Anyone have any experience yet getting a Captivate replaced through the warranty department at 800-801-1101?
My sister got her phone on launch day, past few days the screen has really been acting up, and it's now just outside the 30 day store return period.
Anybody try getting a replacement from the warranty department? I'm figuring they have replacements available but I want to check before I waste my time calling in.
When my first captivate was randomly shutting down and the store I purchased it at was having a hard time keeping them stocked I called ATT and the guy said they absolutely could just send me another, but urged me to go to the store, call him back, and let him on the phone with the clerk so he could credit my return immediately and I could go elsewhere to buy another that same day, thus not eating anymore of my 30 days. So yeah, long story short, they can replace it right away from what I was told.

Several months ago, I woke up one morning to a phone that refused to charge, power on, or otherwise do anything.
Walked into an AT&T Warranty place, 30 minutes later, left with a new phone.
I purchased a captivate back in December at Sam's club and luckily haven't had any real issues with it(1010 build). My wifes been bugging me since then, that she wanted one, so I just bought another one off craigslist (0610 build).
I was curious to see what anyones thoughts are on this.
1st) The craigslist one has a small crack in the plastic casing around the charger door, so the door is kinda sunk in a little, but still works properly. I'm just a little worried that down the road it may become an issue.
2nd) It seams to have some of the gps issues. When running stock it will hardly pick up anything. I flashed a few other roms on it incorporating the various gps fixes, and Paragon seams to work best. But it still wont pull in a tight lock.
So my question is:
Do you think I could do a warranty exchange on the Craigslist one through the Att repair center? Basically pretending its the one I purchased through Sam's or will they be able to figure out that there 2 different phones?
Well, that's fraud but if you feel you must I would just play dumb like you didn't know and must have mixed up the phones. Heh
Not likely since they will have the IMEI record of the original purchaser. But go ahead and try. Come back and tell us how it worked out.
I have seen where many have gotten at&t to warranty their phone even though it was not purchased from them.

Of course they will warranty a phone purchased by the original owner from another authorized retailer (I bought mine from Radio Shack and AT$T replaced the first 2), but they have zero obligation to warranty a phone to a 3rd party purchaser that bought the phone used. Most warranties are not transferable and are only good to the original purchaser.

I was referring to people who have bought via Craigslist and eBay as that was what was being discussed. I know they have no obligation but have read many people say they have.

Fried my phone the other day and had the power off issue.... went into my local AT&T warranty center and they hooked me up with a Refurb in about 20 minutes - no questions asked.
IF you have insurance and it's within the 1rst year of the phone's life they should replace it as long as it's not water damaged related.
(And... I had Serendipity back on it when I got home much to my wife's chagrin)
Note: The kid actually seemed to know what he was talking about too strangely enough. Knew about the IMEI range issue and claimed that the refurbs - even if they have the problematic range should be find as they replaced teh internal hardware.
I have a 1011 build now - and it seems to be working great (sans typical GPS BS)

There are authorized AT&T resellers on eBay. Craig's list is pretty much used only. Since AT$T has acknowledged a manufacturing defect issue with some of these phones, they will probably replace ones that fall within the affected IMEI range regardless where/when it was purchased. You may have to badger them a bit, but they generally prefer to just exchange it rather than lose a customer. Unfortunately, as the OP has told us, this particular phone has some visible physical damage. On that basis AT$T is unlikely to replace it for free as they will probably say any malfunction is related to that damage and not any manufacturing defect. That's my expert insight on it.

i bought my phone off craigslist used, and when i bricked it as a newbie, called samsung for any info. as it was under a year old they took it back and repaired it free of charge. thank you! lol!
You'll either be completely out of luck and get a refurbished phone that will break in 91 days, or get a brand new phone with the same 90 day warranty that will take roughly 10 months to break.
I got lucky; the first refurbished replacement that I got was dead on arrival, so it gave me leverage to scream at ATT for being crap.
You can tell if your phone is refurbished or new by looking at the label under the battery cover; if it is white with ugly font and no indication of the Samsung logo, it's refurbished. If the logo is present, your phone is new.

