Hello
Found this over in the eris forums and i remembered someone here asking so id thought i'd share
DROID X MULTITOUCH KEYBOARD
Thanks I guess I will try it out.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but shouldn't the keyboard in 2.1 ROMs be multi touch already? Also if you get other keyboards like Smart Keyboard Pro would that also be multi touch?
Sorry for my ignorance.
Yup they should be but unfortunatly the multi-touch keyboard's dont seem to work on my device (they work but just no multi-touch), and the last droidx keyboard port i tryed didnt even do anything. Ill try this one to and report back.
The stock keyboards i dont think are designed to be multi touch the benefit of this one being multi touch is the abilitiy to be able to hold shft or aother key then press another key to get a different charachter
Does any one have a screenshot showing what it looks like?
Thanks
CLick the link and it will show you
Does ist work with our Hero GSM? THe last one i tried failed to launch.
Ugly theme... i like the standard one
I have a version of the droidx keyboard. isnt even a port, but works fine. no multitouch though.
Heros cannot support multitouch. It supports gestures like pinching (both fingers touch screen at same time and will pick it up, but true multitouch isnt supported.
Correct me please if im wrong
you sure, tested it with shift held down and pressed another key and it worked great, v v v v v v v v v v v v v good keyboard i would be my default but no long press

I think it is now that it has 2.1< multitouch wasn't supported in cupcake (1.5) go in to a multitouch paint app then put 2 fingers on and draw it displays both lines which is multi touch
ahh thats fair enuff. Im always willing to be corrected. i never really used the keyboard, so i didnt test multitouch.
Does not work for Hero. It Forcecloses all the time... Running Cronos Froyo 0.2.
this works great on my cdma htc hero! thank u

If you're asking about which VK is the best, just leave it at stock. LatinIME actually works very well.
htc keyboard
touch input is the best keyboard ever......ever.
yes.. ever.
swype
i recently dl swype... i'm getting use to it. simpler that others. just wish that there was a vibrate-on-press option. but it's turning out to be a lot faster for single handed typing.
I was always a major fan of the T9-style keyboard in HTC's Touch Input. I was so used to T9, it was even faster than a physical keyboard for me. But I'm slowly thinking Swype works best for me now.
I paid for Better Smart Keyboard.. I'd give it a 8/10
I d/loaded HTC's... I'd give a 7/10
Stock... 6/10
SWYPE... 11/10.
Holy ****. I used to hate the idea of this keyboard, but it's amazing.
i prefer SMART KEYBOARD... its awesome..!!
Swype is definitely a innovative keyboard alternative.
Been using it for 3 days and am utilizing my physical qwerty less and less.
Definitely the best thing for phones since the invention of T9.
i saw this thread over in the vogue rom development. thought i'd bring this to everyones attention over here. 1 person confirmed that it does work but it needs some work. i thought maybe one of the android developers can take a look at it???
it's being looked at and multitouch is already available for many android applications, we've just never had support etc because of the whole resistive screen thing.. So we'll see what happens..
No promises, no timelines, let's not get silly on this thread with "I can't wait to see that!" style responses

man if we can get this to work that would be awsome!!
speaking of features that would be awesome
i was wondering if anyone knew the tweak for
sliding between android screens a bit easier (lik htc sense ui rosie)
Its smoother with sense ui rosie than regular android.
(i didnt wanna make a new thread for this)
This is why I started the thread. I knew it'd make its way over to the Android devs and hopefully go somewhere. Its cool but not enough for me to go back to WinMo.

Just letting you know enabling multitouch on a resistive touch screen does not make it as responsive as a capacitive one. It just allows more than one point to be registered at a time.

haha that wasnt my question. Capacitive screens use electricity or w/e in your fingertips; hence you barely touch and it recognizes. Resistive screens requires pressure.
Progress Multitouch on resistive screen is as fast as polar ice caps melting.
what i was referring to was how "MUCH" you have to swipe in order to get to the page on the left or right.
In htc sense builds
*you barely have to slide and it recognizes that you wanna get to another page.
In android builds (non htc rosie aka sense ui)
*you have to swipe alot (probably from one side of the screen to the other side).
I know this is possible because i've used panda hero theme (Which emulates sense ui). And the swiping was noticeably less resistant almost lik those htc sense builds i was refering to.
i think i have to make a video just to ask my question if im not explaining it that well.
Ok so I basically tried all keyboards that are on the market.. I have swype and slide it as well.. But I find myself going back and forth between all my keyboards and can not get comfortable sticking with one. I use a keyboard for like a week, if that, and switch to another one or search for hopefully a newest one. Its like I can't find one that suits me..
Does anybody have any recommendations on this??
Thanks for your help =)

I find Swype the easiest...Anyway keyboard choice is just everyone's personal preference. Just use one you find comfortable.
I like swype but don't like how you have to go over certain letters twice for a particular word such as; "choosing", "messages", " button", etc...
If I had to pick between SlideIt or Swype, I would have to go with SlideIT.. But I don't like how you have to press the "?123" button for symbols and numbers.
I agree that swype is easier, but I guess I'm jus to picky lol..
swype for me as well. but i saw something about this guy installing the droid x keyboard on his nexus. it has multi touch... i believe he also got the apk somewhere in here.

You don't have to go over them twice. You can just scribble on the letter. Go look at swype hints and tips. They got some really neat things to speed up texting.
But I use swype or better keyboard.

