only option of using the end button and scrolling down to turn it off

All 3rd party widget apps say it's because it requires system access or something to that extent. There is one app that can do it. Download JuiceDefender. If you don't care for its battery saving functions, just open the app and disable it. After it's installed though, you can add a "Toggle mobile data" widget which acts just the way you want.
On stock running sense you can hold the power button and toggle it on it off by selecting mobile network

I already mentioned that at the end of my post, LOL which is not what I want to do as it is a 2 step process, which becomes a PITA

I did install JuiceDefender a couple of days ago but cannot get the data stream to work, it is X out, any suggestions on how to get it to work, again remember I am on Sprint, I sent the developer an email but have not received a reply from him as of yet
I use a widget called smoda widget from the market. That takes care of it. I think it needs root I forget.

Basically, just disable JuiceDefender. Then add the "Toggle mobile data" widget to your homescreen! You don't have to fiddle with JuiceDefender if you don't need it. Just use the toggle widget

Hmm that is def strange, it's not doing that for me. When you turn data off, do you see the Ev status icon next to status bars disappear? They should!

I added a OOPs to my post, I had Wifi on,LOL, but I do have a question for you, I tried putting the widget on another page, as I am not crazy about the icon, but when I do put it on another page, I cannot get the JD icon off the notication bar, even when disabled, any clue, can you try it, I assume it has to be on the home screen
Open the main app, on the bottom click on Advanced mode if you haven't yet. On the top to the right Disabled/Enabled click on Notification. Notification is an option only if JD is enabled. If JD if disabled you shouldn't see the notification icon. Note, JD being on and Data being on are 2 different things, you follow?
Thanks Bud !!

i just started using launcherpro cause its super bad ass. but there seems to be no way to get a switch to turn mobile data on and off. i turn it on and off a lot and its a pain to keep switching it thru the menu. theres no downloads and no way to make one please someone save me before i kill myself and punch my girlfriend and ***** slap my dog ill do all three in reverse order
"you want to try getting physical with me?" -airheads.
but really, i assume you are on a sprint leak rom, and are used to the sense widgets. i feel your pain. i use an app called juicedefender (when i'm on a sprint rom) and it has a widget called APN off or something like that. the app its self is badass but that widget is... superbadass. check it out it maybe exactly what you've been looking for.
Have you long press on the screen and set it up that way? Choose widgets, go to settings and select mobile networks.

Since it appears you're not running Sense, you should have a widget called Power Controls that should do it for you.

You're right - thought it did but it don't. It turns off WiFi, GPS and BT but not network ... I don't use it.
Ya might try Quick Settings from the Market, which is what I do use ...

Is it only on sense that long pressing the end call button brings up a menu to power off the phone, and somewhere in that menu is mobile data on/off, or is it just not something you want to be bothered with?

So I've been testing stuff out and I notice that when I have 3g turned off I get like twice the battery life. Is there an app anyone knows of that keeps 3g off unless specifically using data without having to manually use a 3g/2g toggle?
Nexus S - cm7
tasker would do it, its not free but its really worth the money

Would tasker do it without root on stock?
Every app I tried since 2.3.x... none seem to be able to disable your mobile data connection.
Thanks.

I've notice there's an option for "Use only 2G networks". Was wondering if it's possible to make, or if there already excist a widget/switch to quickly switch it on and off.
i use this:

Widgetsoid is awesome, but it still only throws you into "Network settings" menu, not toggling the "Use only 2G networks" button.
Is it even possible tho? On my older phones (Desire, Desire Z) I remember it was impossible to do a button to instantly toggle between 2G and 3G.
Control Bar?

Try xda superpower. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but it is useful. You can set it to disable data when the screen is off, set exemptions for specific apps, and a whole bunch of other options. Its free so you might want to give it a try.

I did this with my old Droid. I just used the latest build of CM7 for it. You can use the power widget that is included with CM7 and select the Disable Mobile Data option. Some homescreen apps, like LauncherPro, can hide apps from the drawer, so you could hide Phone/Contacts/etc. This worked well for me.

But he does not want to hide the apps, he wants to disable the telephone function, right? The only way to realize this is using the airplane mode ...
Sorry getting back to this soo late....busy week of work.
My plan is to use this for my 4yr old as a teaching device. Reading/Writing/math with Time limits/etc...The idea would be that phone/gps would be permanently off, wifi enabled.
Looking into the Parental Control App too.

why dont u try freezing or uninstalling the dialer ...idk if it can cause any problems with the system haven't tried doin it
Use a custom launcher like ADW and remove any shortcuts to the phone and contact apps. That way your kid can't accidentally dial 911.
I am unable to get the 'my location' status section of the weather widget to actually name my location e.g. Wembley / Westminster / Boston ... Reflecting wherever I am.
I am sure that previous weather apps were able to do this. It would automatically update according to one's location. In settings, all the location options have been selected inc. GPS. The only way I can get a place name to display right now, is if I manually select a city. :-\
I am sûre that i have overlooked something very simple to allow this function to work. Any ideas would be great. Thank you

Thanks for the suggestion. Only issue is, the weather app is integrated into blinkfeed, so it cannot be temporarily removed or deleted. Not sure how to get this to work...
EDIT - After de-selecting and selecting location services, went for a reboot of system. Then, prompt box came up on screen, asking whether I agreed or disagreed for Google to collect anonymous location information. I selected Agree and now location is displayed! Solved

The actual cause is in settings, power, fast boot. Turn this off and reboot. Make sure you have location services on as well.

Thx! The described method also helps if the phone has trouble to find a location indoor without GPS. I couldnt use Google Maps at home cause it would never find a GPS connection.
Now it just uses the WLAN and mobile connection to get the location. Great!
Didnt see anybody make a post about this so I figure I would post a new thread. Is anybody missing the data toggle button? I know Samsung is natorious are not putting them in but I believe in some of the other note 7 forums people have the data toggle in the quick panel.

The toggle is hidden, but you'll need Nova launcher or App Shortcut Maker. Here's the thread on it:

And here's the detailed instructions from the thread above:

I don't know why you'd need to toggle mobile data, though, as that's what airplane mode is for.

Except airplane mode effectively disables all signal transmissions. Wifi Bluetooth and gps included.
Talking about that data toggle. its more convenient to just swipe down and press the button vs going to settings connections then data.
Ya I noticed earlier today that the mobile toggle wasn't available as a quick toggle. Unfortunately without root, I doubt you can add it in. I remember adding it on my note 4.. I cant remember the exact way I added it back it because it's been so long. All you do is add the " ;mobile data " to where all the another toggles were listed.
Is VOLTE/SMS working with mobile data off? Because that maybe a reason to restrict mobile data in some other ways. I think my phone is factory set not to update unless on wifi and even if I go to play store myself, when on LTE, it will give me warning about large file download over cell network, which I would have to override, to actually start the download. Other traffic is miniscule, couple Kb here and there, but it is interesting that programs I haven't used for days still access network. Another reason to keep asking Google to make forcestop apps easier? The left button to close all apps is a step in right direction, but I'm not sure what it does (just makes you feel better?), because apps still running in the background and can be killed. Maybe word "closing" has a different meaning at Google, that I'm used to.