I need to have my Tilt serviced under AT&T warranty and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Device Support Center?
I am debating whether I should use the mail exchange or take the phone to the Device Support Center.
I understand that you only get a refurbished replacement using the mail exchange.
My question is, if you get your phone exchanged at the Device Support Center, do you get a new unit or a refurbished unit? The AT&T website says that they will "swap" the phone, but no mention of whether i's a new or refurbed unit.

i did the mail exchanged and i got a refurbished one it took a week tho but you couldnt tell its refurbished been using it for a couple of months now and it just like brand new
Pretty much all places will give you a refurb after 30 days. Should they give you a new one if your used one is broken?
Traditionally the DSC only carries refurbs in stock. The best way to get a NEW model would be to call the warranty dept over the phone and request a new model. However, it is not a garauntee that they will reissue you a new phone unless they no longer have any seed stock equipment in stock.
But, AT&T fully tests the refurbished models before placing them in stock and should a refurb go bad, then you are welcome to call the warranty dept again stating that the refurb has gone bad and to replace it with a new one so that the problem doesnt continue to happen or get worse.
Lastly, keep in mind that regardless of when you get a phone from the DSC or the Warranty Dept, the ORIGINAL warranty still applies. So they only warranty the phone for 1 year from the original phone purchase date or 90 days if the phone is outside of the 1 year after replacement.

I don't mind getting a refurb unit, but I don't want to end up with one of those earlier models with the usb/battery problem.

I got my AT&T Tilt exchanged twice at the DSC in San Diego, California. They only carry refurbs but you really couldn't tell (well, I could for the first refurb I got...).
I'm not sure what 'usb/battery problem' you're referring to as my original Tilt that I got back in October 2007 didn't have that problem. Anyway, the two refurbs that I got were already loaded with the 'latest' ROM update released from HTC+AT&T.

i do say things like that a lot. besides one of my stores is 2 blocks from the local DSC so it gets said more there than anywhere else.
ok for people who have actually been to a DSC...what is their protocol? do they carefully inspect the devices warranty voiding spots (black void sticker over back housing screw and white water damage pad) and do they inspect for physical damage closely?

So about 45 days ago I purchased a new Tilt off ebay. Big mistake but the people at Best Buy had me convinced that they stopped making them. Yesterday out of no where my keyboard went dead and my phone started acting up. Currently I can't leave my phone on without it starting the note program and recording sound clips until the memory is full.
At this point I was just wondering what my options are. Will AT&T exchange my phone for a refurbished one? Is there anyway I could sent the phone to HTC to get it repaired. Are there any reliable companies that I could send the phone to? I have heard stories about people just bringing the phone into a AT&T store and getting it swapped out. Am I out $400?
If you got it off ebay, att doesnt want anything to do with it. You can try for HTC support, but i have no idea how HTC is with that kind of stuff.
Do a hard reset, and see if that helps any.
I wonder if it's just a faulty keyboard and it's causing shortcuts to open the notes software.

Could be a cable loose inside or the keyboard circuit board could have slipped out of place. This happened on mine.

Paid repairs are different, they'll carry out the repairs for you, and invoice you for the repairs. They also charge for a quotation for repairs if you dont get it repaired (£20 in the UK I think, no idea outside of the UK)
If the phone keeps recording notes, it could be something as simple as a button being stuck. my solution with old devices was to mash the buttons as much as possible, and it generally unstuck them.
If your device is 45 days old (to you) then to be fair, its not likely to be an issue that the seller knew about, as its something thats occured since then. Issues can occur at any stage in a devices life, its just unfortunate that yours has chosen now to go wrong.
If you're not looking to pay to get the device fixed, it may be something as simple as opening the case up, and cleaning around the keyboard/extra buttons and re-assembling it, but if you're unsure on how to do this, I'd recommend not trying. When I opened my old 9100 to try and clean it up, something went sproing, and I lost a spring... I could never use the bottom row on the keyboard after that.

