Anyone who uses system panel knows its the best task manager and the ONLY one that shows the device true multitasking. It's shows 3 categories, active running apps, cached inactive apps, and system processes. All 3 of this group shows up in 2.1. But in 2.2 froyo there is no longer cached apps group. It skips from active apps to system processes.
I asked the developer and he responded with the following:
http://androidforums.com/android-ap...eople-who-hate-task-killers-2.html#post882019
To Roger: sorry for delay in getting back to you as well, as far as I can tell the N1 with Froyo does not have any inactive/cached apps. I'm running the leaked Froyo version as well. On the other test phones (an Incredible, a Droid, and a G1) as well as in (non-Froyo) emulators I do see inactive processes as before.

Does anyone know what this means exactly? Has android 2.2 been changed where in no longer pre-loads apps? My observations on froyo using system panel shows that my running app list is now much larger than eclare with no cached apps at all, ever. Has Google changed this and removed cached apps? Or perhaps view are just now hiding it somehow so task managers cannot see this info?
If true then system panel would need an update. But that response from the developer seemed to not indicate that.
bump. so not ONE person noticed that froyo doesnt cache apps anymore?

this may only be an issue with the pre-released Froyo.

perhaps, but that seems like a pretty significant change to the OS. i'm wondering if they either changed the way the OS works completely, or if its just a bug that is being fixed for the final release of 2.2.
The 2.2 leak has a lot of missing code in it.

I don't have an N1 so can't answer your question, but I did notice that the developer you spoke to, TESTED FROYO ON A G1!!!
Seems logical to me to keep out until ready for final release testing, because you can test a lot faster if things aren't being swapped out and in.

He's probably not a developer working on Android, probably just a application dev. Why would he be running a leaked version if he worked at Google.. Also, I think maybe he just doesn't know how to properly form a legible sentence since it would seem he meant other phones he has, not specifically that they are running 2.2, though I could see how you might think that reading what he said.
I would just hold off on questions like this until a final release is out, it's pretty pointless to worry about until Google drops an official OTA update.
Ok so now that the official froyo is released, and the multitasking STILL works differently, where do we find out what and how things have changed? Cached apps no longer exist, instead all apps show as running in system panel. I'm surprised there's not more mention of this since it seems a fundamental change in OS has occurred. Anyone have any insight?
On the technical side I can't speak, but for the end user experience, Froyo's multitasking has been the same or better than before. I experience less "jittery" lag and it seems like more programs are not unloaded (ie: run immediately, no load time at all) vs before if you used say Facebook, then browser, K9 mail, few other things, then back to Facebook it was ~1s to reload.. Maybe Facebook is a bad example here, as it seems to ALWAYS load fast, but you get the gist..
It of course could be the extra ram available now... 512M total vs the 256M before?
Well, if they did significantly change something, it was really for the better. Things just fly now switching back and forth.
Of course, I was only stock before and only had access to half the memory. So it could just be keeping a lot more of my apps in memory now that it has access to the full 512mb.

Well using system panel shows that in froyo there is an entire group of missing app now, inactive cached apps, are just flat out gone in froyo. It doesn't seem to be related to the new available RAM in 2.2.
I noticed this on first day on 2.2
I think the possible reason is 2.2 support more than 256M RAM. So the 16MB free RAM threshold is hard to reach now. That's way we didn't see Inactive process. maybe we can try run alot of apps backgroud untill reach 16MB free RAM threshold. Then use systemplane to check if there is any inactive process.

I've already tried that, gone down to 14 mb but they do not appear. They are completely gone from the OS, and system panel developer already confirmed that they are gone from 2.2 and It's just the way the OS is now. Check the link I posted earlier in the thread. What we need to find out is WHAT and WHY Google made these changes. Why isn't anything mentioned in the changelog etc?
Are you just interested in knowing why? Or is it affecting you in a bad way? Whatever reason they have, it has improved performance a lot. I just assume they are categorizing them differently now. Because the apps 'running' in the background still aren't really running, they are just waiting in memory in case you need them again.

