i have a tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708937, im no longer on metro so and havent been in about month. if you've never flashed a moto droid before you have a lot of reading to do. you can start with my thread, and go from there to the howard form link. theres a little more you have to do since metro updated the password change for hudini devices. if your totally lost in my thread go to howard and seek help there, in metro pcs smartphone flashing forum.
thanks have a good day
i was hoping that i didnt have to do that since its already flashed to metro pcs
I hope im not to late to help but all you have to do is find a way to access the apn and then turn it on. You can use an app like better cut or smartbar. I only mention smartbar because thats how I came across the apn
i just got my wifes D1 flashed and works great, all works no issues. well, except that the ROM installed constantly freezes and i am not too sure the issue. seems to be a camera freeze only so may be related to the other things.
is there a 2.2 ROM list that will work better than Chevy's?
My Fav Rom BugLess

Hi guys, I started having issues with my SMS this morning. Now, I can't send messages reliably, I'm not sure if I'm receiving them properly now either. On top of that, I am was having issues with 3g, sometimes the icon would not appear at all, and others it would not load web pages or send data via internet enabled apps, i.e. facebook. I must stress that I did not change absolutely anything, and that it just started happening. could this be a flaw with cognition? or is it just AT&T being... well... AT&T?
I assume it's just AT&T being AT&T, I had issues with that exact scenario about a month ago. Cog is working fine for me, but you can always try to backup and re-flash and see if that helps.

If it persists I will re-flash... pain, but what ever. Any-who I'm about to get an inspire 4g anyways so meh.
Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not the only one who has encountered this problem. I tend to have one-in-6-billion luck like that.
Please post in the Cog sticky instead of creating new threads.
oh and for the record I'm running 3.04. Looking in to 4.1 anyways, wondering if I can update it without having to wipe everything. Can I restore apps + Data if I go from 3.04 to 4.1, or will that cause all sorts of hairy issues still?
No problem at all. Did you do your research around the forums and see all the reviews about the inspire not being all that it's cracked up to be? Not trying to sway your decision or anything, just making sure you know what you'll be getting into.

I don't think I wiped anything when I updated, but when I restored system apps with TiBu, I got some FC's when it came to a few of the system apps and data, don't recall which ones though.

I've been fiddling with it at the at&t store... I like it a lot but I'm looking in to the possibility of getting a different carrier's phone unlocked... I'll check out some of the discussion though. thanks
im not a big fan of how hard it is to remove the battery panel and the panel where the memory card would be at. but the phone looks nice. androidcentral has a video review about it
..In picking out which is the best droid setup for me.
I was here months back when I setup droid on my Vogue(US Cellular) and over the course of a couple days of trying out different builds and testing, I found that Warm Doughnut was the best working one for me at the time. Unlike the Froyo build on here that I tried, doughnut's data connection worked fine (and right away) without any setup at all whereas I couldn't get it running for the life of me on Froyo.
However, I'm wanting to swap out past doughnut now to a more updated version of Android. Which would you all recommend? I've been reading some good reviews on the Gingerbread build... However, I'm worried about calls/sms/data and all of the other features... Which are working which aren't?
I'd have to have them all working (like current setup on doughnut) to make the switch, else it'll just be pointless for me.
Now I ask the same of the FroYo build on here. Before it worked fine for me, except the data functions... I couldn't get it to connect at all for the life of me.
So, I ask of you all with more experience with this phone than me. What would you suggest? What works for you? Doughnut, Froyo, or Gingerbread?
I want to get Froyo running if I can (about to put it back on and give it a go) but not having a data connection will kill the idea for me. And even better would be if I can get Gingerbread running, but only if I can get in/outgoing calls, sms, data, (gps hopefully) and bluetooth.
Thanks in advance for any/all support you guys can give me!
Superfroyo seems very stable and functional to me. I'm on Sprint. Even MMS works though you have to fiddle with it. Gingerbread's not all there yet stabilitywise.

Thanks for the reply! I felt the same when I tried it out months ago, my only issue is getting the data running... Did you have to fiddle with yours a lot to get it working? I know you're on Sprint and I'm on US Cellular, but from what I can tell the two shouldn't be that different to setup. Maybe I didn't give it enough time/work before to get data running (or maybe I was doing it wrong).
Also, I'm going to be using it from my SD card (like I have previously) for a while and make sure its solid before I think about wiping my WM6.1 off and replacing it altogether. Doughnut worked fine off of the SD card, I'm assuming Froyo will as well? Didn't give it too much time before, but when I did have it going on the SD card before I didn't notice it chugging along at all.
Another thing, do I have to use WM6.5 to get this going, or is it ok using WM6.1 like I am? Would prefer not to have to redo (and backup all that nonsense) for my 6.1 if I don't have to.
I totally wiped windows mobile and run off nand. It's snappy enough and data worked straight off. No fiddling.

Well, got Froyo running... But no data running yet... Enabled Data, enabled data while roaming (roaming majority of the time anyways) and nothing yet...
Ideas anyone?

