Can anybody guide me through the best and stable rom..?
What i'm looking for is less applications (specialy not interested in any sprint applications, Messengers (IM), Footprints n all useless app..fast performance...long battery...and stable
I'm using Darchdroid 2.7 and its as stable as I have seen. It has no sprint apparently, no Google apparently, and IA Sense-free. You can add Google ****s so you can have that, and you can find most any Sprint apk file in the forums here. I absolutely love it.

there is no best rom, research and try...just like everyone else
No one can tell you which rom is best for you. Easiest way to find out is to read about them and try them.
Threads like this usually end up as flame wars which is why this thread is now closed. For future reference to all, please do not post favorite/best rom threads.

I am getting a HTC Hero from Sprint tomorrow, and I want to upgrade it to whichever Rom is the fastest and most stable. I see that Froyo is still being worked out, and after browsing 36 pages of comments, It seems to be about 95% complete. The last phone I flashed is the Cingular 8125 (yeah, I've been out the loop for a while). If someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Re: Where do I start....
First of, Congrats on jumping on the Android bandwagon.
Here is a list of things you need to do.
1. Root your hero.
2. Then you need to find a good ROM that fits your needs. Some people like almost no stock apps, some people like all the stock apps on the Sprint Hero. I Have tried almost all the new ROMs that are on XDA and after benchmarking all of them, I have found Purehero 2.1 to be the fastest. it consistently benchmarks at 6300 milliseconds. here is the link for pure hero.
you should download the OC version.
3. But don't take my or anyone's word for it. Try different roms and see what you like. some people like speed, some like visual aspect. i like both and i think purehero is the best there is that gives both.
4. Just search how to root sprint hero in xda and there are several pages that offer help.
5. also search purehero for the ROM
Is the Purehero 2.1 ROM based on android 2.1 or 2.2?

It's based on 2.1.
One other thing to note: Learn which forums are appropriate for your various posts and questions. For example -- this forum "Android Development" is reserved for posts specifically about ROM and kernel development stuff.
Your question about 'How should I get started' belongs in either the "Q&A" forum or the "General" forum, where basic questions and answers are handled.
Also know that the "Search this Forum" boxes are your friend. You could have found plenty of answers to your question without even having to post a topic like this in the wrong place.
All that aside, welcome to the world of rooted HTC Heroes.
you are right...to be honest, this is so overwhelming. I looked through various post, but wasn't sure what to search, because I had no idea what I was searching for.

This poor kid is going to get flammed for asking a question that has been asked in about 300 different posts.
Obviously he didn't use the search function and didn't follow the forum rules before posting.
Unfortunately, I can't close or delete this so I'll report it and we'll just have to wait for another moderator to do it.
These posts are annoying though.
To OP,
To date you cannot run flash on your G1. The best way to watch Flash videos is with an app called Skyfire. Look for it on Market. Or you can try flashing a SenseUI rom. No one is trying to get it to work in non-SenseUI roms because it can't be done at this time.
Also be aware that if you post without searching you are breaking forums rules and I don't think that I need to tell you what can happen should you continue to do so. So make sure you always search before you post. Besides, it'll keep the bashing and flaming down.
To everyone else... remember that if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say... don't say anything.
On searching for answers.
I've been searching for an answer to this question for three days and the only relevant post I've found is this one.
So thanks guys for flaming the OP without even bothering to direct him (or anyone else) to a useful post - the finding of which, seems to be easy for you.
Anyone who's spent any time on here knows that the information you're searching for is usually spread across a number of different threads in a number of different sub-forums. So if you know where that info is, a link would have been nice.
The answer is NO, but more importantly.... WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO???!?!?!!
Adobe must die!
Flash offers nothing and causes the suffering of millions.
I'm pretty much new to the cm6 software. I know about the wifi tethering and the live wall paper, and the some wat speed but thats basically it... Is there anything else u can do with cm6???? As far as customization, added extras? good tips? or anything useful period...i havent made any changes to the rom yet...
SN: I do want to uncap my kernel but i dont know where to start a break down on how to go about it would be nice...also i downloaded a 2.1 browser and i want to install it on my cm6 is that possible?

