So I bought a set of bluetooth headphones on Amazon.com recently, and they are working really badly! The audio constantly stutters on CM 6.0, and still stutters quite a bit on Darchrom 2.8. It also has pretty pathetic range, if I put my phone in my pocket or even hold it in my hand below my belt it just cuts out completely!
Is this normal for the Hero or do these headphones just really suck?

I'd say it was your head set. I use my phone to play bluetooth over my car stereo and it's great. I've had it connect to my phone which was inside my apartment and play without issue.
Thanks for the reply! Which ROM do you use, stock or a custom one? I tried it with the Cyanogen Mod RC1 and also Darchrom 1.8, but I haven't tried the stock sprint rom yet.
I'm running the CM 6.0 RC1 basically. I've had some Sense ROMs on it as well and they've worked well enough. Didn't really run stock build long so can't really say much for how well that works.
I also have bluetooth problems, and it is not my headset. The headset pairs, and has great range with my motorola Q. When I pair it with my Hero, it has a 2 foot line of site range, if I hold it in my other hand, it cuts out.
I have a hero running stock 2.1, rooted. My carrier is MTS in Manitoba.
I don't know of any ROMs that would work with my carrier, so I am hesitant to try any other.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Try disabling stagefright in the build.prop file. It fixes audio issues with Pandora on CM6.
I have a cheap insignia headset, and it works for my needs...but, I do have the same problem with the phone in my pocket. I sometimes get the stuttering thing, but I think that it happens for me during syncs and other data stuff happening. Usually tho, I don't have this problem. I'm on froyo 817 build

I just tried this, and it made no difference. Thanks for the tip though. I hope to get my hands on another hero, just so I can check if my hardware is defective.
I have the Motorokr S9-HD headset. I get crappy signal or connection on my Hero running cm6 RC1. I've also noticed this on other roms. You pretty much need a arm band to get better signal. I've found that by placing the phone in your pocket it cuts in and out. I think it sucks but the only cure I've noticed so far is an arm band. Hope this helps, peace, Chags
It's so bad, I can't even have the phone on the straps of my backpack 2 feet away. The signal cuts off if you move the wrong way.
bluetooth issues
Hey guys,
I had a motorokr as well, and it blew chunks for range. I also have a Motorola HT-820 bluetooth headset, and it does great with the hero on the same ROMs. This isn't an issue with the Hero software -- I talked to Motorola about it, and they said the headset was defective. I sent it in for replacement and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Hey guys,
I've got a Kenwood KDC-BT945U car stereo and I'm curious what other people's experiences are using the bluetooth for music. For all of you using a bluetooth receiver in the car, when you play music, does the deck display the Song/Artist/Album/etc.? Mine plays fine. I can pause/play, skip forward/back, etc. The only problem is when it comes to actually displaying the information on the car stereo.
Any similar experiences?
Ps. Besides this problem, the deck is a great complement to the phone. If I can get this problem solved, I can stop using the USB altogether.
I was going to post a similar thread about my issues with the KDC-BT945U. Thanks for staring it. Are you running a custom ROM?
Music for me shows no tag info. My main issue is that foryo is a nightmare when it comes to this deck. Both the deck and the nexus has major pairing issues using froyo. I have not tried 2.1 stock or Cyan's 5.0.7, I assume they work fine. I am no expert, but I think it's the new Radio in froyo causing the problem.
Surprisingly, Paul's desire ROM and this deck work very well for me.
Checking the website, there is a Bluetooth compatibility section. They do not list the nexus. I'm hoping for a firmware update for the deck.
I do have a 30gb iPod in the glove box hooked up via the rear USB and it does display track info on the deck.
Yeah. In my infinite wisdom, I bought a ZuneHD rather than an iPod touch. . . The only Kenwood stereo I could find that was compatible with the Zune was like twice the price. Not exactly doable when I'm 28 days away from being a daddy. lol That said, I'm just using a jump drive for the USB. That's been working flawlessly, tags included. If I can figure out how to get the phone to transmit tag info, then I can drop the need to carry an mp3 player (or have a jump drive hooked up) altogether. I love listening to music from the phone while using the navigation, for the sheer fact that it cuts the music off to make announcements. . .just need to get it working right.
Edit. Btw, I an running eViL's latest FroYo. Noir Tri.