I'm just wondering why, and what exactly the changed. My phone runs great with no issues.
Previously system panel showed 3 groups of apps, the first was running apps, and these are the ones actually using some type of resources typically. While the second group was inactive, "frozen" not using any resources.
But now in 2.2 everything goes into the first group. And the OS no longer starts a bunch of apps pre loaded upon boot up. It only loads apps you use now. So still I'm wondering if now these 2 groups are combined into the one active list, can we tell the difference? Or is there no difference anymore, and only running apps are now shown?
Ok, so the frozen category would be ones that were FCed to release their memory. Which could kind of imply that the OS would remember their state.
Android doesn't remember the state for you if it is no longer in memory. It is up to the app to save its state when it is told it is going into the inactive state.
So it could be that the frozen category wasn't actually anything special, just apps that were forced out of memory, and now they don't even mention them anymore.
You said that you couldn't force anything out of the list though, right? If you can't get anything automatically removed form the list, I would say they just combined the two categories.

Another thing that changed is that its not possible to kill most apps. Browser and some others can be killed. But for. If most part if you kill something it just stays there running, or immediately pops back up.
But yes the frozen apps list is just plain gone. It was a useless list anyway. But I wonder what exactly they changed and what it means and how it works.
im not sure if this is a repost but check out this app...it has over 300 free flash games you can download. For some reason google banned this app from the marketplace so you have to go download it from their website, google kongregate android.
Well, I've also been playing those games directly from my phone's browser (Miren) and it works!
Works great
Id find out why it was banned before installing it. Just my 2c
It's back on the market now.
Not on market
I run KAOS Froyo 2.2.1 and when I search the market, it is not there.
anyone have the original apk that allows to install flash games to sd card? or that one doesn't work anymore because they updated the app?
Just wait 5minutes, I'll post the original here.
edit:
Okay you can download the original (January 18/v1.0.8) apk from this site:
http://www.getjar.com/mobile/53364/kongregate-arcade-for-samsung-gt-i9000-galaxy-s/?s=phones
It is completely free, and this is the version that got banned from the Android Market.
Google say it is like an AppStore within the Android Market and I agree, but it is an awesomely free one with great titles!
And I still stand behind my reasoning that this "App" or "AppStore" wasn't threatening/damaging the Market in any way ... infact it was doing the exact opposite by bringing more titles to the Android platform (and enticing iOS/WP7 customers).
Why this older version is better than the new one (on the Android Market) is because it has the "offline mode". It automatically downloaded the flash games to your internal/SD card ... thus you don't need to constantly waste your time, money and internet allowance on re-downloading it again and again.
The new one sucks because it has no "offline mode" instead it tries to save the games to your browsers cache. I've noticed from experience once you have about a dozen or more games cached, the performance of the Android browser becomes slower. In fact, it pretty much overloaded mine, and the froyo system "fixed" the problem by clearing it automatically; making me lose my previous data and the games. I also think by exhausting the cache, this might cause faster battery drain from your device.
Here's a quick note, try to run as few Apps as possible when trying to play these flash games. This thing will cripple older/slower devices, and will give newer ones a lot of stress. If you do not close all the Apps, that's fine it might run a little slower, but make sure you definitely close down any internet browsers or Apps that use/stress the Flash 10.1 resources. Also, you can control which directory the games will be downloaded to (either to internal or to SDcard), so choose depending on your personal space needs. (I'm using a Galaxy S I9000 with stock froyo)
If you download from another source and want to test if its the original (superior) version, you can do so by:
Downloading/Opening/Playing any game (eg Ink Ball). Then exited the app and disable any internet connections (switch on Flight mode). Re-open the App. Try playing the same game (eg Ink Ball) ... if it enters/resumes (congrats you have the original version) otherwise it will come with a note about getting an internet connection.
Go GameStop for making this available again!

