So i reflashed my rom with odin but i forgot to take out the sim now the phone says no signal even when the sim is not inserted. I have tried to flash again with no luck.
Originally i was on jm5 i re flashed to JM2 (this time with repartition) but no i have no signal. Have i broken the phone?
anyone pls!
I had the same problem.
The youtube videos all tell you to only input the PDA file. After flashing only this, everytime I started up I wouldn't get a signal. I thought I had an expensive paperweight on my 1st day.
However, try flash ALL the files at the same time. CODE_XXX goes into PDA, then MODEM_XXX into PHONE, and CSC_XXX into CSC. Make sure they are all ticked, select re-partition, and set it going.
Be warned that some of the later firmwares are Russian, but once your SIM is in and recognised it should automatically change the language to English.
This fixed my problems, haven't been scared to flash since
If this doesn't work, you can always just flash the old PDA of JM5 back. That originally fixed the problem for me, before I had the guts to try it all over again.
It worked1 i love you.
I'm sorry to reactivate this topic, but i have the same issue as well. I tried flashing a stock rom on my SGS but after it was completed, i couldn't get ony my network (Orange). I tried also flashing Darky's 8.0 and still nothing. Even with Hy2teria's suggestion. I don't know what else to do.
Please help me!
Regards
LE: After removing BOTH the SIM card and the SD card, the phone connected to my network succesfully. FYI

thanks friend i flashed much rom stock and hard reset not solved
make sure via secret code *#06# if there´s an imei still showing, if so make sure it is the correct/original one. If the imei is not showing or it is a different one, you got a real big problem. I know of no solution in this case other than sending it in.
Hopefully you backed up the efs folder prior to flashing. If so, find nv_data.bin and drop it into the /efs folder found in the root directory of the internal sd card.
If you hadn´t backed up the efs do this: delete (!) the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 in the /efs folder. In the same folder there should be 2 files with the same name and a .bak at the end. These are back ups, too, which will be restored after a reboot. If you are lucky the .bak-files aren´t corrupt yet and will restore the correct nv_data.bin.
Hope it works for you

Hello every body,
I have a little big problem, i flashed my samsung galaxy S with I900XWJM5 from samsung firmwares.com
And after flashing my phone loose his BASE BAND so i can not call anymore, i inserted my simcard but the phone don't detect it.
I checked phone information and discovered that BASE BAND VERSION was " unknown " !!!
I tried to flash back to original firmware the I9000JF3 but same thing. I tried to flash only the MODEM part but still samething.
I called samsung technical and they told me to check in ODIN the case " Re partition " and flash again. But in Odin when i cheked the case " repartion" the flash hangs on " don't plug off target "
I tried to flash with a new computer under win xp, but same thing i can not do " repartion " with Odin
My mobile is not simlocked when i bought it, is my phone network dead ? PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ?
Did you try updating the firmware through Kites? Also, try flashing it again with ODIN, after selecting all the 3 files - modem, code and csc.
You need to try with "Re-partition." until it works.
Also make sure you are using a 512.pit file.
and do not forget to take ur battery off and put it back before you try to run ODIN...

You would have to do that to remove the SIM anyway.
Make sure you remove SIM and SDCARD.

Unrelated, but what is the reason for needing to remove the simcard (I have never done so)
Thank you every body for your help
befor this problem i use to flash with Odin 3 firmwares and had no problem.
But now i can not tick the case " Re partition " to solve the problem. I called samsung technical service and they told me to do a full " Re partition " and flash again.
The problem now is that i can't do repartition, because the flash hangs at " don't take off target" and nothing happen.
may be the phone had serious problem with memory, i had to sent back to samsung after service .
Thank you all
I have the same problem. I have flashed many times with different firmware versions, but it didn't work. My phone couldn't attach network, I couldn't see neither IMEI nor Baseband version.
try just flashing the modem file until it works
the modem file is what controls the radios

During the flash it may take the SIM as part of the hardware and ignore it once it's done flashing.
You'll have to reflash without the SIM to get it to work again.
It's not a real issue, but if you are failing with Odin I highly recommend sticking to those recommendations.
Also remove all usb devices other then phone, mouse and keyboard. Had heaps of flashing problems due to external hhds sucking power while flashing. Now works 90% of time for me. Next thing you do is find a xp box and try again.

I've got the same problem. I am able to get JM8/JM4 (Kernel 2.6.29 [email protected] #2), and then whenever I try to go Froyo (JPM or JP6) I always end up with baseband unknown I did remove the sdcard and sim card - still the same thing, is there any solution to that thing ?
hi all
i thought i would attempt to flash my samsung s with the new beta froyo update.
i followed this guys tutorial.
( cant link to it sorry its the noobs guide with detailed instructions through kies and odin)
i used the odin approach
i managed to root the phone.
on reboot it asked for an unlock code (o2 uk) so i went on to try and follow the steps about unlocking it. which neither worked all the way through the steps.
on reboot it appears to have signal and in the about section it says i am onnected to the o2 network but when i try to make a call is says "data network not available with an ok button, which when pressed will return you to the ome screen.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Almost the same problem,
installed 2.2 update successfully, the phone worked for like 3-4 days very well and after that today i discovered "Emergency calls only"
so the question now is did i bought phone which later was reported stolen? or somehow i broke it?
Anyone have any idea?
hmmm, I have the same problem! In the status menu, the number is shown, but the network, says "unknown"
Hi! I have this exact same problem except I was unlocking my phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906255
But I didn't back up my Efs folder, now my phone is unlocked but when I put a sim card in it I have very little network and when I try to make a call I get " NO DATA NETWORK AVAILABLE".
I've tried everything but I don't know what to do!
I was thinking of two ways to fix it:
1. Reinstall froyo (not quite sure how using the samsung software as my laptop oesn't recognised the phone as a pone)
2. Downgrade to, get unlock code using market app and then upgrade to froyo again.
I know I messed up but now I really need to fix this.
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me out.

might need to change the modem in odin i think. just heard about it
did u try restarting the phone... just a wild guess...
I had the same issue before and was puzzled. Its actually a very simple solution:
1. Re-lock your phone, search through xda there is a code you have to enter
2. Unlock your phone
All done! Surprisingly easy
Try the Odin method in block 2 back to Eclair if ok then upgrade to Froyo .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
However your non connection might be due to not flashing a firmware with your network settings in which case manual settings of APN .
If your IMEI has changed due to flashing and you did not back up your EFS folder then little hope but do a google / search of XDA as some have reported success .

Emergency calls only
I had a custom rom that was giving that to me too. I think it means that you can access a network different from your sim (because usually emerg calls can be made from any phone I think?).
I'd try and find a rom that is optimized for your carrier or at least a modem file from a stock rom that is for your carrier. You may also need to reselect the APN settings (or enter them for your carrier). Its under settings/wireless and network/Mobile networks/access point names (use the menu button to add an APN).
you could also try re downloading and flashing the rom to make sure that is the issue. Mine said it installed OK but never booted up, redownloaded and reflashed and then it was fine but the install screens looked identical.

Hi! Thank you so much for everyone's replies!
My IMEI isn't changed and someone helped me check my efs files and they are all ok. I'm going to try and reflash froyo through the samsung software to see if the network lock comes back and then try to unlock again. For this I'm going to unroot the phone and follow samsungs' instructions.
I'm afraid to relock the phone as there are reports that say it completely messes everything up!
But I'll keep you guys posted! Wish me luck!!!!
PS. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
So, a quick update on my situation.
I uninstalled busybox and unrooted my phone using the oneclick root tool.
Did a factory format and, surprise surprise, my phone now works perfectly!
Apart from the fact that it doesn't connect to kies, but that's a whole another issue!
Tank you so much to all of you who answered my cry for help!

Hello everybody, I hace a Galaxy S from Movistar (Spain) and I have tried to update to Froyo from its first beta version. I always get the same error. All works fine (maket, wifi, keyboard) but the SIM card is not detected. The phone starts and no ask me for PIN code.
Yesterday I tried the new froyo and got the same error.
Now I'm working fine with JM8 and JM4 modem (and of course the SAME SIM card).
When I updated to froyo first time with the beta version, I got an operator error code. I downgraded, all work fine and after taht I free my phone.
Could anyone help me to jump to froyo?
Kind regards
I doubt the operator thingy has got something to do with reading the actual card instead of just not recognizing his network. =/
Hardware- and softwarewise, you always get you pin verification, .. unless it's broken or you're missing a phone part?
I use the SAME SIM card with JM8 and other phones without any problem
I had this problem for the first time last night when I flashed to JP6. I finally got it working again by deleating the /efs/nv_data.bin and the /efs/nv_data.bin.md5 files (making sure the sim card is not in the phone when doing it)
I think the phone recreates those files from it's backup file. I'm a total noob at this and you might want to make sure this is correct before deleting anything. Is your product code correct?

