Hi everyone, this is the only place i can think of since all my searches are turning up nothing.
I have a friend that force updated his Droid to 2.2 FRG01B and its made his phone alot slower and he needs to rollback to 2.1
My two questions are,
when the official 2.2 OTA rolls out, will the phone be prompted to download it?
other question is, is there any way he can get back to 2.1 without losing all his data (ie: apps/passwords/setup) he is NOT rooted
Thanks everyone for heads up
In most cases a factory wipe will fix it without needing to downgrade

A factory reset will only erase your data, not your firmware. Basically the firmware is a chalkboard, and the factory reset erases it and gives you a clean slate so to speak. So if you were on 2.2 and did a factory reset, you'd wipe all data and still be on 2.2, having to set up the phone as you did when you bought it.
In order to get back to 2.1 you'd need to download the SBF file and run RSD Lite on the phone to get it back to stock 2.1. If you need help join us on the IRC in #droid
Hope this helps
I was running lithium on a 2.2 i wanted to try the blackdroid new era. After downloading my 2.2 update is gone.... back to 2.1

ok, so im not a total noob...or at least i dont consider myself one lol im "hip" to the whole rooting/flashing/modding thing (OG, eris, dinc, evo, & now...lg revo) but this is my first LG/4g device ive encountered n ive now come to a point where i must ask for guidance lol
ok, so when i got my revo from my roommate, it already had the gb update, so i used: [One Click]Updated!!! LG Revo All in One Pkg for Root, CWM 5.0.2.7, and Unroot - to downgrade n root, then "flashed" the de-crapified (i think thats the name) rom. shortly realized i hate froyo, used ^above said method to unroot n return to stock i hopes to update back to gb, then work from there. upon attempting to do the gb update via verizon, i get the "update failed or incomplete" message. oh, n lastnight, i flashed RevoltRom1.5...
now, my question is; what am i/have i done/doing wrong?
...and/or what do i need to do to be able to have gb & root?
...or if nothing else, how can i return to bare stock? with or w/o gb...idc, cuz by this point, im prob selling it lol
(if it helps...) my phones specs:
-android: 2.2.2
-kern: 2.6.32.9-pref [email protected] #1
-build: RevoltRom1.5
-SW: vs910zv6

If you need the Gingerbread .tot file I uploaded it to my dropbox. Here's the link

Just to elaborate a little what happens is when flashing a froyo ROM over gingerbread the radio causes issues including not being able to connect to mobile network I'm not sure about wifi I never tried also you will get bootloops kicking you into cwm recovery and it's the same for the opposite gingerbread to froyo.. the easiest way to get out of that bootloop is to flash a backup of the Android version you were on before you tried to put that ROM on your phone... if you were on gingerbread flash a gingerbread backup if you were on froyo flash a froyo backup but this phone does not like to jump Android software versions via a custom ROM. Of course if you find yourself without a backup the .tot files will fix your phone and the going from inner Android version to another via flashing a custom ROM has been tested throughly and has a 0% success rate. It will flash and should boot but that's about it.

Hi yall.
I said id return to my nexy and reset it and all. So i followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850 here as i have done in the past in case a custom ROM went lolz.
Doing the same procedure now, it fails to get the OTA update to GB from Google's servers.
What am i forgetting?
Thanks yall
Hai,
I read it some where. To get OTA, go to Manage Applications>All>Google Services Framework> Clear Data and Force Stop.
Now check for update
i know what you mean, but it does not appear at all on my 2.1 stock nexus. i tried deleting data from Gtalk and such but with no success
Why not just use the PASSIMG method? You could go directly to a Gingerbread one. Our if you don't want to bump your main version, just manually apply the OTA update(s) using the official update zip(s).

thanks guys. i actually used the PASSIMG to 2.2 and from there it update smoothly to 2.3.6!
i guess im back to flashng custom roms as i ve been tinkering with my newer EVO 3d GSM
so i shot my self on the foot here, i have a droid bionic with the latest software of gingerbread 905 available i decided to root my phone using motofail
then i installed and dowloaded bionic bootstrap.apk then downloaded this rom and installed it Steel Droid: 5.6 - Ice Cream Sandwich
worked fine but no browser connection and many bugs so i deleted from my sd card and installed MOTO ICS 5.7.235 rom, before doing so i did a factory reset and erased all cache, but the rom did not work either so now i am stuck at the bootstrap menu please help
i figure i can take out my memory card hook it up to my pc and download a new rom or something thanks for your time guys
You have to install the ics leaks from .905 using stock recovery. Your best bet will be to use House of Bionic utility which will basically return your phone too stock. I assume the .235 leak didn't install at all, so you should probably be safe to return to .905, from which you should install the .232 ics leak, not the.235, as you can't go back from it.

Ok I'm going to as a stupid question. I want to restore my Bionic Back to facory settings usings RSD Lite but my services have been shut off for the time being. Will i still be able to do this as long as i have a wifi connection or am i just out of luck? I'm currently running .905 rooted with Eclipse 3.0.
You can fxz .246, ota would work over wifi If you where on stock .905.

I have tried my best to search the forums for this so if I missed it being mentioned somewhere I do apologize. I'm trying to be extra careful because the only reason I even have a Bionic is because my friend gave me her used one after my Rezound died and I don't want to lose another phone. Basically, when she had it she updated it to ICS using a leaked ota because of data connection issues. It fixed the issues, but now the phone can't be updated using the official JB OTA. My question is can the ota be flashed somehow. I don't need the phone to be rooted (my Rezound was so if I absolutely have to I can do it), I would prefer just to be on stock 4.1.2. I'm including a screen shot so everyone can see what version I am running. I've only had the phone a day so I appreciate the info. I'm not a develeoper, but I can certainly flash ROM's no problem.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Use the house of bionic with the 98.72.22 fxz and use the fxz keep data option. I will warn you before using the HoB that you need to read, then read again, before doing. Follow all instructions and you'll end up on stock 4.1.2 without losing your apps or data.
