My battery drains ready and if I unplug it at 6am it won't last me past 4pm. I use my phone lightly mainly just texting. On the battery usage app it says 92 percent beside the display. I use the lowest setting for brightness. I currently have andromeda 1.0rom on my rogers captivate. Previously I had the cognition 3.04 but still the same problem. I've tried deletingbattery stats through recovery menu. I also tried calibrating the battery. Wifi is used instead of mobile network. Gps is off. Bkuetooth is off. Emails set to push (i read somewhere that push is more energy efficient than autosync)
Could this be a hardware issue? Any idea on what I should do about my problem?
How much actual usage does your phone get? 10 hours of battery life is abnormal unless you have like 4 hours of screen time.

Well you can check your screen time by going into the battery stats then pressing Display.
Other than that, it'll tell you how long you've used voice calls and stuff as well.

ohhh, the only problem with that is that I restarted my phone 2 hours ago so I dont have the full data for this charge.

You can check your actual screen time by tapping the "Display" entry in the Battery Use screen. That will tell you how many minutes your screen has actually been turned on.
I have a similar problem: My screen seems to use a TON of battery power, and it's almost always over 93% or for battery draw. I don't see a huge difference in power use between minimum brightness and automatic.
I tend to use the internet and text/email heavily, but I'm wondering if even that could account for the insane battery use. Today, I unplugged my phone at around 6:40 am. By noon it was at 1%.
Before I started using custom ROMs, I could usually make it to 4 with what I considered heavy use. Now, I can't make it past lunch time. I've done the battery calibration, bump charging, deleted battery stats, and discharged the battery to shutdown before charging fully. The screen power draw has persisted through two ROMs and three kernels. I'm wondering if my usage pattern has just changed this much, because I can't find any hardware or firmware issue to account for this.

Yea our problem is pretty close, if not then identical. I'm using it moderately and its at 10% right now.unplugged it since 6am. Ive tried a lot of different methods to try to fix my issue to but still nothing.
A few minutes ago, I checked my battery use. Here's how it played out:
Unplugged for 58 minutes
Screen on time 28 minutes 3 seconds
84% battery left
92% of power used by the screen
Do these stats look normal for screen power draw? This is what I'd call heavy use (I've been reading forums), but should the battery be draining this fast?

I have no idea. thats what i want to find out. heres mine...
66%battery
9h27m52s since uplugged
display - 76% --- time on: 1h23m22s
wifi - 13% --- time on: 9h26m51s
cell standby - 8% --- time on: 9h27m42s
phone idle - 4$ --- time on: 8h4m29s
any idea? i slept at 3am and woke up at 930, but didnt charge the phone.
Before i slept the phone was around 72%, and when i woke up it was around 70%. from the time i unplugged it to the time i slept it went down from 100 to ~72% under moderate use.
are these numbers right to you?? the only thing i am worried about is my display consumption that seems to be killing the most. Also, wifi uses less battery than 3g/edge right? so i shouldnt have a problem leaving that on. even when im not using it.

That seems like regular battery life there. If your phone is reading your battery accurately, that means you would be getting almost 30 hours with pretty decent usage before it dies.

also, do you know if the timestamp on you batterystats.bin is supposed to change? is that normal? or does it mean my batterystats is wiping on its own?

I believe the timestamp is supposed to change with batterystats.bin being updated. The only way it is wiped is if the file is deleted completely.
And still, that seems about right to me. 3 hours of display is a fair bit. In a regular day I normally see about 30 minutes of display usage.

wow really? 30 minutes of display is like bascially not touching the phone at all.
Is there a reason why the battery usage does not show my voice call usages and my data uses (mobile data, not wifi)
I feel like my battery life is... Less than ideal.
I'm going to be doing a few tests, unfortunately, it seems like my battery dwindles very quickly in 30% chunks, according to JuicePlotter.
One thing I've noticed that helps a lot is disabling your data network in general, unless you plan on using it.. You can still send/receive texts and phone calls, and that's primarily what my phone is for. It helps save a significant amount of battery.