When I first installed it (after it was removed from Market), there was around ~320 games available.
I've checked today, and there is 338 games available.
So yes, and I hope they will keep it that way

ok stupid question..but im thinking of buying tibu and beweather from the market.. when i purchase them..and updates continue to come out..can i update them always..or do i always to pay again when an update comes out..and if there are free updates..how does it work if i reflash a rom or something using cm7.. thanks
and while im here..one more question..im my rom experience will be complete.. lol i went to flash cm7 and when i did all the restore and stuff it should that i had 50 updates but then that went away in my market..and now my complaint is i know i have more than 100 apps and it doesnt show on my apps in my market..ive rebooted reflash all that..im using tibu 4.0.0 but when i browse for that app..it does say its installed..its just that if i got my apps some of them are not there..basically if i wanna see if theres an update i have to browse for it to see if it says update or just installed..but if recall..i think when i did an update it finally was seen in my apps in market correctly after the update..what gives please help..thanks..sorry for the two questions in one and the long ramble
I am sure you pay once and all the updates after are free. I haven't bought applications on android, but am just assuming it's like digital distribution in general.
... I can't really understand your second question/ ramble. If it's about your downloaded applications list disappearing when flashing a new rom, yeah, that happens. You could just use titanium backup to restore applications once you are done flashing the new rom. Sorry if I missed the meaning of your second question.
i have tibu pro and i get the updates on the same licence. it's one of few apps i've bought. you need to go to manage applications to the market , clear data and you will see your apps.

what you mean you get updates on the same license? i mean i get my updates like i said..but thats if i browse through the market catalog manually without going to my apps since i cant see half of my apps in my apps section..and i did do that btw..even the cache i cleared nothing..still 50 apps instead of like 104 or something.. wahhh! thats all i need is my apps showing and im all good!!! im pretty sure that if you do buy an app your good to go you can update as often it is needed for free..just need my apps to show..and i already reflashed too.. hay!
did you try to reinstall the market? after the flash... also were the apps all d/l'ed from the same market account originally? not trying to be a smartass just throwing a few more ideas out there...... back to stock???

Yeah, I think that's a common problem when restoring from TiBu...the market gets confused. Happened to me...it's an easy fix:
First, reboot the phone to make sure everything is closed. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Tap the All tab. Scroll down until you find Market. Tap Market to open it's application settings. Tap the "Clear Data" button. Reboot the phone. Your market should now show everything.
If you purchase an app from the market, updates are included in the original price (i.e., you won't have to pay again). Purchases are tied to your Google account, so even if you buy a new phone, when you log in with your Google ID, the apps you purchased will show up in the "My Apps" section of the Market. You'll have to reinstall them, but you won't have to pay again.
^ this.
Although you don't have to reboot first to clear market data just clearing it will do the trick.
ok so heres the story..i did what everyone ask me to do..somehow still didnt work..then i did the market doctor thats suppose to fix the market links didnt work..i uninstalled tibu..rebooted and now i shows all my apps with like half of them needing updates..i know theres some that need updates and some that dont..but i did it ne ways just to be sure..so basically i got all my apps back! yay..thanks guys..so wait one of you said that i dont have to pay again and as long as i have my google id i can still dl it even if i flash ANY rom on here..thanks again!
Paid apps are linked to the google account that purchased them. You could sign in to your account on a completely different device and download them. So yes flashing then away will not cause you to have to repurchase them.
I noticed there are some new apps and some new processes with the new update to ICS, like Google+ and a new messenger and some new authenticators. Does anyone have an updated list of what is safe to disable/freeze?

I'm just looking to remove that junk. Root Uninstaller didn't seem to be helpful. Thankfully, this Moto junk is my work phone and not my personal. I'd never buy one of these!
I too am interested after noticing that I am down 75MB+ of available memory on average after the OTA ICS upgrade (coming from stock GB).
Actually, you don't really need any special guide. Almost everything can be either uninstalled or frozen by going into Settings => Applications and finding the app in the list. This is now built in to Android, so if you can disable it from there, it is safe. Also, most of the additional bloatware that isn't directly VZW can just be uninstalled now.
Awesome. I noticed that you can disable natively now. I just wanted to make sure disabling or removing stuff would not hurt future updates like people have said it would in the past.