This isn't my experience.
I've had a couple of dealings with HTC UK and have been very happy:
1) Ebay-sourced Tornado failed screen - I phoned HTC and from the IMEI number they got the manufacturing date, worked out it was under a year old, and fixed it for free
2) ebay-sourced Artemis - I dropped it, bent the casing. I phoned HTC and they fixed it as a paid repair for 65UKP. This included a complete recase. When I noticed some of the buttons were a bit sticky afterwards, they did a second repair replacing the controls for free, despite it almost certainly being a problem caused by my initial dropping.
3) ebay-sourced Qtek 8500. Had a problem with the LCD failing when the clamshell was flexed. Again, phoned HTC UK and replaced under warranty.
They've been prompt, have native helpdesks, cheap and generally couldn't have been more helpful - definitely worth approaching them. This contrasts with, say, Nokia and is a major part of why I like HTC products.

The first thing u should do is figure out if it is hardware or software related. Just do a hardreset and see if that helps. If not, then its most likely hardware related.
Check in Settings - Buttons what button is assigned to the recorder (usually the one on the left side), remove that assignment.
The button must be stuck or the sensor below it faulty, so it senses that button always pressed.

Dont get me wrong, I wasnt slating HTC for their support, I'm with you on that one. I've just seen jobs that have been bounced back from them (rightfully so) and was just giving the worst case scenario, that being that HTC dont actually have to fix it.
the agent or att will not help you, you got it from eBay and even if they help it will be for extra $$ so you may well just override that idea
first thing we must be sure if its hardware failure or software failure
if its software then you need to read lots but eventually you will have to get a new ROM and start from scratch eliminate all 3rd party ( so i advice using stocked ROM)

After this happened to me the first time I got some bunk electronics from ebay, I started using squaretrade.com. They will give you a warranty at about 50% of the cost of a Manufacturer/Dealer warranty and have a five day fix/replacement guarantee.

Last night I reverted back to my factory rom but this did not fix the problem. Some odd things that I noticed that has me completely baffled is that only the directional keys (up, down, right, left) work on the keyboard but nothing else works. I tried doing a hard reset but that didn't wont since the 2 soft keys are not responding.

That manual seems very complete if I can't get HTC to fix it I will attempt to fix it myself. Does anyone know if I can purchase replacement part?
There's some hope for you. I bought my Tilt off of Ebay. AT&T warranted it from the day that it hit their network with my SIM card. So although it was originally purchased from AT&T (by the ebayer seller) on Oct 17th 2007, my warranty started December 6th 2007. No receipt required. They swapped it no problem. The TILT has a 365 day warranty via AT&T.
Just make sure you deal with a service center and not the individual stores. Go to attwireless.com and search for "TILT Warranty" .. look for the service center information.
Mine was swapped with no hassle in about 5minutes (I had a rom issue). One note if you go this route, check the replacement! My replacement has key-sticking issues (the right key on the keyboard gets stuck down, etc). The speaker (for phonecalls, not external) also is a little more muted than my old one (I sometimes have trouble hearing people). I may rewarranty it.

The service centers are contractors (I could tell by their shirts, saying "Company Name: Authorized AT&T Tech"), so I really don't think they care, as long as they can warranty it they will because it is more money for them. Just my thought.
As the above poster said, AT&T WILL do warranty exchanges on tilts bought through ebay or otherwise. I bought one off of craigslist and had it exchanged when a key on the keyboard stopped working. No problem. It is warrantied for 1 year after it is first used on their system.
The people stating otherwise are flat out wrong.
Thanks for the advice guys I was able to take the phone to a AT&T service center and swap the phone for a new one.

Did any of you here swap your phone with HTC and your phone was unlocked?
My phone's defects are obviously hardware: Power button failing and Screen has a gap around sides, (Dust gathers around screen everyday, have to clean manually).
Can they charge me for unlocking and rooting it, even though these issues are hardware specific? Anyone has a story to share?
During the call, the HTC Rep told me that "we will charge your credit card for any non-warranty problems." Does unlocking count as one?
yes they will charge you for having your phone rooter,cause is out of the warranty that's what they told me over the phone...
I heard some Reps are unaware that HTC honors Hardware warranty. Maybe they said that to you because they are just reading a script that says "unlocking = void" I've read stories here that they still repair though. Is it true?
I just had my Nexus One (unlocked bootloader) replaced through HTC without a charge for a similar hardware defect. When I called, I didn't mention anything about it being rooted, nor did he ask. I received my replacement, HTC received my defective unit, and I was told my ticket was closed with no charge on my account.
The replacement I received has a new defect and I'm currently awaiting another replacement to swap it out as well. I don't think they care, but I wouldn't parade around talking about it. Just be courteous and flash everything back to stock as much as you can.

