I was removing apps using Titanium Backup and removed the contacts app by accident.. Its now just listed as com.android.contacts with a line through it :sad face: I'm not sure if it matters but I am using the new I897UCJH2 ROM.
I know I can get it back if I flash the rom but thought I'd see if someone could help me out.
Anybody care to help? Or let me know if its not possible.
Not a development question, post in general or themes & apps area.

I don't know if this is possible but I could backup my contacts app and send you the backup files. If you put them in the titanium backup folder you may be able to restore from it.
If anyone knows a way for me to backup the app as an APK file I would be happy to do so.

Well, I am not running JH2, but here it is from JF6 /system/app/contacts.apk
Any chance that's the stock Google contacts? Disliking what came with the Captivate..

I've had a Captivate since launch, and had a nandroid backup, but it just got replaced. Is there anything else I should copy to protect against flashing mishaps? I saw some comments in the dev forums about copying nv_bin or EFS to protect the IMEI, but it wasn't clear if that was necessary. Is that done using ADB?

I have never backed up my nv bin. I do not use kies though. If you use kies I would back it up, as to how, there are threads.
Back up your android id
Download, android id changer from market
Open app, click save id
When you flash you want to dl the app again, load id, click change.
All 2.2 roms give you a generic id which could cause market issues.
I can not tell from your post if you understand that you can not restore your nand backup onto the custom rom. DO NOT DO THIS
if you want your apps backed up use titanium backup. Only backup user apps no system info
Hope this helps

Thanks. Yeah, I have Titanium Backup Pro, and have been using it for custom roms. I just made the nandroid backup so I'd have it in case I needed to go back to what I had out of the box; the one time I restored it (to get my old android ID), I flashed back to JF6 using the odin one-click first. I was more worried about the more obscure stuff like nv bin.
for my last few roms that ive been using it has always said i dont have any apps downloaded from the market, then includes apps i restored and new apps that i have downloaded, how do i fix this?

Did you back up your android id when on stock
How do I know if I backed it up? What you said on top works but it doesn't stick for more than an hour untill I have to do it again

Honestly if you have to ask you probably didn't. Do you have a nandroid backup from when you were on stock

Are you experiencing issues with market? If so you can get your id back 2 ways. Back to stock, save it, flash rom, load saved, change.
If you have a nandroid of stock look in zip for I think dbdata file. Copy over to your pc. open text it with text editor. Search android_id. android it down. Change id using android id changer

look at this, you can read all about it.
with clockworkmod recovery.
it's realy the best way to backup you'r rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007863
You don't need to backup the ROM, but if you want to be able to recover all your apps and system data then pickup Titanium Backup from the market, and do yourself a favor and get the paid version its totally worth it. If you get the free version its slower, also you have to verify each app that it restores as it goes through the process. With the paid version its faster and you don't need to verify each app as it restores. Hope that helps!
titanium is only to backup you'r software.
wil not help if you mess up you'r rom
i want a thing to get back waranty it i need..

Hi,
Could you please explain hopw you did this. I have a couple of stock apps which I will never use and would like to get rid of them.
Cheers,
Fred
I suppose need to be rooted, then using either titanium backup or root explorer, backup the app first then remove.
Don't ever mess with the native email app. Many other apps are tied to this app.
hi guys.
I have the touchpad problem, is that I have deleted all the apps I had installed, is there any way to recover? :crying::crying:
thanks.
Well how did you delete them?

Again, how did you delete/erase them? I cant really help much without that info. The only way I can think of for deleting ALL your apps is to do a factory reset, in which case they are gone. Because thats the point of a factory reset. Another way is to delete the directory that the apps are in. Which also pretty much means they are gone. The only way to get deleted apps back is to either download them all from the Play Store again, or restore a backup if you made one. If you didnt make a backup, your apps are most likely gone. Sorry.

Boy! Talk about 'lost in translation!' He's unable to understand your problem/question. Why not try saying it in your own language, maybe a soul can understand your problem, help you solve it, and even translate your problem for anyone else that might have it.

Sounds like he was using titanium backup (or something similar) and instead of backing up, he deleted.
If that's what happened, if you hadn't made a backup previously, no idea how to recover what you deleted.
