only way to unlock bootloader is from adb
unlock bootloader gives you fastboot capabilities, and im guess more now wish i knew what they where.. i also have root n1 with lock bootloader..and i plan to keep it that way.. you can try the kang o rama rom

Unlocked Bootloader

I just rooted my Nexus One by way of super one click method without any issues. Have root, superuser permission, busybox, titanium backup. I do noot have the open lock when phone boots up so my bootloader is not unlocked. My question is this, (probably dumb but) Can I still nstall the cyanogenmod rom from Rom manager??? I have the paid version of Rom Manager and didn't want to unlock the bootloader if I didn't have to.
Thanks,
Vinny
Nexus one 2.2.2 FRG83G
PS I going to try CyanogenMod 6.1.1
You don't have bootloader unlocked, but since you have root, you can install CyanogenMod using Rom Manager.
It's not absolutely necessary to unlock bootloader in order to install customized rom. Unlocking bootloader is just the "official" way to let you install customized rom

From Sony To HTC One, Utterfly Confused

Hi guys. I shifted from my old Sony Xperia Sola to the beautiful HTC One and I'm loving it. The phone was gifted to me and is from from Singapore (or perhaps bought in one of those countries around there). The problem is that I'm just not getting the Android 4.2.2 update (OTA or software). Here's what I intend to do:
- Download International HTC One Andorid 4.2.2 Stock ROM
- Boot into HTC One stock recovery
- Flash Android 4.2.2 Stock on my HTC One
Questions:
1. Do I need to unlock my bootloader for this? From my experience with Sony, I shouldn't need to do so. For Sony phones there's FTF, for HTC phones there's (what? Is it RUU files?)?
2. Can I make this update on stock ROM?
3. Can I install CWM without unlocking bootloader and ROOT my phone as well?
Would really appreciate some help, just links to the respective threads and I'll take it from there.
Thanks!
You need unlocked boatloader for custom recovery , root , flashing , if I were you I'd fist s-off then do the following.

When you say you want to flash stock ROM, do you actually mean official 4.2.2 or are you talking about a custom Stock ROM like ARHD? ... If you want to flash a custom ROM you will need a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM. If you want to flash an RUU then you will need to be S-Off to flash anything other than the one meant for the region the phone came from.
Your bootloader needs to be unlocked to flash custom recovery, also, if you decide to flash something like ARHD which is the best custom ROM IMO (and is almost completely stock but with a few improvements) then it already has root built into the ROM. Just unlock your bootloader, install custom recovery usng fastboot and then flash a ROM using CWM or TWRP, whichever you install.
Check these threads for any info .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023 ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618

My phone software (.407) belongs to the India region. And I want to flash the official Android 4.2.2 ROM for the Indian HTC One version.

Alternatively, I'm considering flashing ARHD. Doesn't matter if I'm using an Indian region variant right? (GSM)
So I need to:
- Unlock the bootloader
- Install Recovery
- Flash ROM
That's it correct? I lose all the information in my internal storage or it stays? (I mean in the 32GB internal storage)
Also, can I lock bootloader and go back to official ROM at any stage in the future?

Yep, unlock your bootloader which will wipe your internal storage so backup to your pc first if there's things you want to keep. Install a custom recovery using fastboot and then you can just flash any ROM, ARHD is a very good choice btw lol.
If you want to return to stock then check the second thread in my previous post, but yes, you can flash a stock ROM like in the thread I mentioned, install a stock recovery, re-lock your bootloader and then you should be good to go as far as OTA updates etc.
This is assuming you are S-On btw, S-Off requires different steps for what I mentioned and I am not familiar with that way at all as I'm S-On. What I mentioned above is exactly what I did when I reverted to stock to receive the recent 4.2.2 update in the UK
I don't know which files you need to restore to stock as the thread is for the European version of the One and I don't know how your version differs but someone will be able to advise you more on that . The process is the same though if you are S-On, I'm just not 100% sure what custom ROM or stock ROM you would need for your variant of the ONE so best let somebody more knowledgeable take over from here lol
Good luck.
Phew. S-On S-Off, Sony phones are a hell lot simpler! Thanks a ton!