Please keep us informed on how everything turns out. Several people have said they've had no trouble. It would be nice to get a list if reasons for RMA with success rate. I have a fairly strong feeling as long as it's hardware related and involves no root caused problem (led from n1 torch, speaker from louder music, etc.) the rate would be pretty high. HTC really, in all the times I've had any problems has been one of my favorite call centers to contact.
I have successfully swapped my phone. I had the dust under screen issue and i called them up. Not questions asked about unlocked. I got my phone and they waited a week or so and i saw my ticket was closed. Now im calling back because my replacement one now has dust under the screen also.

My phone has the power button defect and I'd like to swap it for a new one.
However, I dropped my phone on asphalt recently and there are minor scuffs on 2 edges and a ding on the top left edge. Will this be a problem in swapping?
Will I get charged or something after they receive my phone? The defects are not related to me dropping it.

So I called HTC. Told them the IMEI they asked if i still live blah blah address(the original owner). I told them nope. Gave them new address and name. They got my CC number and off we go. Got a replacement phone in 2 days. Sent the other one back. Case closed. All is good, until yesterday when I saw just under my replacement one also. Its been 3-4 weeks. Now i'm waiting for another replacement.

I'd like to know the answer to this too. My phone has a stuck pixel but I also dropped it and now there is a crack in the screen. I'm wondering if they'll charge me for the swap.
I've had my N1 replaced almost 5 times, so I have some experience with this. Everything was perfect with my first phone except for one dead pixel, which was only visible from certain angles. However, considering the price that I paid for the phone, it wasn't acceptable from my perspective.
I read a lot about people having successes with replacements so I decided to do a swap. My recommendation is to think about doing a swap very carefully. Each time a replacement was sent to me, I found new problems with the phone.
For example, one replacement had a weak vibrate while another had a camera that took oversaturated photos. One of the phones had minor scratches on the screen. Another replacement turned out to be the replacement that was sent to me which I sent back (but with a different sticker and IMEI).
So I think that if the phone is not damaged significantly, such as huge cracks, they will not charge you any fees. So minor scratches on the phone and "normal use" damage is fine.
Also, if you purchased your phone from someone else, you will still be under the warranty and do swaps. I've asked this through the phone twice and both times I was told that they decided to honor warranty transfers.
HTC gave me a new one was well with unlocked bootloader. The problem with my phone was a software issue too. No questions asked.

I traded my iPhone 3GS for a N1 on craigslist only to discover it has some sort of hardware problem - Strange rebooting - not sure if it's heat related (doesn't seem so) or bad RAM (I've seen many reports). I had my Nexus One rooted and it was sent it to HTC for "power button failure" and they fixed it for no extra charge. Came back with a more firm-feeling power button and relocked.
They tried to charge me but after some reasoning with the right person on the phone they dropped the charge. You can also file a ticket with the Google Sales team and they will make sure you are not charged if you have a manufacturing defect unrelated to your phone being unlocked.
I bought mine from someone locally in salt lake, and after I had bought it, i noticed some dust under the screen. When I called HTC, they wouldn't replace the whole unit because there was an engraving on it. But they said they would send me a packing slip and i could send them the phone and they would take it apart and fix it. So hopefully it works.

Hey, I would try calling HTC again and talk to another representative if you want to do a swap for a replacement; sometimes the customer representatives tell you what they know and so they give different responses.
The warranty specifically says:
If you have engraved your phone with a personal message, the device that you receive will not include the engraving, and the engraving on the defective device will not be sent back to you. If you want to keep your engraving, you can opt for the express repair option.