Nope, this is now an Android feature. You can, of course, root your phone and further disable some software, but for the most part, you should be fine sticking with the safety of the native disabling.
Excellent, thanks for the quick response.
i like how they discourage you from disabling the bloatware by telling you stuff might misbehave... yeah, if i disable the NFL thing and my phone misbehaves, it's getting returned. lol
i can't wait for the day when the carriers are forced to allow us to completely remove the bloat that comes on phones, just like PC manufacturers were required to in the 90s.
has anyone experimented with repartitioning so that the app storage and user data areas are in the same partition? i really don't see any reason to keep them separate. right now i could get another 2gb back from the app partition to store more music in if i wanted to.

The "your phone might misbehave" is more of a generic message, but it can apply to anything. For example, if you have an app that relies on one of the activities from the NFL app, it is quite possible that your phone will do something unexpected (like crash).
Of course, I do also wish I could completely and safely obliterate all the VZW stuff.
As for repartitioning, Motorola does this so that they can continue to provide a mass storage connection mode. If you repartition to unified storage, it will mean that you will be restricted to MTP/PTP transfer modes. It also means that you'll need to be a LOT more careful when modifying your phone's OS. Personally, I recommend you simply invest $35 in a 32GB mirco SD card, or if you really have a lot of music, spring for a 64GB one.

What virus scanner did you use? I've just received my Maze Alpha X. There are some bad things about this phone, I'm a bit disappointed. The worst in my case is that the front camera doesn't work. It's like there's no camera at all.
Yeah unfortunately this phone is loaded with precarious apps, adupsfota for instance disguised as the ota wireless update is full of dodgy adware/spyware and if you look at the permissions your see just how worrying it is, it has permission to access banking apps, android pay, key-logger, microphone, camera the list goes on, I've disabled it several times but it manages to re-enable itself. Beautysnap is also a bad one which I have managed to disable for good, LocationEM2 is another suspect app, Fotaprovider which is also adups related. Basically this phone really needs an alternative kernel/custom rom before it can be safely used but as far as I'm aware there isn't one as yet.
The CPU usage is always very high too which is not a great sign, not good at all, I'm surprised Amazon can sell phones in this state tbh.

Ive used a few but the adware/malware/spyware that the phone has installed as standard on the kernal/rom it's shipped with are installed as system apps with the exception of beautysnap so you need to go through them manually. I used an app called SystemPanel2, it's a great app that gives you a really complete overview of whats running on your phone and what not, it can record system processes, memory, battery and cpu usage over a period of time as well as network stats.

Under your Wireless Update system app what does it say? On mine for instance is says "com.adups.fota". If your firmware is good/clean then that's a good sign that if I put a fresh stock rom on here it should be fine, I was thinking maybe all the maze alpha firmware's were affected.
My com.adups.fota "seems" to be clean.
For hibernating apps on my rooted Alpha X I use SD Maid Pro.
Under app control you set several things
A) Hibernate the app
B) Disallow start on boot
C) Look up where all the files of the app are located
D) Remove app completely
E) etc

No such thing as clean addups I'm afraid dude.
A newly discovered malicious app is found on China-made mobile devices running the Android OS. This is a baked-in system app used to update the device’s firmware but is found to also steal personal information, among other things. A blog is recently published about this malware by Kryptowire.
Already we have had inquiries on whether we detect Adups or not. The answer to that is I believe we do. You see, the app in question, which goes by the package name of com.adups.fota, has a couple of variants. There is an older version seen around 2014 and a newer version that emerged mid-2016. This older version we detect and have done so since 2014. I can verify that this older version was indeed pre-installed on various Chinese mobile devices bought cheaply on online stores, mainly Amazon. I know this because ever since we started detecting this older version of com.adups.fota, we have received support tickets periodically about why we are detecting a system app that cannot be uninstall—I’ll get to how to address this later.
