your opinions on rom's - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

what is your favorite rom that you cant leave and you keep going back to when other's fail.
i'm looking for the most funtional rom with the best battery life. that is my main issue then performance is right next to it.
right now mines is the 2.2 from darth becuase i can get some good battery life out of it but i have to disable everything and slow the cpu down to a crawl.

RegawMOD 2.1 themed - ton of pros, not many cons.

Nfinites stock rom odex version.

If you are looking for battery life just go with fresh 2.3.3, most people swear that the best battery life they've seen is with it.

i know but there is so much stuff on that rom. i wish someone stripped it out completely and make it very light weight.
i got decent battery life from it.
i was looking for a rom that was undervolted and overclocked and just bring it to stock speeds so the battery won't budge....

i myself like Frest toast 2.1 or Fresh Hero 2.3.3

No one can tell you which rom is best for you. Easiest way to find out is to read about them and try them.
Threads like this usually end up as flame wars which is why this thread is now closed. For future reference to all, please do not post favorite/best rom threads.

Very quick question, Please help

Just need to know which ROM for the Hero is most STABLE, I'm most interested in having everything working like it does on the stock 2.1 ROM.. Don't care about Sense, don't care about themes, etc.. I just want this phone to be faster, snappier, etc.. Also how badly does overclocking drain the battery? If this battery drained any quicker I wouldn't get a half day out of it..

It would be best for you to do your own research because its sort of like asking someone, hey which plate of food should I have for dinner, when we have no idea what it is you are really looking for.
If I were you, I'd give Damage or Fresh a try.
You can find a short summary of ROMs in the wiki listed in my sig.
Also this should be moved to Q&A, not in Development, for future reference.
Check out beezys roms on android central in my sig he has others but I always run option 4 with custom memory enhancements.

Best froyo ROM?

People can you recomend me a good froyo ROM? I would like it to have fair battery life, speed, stability, and good for day to day use. Give me what you think is best under these conditions thanks!

I would kinda like an answer to this question as well. I am going to be rooting my friends G1 and he would really like a 2.2 rom with good battery life. I am new to anything G1 so any help would be great. Note: I have experience rooting and installing custom rom's on my EVO. Thanks guys.
So far, BiffMod 2.0.1 has been the best Froyo ROM that I've tried out. It has stability, speed, and customization. There's like 5 themes to choose from, which I thought was cool. It also has all the unnecessary stuff taken out of it. I'd recommend trying it out.
Thanks for the suggestion Skate. I appreciate it. Ill have my friend try it out and see if he likes it.
froyo redux
gammafly
canons2.2.1 eclair
sparksmod
and finally what im using at the moment;

is there a good guide for upgrading from CM 4.2 to Biffmod? I'm currently on radio 1.22.12.29, which seems to be a no-no in some guides I've seen around for any upgrade
sparksmod is good but its bad on battery life
tried searching around for cyanogen 4.2 biffmod 2.1 but all I get is a list of roms, is there a guide anybody knows of for doing the upgrade?
Been using this for awhile, never had any issues, decent battery life and has great speed. Search for [ROM][Beta][in-development] jMod 2.2/AOSP 2.2 - Android for the rest of us - 08/05/10 its no longer developed though.
@Wright. Make sure that you show your friend the ropes about flashing froyo. Running froyo isn't a easy task at all. I've tried all of them and they always end up with some issue. Try Biff for now its the most stable froyo rom to date.

If you want to complain about the battery life, then complain to pershoot and cyanogenmod, because they are the ones that make the kernels, not me.
Woah guys back off a little with the noob please!
Listen there are no froyo roms that will totally satisfy you no matter how much everyone tries they wont run that great

i disagree i am running biffmodV2.1 and it is fast as any eclair rom ive tried it has working camera and video recording i cannot find a flaw in this rom.
In my Opinion the best froyo roms are from the manufacturer for MT3G or HTC Magic, which are working on a G1 thx to ezterry

Yeah same here biffmodV2.1 is the ****, the only thing is that i might have to buy an extended battery since i only navigate with wifi, but when it is on idle it probably loses 1 percent in 5 hours.
i reccomend froyo by laszlo, froyo yoshi, biffmod and sparksmod

Moved from HTC to Samsung. What ROM, Juwe or GingerReal?