Unfortunately, because I am waiting for some emails i cannot turn off my data network. my data network is on when i cannot get a wifi signal. I also feel that this battery is not ideal. I cannot last for more than 10hrs unplugged time if i unplug it when i wake up. if I unplugged it before i slept it would be a different story for obvious reasons
again, any help is and will be greatly appreciated
Here's more stats (running Cog 3.04, Gen X 1.14 theme, stock kernel)
Unplugged for 16h 22m 40s
69% battery life
38% display: 41m 24s
23% voice calls: 29m 39s
21% wi-fi: 16h 22m 40s
13% cell standby: 16h 22m 40s
7% phone idle: 15 h 41m 16s
It seems like I can easily get around 40 hours of battery life here, but obviously I'm in the light usage market, although I do use my phone to make a lot of calls.
In the past, I found that running different modems and kernels (specifically DG's Firebird 2 kernel) drained my battery life faster. While I loved the extra power and features (Voodoo sound specifically) the drain on my battery life was not so hot (see above specs but my battery percentage would be closer to 30% than 70%). I recommend returning back to stock via ODIN, see what your battery life looks like, then adding a custom ROM, seeing what your battery looks like, then kernels, then modem. That way you'll find the source of your problem. If your battery still drains heavily on stock, try a different (possibly new) battery. If its still doing the drain, it's gotta be hardware related and you might need a new phone.

Interesting, I was at 18% battery after 2 hours 45 minutes of screen time. 93% screen, 3% wifi, 2% cell standby. I'm starting to think that a) the screen really does just use a lot of power and b) my battery is becoming deficient.

My battery indicator also drops from 100% to 96% a few seconds after i take out the charger. But after 2 days i stille have about 15% battery left.

My battery life increased after upgrading to gingerbread. I can usually go through the day (15 hours) with 3g always on, twitter and fb sync on, with light gaming and surfing of the web, 75% brightness.
My record was 2 days 9 hours with 0% brightness, no 3g, only wifi, no gaming, twitter and fb sync on.
For your percentage problem, you can try draining your battery, then when the phone shuts down, hold the power button to switch it on again. Start up an intensive app like a game to further drain the power. Do this until the phone does not start up (no bootscreen), then plug into the charger and charge overnight. DO NOT turn the phone on during the charge. When you turn on your phone after the overnight charge, it should read 100%
I am not too sure what triggers this, but its likely due to battery memory or something, although this should not be happening for lithium batteries. Maybe its a software fault. Do this every month or so to hit that 100% indicator. It is not advisable to do this all the time as draining the battery completely MAY damage the battery over time. Cheers!
How did you manage to get pass 2days of usage?

Hey,
I'm also having the same issue. Off the charger, BANG! 96% or so, sometimes more. My phone will be at 90% after like 3 texts. Its only had 5 charges mind you, I know there's a "conditioning" time but still, is this normal? I can almost say a text is a percent...my 3gs had more batt life after 1yr... now that's saying something...haha
I can almost watch it drain with the screen on...like 60 secs is a percent or 2...not cool...
Maybe I can do the "Desire Battery Calibration" procedure after a few more full charges...might make a diff...what do you guys think? I may be jumping the gun here...
Thanks in advance.
I remember someone said modern phones are designed not to keep on charging after reaching 100% and resume only after dropping to certain level, maybe 9x%. That could be the reason why I see different percentage left every day I unplug the phone in the morning. But my last Hero always show 100%.

That sounds right, because it drops from 100% to 96% after a few seconds, and its direct from 100 to 96.
But if you put the charger back it taks a couple of minuts to get from 96% to 99% and about 10 minuts to go from 99% to 100%
As far as i have noticed, this was the issue with X100 too after 2.1 update-
Once connected to the wall socket, the phone charges to 100% and starts dropping.
it does not charge again unless you reconnect the charger.
till the time it is connected, it will display as 100% but once you remove it drops to how much ever time has been spent since it reached 100%.
why that happens, i really don't know.
Ideally the phone should continue charging if the level is below 100. anyways....
about the battery backup, i think 13-15 hours is quite good for a phone with this display and capabilities.
with 3g, a little gaming, surfing, chatting etc. this should really do.
in fact, post the 2.3.3 update, the battery life has definitely increased.

