[Q] Losing my apps when I install a rom - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I am a n00b, just wanted to know how I can keep the apps that I have if I want to change from CM 6 to Sapphire 1. When I rooted my phone and put on CM I lost all my apps including the Shazam that allowed unlimited songs. When I reinstalled from the market now I'm only limited to 5/month, which isn't a big deal but I would like to just keep all 'my' data like #'s and photos.
Thx

Titanium backup.free version will do.backup everything before you flash.after you flash, redownload it & restore your apps.awesome app

So, there isn't a feature in the SYNC software that does a device backup of the apps/contact lists/settings?

Google will sync your contacts back when you sign in. I've seen some apps come back but never any paid ones. Titanium will restore app & data back. Manually with the free , automatic with donate version. It also lets you freeze apps which hides them rather than removing them.

Few questions about froyo and music player

Hi long time reader new to sgs
..my question is why doesnt samsung music player come with a widget???
2nd......when froyo gets released will thet update cause me to lose all my apps like other official update did? Im using a,Bell samsung galaxy and the, last update wiped my apps
...i used my backup pro to restore them lol

1: only samsung can answer that. lol. but you can pull down the top tab for music controls. music controls are still accessible when the screen is locked, so +1 for that. but if you really want the widget, there are alternative players you can use. you might also wanna keep an eye on this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766544
2: if it's official thru kies, i have no idea. but if you flash it yourself, it will wipe your apps. it's always best to keep backups anyway in case something you don't expect will happen.

ive used My Backup pro to back up my apps but noticed that after restoring the backup, it does not show up in my android market and thus does not notify me for updates, does titanium work better?
I was thinking about using app brain to just reinstall everything as it saves all my previous apps in a list or account

Missing applications from my apps in market

I own a nexus one, and after upgrading to gingerbread, some applications which are installed such as dolphin browser and soundhound are installed but are not listed as installed on the market and thus I don't get update notifications for them.
I tried to clear data on the market app to re sync the installed apps but it had been disabled on gingerbread
Can anyone shed some light please?
Thanks in advance,
Mark Cachia

Do they at least appear on the market?
Yes, I even re-installed the apps, still not showing in my apps though.

same issue here with me, but i'm on CM7 -rc1
i've cleared the market cache and that doesnt seem to help.
I'm using stock GRI 40

You might be able to use Titanium Backup's "Market Doctor" function to re-establish the application links to the Market, though I believe that requires root.
Give it some times, they'll probably come back on it's own.
If not use Market Doctor like suggested, that might or might not solve it.
It has happened to me here and there and usually fix itself.
Another thing you can try is download an app, any app (something free that can be delete afterward) and see if that bring the missing apps back.

Apps not showing in Market 'my apps'

In continuation to the minor problems with my new IS, the first being Bluetooth transfers restarting the phone, (here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071021);
another issue am having is with respect to apps in the my apps section of market which allows updated.
Since this is a new phone, i had some apps transferred from other handsets and installed, rather than downloading them all over again.
None of the apps are showing in market to update, not a single one!
i have read about this in other posts, where clearing the cache seems to solve the problem, but it does not help in my case.
any idea why this could be happening & any possible solutions?
The only solution i think is a firmware update...
Depending on the apps, they may not be compatible with 2.2, what are they?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk
Regular apps like astro, angry birds, barcode scanner.
just a few off the top of my head.
the apps do work, and if there is an update available, the app prompts for the same when opened.
however, in the last tab of market, which displays all the installed apps & those which have an update, not even a single app is shown except google maps...
Are you rooted?

could you be so kind to dump your build.prop?
it sounds it got fked on some way...
@dfd9999
Nope, no root, no changes what so ever.
Stock IS
@Hawkysoft
errr... could you kindly explain how i should do that?
Titanium Back up can fix market links… but I believe you have to be rooted for it to work but I may be wrong, its worth a shot!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
just uninstall the last app you got from the market.
if the method from lgm_dev is not working:
try to clear data/cache from the market. Settings->apps->manage->(tab all)-> market and clear the data there
Index should be rebuilded when it is started again.
IncS is my first Android phone and i have just got Root access. But after i flashed a new Rom and log on to Android Market with my Google account, there is only the apps i have paied for, and not all the free apps i have downloaded befor the flash.
Is it realy only the paied apps it rembers?