I purchased an LG G4 H811 on EBAY for $129. The phone had a manufacturing date of 2015 June, I believe.
I received the phone, charged it overnight, and turned it on. The phone went through setup and asked for my GMail and password. After connecting to my wireless router, I allowed the phone to update/install all of my apps.
The phone worked GREAT! Just like my G3 only snappier......About two hours later, I left my home and walked about two miles to a local drugstore. I called a friend to tell him about my phone and how nice it felt and performed. I noticed the phone felt hot, but I was outside at noon so I thought nothing of it. I got home and nothing was responding so I pulled the battery. Upon booting, the phone BOOTLOOPED! Crap........
I pulled the battery again. The phone booted normally this time but ran slowly and locked up again, HOT!. Now the phone would never finish booting. Since I bought the phone from an EBAY member (STORE FRONT), I was certain it was refurbished. I called LG, got an RMA number and sent it in. The company received the phone and later responded that I would have to pay for the repair. The repair would cost $79. I called to pay the money because I thought I wanted the phone working once and for all, BOOTLOOPFREE...
A representative said they had decided to fix the phone free of charge under an extended warranty. WOW!! I never asked for this to be done, but the representative I talked to said it would be no problem but it would take a few days for the repair to be done and that I would receive a tracking number. How cool is this? I did not push, cry, scream or threaten. LG simply volunteered to fix the phone free after initially wanting money to do so. Perhaps some of you will have the same luck with your phones. Mine was clearly out of the one year warranty and I do not know if the phone was refurbished or not. All I know is that LG volunteered to do the repair THIS WEEK (April 27-May4) without any argument or request from me.

Was your data preserved after repair? And when you called what information do they ask after you tell them your having trouble with a LG G4 stuck in bootloop?
Did it have the same manufacture date when it was returned? Just wondering if they replaced the entire motherboard or just fixed it.
The one I bought on ebay was a 602 (February 2016) model. Rather than buying from a high-volume clearing house that couldn't be bothered, I bought from a private seller who volunteered the manufacture date. My brother has a 507 model he's still making payments on through T-Mobile. Hopefully LG's warranty extension for this issue will last until the bootloop bites him.
They repaired my wife's phone no questions asked. Didn't even need the proof of purchase. We bought it the month it was released so it was way out of warranty. Free shipping and everything. Took about a week.

Yes, about 3 weeks ago they did it. It was totally wiped. I set it up all through LG web chat. All I sent in was the phone with no backing, no SD card no Sim chip. They sent it back with a new board and wiped.

Same mine is going out today also did everything through chat. I wonder if the new board is revised and won't cause the same issue anymore. Yeah figured they wipe everything because of privacy concerns.
This is the email I got from LG saying that the diagnostic showed that the phone was not charging with the cable... Wth that's not what I sent it in for. Mine was stuck boot looping so now I'm curious to know what you guys got for an email and what the diagnostics showed.
Apparently it's on it's way back to me I just hope that they fixed the boot loop too if not I'm going to be super ticked off!
So it appears as it may just be general terms used on emails but I got final email saying that the board was indeed swapped out as part of the repair so what a relief... Still wonder if the "new" boards are any better than the ones on the phone already. Hmm only time will tell.
My G4 is supposed to be here on Wednesday, in which they also told me they had to swap out the board. Not surprising since it went from bootlooping to not even turning on, which means all my data was lost. Makes me glad that pictures can be saved to SD at least. After trying to get it to boot to make a backup by using the freezer trick, it just decided to give up the ghost.
Props to LG though, since I made an RMA 2 months ago and only recently had the means to send it back. Turnaround time was quick too; I was expecting at least a month. I've been using a ZTE ZMax as a backup and while not awful, I wouldn't mind having my G4 back.
I plan on throttling the CPU this time so it doesn't get too hot, unless someone can tell me they fixed the issue and there's nothing to worry about now.
When you folks get your "new" boards back, make sure to run that LG Info app on the Play Market and show a screenshot of the info it provides including the motherboard date - I'm interested to see what that shows and not what might be printed on the actual board aka the silk-screening. I know they can change that info without many hassles with the hardware they have just like they can reprogram an old or new board with the same IMEI anytime they want so, I'm pretty curious to see what these new(er) boards are showing for info/revisions/etc.

