Sorry I am really new to all this

Those are different firmware version for galaxy. Here is some example
I9000XXJP3 Froyo Firmware
I9000XWJM2
I9000XWJM5
thanks!
I wonder is the baseband version means that
Yes the reffered post does inform about the meaning of the CODE:
"The first two letters describe the country while the third gives the year, the fourth gives the month and the last number/letter is the version of the firmware (from that specific month. Numbering starts at 1-9 and then uses letters from A-Z)"
Now in i9000XXJG5, XX=part of europe, J is 10th alphabet so year 2010 fine and G being 7th indicating July
BUT
[email protected] or i9000XWJM5 is confusing.
P now we know is for FROYO ROMS
M being 13th alphabet cannot be month so whether JG5/JG8 is older or newer than JM2/JM5, for example, is not evident from the ROM number itself.
I have searched a lot myself for this but nothing conclusive came out.
I think the M is indicative of an experimental firmware as opposed to an official release.

I'm guessing the M stands for an internal codeword (such as Milestone), whilst P might stand for Prerelease. But I guess we'll never know.

Does anyone know when will the next Android update (aka Froyo) will be out ? I read this article today and found out that there is an alpha version of Froyo available for developers :
HTML:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/04/01/exclusive-google-android-2-5-froyo-rom-and-upcoming-features-leaked/#new-charging-technology
Usually we hear stuff a good while before an ota hits. There has been very little beyond very broad statements thus far so I'd say we have a long time to wait. But that's ok, with all of the time Google is taking I'm expecting nothing less than mind-blowing improvements.
Come on bro...

Someone needs to put all these posts in order! and first of all establish a filing system! tags(well who puts tags?? maybe forced tick boxes) or brackets or something that will make it easier to find stuff!
That being said, can someone please point me to the official froyo for galaxy s? I cannot make kies work for some reason and I need to do it manually.
I have froyo but is either ****ed up, or beta, or something, cause it crashes like hell! Baseband version is I9000xxJP2
While you are at it, a guide on what is JPM, JP2, JP♥, etc is would be nice!
Thanks!
EDIT: I found one guide for installing 2.2 on the galaxy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
Also try this website: http://www.samfirmware.com which has all the "official" firmware for Galaxy.
Still it would be nice to know about all the JP*versions...
There is no official froyo as yet. JPM and JP6 were briefly released earlier this month but they are by no means complete and still seem to have a number of issues. Samsung said that a new super fast official froyo release will be with us sometime in November. If you're brave enough you can try one of the releases available, I did recently, but I've gone back to JM1 that was supplied on my phone.
I know its an annoying and long wait but with any luck this will give Samsung the chance to get it right

Oh well, I thought the stuff they put up on their site was the official thing, and everyone is saying that they are rolling out froyo for the past couple of weeks...
it is VERY annoying, especially with all the good modders and coders that are around in xdadevs, and to be honest they prolly can build a froyo version much faster and cleaner than the "official" one....

Umm.. You do realise the modders here mostly take the Samsung code and enhance it right? Modding ROM's is a lot more difficult then writing/maintaining them (remember, the modders don't touch the drivers).
The situation does suck, but I actually respect many companies which delay releases more than those that don't. Because those that consistently deliver on schedule, often deliver their software with MAJOR issues (issues which may even require hardware to be returned for repair)
You can find here, on my PC:
c:\Users\Developer_007\.android\Froyo
FroYo for unbranded phones should be here early November. For carrier models Samsung have stated by the end of November. All we can do is play the waiting game. It gets delayed, delayed and delayed. Will probably get delayed till November, who knows?
Where you get information about november? Prooflink please!

Not overenthusiastic about Froyo.
Galaxy Tabs was released in Thailand a few weeks ago with official Froyo, played with it. The performance is subpar.

From what I've read there's a possibility the Japanese SGS is running slightly different hardware, has built in TV receiver and something different with the camera too
From Samsung UK on facebook 2 minutes ago
"We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed."

