new nexus1. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Let me start by saying I currently own a rooted evo and have flashed many roms, kernels, and such. My girlfriend just purchased a used nexus 1. The phone is/was rooted, but the previous owner kept the sd card. Can I just install a new sd card and maintain root? Do I need to reinstall a new recovery? Where should I start? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone may have to offer.

My mistake there is a sd card in it. Only a couple files on it labeled android and such. Cyanogen is currently running on it. When I boot into recovery there no install from zip option or anything like that. Rom manager is still on the phone. How can I reinstall clockwork mod recovery options?

Just tap the first box you see, 'install clockwork mod recovery'

Awesome thanks for your help. That's what I thought but wasn't sure if I had to install to the as card first. Thanks again!

Stuck on N1 logo but not bricked

I searched before I posted this question since I know it is a common question but I can't seem to figure out the problem with my phone.
I recently just bought it and I decided to root it. I following the instructions from wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod When I went through the instructions, everything went through smoothly. No errors, all were complete installs but my Nexus One is stuck at the boot screen now. I waited for over 20 minutes but it wouldn't budge at all. I've done the procedure after "fastboot oem unlock" and "Flash CyanogenMod" already but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The flash that I'm currently using is the update-cm-5.0.5.1-N1-signed and gapps-passion-ERE36B-2-signed. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it or what do you suggest any steps I should take to fixing it?
I don't think my phone is bricked since I'm able to go into Bootloader mode and Recovery.
Try a wipe and if not reflash and re wipe.
Mine is doing this too and i did exactly what OP did
Even after a wipe. Im reflashing right now
5.0.5.2 has just been released. Apparently fixes this bug. get it while it's hot.
Its still taking forever to boot. Im still watching it. What exactly do i do to do a "Wipe"?
Damn I don't have a microSD reader. =\
Is there any way to put the ROM on the microSD via Nexus One?
I'm having the same problem. This is on the recently released ATT compatible N1. I am able to go into Amon_Ra's 1.7 recovery and successfully install the V5.0.5.2 and gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip but still have the same problem. Stuck on the X with the lock. I keep putting the original Rom back and doing it again after a full wipe and still have the same problem.
you dont have your usb cable? I was thinking about that too. Cause i know the nexus has its own memory internally but it doesn't show up under my computer. maybe you can push files through command prompt or something. or on linux
If you have the Amon_Ra's recovery you can do a wipe once you're in recovery.
If you made a backup of the original rom you can just put that back and boot into the original rom. once there, you can mount the usb and download it to the sdcard
you can also download the cyanogen updater from the android market and download the rom to your sdcard to install.
What did the trick for me was fresh install of Cyanogen 5.0.5 which i got to boot succesfully AND THEN use cyanogen updater to get to 5.0.5.2

2 ways, either plug it in via usb and mount it from your notification bar on the phone, or download the rom via the web browser on your phone, then use Astro file browser(free) to move it from downloads to the root folder of your SD card, then flash from recovery.

How long does it usually take to restore? I have about 18 lines of dots. Should it be taking this long?
5.0.5 first then update
Install the base 5.0.5 first then the google add on if you want the apps. After you boot like that update to the latest CM. I saw this some other place and this worked for me, don't wanna take anyone's credit.
Thanks everyone. 5.0.5.2 worked flawlessly once I was able to put it on my microSD.
If you guys don't have a MicroSD Reader, and have the AmonRA recovery, just boot to the recovery and chose I think the 3rd option (Toggle MS USB). You'll be able to see the phone as a mass storage device.

Flashable zip?

I have benn "flashing" roms for many many years. I'm used to the 'recovery' install method. But now I am being asked to create a special sd card to install some roms.
I have tried many times to get this to work.... to no avail. So I've given up.
Are we ever going to see an HC rom I can install from my device?
Thanks
Matt
The thing is that in order to install some of these ROM's, you have to wipe System & Boot, so it would wipe your recovery before being able to install the ROM.
So by burning a recovery on the SD card, it allows you to install the ROM's.
Btw, you need to post this in the General section, but I'm sure the thread will either be moved or deleted.
What method are you using?

the sd card this is confusing at first but it is so much easier
i installed HC on my nook using a CWM bootable sd card and an update.zip provided by samualhaff, i didnt even have to root my stock copy to install HC

Stuck at exclamation triangle after running rom to install from sd card. Og droid.