Can you tell me what firmware your deck is running? Mines 3.11

Same as you. Latest FroYo radio and 3.11 on the deck. Have since wiped and flashed Evil's latest Noir IV (FRF83 based) and still the same results. I have a 16 gig jump drive in there, so I have plenty of music. . . it just kind of sucks for the navigation piece. Phone calls are fine, because they'll interrupt any of the inputs. . . nav doesn't have that luxury. :-\
Thank you for the reply,
I have switch over to Kang-o-rama 0.9 Final (Froyo FRF83). My BT registering is a bit better, but nothing like Paul's R22 desire ROM was. With Paul's ROM, I was able to just keep my phone in my pocket at all times and when I started my car, as long as BT was turned on, my phone and deck synced every time. Now i'm lucky if it syncs at all. I have to constantly re-pair with the phone, and even that is very flaky.
Also, During audio, only 'BT audio' is displayed, no tags.

Unfortunately, the desire ROM does not display tag info.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that sending the tag info for songs over Bluetooth isn't currently possible. It's a limitation in Bluetooth though, not your head unit.
I have a stock Nexus One and a Kenwood KDC-X994 and after trying unsuccessfully to figure out how to get my song info to show on the head unit I contacted Kenwood about it. They informed me it wasn't currently possible to do this via Bluetooth and that it was Bluetooth that had the limitation, not my head unit.
On a side note, ever since upgrading to Froyo (stock) my phone will only stream music via BT to my head unit with the stock music app, and this is very aggravating. Seems to be an issue with Froyo from seeing other user posts about this topic. I sincerely hope Google fixes this ASAP!

not true, my blackberry storm 2 sends all the song info to my kenwood kdc-bt945u. so the problem is in the phone software not the hu or bluetooth
where are we at on this? im curious as i should have an eris by friday and want to know how compatible it will be with my head unit
Huh. Interesting. I guess Kenwood was wrong, then.

kenwood kind of pisses me off, i dealt with them a lot after i purchased the hd radio unit for the 945u. i was trying to find out why you cannot access the equalizer or any audio settings in hd radio mode (extremely annoying) he said you just cant. i wanted a more detailed explaination and he just made some bs up to get me off the phone. but yeah, just so you guys know, if you get the hd radio for you head unit you wont be able to adjust the terb/bass or anything on the hd radio src. all you get it the direct signal.
but does anyone know if this song info problem has been fixed? in an update or anything?
I have tried three different headsets on two different Incredibles and the music skips when walking or running when listening to music on the headset. Has anyone else had this happen and is there a fix?

Might defeat the purpose but use the headset blocker widget in the market. Just search "Headset blocker" and put the widget on one of your homescreens then activate it.
It may defeat the purpose of saying commands and such, but it should let you listen to your music without problems.

I have the same problem with my Motorola H9s. That was with my Blackberry Storm.
After much searching on the internet, it seems the position of the source is important. I get a minimum of skipping if I carry my phone in my back pocket.
I had skipping before I had to keep the phone above my waist to avoid it.but it was better indoors
same here. if i keep it above my waist it works better. doesn't seem right though!
If you are running a 2.2 rom, there seems to be some issues with bluetooth in general for the leaked build. My friend has had problems with music stuttering in his car connected thru the Sync thingie, and said there were a bunch of reports of shoddy bluetooth connectivity.
Just something else to consider.
I've been curious about this myself (if there's a bluetooth issue) - I have a motorolla t505 in the car, and bluetooth to it has been flaky to setup since SR2.5 and there have been random skips during playback.
I truly think it is a bluetooth issue. I'm on stock 2.1 and it has occured on two seperate phones and I have also tried 3 seperate headsets. Of course HTC says they have never had this problem.