1) LG repaired my H811 in January. It was returned to me with data wiped *and* the IMEI and date of manufacture *did not* change.
2) There has only ever been the one revision 1.0 for the H811.
Some tips: I purchased a "Certified Refurbished" phone off Swappa in February of last year with a 505 serial number. The phone bootlooped in January, within the year of warranty. At least so far as the G4 is concerned LG has been providing warranty service under two circumstances: 1) If the date of the repair request in within 15 months of the serial number date, they are not requiring a receipt and they have fixed phones for free purchased from Swappa and Ebay or 2) if the date of repair is more than 15 months from the serial number date they will request a receipt if you initiate the repair online. If your receipt has any indication that the phone is used or refurbished they will not do the repair for free. In that instance, you should avoid providing a receipt. Many people have had their phones repaired without a receipt but if you are beyond the 15 months I'm not sure how you avoid that. My guess is that if you provide a Paypal receipt from Ebay, they will have no sure way of knowing whether or not the phone was purchased used and they don't ask. If you provide a screen shot of your Swappa sale, it may very well indicate the phone was used and they will charge for the repair.
So far my phone has worked perfectly. I did not mind paying the $79. I bought the phone knowing there was every chance it would bootloop. I like LG products when they work.
PS - About six months after LG repaired the phone they called me to say that it had been a mistake to charge me. They sent me a check for the entire amount. Yay!
I've had four G4 devices bootloop and been repaired without issues, all of them 505 models, all 4 of them within the past 7 months (so they're all outside the 15 month extended period), and not once has the 505 serial number been called into the situation at all - what matters is the date of actual purchase for a warranty claims.
AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon were still selling the G4 through February of this year (2017) so, all one has to do (with any carrier actually) is tell LG you bought the device in late 2016 and that's that, instant warranty coverage and they won't even hassle you for a receipt - at least they haven't in my experience of having G4's repaired by initiating the RMA using the online chat support.
The G4 is known to be defective, period, and as far as I'm concerned that makes every single one of them ever manufactured to be valid for a warranty claim and I don't give a damn about dates on a calendar or the first three digits of a serial number.
My G4 arrived today, but it's currently at home. I'll edit this post when I bring it with me tomorrow to get set up and rooted and nougated and give you the info you want.
The app and silkscreen match. It says 9/2015 as manufacture date.
Guess LG is scared of the class action lawsuit against then for this problem. So now they warranty anybody I guess. This won't stop the lawsuit though.

I just wanted to add and make an update to this discussion
I got my phone of craiglist brand new back in Oct 2015. I had the issue of running extremely hot but never bootlooped for me until June of 2017, it just went dead and will not restart. Its the t mobile version. I googled to find a fix and read about other user experiences. I called LG and I made up a date of purchase to Oct 2016 and was able to get a rma from lg. I sent it in on June 6th and got it back 10 days later.
They claim in their repair info that they changed the mother board.
Well the phone now had additional issues such as
1) Will turn off and restart 5 times in 6 days
2) Will drop saved bluettooth connection
3) Running google map will cause to run hot
4) Using google map, pandora and bluetooth will cause it to restart and run hot
So in my opinion changing mother board does not fix the issue and with the replacement, what they are doing it is forcing the phone to restart when it gets hot based on my experience.
I sent the phone back and listed the various issues after experience 8 days of frustration since repair. Its been with them now for past 3 days and still under diagnostic and I am waiting to get it back.....
Based on what I read on this thread, wondering if anyone has a link to class action lawsuit that we can join? and for those who had their phone fixed/repaired...how is it running since and what carrier you are on?

Update - I called LG after they received the phone last wednesday and it was sitting under diagnostic status. I asked the CS Rep when I will expect to get back. He looked up the same information that I saw on the website line to RMA. He then I guess sent a request for information and hour later I get a call from LG asking me what issues I am having as they did not find anything wrong with GPS, Bluetooth , I reminded them of my list and asked them to run bluetooth, gps and pandora at the same time and watch the phone heat up and shut down....he then thanked me and checked the status this afternoon and it moved a notch to in repair.......

