How to flash radio image on N1 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi kings
Is there any procedure somewhere on how update the radio firmware on nexus one?
I can the .img radio image with cyanogenmod but cant find how to install it.
ROM CM6 RC3

Well first we need to know what radio you are currently using. Go to Settings -> About Phone and look under Baseband. You are looking for the first three numbers after the underscore in the middle. Post your version.

Thanks for your reply. The baseband version says 32.19.00

That doesn't look right. Can you post the whole baseband version?

Oups my mistake.it is 4.02.02

With the .IMG file you can flash through fastboot or you can download the signed update file and flash custom recovery. Recovery is easier for people that arent that great in fastboot.

This is the newest radio version already in a .zip file. just throw it in the root of your sdcard, boot into recovery and select flash zip file and select the file.

this is the other froyo radio. same process as the other.

I never use recovery to flash a radio, always fastboot. I would advise against it, but to each his own. This is correct instructions, you beat me to it

I didnt use recovery to flash radio also, but I have an N1 with locked bootloader and fast boot doesnt work with locked bootloaders. Kinda sucks having to use flash_image each time. But The 2 files that i posted up, ive personally used and flashed radio recovery and havent had any problems with it.

Thanks guys. I see 2 versions, 4.x and 5.x which one should i go for

It depends on you. some say 4.x is better some say 5.x is better. Everyone has their own opinion for radio, roms, etc.

Mmnn last question, would it matter if i install 5.x and roll back to 4.x if needed? I guess not but justto be sure

Nope. Just be careful and not let the phone die during a radio flash process. it can brick your phone.

Radios are the one thing you have to be extremely careful when flashing. Interrupting the radio flash is basically the only proven way to brick a phone.
Make sure you have ample battery charge, have your phone plugged in, and DON'T mess with the phone while it works it's magic. I can't stress this enough.

Wouhouuu i have the 5.x now im thankful guyss!

You can flash the radio using fastboot anyway, because radio isn't a custom build and is signed with authentic keys, allowing it to be flashed with the regular locked bootloader.

radio images and AT&T Nexus One

I've dug around for an answer for two days now and havent found any insight to this question
If i flash my phone to one of the froyo radios, will it screw up the phone simply because the froyo roms like Kangorama require the froyo radio?
Im asking because i kno that the FRF50 and even the 72 was for Tmobile only..the leofroyo rom works great because there is no radio attachment to it, but I want to use kangorama..
any help would be greaT!
thanks
I rooted my AT&T Nexus one for CyanogenMod 5.08 over the weekend.
CyanogenMod also needs Froyo Radio (Radio Firmware: FRF50 (FROYO RADIO, REQUIRED!) http://android.chemlab.org/android/nexus/radio-4.06.00.12_7.img)
My phone is running totally smooth. No network problem - no 3G issues.

As long as you have the Android SDK, it should work for ya, though the command may be "fastboot-mac" or something instead.
If you want to flash just using the SD card, you'll need to find an update.zip of the radio image. I don't have a link to one of those at this point.
edit: here ya go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6784858&postcount=1006
Just flash this from recovery.
thank you so much. !!!

Unrevoked forever + radio update

Can radios be flashed with UF at anytime now with an update.zip?
Also where is a zip file for the 2.15 radio or is there anyone willing to share? It's not the same as the evo's is it?
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
To flash:
1. Place PB31IMG.zip to root of SD card
2. Power down phone
3. Press volume down and power at same time
4. It will ask to update...press volume UP for yes
5. It will ask for reboot...press volume UP for yes
Once done...enjoy.

It already saves it as PB31IMG.zip....so just move it to root and go on with process.
That's for the splash and does not update radio. I've installed that and the update.zip and still have 2.05

I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong, i have the pb31img.zip(radio update) on root of sd did the whole power down and power on with volume(down) and when i get to hboot it has
fastboot
recovery
clear storage
simlock
after 2 seconds or so it does this:
sd checking...
loading...pb31diag.zip
no image
loading...pb31diag.nbh
no image or wrong image
loading...pb31img.zip
no image
loading...pb31img.nbh
no image or wrong image
so does anyone know what the problem is?