After running rom manager to install from sd card it asks for backup and wipe and reboots to my original stock rom. Im confused. Im rooted have superuser, busybox. I try to manually boot into recovery and it keeps sending me to the exclamation point screen. I can only get into manual recovery after reflashing clockworkmod. When i try to manually flash the rom no .zip files are visible on my sd card. Noob and confused any help would be greatly appreciated. Tring to get over the hump on this initial flash. Used superoneclick to root.

I have the moto droid 1. Stock build is FRG83D running 2.2.1 As i described earlier i am rooted with superoneclick 1.7. When try to flash the rom Buglessbeast ( FRG83DV0621.zip) from the rom manager (install from sd card) it asks for reboot and install, it goes through process, asks for back up and wipe permission. Reboots to stock rom.
I'm actually having the exact same issue. Same Phone, Same Firmware, Same Root process, same point with Rom Manager. Only difference is I'm trying to install Cyanogen. Wierd though, because I had just done it successfully with no problems at all, but now I'm running the process with my friend's phone and I'm having the exact same issues as you.

Pls help me flash a clean Vanila ROM...

Hi All
Received my LG 2X today and so far no random reboots or freezes etc except ONE reboot when I tried to install Swype keyboard but that was before I updated to V10D via LG's software update. Hope it stays that way!
Anyway I would like to install a clean Vanila 2.2 or if available a 2.3 ROM but I have never flashed a Android phone before.
I understand I will have to first root my phone which seems easy enough but what do I need to do after that?
And what if I want to go back to the stock LG ROM, is there one availabe or will I have to back it up somehow?
If someone would be please kind enough to provide a step by step guide then I would be most grateful or even just post links to what I need to do/install in the correct order that would be great.
Many thanks.
Hey,
It's actually not that hard .
First root your phone
Do you have an external sd card in your phone?
If so go to the market and download:
Rom manager> when you open rom manager click the flash button
Make sure you allow superuser
When the phone is flashed you can start downloading roms
And put them on the external sd card.
Then reboot into recovery via rom manager or reboot the phone during startup using power + vol down
The recovery menu is pretty straightforward.
Make a backup then do a full wipe, on my first install i wiped every thing in the menu with wipe in front of it
After this click install rom from sd card and then find rom on sd card
If something goed wrong you can go back to your backup, so just give it a try
P.s. Damn thats alot of work on the phone to type
@other ppl please tell me if i forgot something

About the External SD Card, i could not flash any rom from external..
only from internal SD card..
I believe thats not possible, if you click something like inatall zip from sd card it should go to ext card?

Possible Brick

I was trying to create a dual boot SD Card and I think I bricked my Nook.
First, I flashed Phiremod to my card and everything was successful. There is an option to "add" CM7 and I tried that and thought it didn't work.
Later I flashed Divine Madcat's Honeycomb Hybrid to my SD card and it is running successfully.
I popped out the SD card to run the Nook OS and nothing. Instead I have the load screen for CM7.
What do I do to get the Nook OS back and is it possible to just flash another rom to my SD. HELP!!! What's a man to do?
Thanks!

I'm unsure as to how you went about this. What method are you using to install these roms? Are you using the dualboot phiremod/honeycomb .img? And what option are you talking about "option to add CM7"?
Need some clarification so I can help troubleshoot ur issue.
Thanks,
Racks

In the section of Rom Manager there is a menu to add roms. I added CM7 and nothing happened... or so I thought. It told me to add through clockwork recovery.

If you try to flash through rom manager. It will flash to your emmc and not ur sdcard rom . So it probably have written over your emmc boot and system files.
Did you flash the CWM Recovery through rom manager as well? If you did. That will overwrite your stock recovery. So you wont be able to do the 8 failed revolts to return to stock.
Check in the dev threads for steps to restore your nook to stock rom.

Ok thanks... I'm new to the whole rooting thing. I figured it had flashed to the internal memory. I finally got the boot screen off and I have a fully running CM7 on my Nook. Looks just like Phiremod minus a few features. I'll look to restore back to stock in the other forum.

it's actually the other way around. Phiremod is based from CM7.
