Hi guys,
I have a Nexus One running 2.2 and was thinking about swapping it for a HTC HD2 and then putting Froyo on it myself. I like the fact that the HD2 has a bigger screen and pretty much the same spec as the Nexus One.
Does anyone know how the HTC HD2 runs after putting Froyo in it? Is it as fast as the N1 with Froyo? Is everything working like callls Wifi etc.? Would you do the swap I am about to do or do you think I'm mad?
Cheers,
M
I honestly hated my HD2. Good luck
Cheers Wylker......can I ask why though? What handset you got now man?

Probably because of windows mobile. =)
Cool! Anyone have one and put Froyo on it? Is it hard to do guys?
M
i did tried it on my HD2 last night . software still have alot not respone error not smooth running yet. had to force stop alot the screen look washed out compare to nexus one battery not recognized. and it running hot. i did see the advance of having larger screen thought.
Thank you tiensinh99. Do you have a link for a tutorial on how to put Froyo on it??
Larger screen... if you prefer that, that's probably the only thing that makes it better than the Nexus. The biggest downside is it being a windows based phone. Wait for galaxy S to come out for T-Mobile. Or go for EVO if you want a bigger screen, that would be a smarter way to go.
If I was to start all over though, and had a choice between those devices ... I'd buy a nexus one once again.
the instruction how to install is in the LEO general forum. also there r the dual boot intruction.
samsung galaxy S already came out on tmobile. and i'm still choice N1 over HD2 every time.
Cheers guys.....I think I have my answer.

Wasn't there another thread where someone was looking to swap his HD2 for an Nexus One?
Maybe these 2 should meet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728343
thinking of trading nexus one for iphone 3gs and htc hd2, both phones are unlocked. Would this trade be worth doing? I ve used an unlocked, jailbroken iphone before pretty solid, wouldnt mind playing with the hd2 for awhile.
I couldn't stand using my friends HD2 for more than 5 minutes.
wouldn't trade my nexus for that phone even if it could transform into optimus prime...
or build an island and transform into a jet and fly me to that island.. i don't care.
I would not do that. While it is neat to see android running on a a wm phone, it would never be nearly as stable as a real android phone. I had a touch diamond and I could never use android on a daily basis, had awful battery life and all kind of other problems
So I'm about to go buy an Evo today and I'm just about to leave and I get an email notice from BestBuy saying the the new Nexus S is going to hit stores soon and I stop...is it even worth buying an Evo now or should I hold off!? I got my Hero a few months before the Evo came out because I needed a new phone and now I am due for an up-grade but should I hold off, will Sprint release something soon that blows the Evo out of the water?
Anyone have any insight?

Well, I'm hoping the Nexus S comes out on Sprint. I'd like a high end phone, but no matter how many times I hold one, the Evo just seems too big.
Nexus S will probably NOT be coming to Sprint, though I can envision Samsung releasing Touchwiz versions eventually (well, maybe). As for Sprint coming out with something better than the EVO sooner than later, well, who knows, besides them. You can always just get the EVO, and if something better comes along (by IF I mean definitely, as that's how technology works obviously) soon, resell it and pay maybe $1-150 tops out of pocket.
well what's really the diff. between the nexus one and the nexus s....snapdragon vs hummingbird.....what else...second camera on nexus s? and htc vs samsung?
cause i know nexus one +custom rom = off the chart benchmark results.....too bad sprint can't use it....

Try the Epic, it's smaller.....
Sprint is coming out with the Evo Shift, which is a smaller Evo on January 6.
Well I like the size of the Evo so no sense in waiting for the smaller one. Looks like I will just get the Evo and then figure out how to get CM6 on it lol.

Nexus S is going to t-mobile, unless you get it unlocked. It's not much of an upgrade from the Nexus 1, front facing cam but not as good as EVO I believe, also there's no microSD card its all 16gb internal. No touchwiz. Oh yea, and its a samsung.
As much as I want to upgrade I'll wait for the feb/march batch of phones, I don't want to drop $529 for a phone that will be outdone in a major way in as little as 2-3 months.

It's a faster processor, at least. Lack of MicroSD is really dumb, don't really understand the thinking behind that one myself. It is a Samsung, but yeah, no Touchwiz is a positive, the GPS issues the Galaxy-S series seems to have been plagued with have apparently been ironed out with (at least I think I read that.. maybe don't quote me on that), and since it's a developer phone it'll be dogfed the latest updates from Google, also a big plus (especially with future implementation of NFC and some other more behind the scenes stuff like that).
However, still interested in how the reviews and general reception of it turn out, especially since T-Mobile already has the G2 and MyTouch 4G, both really nice phones on their own. Also, this news makes me really happy: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/08/evo-shift-4g-aka-htc-knight-speedy-shows-up-in-accessory-pic/
Sprint-branded Desire Z? Probably the best phone to have on the carrier if that pans out sooner than later.
Other issues with the Nexus S I've heard around the webz:
1. No LED notifications
2. Only 480p video recording

I don’t think any of the Galaxy S phones have LED notifications.
I'm not so much worried about whether the Nexus S will be coming to Sprint I am worried that there might be something coming from Sprint that will make the Evo look like junk. I got my Hero thinking it was top dog and months later I was kickin' myself in the ass. And now that the Evo has established it's dominance I am afraid to jump on the bandwagon incase something superior hits.
Well, it looks like the "Knight"/"Speedy"/"Evo Shift 4G" should be announced sometime sooner than later. Since it'll be a Sprint-branded Desire Z/G2 seemingly, I'd say that's worth holding out for.

yeah that's what I keep reading but it's smaller and a slider...neither of which I hold in high regard.
My close friend works for sprint they are getting the htc Knight aka baby evo 4g which has NO front facing camera and is not better then the EVO. That's all they are telling sprint employees right now. Everything else is just rumors and wishes. I also have a friend who works for t-mobile(chick I'm messing around with lol) who says tmo is getting the nexus s they already have some accessories for it in the back and the specs are pretty much same as nexus one but WITH a front facing camera. Biggest downfall is that its a Samsung so need I say more about that company.