Make sure the sdcard is formatted as fat32 and that the zip name is exactly "PB32IMG.zip", exact casing and make sure also that its not .zip.zip
OK i just reformatted the sd card to FAT32 and the file i downloaded was PB31IMG, i don't have an extra .zip, that's common mistake for me to do so it was first thing to check. ok so that fixed it. i must not have had it formatted correctly, its whatever it was stock
edit: mrozzeh and the rest of the unrevoked team, i would like to say thank you, and thanks for the personal help too.

Anytime. (10 characters blah)
Hold the optical pad and the power button...not the vol down key and give it a shot
Radio update isn't working for me. Saved PB31IMG.zip to the root of my FAT32formatted SD card, rebooted, it found the PB31IMG.zip file, went though the loading process, got the point where it said "checking" and then went back to the menu without loading the update. I've downloaded the radio update twice with the same results. I currently have the 2.05.00.06.11 radio but have not yet installed s -off. Do I need to do that first?
Any other suggestions?
EDIT: Nevermind, I installed the unrevoked forever s -off patch and the radio update seems to be installing now.
EDIT 2: Radio update updates kernal to .32 correct?

[RADIO] NS4G Radio image

For those of you that flashed a bad radio to your NS4G, there is a fix!
Many thanks go out to Netarchy for relentlessly trying to fix my radio, and Shabbypenguin for supply Netarchy with his phone images both of them did a lot of work just to get my phone operational again Thank you very much!
Attached is the signed zip for you to flash in recovery. now listen very carefully before you complain that this didn't work for you. It did not work for me either, but it just may work for some people to flash in recovery, that is why i'm supplying a signed zip for you. What I had to do to get this to work is to unzip the file. inside there is a file called "radio.pr.img" boot into your bootloader and use the following fastboot command
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.pr.img
that worked for me and hopefully it will work for anyone else that flashes a bad image.
Once again thank you to Shabbypenguin and Netarchy, and anyone else that may have helped out.

Is there a chance it'll brick my phone though? :-S I dont want to kill it... and I've flashed the radio from this ruu using "fastboot flash radio radio.img", so why wouldn't it work? if I only flash the system and data partitions, I should be safe from bricks, right?
Idk I don't use fastboot unless I have to. I haven't ever flashed anything besides a recovery from there. There is always a chance of bricking your phone when flashing something.
Chances are if you flash anything in an ruu your just gonna loose root. Wait til a dev gets his hands on it or look up how to use the android kitchen.

Root is SUPER easy to regain (just flash the root.zip in recovery)... and everything is flashed through fastboot on the Incredible S... except custom roms ofcourse.

OTA Update

Here's the zip of the OTA that was pushed out. It won't install through either CWM or TWRP, so can someone who's more knowledgeable in these matters make it flashable?
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/821854/OTAPkg.zip
And in case it helps, here's the log from CWM from trying to flash it manually:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/821854/recovery.log
And yes, as with any OTA, you run the risk of losing root, etc. But for me, I really don't care. I've even tried pushing the included stock recovery, but it doesn't work like this. You get a phone with an exclamation point over it (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about) when you try to boot into that recovery. A quick push of TWRP back onto the phone fixed that error, but I still can't flash the update, obviously. Anyone want to take a crack at it?
Thanks to nuclear_eclipse for getting this and the log for us!

That symbol just means that it doesn't know what file to use for the update; this is part of what get's communicated somehow from the OS to the recovery during reboot, but I'm not familiar enough with the way recoveries work to know how to trigger that myself. I would assume this is a similar mechanism to how ROM Manager et al can tell CWM/TWRP what to flash.

That makes total sense. I guess it's not automatically checking the folder that Software Update puts it in. I've got another 22 hours until I can get Software Update to check again. I'll push the stock recovery before I do that, unless someone makes this flashable through TWRP or CWM before then.
In my stock Rom thread there are new files up. They are the ota roms. So if you are running stock, download the odex one ending in 1.08 and flash in recovery, no need to wipe data. Then pull boot.img and fastboot flash it. You now have the ota software. I will post instructions to upgrade the firmware that came with the ota