Well, I have had a SM-N9600 now since around September. I opted for the international version due to it being bootloader unlockable. I have had it unlocked and running on Verizon for months now.
Well today, I went walking in the sun at the track. I used the phone as my GPS, in my pocket the whole time, while taking it out occasionally to check my distance. After I was finished I noticed that the screen looked discolored. I immediately made sure that comfort view was disabled, but the issue persisted. There seems to be a hardware failure of some sort effecting the screen. It looks like major burn in, in a perfect pattern in the middle of the device screen that persists even in recovery. Pictures attached of the screen.
I immediately freaked out and called Samsung to inquire about a repair. They stated that they would not touch the phone even if I payed for the repair. They also basically stated that any of their retailers would not touch it as well. So I spoke to a supervisor to verify. He also stated that they would not help me in any way to get my device repaired due to the fact that it is an international phone. So, even if you ask to pay for the hardware failure, you still cannot get a repair.
I called around to UbreakitIfix locations and they all stated that they would not touch the phone as Samsung owns all of their authorized replacement parts.
If anyone has any information that can help me get an authentic screen replacement please let me know.
Just to clarify, the screen was checked for dead pixels as well as any flaws when it was purchased. This all is from today.

My first suggestion; start with the Reseller. See what they can do (irregardless if it's been one month or several).
Was it purchased with a credit card? Some credit cards offer extended forms of warranty beyond that of the manufacturer.
There are also several vendors on eBay who perform mail-in repairs. Their range of services/specialties vary. Drop them a line.
You could also sell the device "As-Is" to reclaim a portion of your original cost. It does function albeit the burn-in. You may not get exactly what you paid but at least you have something in your hand towards a replacement.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, that's what I have been contemplating doing as far as the selling as is part. It is 100% in perfect condition besides the new screen issue. I guess I could at least get 4-500 toward a new device (this time with squaretrade).
I sent Samsung of Hong Kong an email about it, so I'll report back if they respond.

Seeing as you have purchased a grey import. You would have to contact the retailer, who sold you the device and ask them to repair it.
You should be able to find a 3rd party repair shop, that will replace the display for you, if you look around hard enough. Personally I would contact the retailer and get them to fix it. As they are obligated to repair or replace any faulty products sold.
I wouldn't bother contacting Samsung Hong Kong as it would cost quite a bit to get your device repaired by them.

I heard back from the email to the CEO of HK Samsung. He stated that a representative will be getting in touch with me soon. Hopefully that is the case.
I'm curious how this goes. After my screen failed on my n960u1 I didn't dare buy a 9600. Wanted a white 9600 on Verizon but knew if it had screen issues again I couldn't get Samsung to do anything about it on or off warranty. So if they take care of it I'll be surprised

See, I didn't know about the screen issues. I was tempted to buy a new device and to sell this one "as is", but that's before I knew it is a widespread issue. It would be pointless to buy another one because I would be paranoid about it happening again. I was really thinking I could hold on to this device a few years as I hate the new notch trend, but I guess it isn't going to happen. I doubt they will replace it either. One can only hope though. I believe this will be my last Samsung device after owning basically each release over the years. It's a shame of what the company has become with their customer service and blatent disregard of their customers. They were flat out rude to me when I called just for asking them to accept my money for a repair as I know that it is not under warranty in the states. They need to be took down a peg from a competing company.
I guess I could always try myself if all else fails. Has anyone bought from this site? I wonder if it is possible that it really is OEM?

Yeah they have some issues with the screens. I have had/seen a ton of these and they have had from screen crackling issues on press, screen burn in or discoloration. I am shocked Samsung won't fix it though even if you pay for it! That is why I dumped all my notes and went the s10+ route for now. Hope to get a pixel 4 and a note 10 when they come out. Have been very disappointed with the fingerprint sensor so far though on the s10+

I explained my concerns to the representative and he said that they would just have to send it to the appropriate location and it would just take a little more time for repair. I mentioned that conversation to the rep the other day and asked if they had a call log or something and he responded "Sir, your more than welcome to send it in, but as soon as they see that it is an international phone they will send it back to you untouched". They are a bunch of jerks over there.

Why not use DHL or FEDEX with a shipping label back to yourself ? it will cost a fair bit but it’s better than third party repair and cheaper ? As you’re paying for you own postage both ways! I can’t see why they would say no? That’s the only way I’m seeing out of this situation?