Hey,
I recently moved from a HTC android phone to the Galaxy S.
I've been digging through all the custom ROMs and I have found Juwe's and GingerReal but I'm having a hard time deciding what one to pick.
Battery Life is important to me.
Speed is important to me.
Music is important to me. (although everything has Voodoo fix it seems)
I also would love BLN to be supported (I think both do that). Drives me mad not having a notification light.
They both seem to work really well and I just sort of wanted some imput on what one to pick from someone who has used both.
What one, in your opinion, is the "better" ROM for me, based on speed and battery life? (and maybe other things I am overlooking that you think are important)
Thanks,
Chuck
Why not go with Darkys? He's got one of the best roms out there with everything you've mentioned as a requirement.
While normally I would recommend cyanogen, they haven't fixed a lot of the battery drain issues that the other roms like Darky's has already.
Oh maybe Ill look at Darkys too. When I was looking at it I didn't know if it had better battery life too.
What advantages does Darkys have over these ROMS?
One of the biggest things is it has a large user and developer base than the other GB roms... quicker support and fixes that way.
It has most of the features of the other two and it has it's own kernel. This allows for more control for speed, battery and feature optimizations.

Thanks dude! Ill be loading that one.

++1 tried them all, no better than juwe. but if you are looking for large community - doc's romkitchen is the way, of course but those "large" communities are not that supportive, you need to look for answer on your questions in thousands of posts. However romkitchen is the best for novice - you will be able to see what files you can keep what files are save to delete, insanity is also good in that, very tiny rom with a good speed and supportive forum. well, try them all and see what you like. I heard that darky is good and i had it for a while but the dev himself is using different phone, so, think further.
Just moved from Ultibread to GingerReal myself last night. Piling on all my old Apps is a pretty good stress test and it held up well. Still flying this afternoon. Battery life seems improved too given I have been proding it all day and its still going. Took the punt over Juwe and not disappointed thus far

I have been using juwe's 4.3.1 and darky's 10.1 both on JVH. I personally thinks that in-terms of speed (no lags) juwe's doing great, much better than darky's. you can feel the smoothness in juwe's rom but with darky's rom, sometimes you will get slight lagging especially media scanning + background sync running at the same time.
Well, I am running darky's rom anyway.. hehe.. coz darky's 10.1 has nice icons, but bit disapointed compared to darky's 10 final (no gtalk 1.3).

[Q] GR-12 vs Continuum

So, I'm not a complete noob, been flashing roms since around February.
I do however have a noob-ish question, that I've put off asking for awhile now, in hopes that I would find an answer first!
I absolutely adore Cezar's roms (I wonder if he's single... oh wait, wrong forum) and I like Serendipity VII as well.... but neither seem to have the battery life that GR-12 does on my phone. (definitely more than 18-20 hrs)
So, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions and or first hand on this? I want to rock Continuum, but battery life is important for me... sometimes at work without the opportunity to charge.
I like GR-12 also, don't get me wrong... but the newer stuff comes with bells n whistles.... and yet, that damned battery gets in the way!
Thanks!

Wrong forum????
there are little things you can do to help save battery life and also apps in the market to aid with this sort of thing. I don' think your gonna be able to have the rom of your choice with the battery life of your choice .. how sweet that would be though.
Some kernels allow for UV and that will save you a little battery.. also make sure you don't have a lot of apps running at once.. or you status bar only has icon's up there that need to be.
Thanks Corey!!!

ROM help

I just put serendipity 6 on my buddys captivate. I don't know anything about the development for this phone so I kinda had to wing it to pick which rom to put on. He was on eclair . He loves it the new.but my question is, any reason to put serendipity 7 on it instead or any other ROM for that matter? I want to give him the best stability and battery with customization. Any help is.appreciated
I do have to say this was a fun phone to mess around with for the first time

Sorry, there is no quick answer. ROM selection is a personal preference thing.
However there is a thread on xda comparing roms battery performance. If I remember correctly serendipity was among the top. Fasty was up there too.
I'll look for the link when I get home and edit my post.
Thanks for the reply. I just want to leave him with something that it's stable and if serendipity I'd up there.my job is done.thanks man

I found the thread I had mentioned, but it's old. It has been almost a year since there were any constructive posts. It was full of squabbling, so I won't bring it back to life by posting a link to it. Too bad though, cause the guy who started it had good intentions.
Probably best to let this thread die also. Battery / performance comparison threads seem to get ugly after a while.

this phone is almost three + years old. so many ppl have moved to newer versions. those who still has this phone are moved on to ICS (Ice cream Sand-witch (4.0.4) based ROMs. ICS is fast, stable and good on battery as well.
that's why there is no action on GB based ROMS.
I am on Slim ICS and highly recommend it.
until they get the encryption unsuccessful bug worked out that is a pretty good reason to recommend staying with the gingerbread roms
i suggest you go with gingerbread because it was tested that it has a better battery performance plus the graphics drivers upgraded.
Legend 4 is the most active GB ROM with current and helpful developers still active. I run it with no problems.
