what would you class as real music?
Rock for one example, that has a great musical compound and words that mean something.
I just listened to what you posted and it just sounds like a badly scratched trance CD. What the hell are kids these days listening to.

That's you favorite music. This thread is about dubstep
and i'm making it into why is sucks.
Wow, random. I just started listening to Rusko a couple days ago. My first taste of dubstep and I have to admit, its pretty fun to blast.
check out Woo Boost and Hold On and Hold On Remix (a little more dubsteppy)
(sorry can't figure out how to embed youtube videos )
P.S. I really don't like it when people put down other people's taste in music. If it's not for you, it's not for you, but who are you to say what "real" music is

i listen to rock as well, thin lizzy, acdc, white snake, lynyrd skynyrd stuff lik tht, not really into any modern rock. i vary my tastes tho, and that youtube song i put up b4 is supposed to be like that, all glitchy n sounding lik a scratched cd lol but it in no way sounds like trance lol. most music sounds the same anyways, they all have a rythmic beat, a bass note on the third and a lead, chorus and beat down.

and you cant really base your musical tastes on an article that someone else wrote? if you need someone else to tell you if a certain song or genre is good or bad music then you might as well not listen to music at all.

one thing that really annoys me is when people say "it has no words! its not proper music"
well i dont see anyone complaining about classical lol since when did mozart and beethoven sing in their compositions.
I wasn't basing my opinion on that article, it just so happens that I agree with it.

that article is a load of crap, it says you need no musical talent :s im pretty sure it does, ive been producing music for a while now and its easily as hard as playing an instrument, i also play the guitar so i can talk from both sides of the argument. it isnt easy to do what a sound engineer would do to your track but from your bedroom. i also had to learn the piano so that i could work on my midi keyboard with chord progressions etc, it takes years and years of fiddling round on the computer and learning chords and scales before you can even make a half decent track.
Oh! I thought all music can be your favorite
Perhaps I´ll start a thread for Jazz music then

Hey guys, I would love to hear your opinions on my short film that i've made. This is my 2nd short film including my student short film from last year.
We spent about $300 for the whole short film, pre-production to completion. We didn't have much money to make the movie to begin with, so we went in and hoped for the best. The crew was very small too, but I guess we have to start somewhere
I encountered many problems, which you'd expect for such a low budget short film (especially actors), but I've learnt from those mistakes as I begin writing my next short film and hope for a much better output for the next one.
We got busted by the police for the traffic light scene with helicopters and all, but they were nice enough to let us go.
enjoy and let me know what you think

Sounds like you had some fun doing that! I would watch it, but I have to watch my download use for the rest of January... 10 days and we have used up 3/5 of our quota... and the movie file size is about 350mb I think it says, so tomorrow morning (off-peak ;D). Well, firstly, you have a great camera-man! Those panning shots were smooth and I didn't see much if any shuddering etc. The focus is great, works especially well with the lights in the night, gives it some visual depth.
Music was soft and helpful for meaning in some scenes, and that keychain/locket was a good symbol for realising which car it was.
The actors weren't that bad in my opinion, way better than anything I could ever do Like others have said, it's more professional than I was expecting! The storyline was a bit confusing at times (or maybe it was me...) but I guess there's only so much you can fit into 16 minutes, so well done there.
Great job overall, keep up the good work! 'Liked' Maybe you should consider entering it somewhere, I'm not sure what's on in Sydney but it's worth a shot.
Just one thing though, why were you busted for the traffic light scene? Were you there for a while or something? I guess we only saw a tiny bit...

pur·ga·to·ry (pûrˈgə-tôrˌē, -tōrˌē)
noun pl. purgatories pur·ga·to·ries
A place or condition of suffering, expiation, or remorse: a purgatory of drug abuse.
purgatory; mental anguish or suffering
It's related to his past and the continued mental suffering he had every night. Especially the hallucinations caused by the pills he took to calm his anxiety attacks, which he didn't know were caused by the pills and was always stuck in this loop of events that haunted him, which is why the ending when Sandra's mother takes the pills from him, he is now able to deal with the past better because of the truth but also because the pills aren't there to bring back those hallucinations anymore to play with his mind again.