Random Titanium Backup Question

After searching the forum I cannot find the answer, so I am hoping someone has run into this issue as well.
Everytime I flash a ROM I restore my apps and app data from Titanium (no system data), which works fine every time. However, one of those times I decided to run the Market Doctor and "fix" the market links. What I forgot about before I did that is not all of my apps come from the Android market, some come from the Amazon market. So the apps from the Amazon market are now associated with the android market and show up as needing to be updated, which fails of course because some are paid apps on Android so the download/install is declined. I have tried uninstalling from Android and reinstalling from amazon, then restoring data only from Titanium, but the Android market still hangs on to them. Is there anyway to "unfix" what Titanium did via the Market Doctor? This also applies even after wiping and installing a new ROM because it is now associated with the Android market on their end, not only on my device of course. A wipe data of the android market doesn't work either.
Any thoughts? Thanks everyone!

Had the same problem but i use app manager now and it gives me the option to unlink the app from amazon but the funny thing is it still shows up randomly. So i gave up on it.

1) Open Titanium Backup
2) Go to the "Backup/Restore" tab
3) Find the App which is now wrongly associated with the Android Market
4) Long press on that App in the App list
5) Click "Detach from Market"
I don't know of any way to do this in bulk, but this is what's worked for me

Titanium Backup Pro vs MyBackup Pro

Since flashing new ROMs is the flavor of the season, restoring apps and other stuff on the fone is most required.
Which of these two apps do you prefer?
I am talking about the paid versions here cos the free versions on both TB & MBP are a little buggy.
Here are the pros & cons of either:
Titanium Backup Pro-
PROs
A legend in terms of apps as a whole, has probably been the longest standing and most successful app
various additional features like market links, freezing programs, pulling data from nandroid backups, removing bloatware, etc
CONs
Can get difficult to use for a first timer
not a very easy to use interface
MyBackUp Pro
PROs
Very easy to use interface
Backups both apps & data along with your sms, contacts, settings & even your home page layout
CONs
Does not work accurately 100% of the times
Lots of folks have reported loss of data or unsuccessful restores
do post your thoughts here & any other positives or negatives you know.
it would be good to share your experiences on either & why you prefer one over another.
also feel free to post if you know of any other app which can compete against these 2
i use titanium pro
4 me better than mybackup pro
< titanium > u can restore ur apps + data from cwm backup

Titanium Backup Pro all the way. If you sit down and just have a fumble through all its menus it's a pretty simple little program.
If you have any troubles, there are tonnes! Of video tutorials that describe this program, and what it can do.
I use my backup root. Not sure what the difference is but it restores apps and data, got a separate freeze app, it's not laggy and best of all it's free. Check it out... Need to be rooted though

GoBackup is the easiest way to do this. Awesome interface and tools. Does app + data etc. It's free

i dont care about the look or interface as long as it is doing the job
i assumed that majority of the folks would be using Titanium backup and the rest mostly would be with my backup..
i haven't even seen go backup, goto check it out

GO Backup - easy, so easy to use - backs up sms, mms, contacts, call logs, homescreen layouts, wifi aps, user app+data. Best of all it's free and ad-free. The paid version adds cloud backup function.
When restore apps using Titanium, is there a way to install apps at once install of being asked for permission to install each individual app?
Only if you are using the pro version of Titanium backup. If you are, click on the top right corner icon and select restore all apps with data. Select /De-select the ones you want. This is also known as a batch restore.
My favourite is
Titanium Backup. Lots of features that other backup managers do not have.

Yeah agreed Titanium backup. Must be pro version though, as free version is too limited. Just had a look at Go Backup and are also impressed as its free and can backup home layout. I don't believe TB can do this.

Have tried all Go Backup and TBP and MBP(tough the title's just TBP VS MBP.
If the case is TBP vs MBP, it's sure victory on TBP.
Never find any single bug for as long as I remember, and yes I've been using it 3 years.
I happen to restore whatssapp before, using MBP, but it won't open, so I have to redownload the app, & yes that's the last time I use MBP.
Go Backup's pretty cool but it can't back up all of your apps into one flashable zip pack
This is the coolest feature that none of the others have.
FYI TBP also have cloud storage feature
