Hello everybody, I hace a Galaxy S from Movistar (Spain) and I have tried to update to Froyo from its first beta version. I always get the same error. All works fine (maket, wifi, keyboard) but the SIM card is not detected. The phone starts and no ask me for PIN code.
Yesterday I tried the new froyo and got the same error.
Now I'm working fine with JM8 and JM4 modem (and of course the SAME SIM card).
When I updated to froyo first time with the beta version, I got an operator error code. I downgraded, all work fine and after taht I free my phone.
Could anyone help me to jump to froyo?
Kind regards
I doubt the operator thingy has got something to do with reading the actual card instead of just not recognizing his network. =/
Hardware- and softwarewise, you always get you pin verification, .. unless it's broken or you're missing a phone part?
I use the SAME SIM card with JM8 and other phones without any problem
I had this problem for the first time last night when I flashed to JP6. I finally got it working again by deleating the /efs/nv_data.bin and the /efs/nv_data.bin.md5 files (making sure the sim card is not in the phone when doing it)
I think the phone recreates those files from it's backup file. I'm a total noob at this and you might want to make sure this is correct before deleting anything. Is your product code correct?

WATCH OUT WHEN DOING THAT.. You don't want to accidentally corrupt your IMEI (and I suspect doing that may cause that)

Thanks for the warning. I managed to take a copy of everything before doing it. I made the mistake of not doing this at the very begining before flashing the JP6 update and have now lost the correct CSC info for the UK, but at least I kept my IMEI
The search continues
I will try at home this night
My SIM card is not readable on a JM1, coming from a JF3... im clueless
Hi, where do I find those files so that I can delete them. I am unable to get my SIM card recognised either! im on Vodafone UK

So i reflashed my rom with odin but i forgot to take out the sim now the phone says no signal even when the sim is not inserted. I have tried to flash again with no luck.
Originally i was on jm5 i re flashed to JM2 (this time with repartition) but no i have no signal. Have i broken the phone?
anyone pls!
I had the same problem.
The youtube videos all tell you to only input the PDA file. After flashing only this, everytime I started up I wouldn't get a signal. I thought I had an expensive paperweight on my 1st day.
However, try flash ALL the files at the same time. CODE_XXX goes into PDA, then MODEM_XXX into PHONE, and CSC_XXX into CSC. Make sure they are all ticked, select re-partition, and set it going.
Be warned that some of the later firmwares are Russian, but once your SIM is in and recognised it should automatically change the language to English.
This fixed my problems, haven't been scared to flash since
If this doesn't work, you can always just flash the old PDA of JM5 back. That originally fixed the problem for me, before I had the guts to try it all over again.
It worked1 i love you.
I'm sorry to reactivate this topic, but i have the same issue as well. I tried flashing a stock rom on my SGS but after it was completed, i couldn't get ony my network (Orange). I tried also flashing Darky's 8.0 and still nothing. Even with Hy2teria's suggestion. I don't know what else to do.
Please help me!
Regards
LE: After removing BOTH the SIM card and the SD card, the phone connected to my network succesfully. FYI

thanks friend i flashed much rom stock and hard reset not solved
make sure via secret code *#06# if there´s an imei still showing, if so make sure it is the correct/original one. If the imei is not showing or it is a different one, you got a real big problem. I know of no solution in this case other than sending it in.
Hopefully you backed up the efs folder prior to flashing. If so, find nv_data.bin and drop it into the /efs folder found in the root directory of the internal sd card.
If you hadn´t backed up the efs do this: delete (!) the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 in the /efs folder. In the same folder there should be 2 files with the same name and a .bak at the end. These are back ups, too, which will be restored after a reboot. If you are lucky the .bak-files aren´t corrupt yet and will restore the correct nv_data.bin.
Hope it works for you