[Q] hi too many qs about verizon htc one

hi
i bought a verizon htc one and am using it in the simple mobile prepaid network. its on android 4.2.2 with software number 1.10.605.10. since i dont have a verizon sim it wont update to the latest jellybean ota. my questions
1) how should i start off rooting and s off it
i was thinking rumrunner----> change the tampered to unlocked-----> flash recovery twrp-----> flash stock +su
2) in the end i want the stock android 4.4 with sense 5.5 rom, the unlocked version
so should i first flash verizon software 2.10.605.10 ------> update the firmware via fastboot-------> flash the stock 4.4 unlocked edition rom
3)if i flash the verizon 2.10.605.10 will i lose touch control when coming from 1.10.605.10? then how will i be able to get to fastboot to flash firmware? or should i flash the firmware first then the rom?
4) can i flash the android 4.4 sense 5.5 rom for unlocked htc one taken from http://htconeroot.com/htc-one-stock-roms/android-4-4-kitkat-sense-5-5-stock-rom-for-htc-one/ . will it work in my phone?. i am not using verizon sim.
5) if i need to return my phone for warranty and need to be back in stock 1.10.605.10. how should i go about it?
is it
change from unlocked to locked ----> flash the ruu as rom.zip ------> change to s-on.
if i follow that method where do i get the 1.10.605.10 rom is it from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=248531 ?/
also if i flash the 1.10.605.10 rom, how will i flash the firmware back, since the newest firmware wont work on the old rom?
please do give me a reply. i have been searching the forums for replies and its all confusing.
thanks a lot

I don't know about the verizon variant but here for the international variant you need to be bootloader unlocked and rooted to s-off with rumrunner. Maybe your version of rumrunner are using an exploit that can achieve s-off without unlocking bootloader, idk.
and for the others questions, unfortunately, I'll says just wait for someone else to jump in this thread because im not familiar with the verizon variant.

Have att m7 need some help

I'm a veteran with Android. I know adb and fastboot. But I came from a moto RAZR maxx HD. I'm on kk 4.4.2 I havent yet unlocked or s-offed BUT I have all the files on my device. Do I download the latest ota after I unlock and s-off and flash it? Then twrp and Roms or are their more steps? And I want to use the CDMA radio to what do I need to do. I never use stock Roms always custom.
I'm not really understanding the question too well, but here's what I can tell you:
I think you should be able to install OTAs after you Unlock/S-OFF, but not after you install a custom recovery or custom ROM
You should be able to use cellular on most ROMS, but make sure it supports Sprint/Verizon or whatever you use
Sorry if this doesn't help :silly:
Thanks that helps some. This may be a stupid question but do I have to be on the 5.0.2 bootloader to flash the latest roms

If you phone is still locked and untouched then leave it like that. Update it before doing any modification. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe /data including /data/preload which is a folder containing some stock HTC apps. These apps are updated during an OTA and if they are missing, the ota installation will fail. You don't need s-off to flash custom roms, only an unlocked bootloader.
And I want to use the CDMA radio to what do I need to do.

What is your phone variant? Can you post a "fastboot getvar all"? If its a GSM (M7_U or M7_UL) then you can't use CDMA.
Your phone must be running a 7.xx.xxx.xx firmware to flash custom roms based on Lollipop/HTC Sense. CM based roms should run fine even if your firmware is up to date.
I had to move on to a Verizon note 3, but thank you for the help guys. Best of luck to you guys

Downgrade pie to Oreo??

I done it before on s9+ but i have read on some sites, that bootloader must be the same, my bootloader has the '7' bootloader but want to run a Oreo rom (exykings oreo light rom) can i just flash after clean flash, or is it not possible?
Thank you

Not possible, you already answered yourself because you know you can't downgrade the bootloader and you can't run Oreo using the Pie bootloader.. If you're on an F version of the phone then you should be able to flash twrp and then flash whatever you want I'm assuming.

If you want to downgrade from Pie - N950FXXS"7"DSG1 to Oreo - N950FXXS"6"DRE2 you CANNOT do it because the bootloader ver "7" won't allow itself to be downgraded to lower versions "6",5,4,3,2, and 1! You're stuck on PIE!
(The Number in Quotes is the bootloader version. )
If you root your phone you can try to see if the custom oreo rom will boot with bootloader version "7" by asking and searching in the custom rom (that you choose to run) thread.
Root does come with a few cons like permanently tripped knox, No Samsung pay, and no knox related apps so read up on it.
(You will lose secure folder and Samsung health if you go back to stock firmware! But if you stay rooted and on a custom rom then you'll have access to Samsung health and secure folder (Devs found a way to get secure folder working! Check the note 8 roms forums for info on it.)
Edited.....

Read @BluePhnx post.. I already told you that you can't downgrade but you can root and flash twrp and then flash whatever roms that the devs have made for bootloader version 7! There's really no going back!