Haha, I would've loved to see that!!
The one other thing I have to mention about this movie was the fact that the main character didn't know how to drive a car properly, he was very very bad actually. 'Smoke and mirrors' made him look like a very good driver in the end.

We got busted by the cops because we had one car sit in the middle of the road high beaming the main characters car (when his face lights up as the other car speeds up towards him). This was around 11pm and the neighbours probably thought were doing something illegal like preparing for a drag race (we were beaming each other for 10 minutes) All of a sudden the ground illuminates and we look up and see a helicopter shining a light towards us, a minute later police arrive :\
The story was confusing at times but I made it so you essentially had to look back at even the subtle stuff he did, such as taking the pills then immediately after seeing the ghost car and girl to get a drift of the story.
To ease the confusion a bit for everyone, he was chasing himself. I left it open in one of the sections when Sandra reveals her name. In the story the character say's he doesn't know her however if the pills were causing only hallucinations, then how does he know he name. I left this part open for the audience to think for themselves. Did he know her name because of her death being mentioned at school but had completely forgotten about her until that night when he finally chases his own car and meets the girl or was she really a ghost who came down to tell him the truth about her actions.
The story was too complex for a short film but I think it was only after seeing so many simple linear short films that I wanted to take a different approach.
About entering it into festivals. I'm worried that the film isn't "good enough" yet to be shown at film festivals because of the small problems here and there. I'm trying to create a short film that really stands out at the film festivals and I personally don't believe this film is there yet.
Glad you liked it

Yeah I noticed that, but I couldn't do anything about it because by the time the other car turns left, it doesn't leave much room to fit in that shot and to give it the same kind of impact. I wanted to cut on the action of the main character turning left to the motion of the car but unfortunately the street lights caused a shadow. In the end, it was a very small problem that I couldn't to cut out because the content of the material was more important than the shadow appearing.

I thought the pills may have had something to do with it! But I was still tired when I was watching it, so it didn't click then But when you say it like that, it does fall into place, so maybe it's a better plot than I thought
And different approaches are always good

Believe it or not, that single traffic light scene was the hardest part of the whole film. We were running against the time especially having to deal with a public road and waiting for the road to clear on both sides for the other car to drive straight through... oh my goodness, what a nightmare hehe.

Do scales, breath properly.
Learn to breath in for up to 16 seconds, then hold for a few seconds, then release in 16 seconds. Learn to breath properly, with an open mouth, and from your diaphragm. After a long session of singing, your abdomen should feel like you've been doing ab workouts for the whole day (mine does).
Sing scales, from Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do-Ti-La-So-Fa-Mi-Re at the lowest that you can, then move up the scales. That means you start from C scale, the move up to D scale, and so on and so forth until you can't sing anymore. Also do octaves, where you go from a low "do" to a high "DO".
Vocalize, enunciate and project your voice. Don't mumble, open your mouth sooooo big like you wanna swallow the damn mic every time. Enunciate your words probably, or when you are singing multiple words in succession you will mumble and they could end up sounding very hilarious (happened to me once). Voice projection is important. You should aim to project your voice so that a room of 100 people can hear you clearly.
Memorize lyrics. Failure to do so will result in absolute scorn of your fellow musicians. This is not karaoke.
Depending on the setting and your religiousity, a church would be an excellent place to learn vocals. I learned most of my stuff in churches.
Karaoke is a great time to practise and show off your vocal range and power. My friends hate me for that. Their envy fuels my confidence and I sing louder and stronger when it comes to my favourite songs.
Have a favourite song. It should suit your emotion, vocal range and style. Sing it over and over and over again until you get it right. Build from that. Sing it with the emotion, passion and conviction.
Last but not least, get a coach. The internet can only teach you so much.
Okay thank you very much.