Its not just Htc, friend runs cm6 nightlies on droid 1 and has bluetooth issues. I haven't looked into it much because I don't use bt, but he was saying there were lots of people having problems.
Not that that's necessarily what's going on here, however.
This is typically a headset issue. I have the moto s9's and the skipping happens when a good line of site to the device isn't present. Kind of defeats the purpose if you have to hold your phone while using the headset. I have noticed though that single mono headsets dont have this problem when running the audio apps.
I ran across this thread while trying to find a similar thread about the Samsung Captivate. I had the same issue and was going to post what I did to fix it. I'm sure the problem is phone-specific, but I figured I'd post it here anyway. I use my Motorola S805 headphones with my Captivate at work on a daily basis. I typically leave my phone on the charger and stream music through Rhapsody via my 3G connection (unlimited, thankfully...we don't have wifi at work). I regularly walk up to about 40 feet away from my phone, with no skipping or sound-quality issues whatsoever. I had a lot of issues with skipping when I first got the phone, and I figured out what was happening. If I leave WIFI turned on, but I'm not connected, the music skips. If I'm connected to a router, it doesn't. I believe the phone was polling for WIFI connections every so often and possibly causing a CPU spike or something similar. If I'm out of WIFI range, and simply turn my WIFI off, my music will play great all night long.
Hey Guys,
after weeks of trying and searching, i'm really considering to sell my Galaxy. But before i do so, i want to ask once more on this way, if anyone knows or at least got a clue about how to fix the bitpool/bitrate quality for bluetooth stereo streaming. It's important to me as i use my phone for music a lot.
The problem is known for some people, but not a lot coder/tweaker tried their luck on this yet.
The only way I know would be to flash cyanogen. I even tried it, but cyanogen is not for everyday use on the galaxy yet imo. It still has a lot more other bugs, and the battery life is much worse compared to my stock 2.3.3 rom.
Perfect solution for me would be a rom based on the stock gingerbread, with just the bitpool issue fixed. I'd even donate anyone who could fix that.
So if someone knows more about it or would give it a go and tries to fix it... I'd really appreciate that as apart of this issue i really like my Galaxy S
Have you tried gb stock ? I am on jvh and think Bluetooth streaming has improved. Try it and see if you hear the same way?

Are you sure about that? Currently i'm on stock gb. I think JVB... is JVH newer?
EDIT: I've checked it i'm on JVB and modem is JVK. But i haven't read about any improvement on JVH yet... well i may try JVH then... I'd do everything to get it fixed :/
Ok, ive tried JVH... still the same aweful quality Ok, seems like i'll get a WIN7 phone soon then :/
You've got to be kidding me. Just use fre*kin wired headphones. The SGS +voodoo is like one of the best DAPs in the world and you're going to sell it because you want more quality with your bluetooth headset. Let me tell you something bluetooth and sound quality shouldn't be used in one sentence.
There is a reason i bought a bluetooth stereo headset. And just a little headup: You may have terrabytes of space on your SGS to save FLAC's or Wave files, but i bet you're using compressed music as well... So you shouldn't even start to think about "quality" even with wired headphones. So its not a qualified comment at all...
Also, like i stated before, i tried cyanogen and the quality with the bluetooth headset is the same as with wired ones. Also on my mates W7 phone its decent (after a 1 minute tweak)...