I am on a VzW Inc2 w/ Froyo so not sure how applicable any of this is for you guys...but anyway....
My battery life is fantastic. I too see the 100% down to whatever after unplugging - I am pretty sure this is like others have said; once it reaches 100% during charging it stops charging and does not start again until you unplug and it re-plug it in. I know in my case charging from dead to 100% only takes like 3 or 4 hours. So if you are plugging your phone in when you go to bed it is probably hitting 100% after 3-4 hours and then the rest of the night it is draining down...
I have found JuiceDefender Ultimate and JuicePlotter to be huge helps to me in decreasing battery drain (JD) and understanding what uses the battery (JP).
Also just going into settings, About Phone, Battery, Battery use - this helps understand what is using it.
*Note: JuiceDefender Ultimate can create more problems than good if you are not willing to take the time to learn/set it up.
Prior to using JD and JP I would generally make it through the day, sometimes have a bit of power left over. After using these I always make it through the day, and sometimes through 2 days.
But let's not kid anyone - what JD does you CAN do manually...but more than likely wont or will forget. So for anyone that doesnt want to use JD, do you leave your WiFi on all the time, or do you switch it on/off? Leaving it on all the time drains battery. When WiFi is available, do you use it? I have found WiFi on this phone to use a lot less battery than 3G.
Probably my favorite function of JD I have it disable 3G and WiFi when the screen is off (for getting emails, updates, etc... you can set a schedule where it turns it back on during intervals or whatever).
Also I like the WiFi Location setting - you can teach it where you use WiFi and it will automatically turn WiFi on/off based on your location.
Anyway - my guess is if you are having low battery life, either you are using the device a lot more than you think (voice calls use a lot of battery), you have things syncing too often, or you are leaving radios/etc... on all the time that do not need to be on.
I tried to take the charger out at the same time the battery was on 100% and the LCD light went green.
Then the battery stayed at 100% for about 11 minuts and then went down to 99%.
After 3 1/2 houres the battery is at 95%!!!!!!!!
Bagground Data is enabled.
3G is active.
I have mail check every 15 minuts.
Screen brightnes at 40%
Weather update every 1 houre.
I don't use Facebook, Twitter, Stcoks and News.
I don't understand the battery in my IncS...
You guys know that these batteries don't have memory right? So when you charge doesn't matter, your phone just thinks there is that percentage of battery, do a full drain once and then it should back on track. Also, these batteries never get charged to 100%, its a safety precaution or something of that sort. They hover around 94-96% which is why the phone drops down to that area in what seems like a short amount of time. The fact that the phone says 100% when you unplug it is for effect. I used to always think I had battery problems, just stop being so worried about the battery and you'll notice an improvement. Hope this helped.

Also draining them completely flat, as in device won't power on, is the worst thing you can do to them
It sort of kills off a little of the capacity, every time you do it
So to the bloke that recommended it, no it does more damage than good

I tell you is true, and i don't understand i either!!!
Most of the 17 houres the phone was only in standby and i only read mail twice.
I guess its just a fantastic ROM that Mike1986 has made with no Sense ;-)
I can get a day and a half out of my IncS with heavy use on a pretty regular basis. Set brightness to automatic, switch off unnecessary auto updates, GPS, bluetooth, and keep volume down or off in games. My screen timeout is 1 min (reduce for longer battery life), and I have always on internet switched off. I generally leave my Wi-Fi on a lot by mistake but don't find this to affect things too much really.
You will get 96% a lot after a charge as it is bad for your battery to stay plugged in when it's fully charged, so the s/w on HTC phone switch the charge off for a little while so it runs down a little and back up again. I had Hero before and that did this as well.
juice defender ultimate is excellent in my experience.
i had it set to switch on data every 5mins for 15secs to receive notifications and do updates (i have quite lot syncing - twitter, fb, sky news widgets x2, weather) and i would sometimes have gotten 30 hours out of the phone (ie. i wouldnt have charged it 2 nights in a row sometimes), but always easily 1 full day.
im getting sick of having to use JD though, because i figured something HAD to be wrong as my battery would drain in maybe 5-8 hours without JD which I just dont think is good enough and so could not be how its meant to be.
i then read about some people having problems with cyanogen rom battery drain, and that if you switch off android market notifications, it solves it.
so i tried it, charged my phone to 99% again and im now at 82% after 5 hours 10mins, which means if i keep using the phone at this rate, ill make it 25 hours - which is more than good enough for me. (~and i still have all the same stuff syncing as before, except market notifications~)
also i have wifi set to never sleep, so its always on. (its my ideal that everything that you buy the phone for should be able to be kept on 24/7, eg data, gps etc always on - so i keep them like that. bluetooth i dont use though - if i can make it through the day on a charge with decent use, im happy)
try it.
im calling BS on jkolner btw - pics or it didnt happen
I was using the phone for about 2.5h with wifi on browsing reading some news and got the battery to 38%. Then I have activated the power saving option and locked the screen and went to bed. Now I just woke up and see that my battery is at41% wow. Did it charged up or what has happened?
An inaccuracy of the battery meter? It defenitely did not charge itself. That's physically and chemically impossible.

