Uninstalling unwanted apps - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that its possible to use android sdk and a bunch of commands to remove unwanted apps. I haven't tried this but it looks pretty easy.
What I would like to know is would I be able to delete unwanted apps simply by deleting their apk file in root?
To my mind this might stop the app from loading but might not uninstall all assosuated files if any.
Hope someone can help clear this up for me.
Thanks

It won't delete the app data and cache, but it will uninstall the app.

In short yes.
It can be removed with a file explorer. Most things hardly store any data. Other than those that tell you before hand. Fifa, football manager etc.

There are apps with Installers (search on G Play) which save the .apk's and indicate the path to these.
I'm very used to System Panel (Pro version) Installer, with a very useful UI.

[Q] Uninstalling a app installed in system folder

I recently installed WidgetLocker and installed it in my system/app folder as I read it would work best if installed there. But have come to just not like using it and just gone back to the default kindle lock screen and changed the background wallpapers. I can't seem to find a place on the device or apps I use to uninstall it.
And deleting the .apk from the system folder works, but am unsure if everything is removed.
Would I just delete the .apk in the system/app folder then remove any links/shortcuts or is there another, proper, way to do it?

The app manager of a handy program called ROM TOOLBOX can uninstall system files. Just load it, then a long press on the offending "app will reveal menu including uninstall.
Awesome, thank you. Guess I should have this on my device for a while

Yeah, that's what I first did and shortcuts and some of the data and its folder still remained, but I uninstalled with ROM Toolbox and it worked out nicely. Got rid of most of what I wanted gone.

Solved: Insufficient Storage on app restore!

This applies to At&t i537, but might work for others as well
I was about to pull my hair out because I couldn't restore a few apps from backup or re-download from the market without the "insufficient storage" error. Theres no way im actually out of memory, so i knew something else was going on. I searched XDA & Google without finding much.
I discovered it has to do with some problems with the uninstall of the app. Basically, if android doesn't clear ALL of the data on uninstall, there's no way to reinstall it. In other words, your phone thinks its already there.
My fix-
*Must be rooted*
-I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP- THIS IS ONLY ADVICE!!
The app & its data must be deleted from 3 places.
Using Root Explorer, go to the data folder.
Inside you must delete the app from folders:
1. App
2. App-lib
3. Data
Now install the app from backup or market.
To keep this from happening, I delete all app data in App Manager before uninstall.
If I've helped, don't forget to hit the thanks button.

Clearing space in system partition.

Hey guys, so I heard that a lot of people were deleting some un needed system apps to clear up space on the system partition. However, I can't seem to remove any system apps. I tried titanium backup and this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp Neither of which seemed to work! What did you guys use to delete the system apps? A root explorer? Or another app? Thanks! I'm trying to clear room to install xposed on my system!
i used root explorer. went into /sysyem/app/, deleted what i didnt need, then rebooted.

Yea I tried to uninstall docs, slides, and keep and they said they uninstalled, but really didn't. The storage space on my system remained the same. I will try using root explorer though and see if that works!

they said its uninstalled because it uninstalls updated app/apk. Update of system app/apk will be installed like normal apps and base app/apk remains in system partition. So uninstall updated app and delete base app/apk from /system. wolla..more free spaces

On mine it gave free space after uninstalling these packages. That's how it's supposed to work doesn't it?
It also says I can't get it back anymore which implies that it's removing stuff (as opposed to freezing)

Is deleting only APK file is enough to remove it completely from the system?

On OxygenOS Stock ROM (4.1.6) there are some apps came pre-installed that I don't use. For example Google Gmail, Hangout also OnePlus's own calculator/clock etc. I want to delete those apps and replace Gmail with Inbox. completely remove Hangout, OPCalculator and OPClock with Google's Calculator and Clock. I have deleted those apps before by manually deleting them from inside /System/App and /System/Priv-app
Now, I'm trying to write my 'own' TWRP flash-able updater script to do such action. But I am kind of confused if only deleting an APK's parent folder is enough to remove the apps completely? For example, if I only delete the folder System/App/(Deskclock) - is that enough or there will be related files remaining somewhere else?
* I know Titanium Backup or other debloat apps can perform similar task, but the main purpose of this question is to know how can this be done manually and properly without leaving un-necessary files in the system.
Thanks.
Deleting the folder of an app in /system/app will remove the app from your phone (as in, not showing up in launchers or the Installed Apps list). However, app data and updates may still be saved in the /data partition. To make sure all of it is removed, first clear data and uninstall all updates to the system apps you with to remove from the Installed Apps list (disable it), then delete the APK either through a root explorer, or a recovery script.

1. I wonder if this is even possible inside TWRP, I mean targeting those unwanted apps, uninstalling updates+ clearing app data/disable them.. Or you are suggesting me to remove them manually from the OOS interface/settings one by one?
2. Also while in TWRP, none of those app (that I will remove) are not functional so what's the points of clearing app data/uninstalling updates? why not simply delete /system/app/(app.apk) and /data/app/(related files.)
Thanks again.

1) If you know where the extra data/updates are stored in /data, then you could use a recovery script to delete them. It's kind of one-shot deal though, as unless you open the apps again (after re-flashing a ROM), they won't have any data saved to them the next time you want to delete them.
2) If they aren't functional, they likely won't have much app data to begin with. I would clear the app data from apps like Google Play Music or Movies (if you don't want to use them) before deleting them. Random Engineering Test Tools and unessential services won't have much data stored and can be deleted directly.
i think its just fine bt read other comments too for better understanding.