Dude, sorry to spam in your thread but I got bothered by that "not a qualified comment". First ,as I said the SGS with voodoo just blows out of the water almost all DAPs (and I mean dedicated music players). Second, yeah I have a 32GB micro sdhd card which I use with my SGS and I almost exclusively listen my music in flac or in mp3 which I have personally ripped. And I'm an audiophile with a vast collection of headphones (even bluetooth ones) and I know what I'm saying - even cheap wired headphones with voodoo sound way better than any bluetooth ones. It's your choice, I understand that wireless is more comfortable but trading an awesome phone with awesome audio quality for a Windows phone which doesn't even have Angry birds for it, let alone proper multitasking and stuff is a bad deal
There isn't much room to talk about quality even if we have 320's mp3's... Trust me, i'm really strict and sensible with such sounds issues, thats why it bothers me so much with the small bitrate on stock gingerbread. It sounds like 96 kbps compressed streaming. With cyanogen it seems to stream in the highest possible bitrate which is about 328 kbp's as far as i know (at least thats how fast it streams to the bluetooth devie on my pc). However, whats the difference between a 320 being played without bluetooth and with bluetooth? I can understand your argument if its a non compressed file format. But even Voodoo doesnt do magic with it. I got quite a bunch of cheap and expensive earplugs which i tested with, and without the bluetooth device. Trust me, you wont hear any differnce (on cyanogen at least)...
But anyway, i just tried the newest cyanogen build and some stuff got improved especially battery seems to be somewhat better... so maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel and i'll wait how cyan gets improved. I'll stick with my SGS then, as i know its sound is really good otherwise and also the rest
Hi All,
I have a problem I'm troubleshooting and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. I'm currently on the stock AT&T ICS rom, rooted, s-on with the Faux kernel. Have been running for more than a year with no major issues.
For xmas this year I received the LG bluetooth tone+ stereo headset (hbs-730), which is comfy and has great audio quality. Until I walk around or go outside or move too much.
The connection range is like 5-10 feet at best and sometimes the connection has intermittent interruptions just when the phone is in the pocket of my wool coat and I'm walking to the train.
My next steps are to try my wife's vivid (stock ICS, unrooted, and stock kernel) and maybe dig up one of my old dumbphones to see if the problem happens with it as well.
My google-fu pulled up some similar complaints about bluetooth audio playback problems with ICS across many devices and ROMs, so I wondered if maybe this was a known issue and had been fixed in any of the available custom ROMs for the Vivid?
Any other ideas?
The signal?

Hi, I has Motorola S10-HD and I currently on the "Extreme Holiday Dream-X2" and the music is cut but depends in the zone in the I walk, for exemple, I think that there is "interferences" for the others microwaves, and this causes this crashes!
Greetings!:good:
I expected some interference depending on where I went, but my headset was completely useless except in very narrow situations. Yesterday before I left work I downloaded and ran a bluetooth fixer app that says it resets all your bluetooth settings. Haven't had time to see exactly what it does, but I was able to walk home and back to the train this morning with only the slightest hints of interference. Curious to see if the range is better now too. I should test it because I was only able to get about 5-10 feet when inside before.

So I paired the One with my QED uPlay at home and I'm having issues. The phone has to literally be 30cm away from the receiver or the audio will start getting distorted until it eventually cuts off. I have two uPlays, issue exists on both so its not tbe receiver. Also my iPhone 4s has no issues either. I was hoping the One had better audio than the iPhone since it has aptx, but its quite the opposite. Has anyone tried bluetooth music streaming? Is it just a faulty phone?

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi both use the 2.4GHz channel. Asus had issues with the Prime because of its all-aluminum design where they had to greatly amplify the Wi-Fi signal and use diversity antennas to get through it. HTC uses the latter on the One. When used together, the Wi-Fi signal can overpower and interfere with the BT signal. Try turning off Wi-Fi and see if your connection quality changes. You're the first one to mention a BT issue so it could be unique to your device. Time will tell.
I have had a problem with bt connecting to my car (audi a1) I can hear the call but the other end cannot hear me. Going to delete connection and try again tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies. I switched off WIFI, re-paired the device and bluetooth started working perfectly, so it makes sense it was interference. Strange thing is I turned WIFI back on and bluetooth was still working fine. I'll do further tests in my car tomorrow see how it goes. If I'm not convinced I'll just get the phone replaced.
I have also had issues with bluetooth paired to my hands free car kit. Issues have surfaced when streaming music and also when making audio calls via bluetooth.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
The One X had a similar issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
It could be that when I was first trying the WIFI antenna was stuck on high power, which caused the interference, but when I reset the WIFI it reduced its power and no longer interfered with the BT. I have changed the WIFI at home to run at 5 GHZ, but work still runs on 2.4.

Apparently 1.29.709.4 has been officially released in Taiwan by HTC, so it shouldn't be long before the update arrives to the rest of us (hopefully).
got the same issue...some times I got no lags in audio streaming, but sometimes they are there...until it (maybe) will be fixed I'm using a widget, my cousin has coded for me yesterday . Quite simple solution. If I press the button, wifi turns off and bt turns on...works fine for me, so far
