I live in an area where I have no service or cell towers. Is there any Apps out there that will help me SMS or MMS over my WIFI network?

cant SMS over google voice either.
I use Voice for SMS all the time via WiFi. Also, I believe Chomp SMS offers that option, but you have to pay for it.

I use the textPlus app. Tested and it works sending text messages from wifi to my friend's phone which is not a smarthone. My friend can send text messages back to me if I give him a 4 digit pin that textPlus provides to you.
Text over Google voice works just fine for me and uses data only.

if you purchased a nexus one, you get a free google voice account. however google voice is now free and open to the public anyway as of a few weeks ago. so just open the google voice app on your nexus, it comes with it out of the box, and go from there. you can also install the most recent google voice app from the market.
I went thru the setup and there was no where in the setup that asked me if I want to use or be assigned a Google number... so what am I doing wrong?

You need to go to the website to pick your number. Google.com/voice and login with your same account. There you can get your number.

Ok, so I flashed Darchdroid (the newest version 2.7 i think?) and now i dont have voicemail. i really liked the stock voicemail app, is it possible to get this again? if not, does anyone know how to get google voice to take all of your voicemails instead of just the ones to your google voice number?
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!
Dial *28xxxxxxx to forward voice mail to google voice, where the x's is your google voice number

another option would be to look 4 posts down from yours in Q&A. im running 2.7 as well and this worked awesome for me. i like the sprint vvm. google voice simply did not work with my cell number. it worked for awhile then just stopped. very weird. did the forwarding and settings all correct and just says "unable to connect the call" when i call my cell from another number. pissed me off. good luck.

That's weird, man. It works great with my phone. Nice link, though. I'm glad to hear it worked. It's always nice to have a choice.
My google voice started doing that took. But I logged I on my pc, and created a google voice number, and no issues. I had never set one up since I was only using voice mail. Now it works fine, and I didn't even have to give anyone my gv number

help a brother out, how is that again? i have a gv number that i forward my cell number to *28850xxxxxxx and a separate one for my voicemail set in the phone but evertime i call my cell # from another phone it says unable to connect call. let me know what you did. thx.
EDIT: Oh I think i see what you mean now. i'll try that. i guess i just assumed that *28850xxxxxxx# was my gv #. thx
yeah, just choose your own google voice number with your own area code, and then when you open google voice on your voice, it will automatically change over, then you just have to dial the *28xxxxxxxxxx code, and good to go

I'd be a dummy if I couldnt set up Google Voice, I would say the voicemail part is seperate being that I can still use Google Voice without forwarding my voicemail.
I'm talking about the voicemail forwarding process for Google Voice. I can never forward my voicemail to use Google Voice's. It denies me. If I need to make it clearer let me know.
I can dial and recieve google voice calls, I tried to forward with the Google Voice app and manually with the dialer.

That IS the process provided by the Google Voice app..so yes I've tried it. It wont let me, I'll try and get a screen shot. SO u guys can keep helpin'
ok...so I don't know howta add pictures...
I got Google Voice as my voicemail provider without any issues tho the little setup process during the initial google voice setup did not work.
On your phone open the dialer program and enter the following *004*YourGoogleNumber# and then Send or call.
So it should look like *004*15555551234#
These directions are in google voice if you log in from a PC and go to Settings > Voice Settings > Phones > Activate/Deactivate Voicemail on this phone.
Are you on Flex-Pay? I think they dissable the auto-magic google voice setup on flex-pay accounts.

Just bought Groove IP from the market on my xoom and confirmed I am able to make and receive calls using Google voice real simple set up procedure and it only cost 3.99 to get the app no other charges after here's the link to check it out
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gvoip
Or just type groove IP in the market

Yes 2 things you can do
1) go to voice.google.com (desktop version) and change your phone settings to forward your calls to Google chat
2)make sure you are signed out of Google talk in your xoom
Either or both fixes mentioned above should allow you to receive calls with your gV number

Question. I am trying to receive calls from my Xoom via this app and I do not have the Google chat option available to me to forward to. The only thing I have is my mobile number, no other number/option. I remember I deleted Google chat from my phone list awhile back and cannot get it back on. How can I go about getting it back in my options so that I can forward my calls to it? I'm lost.

Is there a way to text with Google Now through Google Voice? (If you are not familiar with Voice please don't pretend like you are) If you try to use the text command it says texting is not compatible on the device.
I would also be interested if anyone has any information on this. I remember in early ICS, it took a while to get Google Voice implemented as an option for sending text messages.

I thought I was able to get my Gnex to do it with Now on JB. But, recently it just goes to the send text confirmation and never actually does anything further.

Yes. Get the Talkatone app from Google Play, link the app to your Google Voice number as per instructions, and text or call as you like.

Interesting option to fall back on.. Have you tested it to see if the OS (and Now) sees it as an actual texting app? I'd still rather it be able to work with the native Voice app.
That's strange. My HTC Legend could distinguish between the stock app and Google Voice when using Voice Actions. It's strange that it wouldn't work now.

It seems more like the N7 version of Now simply doesn't allow texting because it doesn't think it can.
My phone is sending calls to my voicemail as it should, but I'm not getting a notification. I suspect it's because the phone's name and picture doesn't show up in my list of phones and seen as a "non-verizon device.
Should the notifications show up once VZW releases the phone, or will it forever be "unrecognized"?

Apparently it is included in my More Everything plan. Now, if I could only figure out how to use it, or unsubscribe....
VZW FAQ's talk about an actual VVM app. I don't have it, and cannot locate in the Play Store. Without that app, I can't figure out how to access VVM to try it. Maybe I'd like it.
Not having the app means I also cannot access VVM settings to unsubscribe. Fascinating Catch 22.........

Actually, as I was looking around, I found an app called "youmail".
Just installed it, and I'm going to give it a go. I works like VVM, but first it "intercepts" calls going over to VM @ my VZW server, and then puts them in the youmail inbox. It puts an alert up in the notification barWhat I find intriguing is that it can send an email alert, which allows me to hear the VM from within the email, and I can access my account and my messages from the web. It can also send TXT alerts, but hey, that means I have my phone in hand, so what's the point of that?
Better lucky than good. I'll entertain myself with this app for a bit. Then, I'll see if I want to go back to the VZW service
I've been on YouMail since I got my N6 in December. So far, so good.