The typical question is: does it work in winmo?
I ran into this article yesterday, How to Flash CyanogenMod 7 ROM Samsung Captivate AT&T, and felt it was about time to learn about this. Plenty of you have already ROOTED your phones, and know from experience, what to do. But, I don't. Right now, I'm stuck with the options of accepting things don't work right, because of AT'T's unwillingness, or inabilility, to correct the issues I have, or reinsiall new, and lose all I've put on, or send back to Samsung for repair, and have them lose all I have on it, or try Rooting and adding a ROM, that may solve my issues. But to do that, I need a little help in understanding it.
First, if I try and run a program, like CyanogenMod 7, and it doesn't work correctly, snd screws up my phone, is there a way I can reinstall Android, and start over, or is that the proverbial kiss of death for my Captivate, and I'm stuck with it like that?
Second, is this the right ROM to try? AT&T can't fix my BLOCKS, of UNKNOWN APPS. The Settings change is easy, you click on activating Unknown, in Application settings..., unless you have no UNKNOWN, to choose. Also, in MMS settings, AT&T shows in a tutorial, that you have the option, of activating Delivery Report and Read Report. It shows this as plain as day, on that tutorial for the Captivate, yet mine, has NEITHER OF THOSE OPTIONS. Also, to TURN ON EDGE, the setting is missing, so I can't activate EDGE, which I guess is no big thing, since the towers AT&T has for us to connect with, THAT ARE 2G, are in such poor condition, no one can connect to them. Thank you, WIFI, for helping me get, ONLINE. Will this, or other ROM's, solve this for me?
If there are any suggestions of how to do this, and what to use, I'd appreciate hearing it from you. Again, I thank any effort, to help me.
1.cm 7 would not be the best rom to flash for your first time.
2. All roms are android, you are running at&t/samsung version of an android rom...
3. Yes you can get back to your stock rom if you don't like/something goes wrong (other than a bad bootloader flash)
4.all custom roms have all the blocking done by at&t removed so switching to 2g(edge) is possible and also faster 3g speeds known as hspa. And unknown sources is in the settings so you can install apps from outside the market.
5.the threads at the top of every section with a little thumb tacks are called stickies, give those a read through.
Like he said above. If you want the pretty much stock experience that your used to but want it fixed then I would suggest starting off with Cognition 4.4 or whatever it is now.

From newbie to a newbie, I took the advice of others and read threads for atleast a month before I flashed my first rom. My choice was Andromeda3, It has a written tutorial and a video on how to from start to finish. From what tools or apps you will need and how to use them , I watched that atleast 6 times and also while I was flashing the kernel and the rom. It may have been overkill but my flash was perfect and I'm real happy with my phone now. You may not go with the same rom I did but do your self a favor and do what I did to prepare for your first flash.
I have rooted and succesfully backed up my original rom I am wandering since I use verizon networks will the roms for sprint be the wrong roms for my phone.I would like a rom that is stable and fast that will let me configure wap mms sms so that i can use my phone on Page Plus which is on verizon networks. THANX
I have been reading that the eris is basically the same phone different skin branded for verizon so will eris roms work on my phone. THANX
Also forgot to mention that my hero came from Alaska Communications Services. I dont know how much different the phone is from others but it looks just like the sprint phone. There website calls it a HERO 200. This should have been further up even though I put it in the header someone might get confused as to what I meant in the heading. I do know the htc sync is different the 1 for sprint would not work so I looked up there site and downloaded from there and it works great. THANX
Hmm seems no one knows or I asked a question no one wants to tackle.
since you backed up your stock rom.. why not just try an eris or a hero rom? whats the worst that could happen? it doesn't work and you restore?
it shouldnt matter what rom u use as long as its for the cdma hero, roms do not affect data unless it specifically says so.
So the rom only changes rom and nothing else. I have been reading on this for only a week and learning by the minute thankyou both for your reply.Beirce22 I noticed you are using cyanogen 7.1 does everything like camera, gps, etc work well for you and how fast is it im ready to start my first rom flash. THANX
yes cyanogen is very stable its been my daily for about a week now and everything works as far as i know.
Hello all I am semi-new to the community,
Ive been playing with a Kindle Tate as long as I can remember and this site has been absolutely amazing! Thanks for that. never posted before so if I get something wrong please forgive me.
Anyhow I'm running my ATT Note 3, started on 5.0 lollipop stock no root(getting old), flashed with odin back to KK rooted with safestrap ect... made a backup of that just in case (backup or micro sd went bad now)
I started with AllianceRom for att note 3, it seemed to do well for a day or two, at somepoint after a reboot or something I'm not sure when, but my SMS wont send or receive. phone is working (calls) browser and 4g seemed to work decent (not the fastest) and I could have lived with it but I need sms. Today I decided to try another Rom after reading around and not finding much on my situation, so I went with the Aurora (very nice if my dang sms would work). it could be a setting in the phone ive forgot ??? or has it got something to do with KNOX or the oc1/oc2/np kernals? any help would be great! Thank you guys.