So, another month of waiting. Fantastic.
I'm curious if this will be also the case for the rest of Europe?
They just replied to a customer asking when in November and they said
We're releasing Froyo from the beginning of November and we're expecting all networks to have it by the end of November. The key benefits of Froyo will include Google maps with navigation, as well as improved browser performance.
In Singapore too. Samsung Singapore has said that they are almost done with the froyo 2.2 and it should be release on schedule! =)

Any body know when oficial gingerbread relase ?
today is april7
I heard that a quasi-official representative for a PR company that works with Samsung posted a leaked email on their Facebook page last month, which had been translated from Finnish by a Croatian living in Tripoli.
This clearly suggested that Gingerbread would probably be "officially, more or less" released for some Galaxy S i9000 models (the T and the W, but not the B or M or the ultra rare C~ variant, as well as for International models released in landlocked countries) on "around about the twelfth of Neverwas, or 5 days before the fifth full moon in August...give or take a few equinoxes either way".
...IN short, no one knows anything for sure. Just lots of hearsay.
I have the twelfth of never from a reliable sauce .

Coming damn soon to unlocked i9000's... dunno about i9003 which I own, asked sammy india tweeter a/c, didnt reply yet...

Samsung tests in advance of the upgrade is now completely in the final stages, and in the middle of April rolled out the upgrade for mobile that is not linked to specific operators. In mid-May is also the Android 2.3 made available for operator-specific phones.
The upgrade will be available through Samsung's software Samsung Kies.

Prob not.
Remember they have released loads of updates in different countries already and that's what it means I think.
If it was GB they would have updated the spec and there would be much more press coverage via tech sites / their own twitter feeds etc
A V10E has been released in Hong Kong so it's still Froyo.
Ok... I am back to waiting position
very funny
I received the picture below .... 2 minutes ago ...
The problem is not that the servers... not working right now for some reason... but people at LG believe that today we are in July ...

Hi All
I hope everyone is looking after each other. I have a G7 plus which I ordered online mid last year. I'm in Australia and I have found out the phone is from Bulgaria. Anyhow it's been a disaster. Apparently Bulgaria aren't releasing Android 10. I guess my question is how can I get it? I'm pretty tech savvy and can follow your advice. Advice which would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Trent

Hey Trent, hope you're keeping well too!
Do you know what your software channel is? It's in your phone settings.
I wouldn't dismiss not getting Android 10 just yet - I know the UK just got it a day or so ago and even myself (in Canada, Latin American version from Amazon) just got it about three weeks ago.
To answer you directly, I'm not aware of any way to force the update if the ROM is not available for your channel yet.
Motorola is notoriously slow at releasing and rolling out updates (they announced the Android 10 roll out in January and here we are in April) so hang in there - as far as I am aware all G7+ should be getting this update so give it a bit more time.

Thanks for your prompt reply. The software channel is reteu. The reason I'm concerned is I know in Australia they've had Android 10 for awhile and when I checked on the Bulgarian site it said they weren't updating the G7. I just hope if they do it works in Australia

Oh hmm.
According to reddit reteu should have gotten it:
Finally! (Moto G7 plus reteu)
I was under the impression that your physical location didn't matter, just your channel did but I could be wrong.
One thing I would be tempted to try is setting up a VPN and connecting to a server in Australia.
You might also want to post on the "official" Motorola forum for our devices:

Whoops, yes. Lack of coffee in the morning when I wrote that!
If that's not possible to find a VPN endpoint in Bulgaria then I think any European country should do because "reteu" is "Retail Europe".
I hope it works although I'm grasping at straws here - I'm on retla ("Retail Latin America") and physically in Canada and I am pretty sure the update came out the same time for all devices on retla regardless of location.
But it doesn't hurt to try, right?

That's just bizarre. What's the address for that site? The G7 Plus is supposed to receive one major version upgrade (Android 9 to 10) and subsequent security patches for a time.
What's your exact model number? Ie. mine is XT-1965-2
What is the message when you try to check for updates?
If your software channel is RETEU you can download the official firmware from lolinet , then use the lenovo/motorola smart assistant to flash it. It will wipe your device FYI. I've personally never done it so not sure the exact steps, but it can be done.
the LMSA can be found HERE
I've also heard of people putting the firmware file on the root of an SD card, then checking for system update in settings and it can get detected as a legitimate update (as it will be, lolinet files are official firmware dumps).
Also someone else has written an update script in THIS THREAD you can try if the above does not work, however try the official moto route before resorting to that as a last resort (also should/will work however).
Hope this helps.
(also i wouldnt be concerned about it being from Bulgaria. If its a reteu xt1965-3 youll be able to flash the 10 official update)