Biggest downfall is a lack of external storage.

It's already known Nexus S is hitting T-Mobile. Also, if the EVO Shift is the Desire Z (can't see it NOT being it), then it will be better than the EVO (second generation processor, bettery battery life as a result, faster, etc). I guess we will see, but yeah.

Maybe battery life but I'm sure the evo would hold its own; this phone having only internal storage makes it just as bad as an iPhone no deal. Also I'm not going crazy over desire z stats anyways :rolls eyes:

Hi,
I've been on the forums as a ghost for quite a while now. Had my Captivate since early December, and it was a big change; considering I had a BlackBerry 8900 before this, and this phone literally expelled all fear of having a touchscreen-enabled phone again.
But that's not even my argument.
I know that ATT is rolling out with their three new 'super-phones', announced at CES 2011. The HTC Inspire, Samsung Infuse, and Motorola Atrix.
Personally, I just love HTC, and was really hoping for a phone a lot like the Inspire. Only problem is, I'm not even going to use 4G + EVO is practically the same phone and it's been out for so much longer than most if not all Androids for ATT. Really, I just love Sense, and that's what I'm waiting for.
So which should I get? I really want something that looks nice and is 'hackable'? Though Captivate has the highest dev base for ATT, still--I want some awesome devs working on the phone I've got, and I don't want to feel envy if I would've picked up the Inspire.
So any advice?
I still like my captivate and will not change it anytime soon.

First and foremost: HTC makes a great UI. HTC makes crappy quality phones. Keep that in mind. They aren't horrible, but when you pick one up, it's just not on par with the build quality as the Samsung Captivate.
Also, that's a software thing that you want. So you can get the Sense UI on the Captivate. Will it be easy? No. But it's possible, and you don't have to go and get a new phone to do it.
Lastly: it's not the Captivate that has the awesome devs (though I absolutely love dg, Mikey, and the others in the Captivate forums), it's the Samsung phone line. So if you did end up getting the Samsung Infuse, you'd still have multiple, extremely capable devs working on it, mostly because it's the new "thing".
But trust me, all of these phones that are coming out, including the Inspire, will have the same dev base as the other. Plus, I believe it was DG? that said he was going to buy the Motorola Atrix when it came out, so you can imagine that some nice stuff will be coming out for that Don't worry about it though.
Personally, I'm keeping my Captivate. It's more than fast enough. The only two issues I have are that the battery isn't that great (fixable), and it doesn't have a flash (not fixable). But the flash isn't a selling point for me, so once I have the phone, I'll stick with it for my contract period.
I have a Nexus One running cm7 theme Inexus and I love this phone. Its in great shape and never thought in my mind I would ever consider selling it. Everything about it since I first got it, does everything I want it to do. Now comes into the question. I'm with T-Mobile and been with them since the begining but I feel it's time to say goodbye to them for couple different reasons. Looks like I'm going to go with cincinnati bell and they told me I could use my Nexus One with them that was great news. When I was at the store I picked up the Galaxy S and felt pretty good.
Whats the pros and cons of Nexus One and the Galaxy S. Or even though the Galaxy S felt good not on same level of N1?
Thanks for all that might beable to help me with this question.
Its time to upgrade, I like the EVO 3D, but is it worth it,, What are some other options, Thanks.
Get the EVO LTE. Most of the OG Evo devs, and some of the ones that were here (like me XD) are getting it. Downside to that is you might be stuck with 3G until LTE is implemented on your location.
But if you're ok with WiMax 4G, then you should get the Galaxy SII. Not too sure, but I think the community is better than the Evo 3D's.

Thanks for the reply, I got the Galaxy SII and so far its great..
Congrats! That phone is sexy in white (you better have gotten the white one)!
Ill probably be getting the galaxy SIII but I'm not sure yet.

Personally I would get the HTC EVO 4G LTE. I know a lot of people are getting the Samsung Galaxy SIII but to me they are getting it because of the name Samsung established with the SII. The SIII is nothing compared to what the SII brought when it was release. The SIII boasts a lot of feature but for me personally I doubt I will know enough people to even use half of them, if one of them at all. I know I'm not going to go up to strangers and exchange data so those features aren't what I'm looking for. Also from what I have been reading the SIII feels like cheap plastic as oppose to the HTC's unibody. But due to that unibody the HTC isn't allowed a mSD card, so that might be your deal breaker. S-Voice that comes with the SIII is crap and everyone is waiting for Jelly Bean anyways. From benchmarks at Anandtech the HTC seems to score higher or up to par with the SGSIII so the best way to determine what you want is to go to the store and feel and mess with both of them. That's how I would finalize my decision if I haven't already made it.

You do know that the HTC EVO 4G LTE doesn't have a unibody construction and has a micro SD card right? It's the only U.S variant with a different design among all the U.S carriers.

Everyone is still referring to it as a aluminum unibody. But I'm not entirely sure how loosely people define "unibody" as. I do know that the only removable portion is the top portion of the back. So the majority of the body is still just one piece.