Guys, can we stop with the personal attacks.
Regarding this, the OP may wish to consider the use of Q&A next time, as this forum is for development.
Additionally, a read of the "XDA mantra" at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2031989&postcount=45 will explain a little about how xda started, and what is expected before posting.
As for the forum rules, please read them and stop with the childish insults and name calling.

Thread cleaned a bit.
First i would like to say that doing a search in the main HTC HERO CDMA forum which can be found on the top right of the page will help you out tremendously.
As for kernels, Here is a link to all the kernels that Decad3nce has done. You can read through and test them out.
A lot of people are using the #14 kernel which can be downloaded at this link
CM6 #14 kernel
As for customizing, either go to the themes and development forums and you will find themes and themed ROM's. There is also some tweaks you can do in settings>Cyanogenmod Settings. It's more of trying out different things. What I do to my phone is my preference. Make it your own. Trial and Error..

Actually, it's more "us nerdy people" don't like being insulted, and it's irritating to see someone say "oh, I'm not going to read through that because I'm lazy and it's easier if I just ask my question instead".
Yea i understand what your saying but I wasn't tryin to be lazy..i did alot of research and i knew alot about how it worked and operated and the cool features..not the neccesary steps. i have a alltel hero and i was doing the sprint way but quickly notice it wasnt working so i googled alltel hero came to this site and the alltel rom root was still in the works. However I still did research, also tried the forums way it was a tad misleading..so soon after i found a site with 8 simple steps that answered all my questions. So to say jus read is not helping as much being point in the right direction..So I greatly appreciate the people above who helped and pointed me in the right direction. And those with unneccsary side comments, just don't post..It's simple..
There are several ROMs out there for the Captivate which makes it difficult to select one. Yes I know I could just try each one, but maybe we could have a voting thread. This way it would a least give someone like myself a place to start.
I'm sure all the ROMs are great in their own way. If we can start a thread like that, or just use this one, I'd like to see which ROM the person is voting for along with the reason why they think it's the best one.
It would also be nice to have a locked thread that's only editable by the ROM developer to describe his or her ROM. This would also make it easier to select a ROM to use.
That's why screen shots really help me choose which ROM to try. I don't care if it's the dev or just someone who has tried the ROM and wants to post how it looks. Yes, I want the ROM to be snappy, but I also care about the UI.
I like your idea, but it's almost like asking what flavor of ice cream (or froyo? ) is the best: everyone has an opinion and no one is truly 100% correct since it all boils down to personal preference.
Ill start. Axura then di11igaf

Sorry guys we dont do best rom threads or voting polls as there is No BEST rom just best for you. I am gonna close this up as if you would have done a search you would have found the thread that was already started and closed.
Is there a poll about wich rom are we currently using??? It'll be good I think just to know what's the most popular...
I'd like to know why it has not been created. Will it be good to make one?
Wanna read your opinions.
Firefly 2.5 great

The only problem is that most people here switch from one ROM to another really quickly. Not only that, each ROM will change versions a lot so it's really hard to keep a track of what everyone is using.
It will get locked because best ROM threads are not allowed. The personal preference for me is not what you would potentially like...nor would your phone work the same as mine on every single ROM.
Exactly! There are good ROM reviews out, it would be best to have a read/look through these (especially the MobileTechVideos ones).
One other VERY CRUDE way I use is to check the number of views and replies a ROM topic has... It more or less tells me how popular a ROM is (like I said, very crude... and popular != best)
You want to know which ROMs are most popular? Just look at the ROM threads in Dev and see which ones have the most reads and posts. That's a pretty good indicator of which ROMs are being used by more people. No poll needed.
You are so right guys ... that's what I'm gonna do!
Thanks for your comments.
