[Q] Phone freezes, swapped with HTC still happens. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of why this might happen or what apps could cause this?
I have a brand new N1 from HTC swapped for the one I bought on launch day. It freezes at any point of normal use and I have to pull the battery to reboot.

Please post the list of applications you have installed.
MyAppList will help you with this if you have lots to post

Small Kaiser Problem

Hello,
I have been a member for about 3 months or so but not been a heavy poster. (sorry about that)
anyway I have a small problem which normally gets solved by a few searchs but I don't seem to be having any luck.
I Have an Orange build kaiser (installed the today screen) and have hard reset the device a few times after encounting the same problem again and again (about to hard reset for the 4th time i belive)
back to the point, the problem seems to be a simple one in that new SMS don't appear on my today screen... weired?! and last night was the worst my phone was on charge but in standbye mode but my girlfriend couldn't connect any phone calls and when i checked my phone i had a mountain of missed calls and a bundle of txts which all came through at the same time on wake up..
(I've mentioned the fact my phone was on charge because search results suggest it was due to a 30% or less battery)
when i had the problem before I thought at 1st it was one of the many many cabs that have installed so this time i made sure i+I only had on the minumal
(forgive me but with the phone not being with me I am not sure on the names but here is the list)
HTC Home (maybe an old verison but i have tried many verisons)
HTC Home customiser (with IPHONE apps theme)
TOM TOM 6
HTC touch Keypad
A program to stop the phone connecting to the internet
A program that on start up my phone switches directly to the Keypad
Like I said used to install loads and loads of cabs but now limiting my self to a few to try and rectify the problem.
any one else had this problem? should i send it back to Orange? (I have insurance), will there be problems reinstalling TOM TOM? is one of the apps i have currently installed a problem?
any help would be much appricated and thank you in advance.
Does it exhibit this behaviour if you leave the phone in shipped condition, with NO software installed by yourself? If so, then it's faulty; if not, then install your apps one by one and test until you find what's causing it by process of elimination.
thanks for the reply...
I was going to leave it this time around with the dreaded orange home screen, was hoping someone else had a simular problem with one of the apps i have already mentioned
I'll give it a go tonight and see how it goes
thanks again for the reply

Google Nexus One random restarts

Hi all,
I've been having some random reboots w/ my N1. I got the ATT version w/ 2.3.3 Gingerbread (Latest OTA) Also happened while running Froyo
Not rooted, all stock.
Carrier Cable & Wireless Panama City, Panama
I have already wiped the phone via the security menu and via the recovery boot and doesn't work
I have tried to recreate the problem but I haven't been able to isolate to a particular application or moment that could cause the problem.
Could the 3G data connection cause the problem? I also read about overheating but the problem is completely random.
I would appreciate any tips.
Rob
Suggest you try running a log cat to help identify the issue...

Any particular recommendations from the app market?
Rob
Long time since I've used one...
Download a few, and see which you like. Some let you filter results by significance, others display in different colors, etc. They'll all give you the same info...

Log
Alright here is the log.
My guess is that this is like when Windows creates the minidumps when you get a BSOD. Let me know what to look for and again thanks for all the assistance.
I think I might have traced the problem to the charger. If use the phone for browsing, youtube, FB, IM, email etc etc. I can open all the apps and use them w/o the phone restarting but as soon as I plug in the wall charger or USB data cable it starts restarting. I have to remove the battery and then put it back and power on and let it charge until full. While charging I can use some apps but I try not to use the phone that much since it might restart.
The phone is the usual warm when is charging so I doubt is overheating
Anyone having this kind of problem?
Giving up
Well after a few months trying to figure out what is going on with my GN1, I decided to call it quits and call HTC to get a replacement.
My guess is that since the problem happens mostly when the phone is charging it could be a overheating problem. The same thing happens when you have a portable or desktop computer with overheating problems, it either starts rebooting, becomes really slow or shuts down.
Lets see if the replacement works better or I will have to sell the phone and maybe go back to iOS. :-/

[Q] Incredible S Keeps Freezing..... :(

Had my Incredible S for two weeks and two days now.....but within the first week it started freezing....what i mean by this is that.....I can unlock the phone but cannot launch any apps or anything as screen does not acknowledge any screen pressses.....if it does it will only do the bottom row of htcs launcher...eg phone apps and widgets, but no shortcuts that have been put on home screens.....i have had this problem happen over 6 times now....its starting to get annoying.....anyone else experience this....
Can't say I've had anything like that, and neither has my missus, and we've been running both devices for around a fortnight

Thanks for reply...looks like I owe carphone warehouse a trip......
To be honest I had had to take mine back because of a faulty SD card slot, they swapped it over there and then and I was out inside 15 minutes with a new phone, fantastic service
I can confirm this, but my non-responsiveness comes from overloading the memory (rooting process), but is solved after a reboot. Otherwise I don't have this problem.
I would suggest go back to where u bought it because this is not a good thing!
Complete lockup happened to me once and had to reboot. Two other times I had no response from the screen until I pressed home, then everything jumped into life. 3 times in 3 weeks, I can live with, but slightly worrying.
Well since its fixed after a reboot, I suppose its a Rom issue, but will never know for sure.
Maybe some faulty apps that start this problem, but have not tested that. Will figure some of the things when root is achieved.
Otherwise HTC have to fix it.
Hmmm...i got a replacement but only after a massive fight with carphonewarehouse.....the worst part is as soon as i got home after about 5 hours of having the phone...it started to lock up again.....this time stayed locked untill i restarted....so now i have a brand new incredible s with same problem....i filmed it though as proof for my case against CPW......but definitely not a good sign
Any chance you could try a different launcher (ADW, LauncherPro etc.)? It might just be an issue with HTC Sense...