Well, you could quit smoking, or stop shooting up on heroine right before your performances. Also, tell the guy standing next to you to quit punching you in the stomach as you go for the High C note. You could quit gargling with razor blades, too, or stop inhaling helium.

man, i've already searched throughout the web and there's no lyrics for this song. this is not well known group i think. just find time to listen
Aight man, i gave it a shot, the lyrics are tricky to understand even though i have spoken english my whole life, so i might be wrong here and there.
Somewhere in the distance i hear the voices sing
they talk about tomorrow
and the new day it will bring
somewhere in the distance i hear a baby cry
His voice seems *bla bla bla* and we never wonder why
no we never wonder why he's walking
down the lonley road again
and we will have something to pretend
and im looking for the key that will open my heart
I remember he told me to always lead the way
give me the path that i should take and the words that i should say
i know that your with me, but show me that your true
tonight i'll leave it all behind and i'll spend my life with you
i'll spend my life with you
he is walking, down the lonely road again
and we will have something to pretend
and im looking for the key that will open my heart
yaahaayaaaaa
yes im walking down the loanely road again
and im waiting for
something to pretend
and im looking for the key that will open my heart
aw yeaahayaaa
The *bla* stands for i cant understand what they said at all
Anyways, this better be worth a few thanks

Me, too. The whole Skrillex and Deadmau5 excessive wobble is horrible music. It's not even music. Most of it has no melody at all. There is good and even great dubstep out there. Mostly it was the stuff that had been around for years before those two asshats hit the scene. I truly don't get the whole wobwobwobowobwobweeeweeeweeewobwobeoooeooooeoooeooowoobowoobobwoob ****. Look at Nero. A relative newcomer to EDM, those guys make good music. It's the kids who don't know good music and want to be cool and different that are driving this microwaved turd up in the charts. I don't get it.
Nero is the tits, that's for sure, I saw him at Identity last year it was crazy! The only person there who put on a better show was Chuckie. I've always been attracted to the more Agro sounds no matter what genre. When I was really young and listened to rap it was Three6 (back when they made good music) and UGK. Then I moved on to rock and it was Zombie and Manson. Now that I listen to EDM it's Skrillex, Deadmau5 & Knife Party. I understand why some people don't like it, most of the time it's because their ears are old lol. I don't need a melody just anything that makes the hairs on my neck stand up, that's definitely Skrillex. Also his music videos are awesome. The little girl and the pervert. Santa taking pills and getting into fistfights. The hoodlums robbing the ice cream truck and growing up to rob the jewelry truck. I have a bunch of hippy friends who like EDM but they listen to all that slow hippy crap too. They ask me how I listen to EDM constantly and I tell them their slow hippy crap puts me to sleep.
Edit: hell now that I think about it there is more wobble in any of Nero's songs than in Deadmau5's songs. Allot of times I have to hear a Deadmau5 song a few times before I really enjoy it cause most of them are so damn slow.

It's the kids who don't know good music and want to be cool and different that are driving this microwaved turd up in the charts.

Judgemental, closed mind? Can't understand why anybody else would like something that you don't? Yes, I see.

Hahaha, no. I'm about the least judgmental person you can find. Take a gander at the "what are you listening to" thread. I post everything. All kinds of music. Music that isn't in an English tongue, too. I listen to it all. Anybody that follows that thread can attest to that.
Let me ask you. Do you even know what dubstep is? Where it came from? Who started it? It's not something new. Been around for many many years. Good music. Comes from a genre of EDM I like, DnB, from London. It's the recent **** that is just that, ****.
Look, there's plenty of people that like bad music. Look at sales for Nickelback. Does that make me judgemental cause I say it's bad music? Nope. Cause the fact still stands, it's bad music.
It's something new to you and the rest of the kids that like it. That's all. Skrillex is a fad. A cancer. And whatdaknow, he got it. Literally. I feel just as bad about his plight as I did when I heard Jobs was getting sick. Bad people ruining a good thing for people who don't know any better

Your oversimplifications are funny to me. I know what dubstep is, and where it came from. Same with Drum & Bass. It's not new to me and I'm not a kid, I'm 26. You can like and dislike whatever you want, but putting someone else down for what they dis/like is being judgemental and closed minded, and rude. I'm done with this conversation, your stuck on dumb ****. Goodbye.

Hey everyone, yesterday I started my blog. It's sort of like theultralinx, but it also covers important world news and other stuff. It's a Wordpress blog, so if any of you like stuff about cars, electronics, photography or are heavy themers of your devices follow me and you might be surprised. I just want to drive some traffic to the blog. I added the "linx" to show that ultralinx inspired me
Thanks

I have a pretty popular blog that could, I guess, mention your blog and make it more popular. PM me if you want to discuss, ahem, 'advertising'