^ top man ! muchos thankings
Just restart your phone, that worked for me
I9000XXJPC has become a major headache, and now the sim card won't work with other firmware. The first time I updated via Kies, everything was fine for a little while. After realising it's buggy, I went back to JG4 and renamed nv_data.bin etc..
The second time I installed JPC for a bit of a play around was via Odin, and that went fine, but still buggy firmare. This time when I went back to JG4, the sim card doesn't work properly. It asks for the PIN, sits on "Unlocking Sim Card" for a bit, then asks for the PIN again, saying it's incorrect. After entering the correct pin another 2 or 3 times, TWlauncher appears, but there is no service.
Odin didn't make a backup of nv_data.bin, but I had made a copy myself just in case. Restoring this does allow Kies to see the proper product code, but makes no difference with the sim card.
Is there anything at all I can try? It seems as though flashing JPC via Odin has altered more than just the /efs directory, but I don't know what. It might also be possible that anyone else on JPC will discover the same if they go back to 2.1, but I hope it hasn't done too much damage. I tried another sim card from another network and it's the exact same situation (works only with JPC).
To anyone who hasn't tried I9000XXJPC, don't! It's not worth the hassle.
Basically, sim cards now only works with JPC..what can I do? I have 3-button recovery, so can try just about anything if need be.

Thanks, I read and tried so much but somehow missed that. At least it's a known problem thanks.
Edit: I thought it had something to do with the dates of the files. hmmm now I'm stuck.
Dear experts, I need your help please!
After years of flashing and enjoying the know how in this forum, I got into serious trouble for the first time.
I flashed ICS333, and I guess, my IMEI was lost (0049...). But everything worked fine, so I didn't fix it. After a few weeks I got the known FC-bug of the ROM and reflashed it. The phone boot looped, so I had to do some wiping and reflashing. When I managed it to boot again, it didn't recognize my SIM card anymore, just as if it wasn't there.
Here is what I did already:
Checked the SIM card with another phone: Works fine.
Flashed a stock rom on SGS: SIM still not working.
Restored IMEI via Nitrality. Got a "new" one, different to "0049", but: SIM not working.
Erased the nv-Files in the EFS-Folder. Product Code is VD2 again. It was KOR before, and should be correct now as I am in Germany and Vodafone-Customer. But again: No SIM card detected.
Followed the instructions in the "Restore your IMEI"-Tutorials, even though it is restored already. Used Terminal, BusyBox, Ghost Commander. Didn't help...
As you can see I tried EVERYTHING I could find on the net in the last few days, and I am really exhausted and clueless now. Can anyone help me please!?!?
Please erase this thread. During all the IMEI- and country-code-trouble (that really occured, I swear!) I fixed the problem without knowing it. Because I inserted the SIM the wrong way constantly. This is sooo embarrassing. Shame on me for steeling your time! :/
Thanks for the laugh, this is highly amusing!
THANK YOU!!
I mean literally!! I had exactly the same problem as you! Never would've noticed it if it weren't for your story!
although i feel a little stupid right now
Please help
i have the same problem only i cant fix my imei, after flashing the phone it changed to 00499.. it made no nv_data.bin.bak
If the efs folder havent been backed up, what can i do? I tried changing the nv_data file like some tutorials here explain, but no luck(tried couple of times, it defently not compatible with my galaxy s3), i believe these tutorials are for erlier galaxies.
Please help!
Thank you

it sounds like the efs/imei directory is wiped or corrupted take a look at this thread, might be able to help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611796Its for the galaxy s2 but file directories are the same.
have they tried to update the phone back to stock firmware by using samsung kies? that may also work.