WATCH OUT WHEN DOING THAT.. You don't want to accidentally corrupt your IMEI (and I suspect doing that may cause that)

Thanks for the warning. I managed to take a copy of everything before doing it. I made the mistake of not doing this at the very begining before flashing the JP6 update and have now lost the correct CSC info for the UK, but at least I kept my IMEI
The search continues
I will try at home this night
My SIM card is not readable on a JM1, coming from a JF3... im clueless
Hi, where do I find those files so that I can delete them. I am unable to get my SIM card recognised either! im on Vodafone UK
Hi everybody.
I got this weird problem with my cellphone. I have an international I9000. after factory reset my phone doesnt recognize sim anymore. I tried it with other sims too but my efforts were not successful. I tried flashing with other roms but again nothing happened. what am I supposed to do now? have you ever had the same problem?
Manual setting of network details or a new sim .

Hi I had the same problem with my I9000 might be a different cause but its worth a try. Iv had it in tje past with other phones so I apolagise if I start abit basic but I dont know how tech savy you are not to nention we all sometimes overlook the basics.
first the basics. if you havnt already done any of there.
clean your sim, wipe the contacts clean then use a dry cloth or tissue and ensire it is dry. while the sim is out take a look at the sim slot check the pins are in the correct position so they are streght and not too far inside the housins to contact the sim properly.
if all is clean and good and it still dosnt work i would reccomend testing your sim in anothere phone even if locked most phones will at least say 'sim rejected' , 'wrong sim' or something along the lines also if possible test another sim in your I9000.
Now the gritty bit if your sim workes it is most likely 1 of 2 things soft wear or hardwear which is why I asked to check the pins above if it is hardwear and the pins look ok I cant help but bellow it a solution to softwear caused problems. in my case the cause was a corrupt modem file it can also be caused by a mismatch between the modem, csc and PDA files you can check your file versions *#1234# i cant tell you which pda goes with which modem but im sure it can bd found.
solutions to softwear issues. the easy way is to use kies if you rom is can be updated or if you can trick kies into updating. the other more risky way is to use ODIN I down loaded a stock XXJPO with seperat csc modem and pit then used kies to update to XXJPY but it wotked again as soon as ODIN flashed the XXJPO.
In short use ODIN to reflash a rom ensure you use the full 3/4 file method there are only 2 differand pit files but use correct MODEM, CSC and PDA i found myne in the genral section

I've got the similar problem. My phone says "please put the sim card into the phone". This happened after I flashed Juwes 5.1 custom rom. My IMEI was corrupted after flashing, then I managed to restore it after I edited the nv_data.bin. Now I have an IMEI number, but the phone cannot recognize any simcard.
Reflashing to the stock rom with Odin doesn't help. I've already tried XXJVQ, now I've got XWJVI. Neither hard reset nor flight mode helps. I've already tried to delete nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 and reboot, but result is still the same. I cannot find any tipps for solution. Have you got an idea what could I try?
Here some information on my phone:

everything seems to bi OK but it doesn't work. I have already found a topic in your forum about SIM initilializing bug, and somebody suggested to flash the following ROM:

but its no longer available. EFS backup doesn't exist, as I deleted it some days before That was a big mistake.

Hi,
There was no need for you to flash to stock ROM after installing Juwe's ROM 5.1. I am currently on the same ROM and faced the same problem. All i did was flash the JVQ modem via odin and my device recognized the SIM card. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply. as I'm now on stock rom, I've already flashed the stock JVI with phone and csc over ODIN. But this didn't solve the problem.
The problem is solved, After restoring my IMEI I was stupid enough, to put the sim the wrong way into the phone Now its working. Thank you guys.
hi tuteary Vtd, what do you mean by "uproom"?? i have the same problem, could you please give some more information about your solution?