I forgot I was in a Nexus forum. :X I probably need to take my post-happy self back to the Dream. Either way, go look at their tips and tricks. If you can memorize them all and learn to use them out of habit... NO ONE you know without Swype will be able to text faster than you.
AS for built in keyboard, I like it. It has NICE response speed and when every other keyboard lags, it doesn't. Like you said, though, the keys are just too small. :|

I too am a fan of swype. Although the Desire keyboard is a pretty nice alternative...

... Hahahaha! that made my night, i needed that laugh lmao
i knew the basics of swype and had swype for awhile now and i guess i didnt know about other tricks and what not, thanks for sheadin some light on that.. ill go check them out now.. im sure its on the swype website, so thats where ill look first =]
Again, thanks! i hope i can get used to this swype thing because i find myself thinking where to slide my finger when using slideit and swype.. when i just use a regular keyboard my fingers seem to jus "flow" like its just reaction (if that makes sense).. i know where all the keys are based on memory so i dont think about it when i type, swype on the other hand.. I do lol.
Im sure its just a learning curve.. so when i get frustrated doing swype, ill stick to it and not switch to another keyboard so itll become 2nd nature..
... All in all i appreciate it man, ima go check out the tips now lol
Time to beat that record!! haha.. =]

HOLY S***t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... I didnt know like 85% of what i just saw about swype!! HOT DAM!
Im really gonna push myself into learning Swype to its full potential now! OMG...
Swype is faster in portrait mode, plus it feels very natural once you're used to it. On the downside, typos are a pain to redo, usually requiring you to retype the whole thing. Plus, there's almost no spellcheck ability.
In landscape, I can type faster with Better Keyboard. I'd wish they'd incorporate the punction in the suggestion bar, but I'm good with press and hold.
I love Swype. I switched to it about a week ago and I can type really fast!!
I was using HTC_IME and I still might be using it if it supported multitouch. I'm waiting for the Droix X keyboard to be ported over, that looks promising.

I haven't yet seen ANY keyboard on my Nexus (2.1, stock, not rooted) work with multitouch.. I use HTC IME that was modified from here to include smileys and a few other things.. Works well for me.
If you looking for a non swype style keyboard, I really like Smart Keyboard Pro. Its my daily driver, although I do also have Swype installed.
Some how since backing up my phone and removing the bloatware, I've managed to delete the Android Keyboard.
Is there anyway to redownload this keyboard? I prefer it to the Samsung Keyboard hands down. Or perhaps there is another keyboard you would recommend that I can download via the Market or elsewhere?
Thank you
I like swiftkey...comes a close second to Swype for me.

The swiftkey beta is definitely worth a look. I prefer swype, personally.

So is there no way to get the Android Keyboard back? Even after I restore the backup prior to the bloatware removal, it always seems to disappear. Could I be deleting something causing it to go away?

I have it after removing the bloat?
So then what happened to my android keyboard?! =/
Just do an Odin restore, that should get it back on there
My favorite has got to be the DroidX multitouch keyboard.

Thanks SOOOO Much !!! SwiftKey is AMAZING! I used to like the stock android keyboard because it was fast, had good prediction, and was black so more batt efficient.
Swiftkey's prediction is just about two fold better than the stock android. The only things I would change is to add a D-pad when you hit the alt button, and making the keyboard more black to save on batt. (unlikely it will get optimized for SAMOLED screens though)
SlideIt keyboard best of all

I just purchased this today and after trying every other keyboard I can say this one meets all of my needs. Accurate, multi-touch, and good customization all in one.

I second this particular keyboard. I find myself using this on a regular basis.
I use Smart Keyboard Pro and I love it. Great prediction and just has a good feel. I haven't tried the Droid X keyboard yet, I'll try it out.
Swype is great, but my vote also goes to Smart Keyboard Pro. I've tried almost all of them, and this one is a keeper.
For me, it's really hard to choose.
I like the Samsung keyboard because of multitouch and I feel like I can type faster on it, but the autotext is a pain.
The Droid X keyboard is nice especially because of multitouch but it is really stupid when it comes to predicting text..
The stock android keyboard is okay, just no multitouch.
I'd say the Droid X keyboard wold be my pick. I usually use that.
-Just my two cents.
i, too, am loving the DroidX over Swiftkey
I actually love the default Samsung keyboard in 2.2, I just wish I could switch the Period (.) to the other side of the space bar as I tend to hit it half of the time instead of the space bar with my right thumb.
Anybody know of a keyboard that is exactly the same as the default Samsung Keyboard in 2.2 but with those buttons switched?
Hello,
I'm currently using MDJ's Gingerbread NAND rom and I was wondering if there was any way to get the desire HD keyboard to work on this ROM, I really miss it...

Try to use "better keyboard" app, its free from market i think....
For me its faaaar the best keyboard on android device-the wibe on stock desire hd is too long and has no option of reducing it,and the letters are just too small
Try it and u will not stop texting
are you meaning the one that has qwerty, phone keypad and a couple other keyboards???? if you are its HTC IME MOD and you can google it works wonders i would post it but i don't wanna get in to any trouble.....
Looking for one aswell.
Might this link will work for you
I know this keyboard, it's similar to the Desire keyboard, not desire hd.
But thanks anyway

As I said, I know this keyboard but it's the old one. If I remember right, it doesn't have the arrows, and when you press space and it puts another word instead of the one you typed, then you go back, it won't show the word you first typed. I don't know if you get what I mean, my English isn't that good and even in French it would be difficult for me to say it.
Ok, I guess there is no way! I'd love to know why : )

You're right about the cursor keys (arrow keys) not being there, but the keyboard I linked does show the word you typed, and not the one it replaced it with when you pressed space. Okay, it's not perfect, but it's 50% which is better than 0%
And it's not your English that's not good. That is a hard concept to explain, but I knew what you meant.