Actually yes it does happen.. I really can't pinpoint the reason though.. After heavy usage the battery does drain for a while after the usage and then since no usage some power is restored.. Same like AA batteries.. Example: Use AA batteries on a device till the device switches off.. Then leave the device idle for a while and battery will be usable for sometime though the device had switched off earlier due to complete drain..
I'm not an electronics person. So i dunno how or what makes this happen :silly:
What type of drain are people getting while phone is not in use?
Last night I dropped from 64% to 54% in 9 hours, despite the fact that better battery stats showed 97% deep sleep for the time period. Seems bad to me. On lots of other phones, overnight drain is in the 2 - 5% range.
Yes, active notifications are disabled while I sleep. I don't even have touchless control set up yet, so it can't be that. I have the same few location services turned on that I always do, and like I said, I usually see 2-5% overnight on other phones, not 10%.
Anybody else?
PS for those of you who want to say who cares, I did this test because I was noticing faster than usual idle drain during the day, too, but sleeping is the best time to get a long chuck of idle time.
Edit: could it be because the phone always has those sensors on waiting to to see if the phone moves to light up the time? Or the double twist for camera sensor always being on?

Get "Better battery stats" or a similar app to see what is running during idle. But to be fair that is just over 1% an hour.....that is not awful whatsoever. The only way you could get any better would be to disable any wifi/data, and those location services.....OR just turn the phone off completely. I've had phones that have had way higher drain on idle than 1.5%.

Like I said in my op, better battery stats showed 97% deep sleep in that time period overnight. And most of my other phones have lost only half as much or so overnight.

Not normal at all. My nexus 5 drained only 3% over 11 hours on WiFi. CM11s is buggy as fuarkkk
After charging my battery fully to 100%, I unplug it from the charger and without even turning the screen on, the battery drains to 92% within one hour. I check the battery stats and there are maybe only a couple wakes during this time.
Sometimes, the battery shows a certain percentage longer than others. Example, my phone will be on 65% longer than it would be on 60%.
Battery still gives me a solid 2 days usage with about 3+ hours screen on time. The service menu also says that the battery is good.
Is there a way to get the battery reading to show more accurately?
Thanks,
Hope I could Help You
For your battery problem, I guess you could try calibrating it. And also try to install "Greenify" along with "Clean Master or 360 Security" and try to close all running apps before turning off the screen. I also turn on Stamina Mode when the battery is at 100%, in an attempt to further save battery life. And the result has been kinda meh, but well, battery drains about 1% per hour. It lasts about a day and half with light usage. In my case, light usage being, browsing, youtube videos for about 2 hours, listening to music, social networking and taking some pictures

Hey,
im using greenify (my phone is rooted). Battery is quite good for me though. I get about 3 days with light usage. I start charging my phone again when the battery gets to anywhere between 10-20%.
I read that maybe its better not to let it get so low?
I have no wake locks either.
Umm.. IMO, 10-20% is okay. I usually charge the phone when the battery gets around 5%. I read somewhere that charging battery too early can affect the battery's overall standby time (reducing it). It's better not to let the battery reach 0% though.
I had that happen with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 earlier. I once let the battery dip all the way to 0% many times. After a few charge cycles, I found out that the battery was dead and wouldn't charge at all so I ended up buying a new battery :-/
Umm.. Coming back to our Z1's, could you try putting the phone in stamina mode everytime the phone is kept on standby mode? This boosted my battery life a lot I even put my phone on stamina mode throughout the whole night yesterday to test the battery life again, and when I switched on in the morning, I saw that the battery had dipped by just 2% (standby time of 7 hours). I'm really confused how your battery drops so fast, 100% to 92%.
Could you try calibrating the battery and then putting it in Stamina Mode while on Stanby and tell me the results? I hope I could help :fingers-crossed:
