whats next????? - Touch CDMA Android Development

so with the impending release of gingerbread and the need for a 1ghz processor, what is in store for us at that point???
any ideas or guesses?

Wait untill its out then we will see if theres a way to make it work smoothly.
I must say that these "OMG something in the future may be bad, lets look for new devices" - posts are a bit annoying.
I personally hope that this specs are only for the regular updatet android devices and that the devs will handle this.

I'm waiting for the wildfire to be cracked, then we could potentially port native froyo sense made for devices similar to ours

the 1ghz thing was never confirmed, engadget ran that story and the one guy from google said that they had no plans for minimum hardware requirements

Pretty sure it still runs Eclair, but either way. The wildfire build would be nice.

New Motorola MOTOBlur UI

Does anyone know if there is a leak of the new MotoBlur UI or rom? or if it's even possible to port to the G1? ... I know it was just annouced but there isn't a section for it and i wouldn't mind having some of the widgets and or features that have already been shown. Does anyone have any additional info on this besides what's already been released my motorola today?

i figured it would work in either section but it is development based b/c it is a new UI that hasn't been seen ... I was more or less tryin to spark interest into this.
Just in case someone didn't know, here some info http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/live-from-motorolas-android-announcement-at-mobilize-09/
Looks awesome, but i think the device only has the qualcomm ~550MHz cpu..
Waiting for the Motorola Sholes with Snapdragon, whoooo
As long as it runs on the Qualcomm architecture that the Dream/Magic/Hero etc. run on, there's no reason why it could not be ported to the Dream. Once it comes out, that is.
this will probably take months before its leaked and weeks before its usable

Hero STILL doesn't have bluetooth, based on past results, it's very very hard to port this stuff over in a usable manner. The devs are the best, but if we still don't have Hero working, what are the odds of us getting this one anytime soon?

I'd say there's a high chance of getting a full working version of "MOTOBLUR" on the G1 before a working version of Sense UI.
Of course nobody can comment before the phone/rom is released but at first glance it doesn't look like the core of android has been edited much, if at all. It's simply the stock android home screen with 2 extra shortcuts at the bottom and some new widgets.
Even the calendar app has remained the same.

go to this page and click on the MotoBlur Demo link on the right hand side to get
a full demo of the UI.
I like the fact that your "inbox" contains messages/gmails/fbook messages all in one list.
And it has the same screen res and 528mhz processor as the g1 so it shouldn't be too much work to get it on there. This is way more exciting than hero, cuz the hero roms are so slow

agreed i love the universal inbox as well as the Happenings screen/widget. even if that was all we got, i would be happy lol
what people need to realize is that its not about what official rom we want.. its what from each rom we want.. cause with the way devs keep taking things from all the new roms and putting into current ones.. all we need is to take the best from each and make one bomb rom..lol

devs havent got bluetooth to work cuz the hero source code is closed source. if motorola keeps the source code for the blur UI open, then devs have
all around access to not only port the build but framework, bluetooth, led's,etc.
i hope we get a system dump soon this UI looks real good.. i dont like all the colors but im sure manups work'll take care of all that

I don't know.
I think HTC don't develop any ROM's.
But we can develop some good ROM's.
Now we have to develop linux Debian .
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the interests you have with our product, the HTC Tattoo. I can understand how important it is to be able to fully utilize your device and be able to have the 2.1 Android Operating System.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no Update to the 2.1 Android Operating System Update. This Update will be sent to your device via email or text message when it is available.

Response I got from HTC.
In other words: this will never happen...
Let's see if FroYo really supports different screen resolutions...this would solve our problems in getting a decent upgrade...
Would HTC tattoo be able to run Froyo?

Yeah...Tattoo and Wildfire have all the same exept wilds 384 ram and tattoos 256 and screen is bigger i think like desire's...but same in resolution and thats our hope )

Wildfire is to Desire what the HD Mini is to HD2.
It is smaller, less RAM, lower res screen, slower CPU.
Still looks like it will be a top notch device though!

Resolution is not the problem... that works... the problem is camera and BT... but this is different in wildfire so no go.
If I don't see either a custom 2.1 working ROM (by working I mean everything working), or a RUU for 2.x from HTC, it'll be curtains for my HTC Tattoo. (I'll still build AzusaROM though and test the ROM on it until it bricks).
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus One at the end of the year.

Yeah, I thought so too, because since the Nexus is a Google Phone the new Android versions will be compatible with this phone for a long period of time I assume...
Hope is the best medicine for this sort of situation... Lets see devs at xda are trying hard to get it sorted..

android 2.2???

i was just curious if the hero was getting the 2.2 update? doesnt look like much of a difference but im still curious
It is highly unlikely that we will see an official release of 2.2, but the devs here on this forum will try to work on it. darchstar has already stated that when the 2.2 source is released and implemented into Cyanogen mod, he will port it over.
While it might seem that different, there are a lot of major changes, especially in speeed. The Market has an autoupdate feature in 2.2, Apps2SD is built in (but, I assume, it's not based on our same Apps2SD. Just the same function), and JIT is fully functioning and working as it should. The Nexus One running 2.2 runs almost 8 times faster than it does with 2.1, or so I've been told.
lol, let the 2.2 threads begin....
We barely got 2.1.
Im sure after the devs get froyo working, sprint will steal it, mod it slightly, leak it back out to the devs for them to tweak, and us to test, then sprint will release it officially about 6 months later, blaming htc for the hold up and it will still have tons of problems. Then the devs will figure out how to root it and sprint/htc will put out a update almost the next day to patch the root exploit.
Anyone else have a idea?

So would you say it will be an ......"extreme" improvement (har har har oh not funny). Yeah your right we'll probably never see an official release. Unlike tmobile who have said or rumored to say all their phones that can get it will.

Nope. I would, however, say it would be pretty Xtreme
I would love to see 2.2 on my Hero. Especially because that would mean I could go into Sprint and show them that my Hero is running faster than their EVO
thanks for the feedback guys. yeah i was watching videos of the nexus one running 2.2 and that thing was blazing fast!!!
i sent HTC a message last night asking if the hero was going to get the 2.2 release and this was there response...
(Hello Chris, Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support about your device. Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards. At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com.)
So basically "We don't feel like it"

Will the nook get some honey?

Here is a thread that will be all about speculation..
I saw the honeycomb and it was smoking!!! What are the chances that the guys here will get it on the nook? And if yes, how it will run? Given that it only have a 800Mhz processor (1Ghz overclocked).
Looking forward for any opinions
I hope so, but that's a good bit away. Honeycomb uses on screen buttons, so our hardware button deficiencies would go away, if it were possible.
IIRC, Honey requires a 1Ghz processor. If we can get the overclocked kernels working with the five 9's of accuracy, then its possible. I really would like for there to be a way to strip out the nooks reader and shop apps for B&N so that I can keep the books and magazines that I've purchased. Thats pretty much a prerequisite for me.

There are no mandatory hardware requirements for honeycomb, but it will certainly run a lot smoother at 1ghz+

That's true and the more and more limitations are taken away as launch approaches..
I have no doubt it will run well, but also wonder if anyone will create a Nook version..

Well, this is just my opinion of course...
It will still be some time before we even see a 2.3
3.0 will not be out for a while and by the time that happens newer, faster, better, tablets will hit the market and catch everyone eye..
People may flock towards the newer tablets and leave the older ones behind..
I don't want to say it will never happen, but it is possible we won't see a 3.0 if the developers flock to newer tabs..
One thing is for sure, you will not see an official version from B&N.. I have my doubts there will even be an official 2.2 from them.
Is it bringing something amazing to the table? Haven't even bothered looking at honey just because the GUI stuff everyone likes looks ugly as hell.
Nook color was my first android device so I prefer the simple notification bar at the bottom, as well as using a taskmanager to kill/switch apps.

I hope you realize that the fine folks at Cyanogen are already working on a NC version of CyanogenMOD version 7 -- which is a Gingerbread (2.3) rom. Some of their best devs are on it, and they've even gotten it to boot already!
So, don't be surprised when you see 2.3 sooner, rather than later...

[Q] Honeycomb Performance Questions

For those brave souls using Honeycomb daily on their Nooks, what kind of tweaks are you doing to help with performance/compatibility?
Thanks in advance!
Bot
I'd also like to know if there are tweaks you can do to makc HC stable/perfered for the nook, anyone using it full time?
If you already have it installed on the eMMC with an overclocked kernel you have done all you can do.
Honeycomb development pretty much died the day Google said that their was going to be no source code release. We might never see a "stable" Honeycomb for the Nook Color.
With that said, many people has been working on making Froyo and CM7 better in Honeycomb's absence. I personally think the Tablet Tweaks CM7 version is more useable than even the Honeycomb on a Xoom I tried (at least our SD card slots work), and for people who are DYING for Honeycomb there is the NookieComb which is Froyo hacked to act like Honeycomb.
Take a look at the development forum for more information.
you can turn off all transition animations to get a bit of a speed boost...also opera mobile is much faster (but not as nice) as the HC browser
im running it off emmc and its actually very stable for web/reading...video isnt great yet and there is a bit of UI lag but IMO very usable...
I thought Google said they just delayed the 3.0 release. I read into that that 3.0 is a disaster right now and they are still trying to make it a clean product. I think Ipad is scaring them and they are moving into overdrive at Google trying to get ahead (meaning 3.0 came out before it was really ready).
I totally agree. Google doesn't want to let a half baked product out the door when you know the ipad 2 will be stellar.

The head developer of Android has said that AOSP won't be released until the phone features are merged, which means no code until Ice Cream.
So if the original ETA for Ice Cream was summer 2011, then I guess we see nothing until at least Christmas?
Meaning that Android tablets have been dealt a death blow for <b>another</b> year?
I am so glad for the independent developers working so hard at XDA.

I don't think Google minds -too- much that they are slowing down tablet development anyway. They've made it clear they want the "final solution" for tablets to be ChromeOS. Android for tablets is just a stop-gap measure.

Is there any advantage to the overclock kernel? I have the regular kernel running at 1100 with CPU Tuner (unless the overclock kernel comes in v2 by default)