Yesterday dutch time 16:00 hours i had it back in my pocket, the t879, they did it...howe i dont know.
But...yes there is a but.
1) The t879 runs a i717 rom....and it has got no root acces, is that even possible?
But number 2) is there a conection between wifi turned on and the error called "no sim card"
In the 30hours i have it back most of the time @home (wifi on) "no sim card" and on the road (wifi off) no problem with the card.
Yesterday got myself a new sim card coz i had an old 1 that was 12 years old (dutch libertel ,former dutch vodafone) and i got the new micro sim card they told me it will take a couple of hours befor the new sim card be active...is it possible that coz it's weekend for vodafone that the new sim card wil be fully activated at monday when vodafone opens doors???
Greetz mike
I just got a used AT&T Vivid with what turns out are 2 anomalies that I failed to observe initially.
First I tried to put my ST sim card out my AT&T SGS, and get no service. No big shock initially since I have to change the APN info. Couldn't do that cause option is dimmed.Checked further, No IMEI, IMEI SV, or baseband. Took sim out and observed that I get NO sim error at startup, just "no service". Tried an AT&T sim from a friends Vivid, same result.
I was hoping that the sim card reader just might be bad, a cheap easy fix and apparently some what of a common issue. Haven't ordered one yet until I get more info on whether the no sim error and no IMEI etc are related and it's not a more serious hardware issue. I don't have a problem with repairing hardware if needed.I'm a noob here, but have a brain like a sponge, so any thoughts on how to proceed with diagnostics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
No imei is really bad...
No one here can help you recover it without a proper backup... I have no idea how to back it up nor restore...
If you don't figure it out I'd have to suggest flashing to stock... prolly via ruu and go to an at&t store...

I don't think (but don't know 4 sure) that this phone is anything other than an out of the box stock configuration. I don't have service with AT&T so I don't know how much help they would be. I did check with them to make sure IMEI printed on the phone wasn't blacklisted and it's OK. All I have done was to do a factory reset to clear all the PO's stuff.
Does anybody have any more ideas? I am wondering if I don't need to replace the motherboard and or just the simcard/sd part. Changing the motherboard would mean a different IMEI right?
No imei means something went wrong with the bootloader. It's unlocked? Did you try to S-OFF?
I believe flashing a rom stock via RUU (that's it, flashing the PD.zip file) maybe can fix the problem.
At worst you must change the motherboard and yes, you will have a diferent imei.
I may be wrong, but I see no sign that anybody has done anything to change ROM or anything else on this phone. I'll try to do a S-off, and unlock it since I want to use it on ST anyway.
hello,
i've also same problem here
flashed with stock rom but no luck ,
bootloader locked and s-off
searched forum but no success story
i think i'll return it
Well I finally got a new SIM/SD card reader and installed it. No change.Tried ST, AT&T, and T-mobile sims
Still get no SIM error when booting with or without a SIM card, has an X on signal strength, and it doesn't even say "no service".
Same as to IMEI etc. info, nothing shows up.
Am I going to have to change mainboard? Or is it possible firmware/ROM changes could fix it?

Unlocked the bootloader tonight, no problem. Will try s-off tomorrow.
Where can I get a stock rom file?
I'll only ask this dumb ? once: Is the OS (JB,GB,ICS) different than the rom? I'm still running gingerbread 2.3.4, should I got to ICS or? Will that have any affect on the imei issue?
I might just be getting some experience with this phone if I have to do it all over with another mainboard.
OK, so I decided to play with this phone again after my SGS1 was freaking out yesterday. I finally found and used a phone dialer code do download the ICS update, and it downloaded (via wi-fi), installed and rebooted fine. In fact It apparently fixed my IMEI and SIM card problems because when it booted the first time with ICS it showed a big icon "no SIM installed" ya hoo!! checked IMEI in settings, all was good. Played around with settings/menus a bit to familiarize myself with the differences, then restarted...NO IMEI again, and no sim error without any SIM installed On the next 5-6 restarts it worked fine all but once, (total on time of around an hour) but now every restart (10+) it's back to same original issue: no IMEI shown and no SIM error. I still have no AT&T compatible SIM card to really test it but if it doesn't give me a SIM card error (no SIM card installed) it's a moot point.
It really puzzles me that it appeared to work at all if I have a bad mainboard. My daughter in-law has a Vivid with a bad screen she's going to give me to use for parts (mainboard) but I'm not sure if there's not still some hope of salvaging the current one.
Comment, thoughts etc... Please
