I have a question regarding internet connections:
When I use WIFI connection, I can use all internet applications; Internet, Gmail, Daily Briefing, ....
When I use Mobile Data connection (GPRS), all Samsung applications says that there is a connection problem. For example; I cannot update the weather on Daily Briefing, etc.
However, all android application (like Internet, Gmail, FB) work without problems.
I thought that this is a problem with stock room, however, currently I am using JP3 and the problem is still here.
Any idea why is this happening?
Seems to me that your internet mobile provider is blocking some ports
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Is there generally anything I can do to open those ports?
nope, they are blacklisted by your mobile provider
check if your APN is set correctly
Home screen -> Menu-> Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile network -> Access Point Names
Maybe "internet" is missing?
@freshko:
If I followed Irt01's steps and I have:
Planet internet and a green radio button.
I only used "Samsung Apps" once and it didn't want to work over 3G, when I enabled WiFi it worked flawlessly. I don't use any other Samsung's apps because there are better alternatives on Android Market.
Hej Yanni.
I sent you a private message. Did you get it?
1. make sure you have a data plan.
2. make sure your APN is configured properly
3. check that you are able to browse the net
4. try to sync with your gmail account on GPRS/3G
if that works, you should be able to run other applications, unless those ports are black listed by your cell phone provider, like for example FTP, IRC, Skype, MSN and other stuff like that
Probably they are blocked because as I said. I can browse internet, checking gmail, however, I cannot update weather from Daily Briefing. My data connection notifications goes from H to 3G, than back to H, and then I get: data connection error.

Look in Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Edit my proxy server>advanced tab>HTTP
Mike
everytime I connect to active sync I losse my http settings for the proxy.
So here is what I did.
settings/connections/advanced/se;ectnetworks/edit medianet/proxy settings
This connection uses a proxy server to connect to the internet. I UNchecked that box. basicly I turned off the proxy.
now all of my apps can connect just fine.
This is with a stock ATT tilt.
I hope this helps others in the future.
At&T Tilt using HTC Kaiser ROM
nothing but IE or Email could start a data connection
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks
It had "My ISP" selected as the default
Changed it to "MEdia Net" and everything's gravy.
Gmail just used "100% of your airtime". Can I make it only connect using wifi or direct active sync connect?
If it's a FAQ, point me at the thread and accept my apologies

Searh forum for NoGPRS.cab
Do a search for NoGPRS.cab or NoData it will allow you turn off your phones need to call out through GPRS or Media Net. It will then only use wifi to go out to internet.

What I really wanted was individual config, so that say
my blackberry app would always use wahtever was available hspda,3g,gprs,wifi,bt,active sync, but gmail could only use wifi or bt or activesync.
I was wondering along the lines of a proxy, use a differnt address for different typoe of connect
proxy1 - any service
proxy2 - restricted
proxy3 even more restricted
Proxy depending on connection??
Hi,
I would like to configure different proxy options depending on the connection, something like:
1. If cradled: use cradle internet connection, proxy 1 (namely the company proxy).
2. If wifi connection: no proxy (usually cofee shops with free wifi)
3. If no connection available, use GPRS (proxy 2, configured according to operator)
Is there any way to do this? It would be perfect for me!! And I'm sure more people must have this kind of needs.
Thanks a lot!

can any one tell me how to get the phone to connect to the internet using the wireless lan in stead of contract wap and stop the phone using wap?
I use FRING, the free discharges from the site with that name.
With this software you can make VoIP calls, you can chat with the largest Board which Skype, Msn, Icq, Twitter, Google Talk, AOL, etc..
cheers for the link but i want to stop the phone accessing the internet and wap using the contract part of the phone and just use the wireless lan only or have the option to choose how i connect

you can select how to connect... wap, wifi, in the options of software is possible to select the connection metod, also the launch program auto or on-demand ecc, show contacts on sim and the buddy list of the activate services.
There's a program called NoData, where you can stop the phone from using wap to recieve data.
It can be found here: http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/ (link taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377530 )
I'm getting some MMS's from some friends and am having a problem opening them on my tilt. They show up in my inbox, and need to be "downloaded" I select download and nothing happens?
What am I missing?
NG,
You need to setup MMS GPRS connection following your provider's instructions.
What ROM are you using....some of the newest ROMS have a completely different setup screen then others. You might have some settings blocked that your not used too
I'm using one of Alex's roms v5.20.
"You need to setup MMS GPRS connection following your provider's instructions."
I believe the settings are correct we are talking about MediaNet correct?
So, what should happen when I click "download" should it open the attachment automatically?
TW,
Can I retrieve MMS over the internet if connected via the USB?
TW,
Usually you have a 2nd connection on the phone dedicated to MMS, next to the one used for internet. Then, you also have to configure the mail app to use that connection.
MMS usually can't be downloaded through the net, but this depends on your provider. Mine can forward them to my email.
I use Duckduckgo as the default browser on my Zenfone 8. If I disable Wi-Fi connection it does not connect to the internet, "Web Page Is Not Available", even though the Moble Data connection is enabled.
I definitely have not exceeded my mobile plan's huge download limit so I can't figure out why the browser won't connect?
Any ideas I could try or settings that might fix this problem?
Thanks.

Thanks, but I have the correct APN from my phone service provider.
is it only this website or everything?
I have two browsers on my Zenfone 8. I discovered that they will only work at home if Wi-Fi permission is enabled. I'm puzzled because I thought if Wi-Fi was off they would connect using the Mobile data connection.
Outdoors both browsers work whether Wi-Fi is enabled or disabled.
In Developer options I have enabled "Mobile data always active - always keep mobile data active, even when Wi-Fi is active for fast network switching".
It's not an important point, I'm just curious why the phone won't use mobile data at home even if Wi-Fi is unavailable (which is sometimes the case where I live).