Yeah i probably will just try that....see if it works....(i normally uses adw ex anyway but just thought while the phone isnt rooted...i would leave it all stock....)
Keep us updated on this if you can, as it seems random reboots and freezes are becoming an issue rather than isolated incidents...
is this means there is something wrong with the hardware?
Had the same problem just now. Widgets didnt respond etc. Had the same problem after a reboot, but a backup restore in Launcherpro fixed it for me
Had my first crash
But I think one of the newly installed app is acting up... did the factory reset and see how it goes
It's probably a software issue, since if its the hardware it would give different symptoms and should happen all the time and not at random
Any of you with problems using Tasker? Got the same prog yet again. Disabling Tasker did the trick for me this time
Yeah i've just removed tasked seems to have helped

In the end I did a factory reset the problem went away for a bit. But now its back.
Think I'll need to pay carphone warehouse a visit

I have had quite some problems with mine. It doesn't freeze, however it has crashed/shut down about 8 times in the first 2 weeks, the las week has been problem free. I have to manually start the phone again and when the phone finally is done booting up a message pops up on the screen says something like "Your phone has recovered from a serious crash" and asks me if I would like to send a report to HTC.
I noticed mine only became unusable when plugged into mains charger. As soon as I unplug it works great again. Not sure if this is down to the dodgy charger from China or something else. I lost the one I got with it. :S

[Q] Random Shut downs

Hi All
New to the forum.
I did search this topic but didn't find anything finite.
I have had my Note for 3 weeks now.
In that time there has been 2 occasions in which my phone seems to have shut down while asleep.
There was a brief mention in another topic about it being the TWlauncher or an SD card problem.
I'm just really looking for any advice as to whether there is any settings i could change to stop this happening.
Thanks
Edit:
I am on Stock Rom 2.3.6
Do you have installed any anti virus apps?
What apps do you have installed?
Does it shut down when it's in your pocket or just leaving it alone on the table?
Edit:
Maybe you can upload a logcat output?
I have the same problem. But I do not remember what the phone was doing at the time. But I will be back if this happens again .
I had that kind of problem with an HTC Desire some time ago and HTC changed the motherboard , problem was solved.
I had this problem with my Galaxy Note but I was never able to locate the cause because it also happens on a stock firmware, There were a couple of similar posts before but they were never solved, same deal at a local forum a few people had the issue custom ROM or stock. When I started to use RevoNote HD with V3 I think these 'Sleep of deaths' stopped AFAIK.

- I do have antivirus installed (AVG)
- I have many apps installed (the list would be too big to put here)
- It shut down whilst on the table
- Sorry but i am not aware how to view a logcat output
Well, I read in a german forum that anti virus programs can cause those shutdowns/reboots. I personally don't believe this but you can try to uninstall it.
You can find logcat here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nolanlawson.logcat&feature=search_result&hl=en
Just install it and let it run. Wait for the problem to occur and then reopen this app, save the log and put it up here.
It also can be "just" a black screen.
So that the phone is awake but the screen is black, so it seems like it's down.
It can help to push the power button again.
(For example this problem sometimes occurs at CM9.)
Thanks for the help.
I have download CatLog. Fingers crossed that i wont have to use it
I had read about the black screen problem and that it could be linked to a lock screen issue so I have downloaded WidgetLocker as an alternative to see if that makes any difference (I don't hold too much hope for this as it is only ever running on top of the touchwiz lockscreen but i may aswell try)
i just got my note a few weeks ago and have been suffering this problem as well. it has happened twice now where the note has switched itself off, and my morning alarm has not gone off! which is quite tragic as i rely on it to get to work.
i wonder if this is a software or a hardware problem...
any other owners facing the same problem?
I've had my Note around three weeks and in the first week I had this happen to me twice. I cannot say what caused it (I'm on Stock Rom), as I went a bit app happy and downloaded all sorts of apps when I first got it. After the first week I cleaned up a lot of the apps (Which included AVG, GoLauncher) and I've only had it happen one time since.
I was using the app "My Country" or "Airport City" and I think it was being slow, so spammed it with commands - causing it to reboot. Which is probably unrelated to the previous problems, I have however looked into CatLog - so if it happens again, I will post some details up here :]

[Q] HTC HD7 stucks sometimes

Hello guys,
I'm very happy with my HTC HD7 but now I got some issues with it. I've installed a "Security Unlocked - Bootloader" (v.1.16) and tested with different customized ROMs.
Now about my issue:
Sometimes my HTC HD7 will stuck and I can't use the physical button anymore (volume, power, ...) and some Apps do not work anymore. Also my battery icon show me it should be full although I've use my HTC HD7 the whole day. I need to remove the battery to reboot the device. After this process I can use the buttons again for few minutes or hours.
I've try some different ROMs (also the Stock ROM) and Hard-Reset but now my ideas is running out so I hope anyone can help me.
BR,
PatBadAzz
it seems that many are having rebooting, stuck or bootloopproblems after 18 moths of usage
as to your ptoblem i know what is itis failing sim card or sdcard reader or the sdcard itself is faulty.
most of the hd7 problems are due to storage issues
Hi,
I have this problem too.
It is a common problem and there is no solution?
How about a handset restart app? That would remove need to remove battery or use power button (that no longer works).
How would i get hold of and re-install the device software?
Thanks
